DWTS Alan Bersten Interviewed On Debbie Gibson, Becoming A New Pro, And More

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, new pro Alan Bersten talks of his new partner Debbie Gibson and everything she’s been through including Lyme Disease most recently. Because of it, they’ve had to tread carefully in rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars. Below is more, but, be sure to see the link as he talks of what it feels like becoming a new Pro this season.

“Debbie has been through Lyme disease, so she’s on the recovery, health wise, and to me it’s just inspirational that she even signed up for the show,” said Bersten, who was previously a member of the ABC reality competition’s dance troupe and has been promoted to a professional competitor for season 25. “It’s one thing to heal from a disease like Lyme disease, where it’s excruciating on your body, but another thing to do it on live television, so it’s very inspirational that she’s even trying to do this. She’s inspiring me — and hopefully Americans who are going to be watching — to get up and really try to get back to the good place in your life.”

Since being diagnosed four years ago, Gibson has been fighting the bacterial infection, which is primarily transmitted by deer ticks and can cause flu-like symptoms, rashes, joint and muscle pain and limb weakness. The illness can cause major debilitation and is frequently misdiagnosed.

Bersten shared that her illness means the pair have had to tread carefully when it comes to rehearsals for the show, “so she doesn’t get injured [or hurt] her muscles,” he said. “She has a physician with her, who works on her whenever she feels pain. But we can’t rehearse for four hours a day every day, so we have to work smarter instead of harder.”

While challenging, Bersten said he “thinks every challenge comes with a reward and hopefully we’ll have a nice reward on Monday!”

Despite the added hurdles the pair are facing in the competition, Bersten noted how Gibson has remained upbeat, energetic and positive.

“She is literally the most joyful person to be around,” he gushed. “When we’re rehearsing, it just flies by because we’ve had so much fun. She’s been having concerts for these past few days, so we don’t have much time for rehearsals though.”

Dancing With The Stars Season 25 Pre-Season Las Vegas Odds

Sports Bovada has made their new pre-season Dancing With The Stars Odds for Season 25. Note how they’ve put Nick Lachey at the top to win it all. WHA? Us Angels weigh in below. Let us know what you think in comments too after you take a look at this….

Nick Lachey +400 +
Lindsey Stirling +800 +
Debbie Gibson +800 +
Sasha Pieterse +800 +
Frankie Muniz +900 +
Jordan Fisher +900 +
Vanessa Lachey +900 +
Derek Fisher +1000 +
Terrell Owens +1000 +
Victoria Arlen +1000 +
Drew Scott +1200 +
Nikki Bella +1200 +
Barbara Corcoran +2500

Vogue: Wow! They seriously aren’t giving Jordan Fisher any thought at winning like they should be. In my opinion, I do think Nick Lachey will be a force this season, but, I still think Lindsey and Jordan are the top two contenders. I’m also shocked they would put Sasha, Debbie, and Frankie so high. Did they even study up on this season’s celebrities before predicting? Whatever the case, I do think they have Barbara in the right position. I also think Frankie might be one of the first to go. One more thing: I trust Courtney’s Power Rankings way more. Ha! 🙂

Girls, what do you think?

Courtney: Ooh wee – who made these odds? The president of the Nick Lachey fanclub??? I’ve said it more than once, but here it is again: I am not at all convinced that Nick is going to follow in the steps of every other boy bander to do the show and be a decent dancer from the jump. I go back to 98 Degrees being the one boy band that didn’t dance, and the fact that many of us seem to agree that Drew likely won his season due to it being a lot less competitive back then, and having Cheryl as a pro – he would not fare so well on a more recent season. I’m also not convinced that Peta is back to being pre-baby Peta in terms of focus, and if her performance last season with Nick (Viall) was any indicator, her head might not be 100% in the game. I’d put Nick at least 5 or 6 spots down – I’m not even fully convinced he’s gonna make the finals. Looks like the oddsmakers are also seriously underestimating Jordan, who aside from having some dance chops, also has a huge advantage in Lindsay – I’d put him tied at the top with Stirling. I’d drop Debbie down to 6th or 7th, and drop Vanessa, Sasha, & Frankie all closer to the bottom – and I’d bring Drew & Nikki up to 4th or 5th. Victoria probably could come up a little – but I think T.O. & Derek are about right.

Heidi: Well, technically, they have Jordan third most likely to win by wussing out and making a three way tie for second and a three way tie for third. Hell, anybody can come up with those kind of odds. 😀 I don’t think Nick wins this season and I agree with Courtney that he doesn’t make the final. I also don’t think that Barbara is the first person out this season. If not for Alan being her pro, I would agree with Debbie’s placement, simply because she is right in line with the DWTS demo…and she might be the only other person who is, besides Drew. No, I do not believe that either Nick or Vanessa qualify. Still a bit too young and a bit too invisible. Still don’t know (or care) who Sasha is, which is a bad sign for her seeing as how I’m on the young end of the demo myself. Right now, before anyone dances, I would rank Jordan and Lindsay at the top, followed by Drew and Nikki, then one of the Lacheys, then Victoria, then the athletes, then the other Lachey, then Barbara, followed by Frankie, Sasha and Debbie, in no particular order. Very possible still that Debbie could be closer to the top or could trade places with Victoria. But who knows? Lindsay and Jordan could be too unknown to the general audience and the top two could be very different – but I still don’t think it will be Nick. We’ll see.

Frankie Muniz Says He’s Had An Amazing First Week Of Rehearsing For DWTS

Frankie Muniz told US Weekly that his biggest fear of doing Dancing With The Stars is “dancing in public”, but, he’s had an “amazing” week of rehearsing. Read on. I love his positivity….

Muniz has turned to previous competitors for advice. “I’ve had a bunch of friends that have done the show and everyone has said this is so much fun and it looks like a blast,” he told Us. “Honestly, this last week of rehearsals has been amazing. I feel like I’ve learned a lot and I’m progressing.”

The Emmy nominee’s pro partner, Witney Carson, has been giving him some tough love already. “I told her when I met her, ‘Don’t go easy on me. Obviously I’ve never danced. If you tell me to do something, I don’t know what it is,'” he said. “I’d rather it be serious, even though we have so much fun in the rehearsals. We are always laughing and joking around, but when it’s time to dance, we get through it. I’ll think I did good and she’ll be like, ‘Nope, your shoulders droop.’ So we do it again. But I love it, I really do.”

Lindsay Arnold And Jordan Fisher Talk On Dancing With The Stars And Their Rehearsals So Far

Below is Lindsay Arnold and Jordan Fisher talking on their rehearsals for Dancing With The Stars. I’m so excited on these two. Bring it on!

ETA: Billboard interviewed Jordan on Dancing With The Stars. Here’s a take from the link where he talks of being billed as a favorite and more.

“I’ve had a handful of friends that have been on this journey before, and they’ve all said the same thing — that it’s just the most wonderful, fulfilling experience,” Fisher tells Billboard of joining the celebrity dance competition. “[They say that] you make such great friends, and they last for forever, and if [the offer] ever comes to you, you have to say yes.”

That “yes” has been a long time coming. Fisher says the series initially reached out to him about competing several seasons ago, but scheduling conflicts got in the way. “I just hoped that [the series] would come back around, and it finally did,” Fisher adds.

A spot on the show seems like a natural next step for Fisher, who has been a performer since joining his local children’s theater company in Birmingham, Alabama in elementary school. After catching a big break as a guest star on iCarly, Fisher went on to land roles in The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Teen Wolf, before snagging is breakout part as Doody in Grease: Live. Since then, Fisher has taken on the dual roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in Hamilton and popped up on the Moana soundtrack, where he contributed a version of “You’re Welcome” with Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Fisher says he’s fully aware that he’s being billed as a favorite on Dancing With The Stars this season, but maintains that he has just as much to learn as the other competitors, which include Frankie Muniz, Nick and Vanessa Lachey, Derek Fisher and Pretty Little Liars’ Sasha Pieterse.

“I grew up in theater, I grew up dancing a lot, but I have zero ballroom experience. So I think that a lot of people have a skewed representation of what I’m coming in to the competition with,” says Fisher, who will perform alongside professional dancer Lindsay Arnold. “Yes, I am comfortable with my body, and I can dance, but this is nothing like I’ve ever done before… I’m learning basics and starting from the ground, just like everybody else.”

Fisher also admits that he’s already had a fanboy moment or two at rehearsals: he was “really excited” to meet competitor Derek Fisher, as well as Drew Scott of The Property Brothers. “I love HGTV, so he and I clicked pretty quickly,” Fisher adds.
