DWTS Tony Dovolani, Val Chmerkovskiy, and Maks Chmerkovskiy Attend Viennese Opera Ball Gala

Pictured above is Tony Dovolani, Val Chmerkovskiy, and Maks Chmerkovskiy! They attended the 57th annual Viennese Opera ball gala at The Waldorf Astoria on February 3rd in New York City. What a dashing trio they make in their black and white tuxedos, hmmm? I especially love their white gloves. If you’d like to see more pics of them pictured at this event, be sure to see Getty Images.

Dancing With The Stars Season 14 Speculation On Lara Spencer And Stacey Dash

Some interesting tweets to speculate on today…an “absolutely not” and a “maybe, I don’t know?”!! Last night Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer and Mark Ballas were tweeting each other back and forth about Dancing With The Stars. She asked him who his partner is and look how he replied back. She’s not dancing as she has said, but, just for some random fun, we thought we’d mention it because you never know on the possibilities for who might dance together (or who won’t) now or maybe in the future?

Also, below is a tweet from Stacey Dash saying she’s ready to dance on Dancing With The Stars. She’s an actress who has made regular appearances on The Cosby Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and also St. Elsewhere to name a few of her acting accomplishments. I can actually see this happening if this were to come true, can you? Also, she might be a cool partner for Derek. What do you think?

Thanks PureDWTS readers Evaine and Dee for letting us know on these tweets today!!xxx

Pure DWTS Random Talk On Mel B, Brooke Burke, Corky Ballas, Madonna, And The Super Bowl

Just some random reportings today on things related to dancing and Dancing With The Stars!!

First up, join us in congratulating Spice Girl and Season 5, 2nd place winner Mel B as she has been signed on to co-host the Australian Version of Dancing With The Stars. Below is a take from Adelaide Now with a quote from Mel B confident that she can pull the job off. We wish her much luck!

“To have the opportunity to host Dancing with the Stars is great, as I know exactly what the contestants will be going through,” she said.

“To be honest, I’m just really looking forward to this year. I feel like it’s going to be my Aussie, Sydney year. I also hope to get my (Spice) girls out here.

“Emma (Bunton) and Victoria (Beckham) have new babies. As a group we’ve only been here two days, so we never got to really experience it and I’ve been telling them how fabulous it is out here.”

Speaking of co-hosting, there has been some chatter here, around the internet at various places, and at twitter about Brooke Burke possibly not co-hosting next season’s Dancing With The Stars since she tweeted about some disappointing “crazy Hollywood Industry” news which hit her hard this past week. The tweets lead many to believe it had something to do with her losing her co-hosting job. Well, with two tweets similar to the first tweet below within 8 hours apart yesterday along with Tom Bergeron addressing her as his “partner” in reply, I think it’s safe to say her job is safe?? Then again, who knows? The Hollywood Industry is indeed “crazy”. Look what happened with Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger, and Paula Abdul on the X Factor this week. Never did I think they’d be let go in such a fashion and so soon. 😯

Moving on! Give it up to Dancing pro Corky Ballas!! He’s been recently helping Olympic ice skating hopefuls Maia and Alex Shibutani on their choreography since last year’s world championships in which they finished third in just their first season as senior skaters. Below are some takes from ESPN. Be sure to read the link in full as they write about how costume designer Randall Christensen helped them with their costumes as well.

The Shibutani siblings got in touch with Corky Ballas through their agent, using the Yamaguchi connection, and headed to Los Angeles to begin working with him after the worlds last summer.

“But we are the first skaters he’s worked with in a while,” Alex, 20, said. “Obviously with his background, his son, Mark, and Derek and Julianne, we were honored to work with him. He’s such a fun guy to work with. It was an intensive boot camp-style Latin training with him. He’s kept up with our performances. He thought we could use a breath of fresh air.”

The coaches had high praise for the Shibutanis’ performance.

“It was awesome, awesome,” Zueva said. “All the changes worked really well. Most Latin dance movement is very sharp off ice, but it totally disappears on the floor because the surface is different. [Ballas] found them the best movement on ice.”

They worked with Ballas again in Detroit after the ISU Grand Prix Final, where they finished fifth. Alex said they have gotten “really comfortable” with the Latin style, a break from their usual, more classical style.

“The new program is much more exciting and a much stronger vehicle for us,” Alex said.

Lastly, if you are a fan to dancing in general and huge dance productions, be sure to tune into the Super Bowl halftime tonight. According to the New York Post, Madonna will be dancing, performing and singing 3 classics: Vogue Vogue - Celebration , Ray Of Light Ray of Light - Ray of Light with Holiday Holiday - Madonna mixed in it, Like A Prayer Like a Prayer - Like a Prayer , and her new, hot single Give Me All Your Luvin Give Me All Your Luvin' (feat. Nicki Minaj, M.I.A.) - Give Me All Your Luvin' (feat. Nicki Minaj, M.I.A.) - Single from her new MDNA album Give Me All Your Luvin' (feat. Nicki Minaj, M.I.A.) - Single - Madonna . I wanted to give this a special mention since number one, I’m a huge fan 🙂 and, number two, Madonna did a Salsa in challenging Dancing With The Stars rumored contender Victor Cruise at a press conference on Thursday, and number three, Nappytabs has been helping with the production of it. As you know they’ve helped with choreography on Dancing With The Stars among many other dancing accomplishments in their career. They are also currently helping Derek Hough with his new movie Cobu3D. Below are some tweets Tabitha shared about rehearsals.

Yes, can you tell I’m excited? 🙂 Be sure to let us know your thoughts and here’s to a fun Super Bowl Holiday!! xxx

UPDATE: According to Madonna website Madonnarama, the Ray of Light and Holiday Mash-up has been replaced by Music(ft. LMFAO – “Party Rock Anthem/Sexy and I Know It” Remix). Also, there will be an
“Open Your Heart/Express Yourself” interlude to transition from Give me all your Luvin’ to Like a Prayer. Madonna has tried to keep the final setlist a secret as long as she could.

DWTS Bruno Tonioli On Judging, The Price Of Fame, Being Bullied, And More!

The Daily Mail has a great new article and interview up with Dancing With The Stars and Strictly Come Dancing Judge Bruno Tonioli. It’s centered mostly around his Strictly Come Dancing role, but, there is also a mention of how he will be returning for Season 14 of Dancing With The Stars. Bruno also dishes about being bullied when he was little because of being homosexual. Below is more of him talking about it and how fame and his busy schedule between the two dance shows have prevented him from finding a new partner. He also talks of being “very private” (which surprises me a little for how flamboyant he is on Dancing With The Stars).

One thing Bruno’s uncompromising schedule has not allowed time for is a boyfriend. The openly gay dancer has been single since splitting from a long-term partner during the early days of Strictly. Given his success, he must get a lot of offers?

‘No I don’t. Absolutely nothing. Do you have any suggestions for me?’ How about the internet? Bruno explodes. ‘I’m not going to sit on the b****y internet! Are you kidding me? I’m very private. I’m not even on Facebook.’

He believes his fame has made it more difficult to find a partner, because potential suitors expect him to have his bubbly judging persona on all hours of the day. ‘Simon Cowell said to me, “It’s because you’re stroppy.” Maybe he’s right, not that he can talk! But I am very direct, that’s the problem. People see me on TV and think I’m something, but in reality I can be quite blunt.’

Bruno has known he was gay since he was ten, and was often beaten up over it while growing up in Ferrara in north-east Italy. It was something he never discussed with his bus-driver father Werther or seamstress mother Fulvia. Today, he says the fact he could openly flirt with Harry Judd about his ‘amazing six-pack’ on Strictly shows how far attitudes have come. ‘Things have advanced enormously, especially thanks to TV. But it’s the grassroots that have to change. There are still a lot of kids who kill themselves because of bullying.’

An interesting read! Be sure to read the full article at The Daily Mail as he talks of being compared to Simon Cowell as a judge (I think he’s meaner than Simon, but, I still like him. What do you think?) as well and lots more.

More Coverage Of Dancing With The Stars’ Karina Smirnoff In Hawaii

Did you just have an “awwww” moment like I did? The pictures of Dancing With The Stars pro Karina Smirnoff in Hawaii continue and I think the above pic is the best from them all. In fact, I will go out on a limb and say I think this is one of Karina’s best photos that’s ever been taken of her thus far! If I was Karina, I’d be sure to get this picture as a hard copy for a memory book.

As you know from a previous posting, Karina has been in Hawaii to teach and promote her DanceFIT program, but, she’s been also taking time outs to enjoy everything Hawaii and it’s culture and people have to offer. Be sure to see The Daily Mail for more new, fun pics courtesy of Splash and Fly Net Pictures. You can see her on the beach and teaching some dance classes as well. Beautiful as always!

ADDING: Below is a new E News video with Karina. Thanks to Alecia for the heads up!!

Anna Trebunskaya Talks Forever Tango and Dancing With The Stars 14 Cast Reveal

As you might have read earlier, Dancing With The Stars’ Anna Trebunskaya is currently on tour with the cast of “Forever Tango”. This week, she traveled to Richmond, VA. WRIC News was able to catch up with her to ask her on the show. They also ask her about Dancing With The Stars and if she knows who her partner is yet. Anna starts out by saying that everything you hear is probably 99% not true and it will be the biggest kept secret until the reveal on Feb. 28th. The dancers don’t know anything and even whether they will be on the show or not. After that, they talk of “Forever Tango”. Anna even gives a Tango demonstration. She’s so cute as always.

Maks Chmerkovskiy, Kirstie Alley, Sherri Shepherd, Tony Dovolani Talk DWTS, All Star Season, & More

Entertainment Tonight interviewed Maks at his Birthday bash last Friday night!! He talks of how thankful he is for everyone who came for the event. He remarks on Demi Moore’s recent troubles saying he hopes everyone will leave her in peace so she can get better. Kirstie Alley is interviewed as well. She’s asked on whether she will be Mak’s partner if there is an “Dancing With The Stars All Star Season” which is possibly in the works two seasons from now as you might have read from a previous posting. They interview Tony and his wife. He plugs Victor Cruz for Dancing With The Stars. Check out Sherri Shepherd as well. She is literally dying to dance on Dancing With The Stars (in my opinion!). She remarks of wanting to Samba, but, doesn’t think she can “keep up with the youngsters”. Erin Andrews and Chelsie Hightower gives Maks’ future partners some good advise (and I mean some REALLY good advise!! LOL). Lots more below….

Below is Tony with Extra also interviewing Kirstie. He also asks her on the Dancing With The Stars All Star Season too. I am so game if she will be his partner!!

Dancing With The Stars Karina Smirnoff Finds Time For Hawaiian Fun In The Sun

Dancing With The Stars Pro Karina Smirnoff may be in Hawaii teaching some DanceFIT workshops currently (which you can view her doing below), but, that doesn’t mean she isn’t enjoying some fun in the Hawaiian sun. Karina has been posting pictures at her twitter account of the Islands as well as her learning how to “Hula” from some Middle School girls who say she is a “natural” at it. Are we surprised? Be sure to check the pics out here when you get a chance. Karina is gorgeous as always. You can view more pictures like the one above at Zimbio. I want that hat!! 🙂

Thanks to PureDWTS reader Alicia for the video above!!xx

ADDING: Karina did a new interview with KITV.com in Hawaii today. She talks about last season and her DanceFIT program. She also mentions the pros finding out who they get for partners around Feb. 26th. More here. She looks really pretty. I love her hair right now.

DWTS13 End-of-Season Award Winners – What Change Do You Most Want to See in Season 14?

Soooooo many write-in responses for this one…and the results were quite interesting 😉

Other responses:

No more theme nights – 10

No Maks/Maks taking a break/Maks sitting out a season/get rid of Maks – 9

New judges – 7 (I think this could fit under “better judging”, as it’s implied that “better judging” could be new judges altogether…)

More Tristan – 4

Better quality of dances/ringers/celebs with better dancing capabilities – 4

No troupe/troupe actually dancing in sync – 3

All of the above – 3

More Derek – 3

Replace Brooke with Carson/Carson added in any format – 2

Get rid of Brooke/new co-host – 2

Bring Chelsie back – 2

Bigger cast/more celebs – 2

I love the show the way it is/If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – 2

Better band – 1

Start sooner – 1

TIE: Better judging & better music – 1

Less talking in between dances – 1

More traditional music (no Katy Perry/Gaga/Beyonce/etc.) – 1

Less Derek – 1

No more Carrie Ann – 1

NO MORE NANCY – 1 (Ummm yeah, pretty sure you don’t have to worry about that, ya asshat.)

Total season’s votes included in calculation of winners – 1

Better intro packages before the dances – 1 (HA! Keep dreaming…)

Courtney: Thank goodness this is the last award, because you guys (as much as I love you all) are killing me with all of these write-in responses.  Anywho…I agree that improving the judging could definitely help take some of the edge off of watching the show.  Looking back at a lot of my power rankings from the past few seasons, I see that I most often got upset when the judges were way off in their scoring…either for better or worse.  Now I don’t think getting rid of the judges we have and starting anew is the solution – and it seems like a lot of you agreed in our poll about the judges last season – new judges altogether could be even worse, especially if those judges haven’t judged on a dance show before.  However, I’m not sure how to really force Len, Carrie Ann, and Bruno to judge more fairly – it’s such a subjective thing.  As for “better celebs” – I guess I should have been more specific about that one, as “better” can mean different things to different people – better could mean “more famous”, or better could mean “more skilled dancers”.  And speaking of which – there is something to be said for having ringers, kids.  The past 2 seasons, we haven’t really had a skill ringer – and I notice that a lot of you have complained that the dancing has not been as good as it has in previous seasons.  Ringers can ensure that we get to see dynamite dances each week, and tend to raise the level of competition during the seasons in which they compete.  More pro dances are always welcome for me – just as long as they’re not troupe dances 😉 Better music? Yeah, it would be nice if they didn’t ditto quite so many songs; but to whoever wants “more traditional” music, be advised that this could severely limit the music that can be used on the show, and can run the risk of alienating more casual viewers – contemporary music can make the dances more relatable.  I don’t think we need more dance styles OR more couples – whenever someone starts clamoring for that, I start to worry that we might have another season 9 on our hands, aka the “Kitchen Sink” season, where there were just so damn many dances, couples, and nuances that it was hard to keep up.  Now to the 2 write-ins I found most interesting: “total season’s votes included in calculation of winners” and “better intro packages before the dances”.  Sorry, but I find both of these to be pretty implausible.  What would including the total season’s votes in the calculation of the winner accomplish? Do you really think it would change the outcome of a season? It’s possible – but it could have unintended consequences.  I think it would tend to help bad dancers who stuck around far too long (think Bristol, Marie, Hope, Kendra, etc.) and could hurt really good dancers that maybe had smaller fanbases (Mya, Chelsea, Brandy, etc.) The bottom line: as much as the whole “50 % scores, 50% votes” scheme may piss off fans who don’t get their desired outcome, it’s probably the fairest system they can use on this show – it’s equal parts popularity contest and dance contest.  And as for the “better intro packages before the dances” – I have to wonder if this was written by a Maks fan, as they seemed to be the ones most concerned about the intro packages this past season.  I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again – the producers are going to cut together the footage that will generate the most “buzz”…and if that means using the footage of a couple fighting or crying or storming out of the studio, so be it.  The solution? Don’t give them anything negative to work with.  If you’re seeing a couple fight in their intro packages week after week, it’s because they’re probably actually fighting week after week and that’s all the editors have to work with – not because the producers are conspiring to ruin them.  Asking them to make a warring couple look like they’ve got rainbows shooting out of their ass is futile if all they have footage of is a couple screaming at each other.  It’s a tv show, people – they’re gonna go for ratings.

Heidi: Correct – and any pro who’s been on the show for more than a season KNOWS this and SHOULD react accordingly. Just sayin’.  🙂  As for the total season votes? I don’t think that will work like you would want it to work. 🙂 Increasing the number of votes  would likely just make the winner more of a solid winner – it’s a percentage of the whole, not a count. If they don’t have a high enough percentage at the end of the season, adding in their votes through out the season won’t likely change anything, except make the individual votes count less. Particularly if the judging portion remains the same.  You wanna make it votes only, like American Idol?? Well, how often does the best singer win that show?? Like, less than half the time? And who’s to say an individual is “best” – it’s subjective.  The judges may suck from time to time (particularly when they are for YOUR couple), but I actually trust them to balance out the wacko fans in the audience who will vote for Kate Gosselin just for giggles.  Was Donny Osmond the best dancer? No, but if it were up to the audience alone, Mya probably wouldn’t have made it to the final two. This is an extreme case of “be careful what you wish for.” I have a feeling that some haven’t considered the potential ramifications.  As for me…I don’t remember what I voted for.  I may not have voted because I pretty much like the show the way it is, better the “devil you know” and all that. I would normally say “more pro (non-troupe) dances” but I was pretty happy with that this past season as well, simply because I got a lot of Derek. For a change. I do think they could use more all pro dances similar to those in seasons 5 and 6 – no musical act, just great dancing.

Vogue: I was at a loss on this polling. It seems during the last several seasons I complain the most about the judging. I really think the judges go too far sometimes when they get too “personal” instead of just judging a dance. For instance, dissing about a person’s weight or things a celebrity can’t help is just low. At the same time, I really don’t want any judging changes as all three of them add excitement and diversity to the show. In the end, I voted for “better music”. There is so many times I wish they’d stick to traditional music that fits the dancing styles instead of what they use for theme weeks that don’t match the style of dance.

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.
