PureDWTS Season 19: What’s Happening With The Troupe?

This is an interesting new scoop from Kristyn Burtt below. She mentions that no one from the troupe of Dancing With The Stars has been notified to dance yet. It makes me wonder if there will be a troupe and if they are planning to do something new? I’m kind of wishing they’d do something new and be more flexible with it. Why not have a bigger mix of pros from the past (Gleb, Sharna, Anna, Dmitry, Kym, Chelsie, Lacy, Louis, Tristan, etc?), present, and new pros on it too. Keep us guessing for who might show up next every week. Whatever the case, I have to admit I wasn’t that impressed with the troupe last season. I was missing Gleb Savchenko in the troupe especially. What are your thoughts on the troupe right now? Let’s see what Heidi and Court think too.

Courtney: If I remember correctly, the troupe is usually the last thing that gets booked each season – I feel like we didn’t know the entire troupe until right before the actual cast announcement last season.  But it does seem to bug that nobody from last season’s troupe (minus Artem, who was upgraded to pro) has heard a peep from TPTB.  And considering that Gleb’s wife mentioned he would be back on the show in some capacity this season and then he posted this and this on Instagram last night, I wonder if TPTB are backpedaling on some deals they might have made. I think having the troupe has worked too well for them in the past for them to scrap it altogether, but maybe they’re cleaning house and going for a brand new troupe – all new faces that they could potentially see as pros in a future season.  Paul Karmiryan? More borrowed talent from SYTYCD? Pros from other versions of DWTS? Who knows.  If I’m being honest, I think the only person that’s probably worth saving from last season’s troupe is Jenna – Lindsay has just been stagnating in the troupe for a year now, and as I’ve said before, Sasha’s height is a very limiting factor despite his talent.  Then again, maybe they have every intent of resurrecting last season’s troupe, and are just in no hurry to do so – with a new executive producer at the helm, we just don’t have any precedent for the timetable on which these things might happen.

Heidi: I’m inclined to think that they just haven’t decided anything yet. They might see the troupe as something of an after thought. Is that callous? Sure it is. But it’s Hollywood. It’s a very callous business.  If they see a benefit to the troupe, they will have one. Will they have new faces? Probably, if the intent is still to have it as a breeding ground for future Pros. As for Gleb…if you Read more..

Wasn’t the Dancing With The Stars Troupe fantastic last night? I loved seeing and watching them. I also have to give props to Sharna Burgess again. Recently she and her boyfriend, Paul Kirkland, took part in the NOH8 2012 Campaign. You can view an amazing photo of them at NOH8 Campaign’s Official site at this link. Other celebs photographed were JoJo, Kathy Griffin, Jane Lynch, and the EC Twins to name a few.

Sharna Burgess Recaps Her Summer, Shares Thoughts On New DWTS All Star Cast

This is fun!! As promised, Dancing With Stars Sharna Burgess has written to us all about her summer and what a busy and fun summer at that from her working in London, taking a little vacation time, and returning back to the States to work on So You Think You Can Dance and judging the Hip Hop International tournament. She’s excited about the new All Star season of Dancing With The Stars and has some fun thoughts to share with us on that as well. THANKS SHARNA!!! You rock! We can’t wait for you to be back on the show too and do “your thing”!!!!! Without further ado, more below from the beautiful and talented Sharna (including pics)….

Pure DWTS “Summer Recap”
by Sharna Burgess

My thoughts on the new cast:

Wow what an exciting diverse bunch! I was surprised they bought back so many mirror ball winners, but at the same time each of them are great competitive energies to throw into the mix. I think it will be very interesting to watch these guys the second time around – the defending champions should be just as nervous as the rest! I know the runner-ups like Kirstie Alley, are definitely looking to take that mirror ball home. Even the old favorites coming back are in it to win it! Everyone is coming in on an even playing field, they now all have dance experience and know what to expect. It’s not about getting to know them anymore, it’s about what they can do! It definitely won’t be any easier the second time round, as the bar has been raised and we expect to see some fantastic dancing this season!

My summer has been crazy! Between flying straight to London after DWTS, judging Hip Hop International, the USA championships held in Vegas, and working on SYTYCD… I have been a busy girl! Read more..

PureDWTS Personal Interview With The Passionate And ‘Gypsy At Heart’ Sharna Burgess

We have an exclusive “one on one” personal interview with Dancing With The Stars Troupe member Sharna Burgess. As most of you know, I love the Troupe!! Not only do we get to see new dancing talent and a way to see even more dancers dancing on the show, they are the future of Dancing With The Stars as we have seen so far with the addition of the amazing pros Peta Murgatroyd and Tristan MacManus. So, without further ado, below is Sharna on her life and career so far for how and when she began dancing. When I read her answers, I was amazed at how much work she’s done on other dancing and movie projects and Dancing With The Stars “behind the scenes”. I also loved what she said about her other interests, being “a gypsy at heart” and why, and her compassion for her pets and animal rescue in general. Also, did you know she was the lead Latin Choreographer for “StreetDance 2 3D“? She also says there are some amazing things coming up for Dancing With The Stars in the next couple of weeks. Enjoy and if you have any further questions you’d like to ask and know about Sharna, leave them below in the comments section (as well as your thoughts) and we’ll be sure she receives them and feature them at Pure Dancing With The Stars in another new post in the coming weeks. So, below is the beautiful Sharna….

To begin, you are such a beautiful and passionate dancer, how long have you been dancing? How were you inspired to dance and who is your greatest dancing mentor?

Thank you!! Wow I’ve been dancing now for about 20 years (quite frightening how fast that’s gone!). I started when I was 6 with jazz, ballet and tap, and I was 8 when I started ballroom. I was a very active kid, in between singing into hairbrushes and making up dance routines in my lounge room, I was outside climbing trees, riding bikes and playing with all the kids in my neighborhood. I grew up in a country town called Wagga Wagga(Australia) until I was 12, so I was blessed to have a lot of freedom.

I kind of fell into dancing because I was that kid that was in everything. Sports teams, dance class, gymnastics, and swimming. I was always busy doing something. And I had potential for all of it. But even when you’re that young, something sticks to you more then the other. When I was 12 we moved to Sydney and it was too difficult to try and continue everything, simply put we couldn’t afford it in the big city. So I chose dance, it wasn’t difficult, I knew what I wanted the most. I found my passion, and I didn’t need the rest of it.

Its very difficult to pick a mentor, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the worlds best and most respected ballroom dancers, and each of them special for their own strengths. I think possibly, the man who helped me find who I was as a dancer was Jason Gilkison. He taught me to discover myself through dance. It was quite an amazing transformation, realizing that being different and unique is a strength not a disadvantage.

My greatest idols however!! I think everybody in this industry will mention Michael Jackson, and I am no exception to that. I respect and admire creative individuality, innovation and breaking the rules.

Taking a look back to your first competition dance: what was it like and what do you remember the most about it? Also, what is your greatest memory looking back at your competition days?

LOL!!! BIG HAIR…. BIG BIG HAIR! That’s what I remember most :)   My first competition I was in a lime green costume, my mum was fussing over me with lipstick and hair, making everything perfect. And my Grandma and Dad had THE proudest looks on their faces I think I’ve ever seen. I danced right in front of them on the floor, and I can still hear my dads voice cheering “COME ON MICHAEL AND SHARNA”. It wasn’t long after that we were traveling up and down Australia doing all the bigger competitions, and despite my young age, I had goals, I wanted to win… I wanted to be the best. It’s kind of special to remember that first day, my parents are my biggest supporters. Without them I would not be here answering your questions, I owe them a lot.

My greatest memory isn’t necessarily my greatest accomplishment. From the minute I started setting goals, the one at the very top of my list was hearing my name announced while walking down the staircase in the final of the Australian Open Championships. At the time that seemed like the biggest thing in the world I could do! And at 14 I made the Junior Open Latin final and walked down those stairs. It was incredible, the feeling of accomplishment, and hearing the arena erupt with all of my friends and family supporting me. I was walking on air and that smile didn’t leave my face for days!

How did it come about when you were asked to be on Dancing With The Stars?

‘Behind The Scenes’ With Dancing With The Stars Troupe Members Sasha Farber And Emma Slater

Last week, Extra interviewed Emma Slater and Sasha Farber who are on the Dancing With The Stars Troupe. So much of the time, we see comments from fans thinking that the dancers from the troupe are “too new” or wouldn’t be and/or aren’t good enough to be pros which isn’t necessarily the case. Like the teaching pros, some members of the troupe have been dancing since they were kids and have earned their stars on a competitive level and/or in popular Broadway and West End shows like “Burn The Floor”, etc. Anyway, here’s a little, fun segment Extra did with Sasha and Emma “behind the scenes” in getting to know them a little better….

Dancing with the Stars 2011 Special Guest Music – Dance Troupe and Chris Brown

I sometimes try to list the music that’s used on the DWTS results show. Although, sometimes it’s hard to figure out and sometimes there’s not enough to mess around with the list of music from the DWTS results show. I’ll give it a whirl tonight.

Chris Brown performed the song “Yeah 3x” Yeah 3X - F.A.M.E. (Deluxe Version) with cameo appearance from Bailey (aka B-boy Bailrok) who was part of Future Funk on America’s Got Talent.

Chris Brown performed a laser inspired performance to the song “Forever.” Forever - Forever - Single

A bunch of people on Twitter were complaining about Chris Brown lip syncing and of course there’s the commentary about him not being fit to perform on the show after his various antics. For me, I thought his performance was ok. I was most happy that his performance included a lot of dancing. My least favorite musical guests are those that just get up and sing. I watch a dancing show to watch dance. Chris Brown at least satisfied my need to see some dance with his performance.

Also, what did you think about the new Dancing with the Stars Troupe? Of course, if you’re a regular reader of the site, then you already knew there would be a Dancing with the Stars Troupe since Vogue wrote about it a few weeks ago. Peta was the highlight of the Dance Troupe for me.

The six members of the Dancing with the Stars Dance Troupe performed to Sly and the Family Stone’s song “Dance to the Music” Dance to the Music - Dance to the Music choreographed by Jason Gilkison.

As always, be sure to check out all the music from Dancing with the Stars 2011 including the music from last night’s episode.
