DWTS 15, Week 6 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Heidi: We’re a bit short on awards this week. I mean, we could go on and on about Taylor Swift and Brooke, but that gets a bit redundant after a while. 🙂

Biggest Disconnect Between Dancers & Music: The troupe’s opening performance to Little Big Town

Courtney: So what do you get when you take three Aussies, a Russian mail order bride, a Dane, and a Brit, dress them up in cowpoke gear, and make them dance to a song about a type of boat pretty exclusive to the States? A rather confused performance.  😛 I can only imagine what kind of questions got tossed around backstage after this wonder…perhaps Oksana asking “What is pontoon? Is like U-boat?”

Heidi: I think their mojo was off. Mail Order Bride’s hair was all crimped and curled and very unlethal. It’s like Sampson after a haircut. I think I’ve explained this before. 🙂

The Award for Best, Unintentionally Filthy Dialogue: Shawn Johnson, Melissa Rycroft and Derek Hough for their “They’re cute” and “They’re Big” Discussion in the Behind-the-Scenes Video Tape

Heidi: That whole conversation was cracking me up. I have this vision of the producers seeing that footage and rolling on the floor laughing, while planning how they can air something that sounds dirty but isn’t. I’ve been of the opinion that Derek was crushing on Melissa back in her original season because of how he talked to her. And here he does a typical guy thing and Melissa? Hilarious. But the best bit was Shawn telling Melissa authoritatively that “they’re big” then reassuring Derek that they’re big. It’s okay, Derek, Melisssa called them cute. Not what you were going for, I know.  Um….what was the “they” that they were talking about again?? 😉

Courtney: Somehow I think Melissa has outgrown the whole “I must appeal to the male ego” phase that 20-something women go through, before figuring out that men need to get their balls busted every now & then in order to keep them in check 😛 Shawn? I think she just wants to protect everyone.  It’s actually kinda cute…both of them.  😛 Read more..

DWTS Season 15 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 7: What Do You Think?

Our apologies for being a little late with the Las Vegas Odds! For some reason, all the betting sites have been later than the norm posting them this week. Is this a sign the odds makers are overly undecided? 😯 I don’t know. None the less, below are Sports Bovada’s odds leading up to Week 7 of Dancing With The Stars. Note how the placements are the same, but, the numbers are tighter in some cases and/or the same or higher in others.

Shawn Johnson 10/11
Emmitt Smith 13/4
Gilles Marini 7/2
Apolo Anton Ono 9/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 40/1
Kirstie Alley 66/1

Last week’s Las Vegas Odds going into Week 5 to compare:

Shawn Johnson 1/1
Emmitt Smith 7/2
Gilles Marini 9/2
Apolo Anton Ono 6/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 33/1
Sabrina Bryan 50/1
Kirstie Alley 75/1

In my opinion, Apolo should be in second place (or even first?) and Emmitt in third. I don’t think Gilles is going to make the top three like many think. I mean…is his fan base really that big? My Dad (an avid fan to the show for about 4 or 5 years now) keeps asking me who Gilles, Melissa, and Kelly are and that to me is a little telling being he kept asking me who Sabrina was too and the next thing we know and regardless of scores and ability to dance, Sabrina is a goner. I also still think it’s a mistake to underestimate Kirstie in this competition. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her make it to atleast 4th place….that is, if she can still make some strong showings on the dance floor as she has the last couple of weeks.

Lets get Miss Heidi and Court’s thoughts on the new odds and be sure to let us know what you think too in comments….

Heidi: I just don’t get the Emmitt thing. I mean, he’s faded into the woodwork on this this show.  Are they basing their odds on how well football players have done in the past?? I agree with Vogue – I really think Apolo should be up at the top with Shawn. Of course, it’s my bias talking when I say I really want Gilles to be the next “shocking” elimination. 🙂 As for Shawn – she’s certainly capable of winning it, but I think it depends on if Len keeps it up with his games.  He did it with Nicole and it was very obvious as well – but I don’t think that Shawn can afford that sort of game playing in an all star season AND when they throw so many dances into one elimination, reducing the spread significantly.  This week is week 7. If history holds true, it’s week 8 when Len finally gives it up. I think he should give it up a bit earlier than normal, but the urge to make it a horse race is overwhelming.  Which brings us to Kirstie. Clearly the odds makers aren’t going on a week to week scoring basis because Kirstie is still in the bottom and Kelly is up there in 5th place. I don’t know – I think that (unfortunately)  the odds dudes have the bottom three correct, but I ‘m not sure that’s the order they should be in. I guess we’ll see.

Courtney: The Emmitt thing blows my mind – I get it, the guy is charming, but he’s also just been a relatively ho-hum dancer this season, who’s been ending up at the middle-to-lower end of the scoreboard pretty consistently.  He hasn’t done anything that has shown me that he’s suddenly a contender for the MBT.  And while the NFL fanbase is considerable, I don’t see it overtaking the Olympian fanbase.  And I’m not sure why Apolo’s odds dropped and Gilles’ rose, in a week where Apolo got a perfect score (and lavish praise from the judges) and Gilles performed a bizarre, androgynous dance that left the judges kind of puzzled.  Unless the oddsmakers are playing into the same fallacy that so many viewers seem to be playing into: that “in jeopardy” and “in the bottom 2” mean the same thing.  Couldn’t be further from the truth – for all we know, Apolo could have been the highest vote-getter last week, but hey, somebody’s got to be in jeopardy.  As for those hanging out at the bottom – I don’t think Kirstie’s going to get to the finale, or even the semifinals.  Sorry kids – but I don’t see her faring well in fusion dance, and I’m anticipating she’ll be first out in the marathon dance; as for next week – she’s likely going to end up with one of the waltzes (if it’s Viennese, she’s a goner, methinks) and the trio dance…and I’m not sure those dances really favor her, either.  Plus she’s the only contestant left that we know for sure has been in the bottom 2.  I think she’s probably going to be part of the week 8 double elim – and it’s going to be a toss-up on who joins her there.  Maybe Melissa, maybe Kelly, hopefully Gilles.  Lord knows how anyone else is faring in the votes.

DWTS Season 15 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 6: Agree or Disagree?

What a difference a week of dances make on Dancing With The Stars again. The Odds Makers at Sports Bovada have placed their bets again. First, check out Shawn Johnson! In all of the time I’ve been writing these odds up have I ever seen such strong odds favoring someone and rightfully so. Shawn is off the hook. Emmitt Smith has risen up the ladder to second place again. Apolo and Kelly have both fallen some. Note too how the odds makers are even more convinced this week that Kirstie Alley is going home which I still think they are wrong about. Same with Sabrina. I think it should be Kelly at the bottom this week.

Shawn Johnson 1/1
Emmitt Smith 7/2
Gilles Marini 9/2
Apolo Anton Ono 6/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 33/1
Sabrina Bryan 50/1
Kirstie Alley 75/1

Last week’s Las Vegas Odds going into Week 5 to compare:

Shawn Johnson 7/5
Apolo Anton Ono 4/1
Emmitt Smith 4/1
Kelly Monaco 5/1
Gilles Marini 6/1
Melissa Rycroft 25/1
Sabrina Bryan 50/1
Kirstie Alley 66/1

So, what do you think? Are the odds makers in Las Vegas wrong or right this time? Let’s get Miss Heidi’s and Courtney’s thoughts….

Courtney: These oddsmakers seem to get far too influenced by the ups and downs of each week.  I think it takes at least 2 weeks of really good (or really bad) performances to see a pattern that could genuinely affect the odds.  I also think the split performance nights may have negatively affected certain individuals while helping others – Emmitt may have had the most memorable individual performance of the first night, but it pales in comparison to every routine we saw on Tuesday night; yet he got so hyped and overscored on Monday night (and everyone on Tuesday night, with the exception of Sabrina, got low-balled) that it gives the impression that he’s a legitimate frontrunner, and he rises back to 2nd place – which I highly doubt.  Likewise, 3 of the 4 couples that danced on Tuesday night seemed to get lowballed, and I think that negatively affected their odds – even though I think it was kind of obvious they had the superior dances.  And then there’s Shawn – what exactly did she do this week that suddenly made her a sure thing? Like Vogue, I also think they may be underestimating the rebound effect of Kirstie’s fans – even if a couple is ultimately destined for the chopping block, they often seem to experience a surge in votes the week after they’re in the bottom 2.  I think that could happen for Kirstie this week…and I think the most likely candidates to take her place in the bottom 2 are Kelly & Melissa.  But who knows – this season is weird.  It makes my head spin 😛

Heidi: Um, no. I’m still of the opinion that Apolo will ultimately edge out Shawn.  And I think he will definitely edge out Gilles. I was going to say that I think they have the bottom three all wrong, but then I remember these are odds to WIN. I think Emmitt and Kelly are both too high, Sabrina a touch too low. If the standings remain the same this week, I think Kirstie beats Kelly. Courtney’s right, though – this season is CRAZY. I think the closest things to a “sure thing” are Apolo and Shawn – and if the judges keep on with the crack, I could change my mind about both.  The rest? I hope like hell Gilles is a “shocking” elimination but that’s about it. I would hate to be an odds maker because it’s too hard to call the finale. Maybe that’s why the called Shawn even money – the rest are too fluid and uncertain.

DWTS Season 15 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 5: Agree or Disagree?

What an interesting shake up we’ve had in Las Vegas Odds from for Dancing With The Stars these last few weeks! According to Sports Bovada again, we have Shawn leading the odds with Apolo and Emmitt tied and not far behind which I agree with. In fact, I agree with all the placements the odds makers have wagered below except for Kirstie Alley who they keep wanting to give such low odds to. She’s danced fairly well these last few weeks and they shouldn’t be underestimating her and Maks’ fan base which I would think dominates Sabrina’s, Melissa’s, Gilles’, and Kelly’s fan bases? Also note how Kelly’s odds are stronger compared to the week before and she moved up a place higher than Gilles. Interesting and deserving in my opinion!!

New Las Vegas Odds going into Week 5:

Shawn Johnson 7/5
Apolo Anton Ono 4/1
Emmitt Smith 4/1
Kelly Monaco 5/1
Gilles Marini 6/1
Melissa Rycroft 25/1
Sabrina Bryan 50/1
Kirstie Alley 66/1

Last week’s odds going into week 4, to compare:

Shawn Johnson – 7/4
Apolo Anton Ohno – 9/4
Emmitt Smith – 7/2
Gilles Marini – 13/2
Kelly Monaco – 12/1
Melissa Rycroft – 15/1
Bristol Palin – 25/1
Sabrina Bryan – 33/1
Kirstie Alley – 50/1

Summing it up…again, I think the odds makers have pegged it, but, I think Sabrina should be at the bottom with Kirstie or Melissa second to last.

Let’s get my fellow Partners In Crimes thoughts on the matter and be sure to let us know what you think too in the comments section…..

Courtney: My only complaint here is that I still think Emmitt is too high – at this point I think Kelly or Gilles has a better chance of making it to the finale than he does.  I like Emmitt as a person – he seems to be a nice guy and is having fun this season; but I don’t really see the hunger to win in him like I do in most of the others.  But then again, he does seem to be getting some pretty cushy scores…but the judges do seem to be a lot less “enchanted” with him as the weeks wear on.  Who knows what’s going on there. But I am quite glad to see Gilles getting edged out by Kelly 😉 Now if only Melissa makes some big moves this week and can overtake him as well! As for Kirstie – I do think after her bottom 2 appearance this week, they’ve got it about right.  Skill-wise, she’s just not really a match for anyone else this season, and I think some of the votes she would have gotten on a regular season are now going to other contestants who might share her fanbase (possibly Kelly & Melissa, maybe Emmitt).  I think it’s safe to say she isn’t going to win this season – but how much longer will she stick around?

Heidi: I think Kirstie is in the right spot as well. Sabrina has the potential to get great scores. Kirstie? Not so much, relative to other dancers. Since she was in the bottom two this past week, any bad score could do her in, whereas Sabrina could possibly be spared by a really great dance.  The key will be that Sabrina do well on Monday and that her team does well in the team dance. I think Kirstie beats her in votes probably easily, but with a good margin Sabrina has shown she can hang on. I think the margin that Kirstie failed to beat was 17k. If that happens again, I think Kirstie goes…unless someone unexpected falls to the bottom. Like Melissa. I kinda think that Emmitt might not be as strong as anyone thinks either. Between Apolo, Shawn, Gilles and even Melissa/Sabrina, he seems kinda forgettable.  He’s definitely too high in the rankings, IMO.

Dancing With The Stars All Stars: Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 3

Once again, the odds makers in Las Vegas are placing their bets for who will win the Dancing With The Stars All Stars Season. Going into Week 3, Sports Bovada is reporting an even tight race for 1st place between Emmitt and Apolo. Note how Shawn has made a move up the board to fighting Gilles for the 3rd position. Also, take note for how the odds makers had it completely wrong on Joey last week….

New Las Vegas Odds going into Week 3:

Emmitt Smith 2/1
Apolo Anton Ono 3/1
Gilles Marini 5/1
Shawn Johnson 5/1
Helio Castroneves 9/1
Sabrina Bryan 10/1
Kelly Monaco 22/1
Kirstie Alley 22/1
Melissa Rycroft 25/1
Drew Lachey 30/1
Bristol Palin 75/1

Dancing With The Stars Season 15: Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 2

The odds makers are placing their bets again for who will win the Dancing With The Stars All Stars at Sports Bovada. As you can see, they’ve got Emmitt and Apolo neck in neck in first and second place. They’ve put Melissa and Bristol tied for last…

Emmitt Smith 3/2
Apolo Anton Ono 7/2
Gilles Marini 11/2
Helio Castroneves 11/2
Shawn Johnson 8/1
Joey Fatone 15/1
Kelly Monaco 20/1
Kirstie Alley 20/1
Sabrina Bryan 25/1
Drew Lachey 30/1
Bristol Palin 50/1
Melissa Rycroft 50/1

So, do the odds makers have it right or wrong?

In my opinion, they probably have it right on the top two currently, but, they are under estimating Shawn Johnson. She should be higher, while Helio should be lower. I also think they are totally wrong for putting Melissa Rycroft in last place. I think she should be placed in the middle somewhere. I also think Kelly is going to make a strong showing and should be placed higher. Let’s get Miss Heidi’s and Court’s thoughts and be sure to tell us what you think in the comment section too.

Heidi: Totally don’t buy Emmitt in the winning position. I don’t think he’s got that kind of juice. I still think this is going to come down to Apolo, Gilles and Shawn, with Apolo winning. That said…Gilles could find himself replaced with Emmitt if he doesn’t lighten up. While he is beautiful to look at, I’m not finding him charming or fun this season AT ALL.  And as William Levy can tell you, good looks are only good for third place in a regular season. In this one?? Maybe not so much. Lucky for him he’s likely going to get some “help” since he’s a card carrying member of the ABC family. Literally. 🙂  The bottom?? I’m thinking it should be Bristol and Drew, but the reality probably IS Drew and Melissa.  If they keep doing a real bottom two, we’ll soon find out. 🙂

Courtney: I’m not convinced at this point that Emmitt is gonna walk away with that trophy – and definitely not with odds that good. I don’t think one good dance in week one is indicative of much right now, considering that most of the couples did pretty well – aside from Pam, no one really did terribly this week.  I’m waiting for a dance like to jive to come along so we can really see what Emmitt’s made of – we know he’s got a great personality, now the question is: can he hang with the youngin’s? Because he is one of the older contestants this season, and like Kirstie, I think he may struggle with endurance.  Still puzzled as to why they have Helio so high.  I would put Apolo & Gilles at about even odds right now, but if Gilles’ whining about injuries, phone numbers, etc. continues, I would expect Apolo to begin to edge him out.  And really & truly, at this point I’d put Drew at the bottom – because he clearly is lacking in the votes department, and I’m not so sure that’s going to improve in the coming week.

Dancing with the Stars Season 15, Week 1 – Dancing by the Numbers

All in all, a great start to the All Star season!! A whole bunch of fantastic dancing, with few exceptions, no doubt. And yet…we still have a couple instances of really hinky scoring and other hijinks. So, we’ll give Shawn and Kirstie extremely bad songs for foxtrots, give Gilles and other men PERFECT songs and then we’ll be extra sure and not only pimp Emmett, but overscore him as well. I love Gilles and think he was overscored relative to the other couples, but Emmett?? I smell fish. I’ll just echo Courtney and add…Gilles works for ABC, and Emmett is a football player scoring high on MONDAY Night. The female football audience?? Yeah, that’s not suspicious at all. :::rolls eyes:::

But, after all my moaning….those scores are essentially irrelevant because the exactly wrong person was the low scorer and by a significant margin. Anyway…

The Judges Scores and Percentages

As you probably deduced all on your own, Pam and Tristan are in real trouble. The judges were absolutely right when they called her out on her lack of preparation – seems clear they are paying attention to studio time this season, like they have occasionally in the past, and it’s going to be noted if you don’t do well AND you weren’t putting in the time. It’s the All Star Season. It’s to be expected.

Anyway, what does Pam have to do in order to survive to dance again? Pray. And hope that someone else (Drew? Helio?) is completely forgotten. In terms of votes she needs to do ONE of the following in order to be safe:

–          Pam has to get 7,340 more votes per million votes cast than Kirstie, OR;

–          She needs to get 9,050 more votes per million votes cast than Bristol, OR;

–          She needs to get 12,660 more votes per million votes cast than Joey, OR;

–          She needs to get 14,470 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR,

–          She needs to get 16,280 more votes per million votes cast than either Drew, Helio or Kelly, OR;

–          She needs to get 18,100 more votes per million votes cast than either Shawn or Apolo

I could go on but I won’t. You get the picture. The only one of these that I could see happening is Melissa or Helio…with an outside shot of Drew.  I don’t think that Pam has the juice to get past either Bristol or Kirstie….or Joey….but I’m going to say right now that Melissa and Helio could be surprises. If there is such a thing as a surprise elimination this season.

Anyway, let’s say that by some miracle (and crazy Tristan fans 🙂 ) Pam survives.  Kirstie is the next lowest scorer. In order to stay in the event that Pam gets past her, she would need the ONE of the following:

–          Kirstie  has to get 1,810 more votes per million votes cast than Bristol, OR;

–          She needs to get  5,430 more votes per million votes cast than Joey, OR;

–          She needs to get 7,240 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR,

–          She needs to get 9,050 more votes per million votes cast than either Drew, Helio or Kelly

Yeah, I think she can do all that easily. I don’t think she’s in trouble. Bristol? Needs ONE of the following to happen if both Kirstie and Bristol survive:

–          Bristol needs to get  3,620 more votes per million votes cast than Joey, OR;

–          She needs to get 5,430 more votes per million votes cast than Melissa, OR,

–          She needs to get 7,240 more votes per million votes cast than either Drew, Helio or Kelly

This is where I’m less sure. I don’t know if Bristol has it this season like she did in her original season. These are the all stars!!

I could go on and on, but at the end of the day, I think Pam is going home.  If there’s a shock, I think it will be Melissa.   If there is a real surprise that I don’t discuss here, I’ll do a numbers wrap up. 🙂

Nightline And Good Morning America Cover The Premiere Of DWTS, Interviews And Reviews

So, last night after the Dancing With The Stars premiere, Nightline had interviews with Shawn Johnson, Gilles Marini, and Melissa Rycroft where they chatted about the competition and whether it’s harder or easier to do the show again. Gilles says it will be challenging to live up to expectations. Melissa is the most afraid of the athletes. You can watch this interview at Nightline here.

More of the cast and Tom Bergeron dish on Dancing With The Stars, what to expect, and the competition at this Nightline link too. They review the first dances as well.

Lastly, Wendy Williams gives her take on the first dances on Dancing With The Stars last at Good Morning America. Wendy says Emmitt was born to dance and he “glides”. She thinks the half points will help the contestants. Wendy is secretly rooting for Kirstie and Maks, but, she doesn’t think they will make the top five. It’s going to be a tough season and the contestants will have to bring everything. She thinks Apolo and Shawn will be in the top three. Sabrina will make the top five and, of course, Emmitt. She predicts Pamela is going home tonight because there was no chemistry with Tristan (wha?? I thought they had great chemistry. She just didn’t dance that well). Lots more at Good Morning America. So, what do you think of Wendy’s review? Did she nail it? Pretty much so, I think. I think Val and Kelly could possibly make the top three as well if they perform strong and have all the elements like they did last night. And then there is Gilles and Peta! 😯 Wowza, we have ourselves a competition, don’t we?

Stay tuned for Heidi’s NUMBERS post next! 😉 xx

PureDWTS Season 15: Media Wrap-Up After The First Dance (Videos)

Wow, what a night!! The dancing was out of this world and, to think, this is only the beginning of the season. Are you happy? Did you have a lot of “glitter” moments like I did? So, let’s get the couples reactions from On The Red Carpet with George Pennacchio….

First up, Shawn tells George she and Derek had a great start and are happy with their scores. Derek says their journey is about a lot of things, not, just dancing well. They talk of how they are both “perfectionists”. Derek says Shawn is perfect right now. So cute. Right after watching this, be sure you hop right over to Pure Derek Hough. Heidi has lots more on these two.

Tristan and Pam! Pam says she she’s got the fantasy part down and the character, she just needs to rehearse more and be consistent in dancing. They have a lot of plans if they make it. George reassures her of how much she is loved…an awww moment (I love this guy! he told her just what she needed to hear).

Kirstie and Maks! Kirstie comments on the low scores , but, says they can only go up now. She feels stronger than before. She says they need to step it up notch because everyone is amazing! Maks says they are right where he wants them to be. Maks says they are going to just have fun every week which is the most important. Kirstie explains her character which she loved playing and how the judges described it.

Val and Kelly are happy with their scores and they had so much fun. If they get voted off, Kelly would be happy since they did their best. Val talks of how he tried to turn Kelly’s fault of not dancing for so long into a charm. Kelly talks of how the cast of General Hospital is supporting her and how thankful she is.

Emmitt is excited for the moment they had last night! They are soaking the moment up. They wore green to bridge the old to the new and to set the standard last night. George says Emmitt reminded us of the joy he brings to the dance floor. So true.
