DWTS Season 10, Week 9 – The Pros Blog

I happened upon Anna Trebunskaya’s video blogs at Radar Online!! Here’s the most recent one —-> Anna Trebunskaya with Evan, Nicole and Derek

Derek’s Blog at Ok! Magazine – this boy has me worried. 25 years old and skipping out on his own birthday party!

The cha cha was really special because Prince cleared his song “Kiss” for us to dance to. Prince said it was for Nicole and Nicole only, which was really cool. He’s an idol of Nicole’s. We had fun with the cha cha. We got a 29, probably losing a point because we used a chair in the beginning and Judge Len Goodman isn’t a fan of props.

As you saw on the show, I had a strained neck before performing in the semifinals. I have things happen to my neck all the time. For some reason, it’s a weak point where I often get injured. It hurt like crazy. I had been saying nothing had happened to me this season, which kind of jinxed it because that’s when I had the neck problem — crack! Oh, shoot, the semifinals, not good. But I got the best help I could — I went to an NHL hockey physical therapist who worked it out, iced it for 20 minutes and it freed up. It’s a miracle. Now I feel great.

Monday night, I also celebrated my 25th birthday. I’ve never been wished happy birthday so much in my entire life, ever. Everybody on the show, the entire audience sang happy birthday to me during a commercial break. And the icing on my cake was our great dances and scores. After the show, I celebrated at a club with friends like Mark Ballas; I blew out some candles and took a few pictures but I went straight home and went to bed by midnight. Nicole didn’t come with me to the club because her boyfriend Lewis Hamilton surprised her by flying in from Monaco so she wanted to spend the time with him. But I laughed so hard when she gave me her gift — a hand towel with the phrase “Sweet Sweat” on it. It’s a joke between us because yes, I do sweat a lot during all our rehearsals. Hey, dancing’s hard work!

And Maks from TV Guide – where he manages to keep most of his commentary about himself and Erin. Very refreshing. 🙂

I thought our Viennese waltz was great. The first step, Erin’s feet buckled. She was so nervous. I’ve never seen her this nervous and at the same time this pumped up. The combination of the two had a real weird reaction. The legs weren’t there, but she held it together and pulled off a great routine. We both laughed afterward. It was funny how discombobulated she got. The paso was so much fun. I was really upset by the package they showed before we danced. They compiled stuff on a really touchy subject with her parents. I was already on the floor for the dance and she left. I was like, “Oh no.” I looked backstage and Erin had tears going down, but she got back up. My mentality went from “Let’s prove something to everybody” to “Don’t worry about the competition. Just dance for us. Just let your emotions out on the dance floor.” And she did it. She tackled that paso like it was the last thing she’ll ever do in her life. There are pictures of the first couple seconds of the routine where we jump off the stage and she has this war-hero look on her face, like a superhero going in for the save. It was amazing and the entire dance was incredible. She was totally overpowering me, and that was OK. I usually let out a sound or whatever to get us going, but she just took off in the middle. It was awesome. I loved it. At the end, I didn’t slip. We landed at different times and I couldn’t save it, and that was it. I just didn’t want that to mar everything else she did. The pattern with the judges seems to be they have nothing constructive to say to her, so they would say something negative, and that’s not enough. I didn’t them to point fingers at her for it because she did nothing wrong, so right away, I said, “It’s not her fault; that’s my fault.” But it doesn’t matter whose fault it is because we’re a couple and we get one score for the two of us. I just didn’t want it put on her. Len didn’t like it, but he gave us a 10 for our Argentine tango last week, so now we just have to get 10s at the same time!

DWTS 10 Dance Comparison Chad & Cheryl

Another celeb bites the dust… right before the finals! So sad… but to commemorate Chad & Cheryl’s dances, we’re going to take a quick trip down memory lane for the two songs that Chad & Cheryl recycled from previous couples.

The first song is Cancion Del Mariachi by Los Lobos and Antonio Banderas Los Lobos & Antonio Banderas - Desperado (The Soundtrack) - Cancion del Mariachi (Morena de Mi Corazon) both couples did this as a Paso Doble…

This was first done by Season 3’s Mario Lopez & Karina Smirnoff on Week 4:

And here is Chad and Cheryl‘s version.

Secondly there is the song If You Don’t Know Me by Now as done by Simply Red Simply Red - Simply Red 25 - The Greatest Hits - If You Don't Know Me By Now (though it was originally recorded by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - If You Don't Know Me By Now) both of the following couples did this as a Waltz.

Originally danced by Season 4’s Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough. (Start at 1:26)

And finally Chad and Cheryl‘s Waltz from Monday night:

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

Vote for the Dancing with the Stars Season 10 Winner

One of my favorite parts of Pure Dancing with the Stars is having polls where people can vote for their favorite dancers. I love it because they are actually very good predictors of who is actually going to win this season of Dancing with the Stars. Take a look at the poll we did at the beginning of the season to predict the Dancing with the Stars season 10 winner. The top 4 in votes were in fact the top 4. How beautiful is that?

Well, it’s that time again. We’re down to the final 3 and it’s your chance to vote for who you think (or who you want, you choose) to win Dancing with the Stars season 10. Should be fun to watch and see who the Pure DWTS readership predicts to be the winner of Dancing with the Stars season 10. Now Vote!!

Congrats to Erin, Evan and Nicole for making the DWTS Season 10 finale!!

SPOILERS!!! DWTS Season 10, Week 9 – The Scorecard

Goodness – that was one jam packed hour of TV. Probably too jam packed for me. 🙂 In case you haven’t already heard, Chad went home tonight as I predicted. Now will people FINALLY believe me when I say that Dial Idol does NOT WORK for DWTS? Probably not. 🙂

The Scorecard

Heidi: Predicted straight up that Chad was leaving us. And I was correct.

Courtney: Also predicted Chad.

Marianya

Couple – Prediction/Actual

Erin/Maks
1st Dance 26/27
2nd Dance 27/29

Evan/Anna
1st Dance 27/29
2nd Dance 28/30

Chad/Cheryl
1st Dance 23/27
2nd Dance 24/25

Nicole/Derek
1st Dance 28/30
2nd Dance 29/29

Marianya’s prediction was that Chad would leave with Erin in either a real or faux bottom 2 (they didn’t indicate either way). Pretty good job!! The only one she was really off base on was Chad and we all know why that is, don’t we. 🙂 Dude was overscored. Same could be said of Erin and Maks, but not to the same degree.

So, next week is the finale. My extremely preliminary view is that Evan will win, with Nicole in 2nd and Erin in 3rd. But hey, I’m just happy I get to see another Hough freestyle. No pressure, Derek. 🙂

Miley Cyrus and Sarah Mclachlan on Dancing with the Stars

Time again for the music from tonight’s episode of Dancing with the Stars which included guest performances by Sarah Mclachlan and Miley Cyrus. DWTS is doing well when you look at the guest performers they’ve had on the show this year. Wow!

Sarah McLachlan sang “Angel” Sarah McLachlan - Closer - The Best of Sarah McLachlan (Deluxe Version) - Angel with Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya performing
Sarah McLachlan sang “Loving You Is Easy” Sarah McLachlan - Loving You Is Easy - Single - Loving You Is Easy with Dmitry Chaplin, Kym Johnson, Lacey Schwimmer, and Damian Whitewood performing.

Miley Cyrus sang “Can’t Be Tamed” Miley Cyrus - Can't Be Tamed - Single - Can't Be Tamed with the Miley Cyrus’ dancers.

Joey Fatone and Melissa Rycroft danced the design a dance to “Rock ‘n Roll All Night” KISS - Greatest Kiss - Rock 'n Roll All Nite by Kiss

UVU danced to “Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby” Dinah Washington - Verve Remixed - Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby? – Dinah Washington Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby? (remix on Amazon) by Verve
Rutgers danced to “Tango in Harlem” Touch & Go - I Find You Very Attractive - Tango In Harlem – Touch and Go

DWTS Season 10, Week 9 – Dancing by the Numbers

Random Musings

I could be wrong, but it looks like Maks used nearly the same choreo for the V. Waltz as when he choreographed one on tour when Derek was dancing with Edyta and Aliona. I’ve only watched Derek do that dance 500 times – it seemed pretty familiar. It’s still very pretty. And why does Maks insist on having so much filler in his dances? That part at the end where they sit down took forever. I hate that split skirt thing – culottes?

Besides all that, Erin’s waltz was a bit sticky and Erin knew it. You could see it on her face. It reminded me of one of Joanna’s dances last season where it seemed like her feet were a bit stuck to the floor. I think she was a tad overscored on that one – only by a point or so. That said…

No one was more overscored than Chad. Overhyped, IMO. And keep trying to sell the “no experience” thing. Yeah, you don’t have any, but your sales pitch was so…obvious. Tacky. And Cheryl’s not exactly been hurting for great partners. At the end of the first round it appeared that the judges wussed out just like I expected.

I love how Len puts it all out there saying that all three of the others (besides Chad) have some dance experience. That said, Cheryl’s comment about that Chad being what the competition was about was curious. Really, Cheryl? If that’s what the competition is about then why do the producers hire people like Nicole, Evan and Erin?? Or, for that matter, DREW LACHEY. 😉

Nicole, please don’t choke Derek while his neck is hurt. Derek, please see someone about your neck – it gets hurt every season at this time ever since you danced with Shannon. And Derek? I love a guy who breaks the cardinal rule of “no touching Nicole’s bunda” right in front of the guy who made the rule. 🙂 While I loved Derek and Nicole’s dances, I think they suffered a bit in comparison to the fantastic dances they did last week – not the quality of dancing, as much as the excitement factor – “Will Derek be able to choreograph a 50’s Paso??!!!” Which, incidentally, is what worries me about a freestyle if they make it through. Derek sets his own bar pretty high.

Erin’s paso was only okay to me, but it could have been the crap song. I agree with Len for a change – didn’t feel like a paso. But…it was a crap song. Much better costume for this dance – hot even – much better than the gawdawful split skirt/culottes or whatever the hell it was during the VW. Nice try capitalizing off a previous score of 6 – threatened by Chad and his growth arc? LOL. And Maks? :::eyeroll:::

Oh Chad. I like you, I really do. But they finally score him appropriately on his second dance.

Evan and Anna? LOVED the Paso, although I didn’t see the “innovation” that Bruno did – he’s a skater, the man spins for a living. Loved the costumes – gorgeous. Loved the first dance too, but right at this moment I can’t remember it – which could be a problem, I suppose, for Evan.

Okay, I have to say, as much as I currently really dislike Maks, if anyone other than Chad goes home I will be pissed off. Erin deserves to be there more than Chad – and if Nicole or Evan go home? This show is dead to me. 🙂 Okay, not really. Derek has a mirror ball trophy – I would not mind if Anna got one.

The Math

After all the dancing was done, and the judges waffled between wussing out and scoring appropriately, here’s how the competition stacked up:

Dancer/Total Score
Nicole/59
Evan/59
Erin/56
Chad/52

Seems like a nice, 7 point difference, right? Um, no. Not really. 🙂 When you add up the total points awarded and divide into the individual dancer’s total score, their percentages are as follows:
Nicole/26.11
Evan/26.11
Erin/24.78
Chad/23.01

I think they’re in the proper order in terms of dancing, but frankly, there isn’t enough of a spread between Chad and Erin. Or Chad and Evan/Nicole, for that matter. Anyway, we’re really at the point of the competition where the dancing has much less impact. People have probably, for the most part, made up their minds and a lot more plays into the voting than simple dancing. All bets are off when we get to the Freestyle though.

What would it take for Chad to stay and Erin to go home?? Well, Chad has to get approximately 13,275 more votes than Erin per 1 million votes cast. Not a whole lot, in the grand scheme of things. There is only 1.33 percent difference between them in judges scores.

What would it take for Evan or Nicole to go home? Chad would have to get about 31k more votes than one of them, and Erin would ALSO have to get 13,275 more votes than that same person. Do you see Erin and Chad getting a combined total of 44k more votes per one million votes cast than either Evan or Nicole?? I don’t really see it, but I don’t think anything can be ruled out.

So, who’s it going to be? Well, Dial Idol says Erin/Maks to go home, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say, AGAIN, that Dial Idol is crap and that Chad’s going to go home. That’s what I hope happens, anyway.

Dancing with the Stars Week 9 Music

We’re down to the final 4 dancers and the beauty of it is that I like them all. That’s always a good thing. Plus, I love this episode, because you get to see pretty much all of the dances in one night. As they say, variety is the spice of life. Although, were there really two Prince songs tonight? Indeed, it seems there were.

As always, here’s a link to the lists of DWTS music from previous episodes.

Erin & Maksim danced a Viennese Waltz to the song “February Song” Josh Groban - Awake (Deluxe Version) - February Song—Josh Groban
Erin & Maksim danced a Paso Doble to the song “U Got the Look” Prince - The Very Best of Prince - U Got the Look—Prince
Nicole & Derek danced a Argentine Tango to the song “El Capitalismo Foráneo” Gotan Project - La Revancha del Tango - El Capitalismo Foráneo – The Gotan Project
Nicole & Derek danced a Cha-Cha-Cha to the song “Kiss” Prince & The Revolution - The Very Best of Prince - Kiss—Prince
Chad & Cheryl danced a Waltz to the song “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” Simply Red - Simply Red 25 - The Greatest Hits - If You Don't Know Me By Now—Simply Red
Chad & Cheryl danced a Samba to the song “Alejandro” Lady GaGa - The Fame Monster (Deluxe Version) - Alejandro—Lady Gaga
Evan & Anna danced a Foxtrot to the song “I’ve Got the World on a String” Frank Sinatra - Classic Sinatra - His Great Performances, 1953-1960 - I've Got the World On a String—Frank Sinatra

DWTS Season 10, Week 9 – Who’s Dancing What?

Ahhh…the semi-finals. When the judges throw away any paddle lower than 8 and, like a buncha chickens, throw it to the voters. 🙂 I kid – I don’t actually think they did that last season. I think they did score Kelly lower than everyone else which was actually appropriate at the time. Will they do that this week?? I guess we’ll see. I have a feeling they will rip Chad and give everyone else the same score, whether they deserve it or not.

Evan/Anna – Paso Doble and Fox Trot – Hmmm, Foxtrot ought to be great, but the Paso? I dunno. That has to be fierce and sharp and he did well on his tango. I imagine it will be fine. Plus they are apparently getting help. I wonder if this is a show gimmick and everyone is getting a guest choreographer? Or if this is just an Anna thing. Not sure how I feel about it. Does it give Evan an advantage to have fresh eyes on his dance?? I honestly don’t know.

Nicole/Derek – Argentine Tango and Cha Cha – Derek apparently had a bit of a breakdown where his brain exploded from too much choreography. 🙂 And after last week, he set his own bar awfully high. Hopefully, he’s pulled it all together. I’m not going to question it too much after the 50’s Paso.

Erin/Maks – Paso Doble and Viennese Waltz – Like Nicole and Derek, they got a great draw in terms of dances. I can see the Waltz being a bit more difficult, but Erin seems to be just about there. Hopefully Maks isn’t their own worst enemy – as much as I complain about him, he and Erin are more deserving of the finals than Chad is. Sorry Cheryl, I do love you. 🙂

Chad/Cheryl – Samba and Viennese Waltz – Oh boy. These dances should be the kiss of death for good old Chad. But he’s got Cheryl and she’s worked miracles before. Plus, he’s a football player with lots of fans – six of whom will be at the show on Monday, all expenses paid. 🙂 Nice, funny, strange guy, Chad. I hope he gets eliminated but I do like him.

DWTS Ratings – Still On Top

Since this was published on May 11, I figure it has to reflect the previous week – Oh look, it says May 3-9.  🙂 The numbers are down slightly with the departure of Kate the Trainwreck, but so are American Idol’s. I think a lot of that has to do with it being Springtime and people are outside having fun – which is where I would have been today if it hadn’t started raining AGAIN. From the Associated Press:
