Maria Menounos’ Malibu Beach Party

And of course her former partner was there, looking all fit and tanned. Oddly, Terrell Owens was there as well. Hmmm….

This pic was tweeted by Derek:

And these pics are from the Mail Online (UK) which had the charming headline: “Bend over! Derek Hough playfully spanks DWTS partner Maria Menounos on the bottom during beach tennis game” – be sure to click the link to see all the pictures and read their take on the day.

Side note: I found this little gem while searching for news –  Per the Pueblo Chieftan:

Q: Is there anyone today who could become a dance team like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers? —Martin L., San Pedro, Calif.

A: “Derek and Julianne Hough,” says Adam Shankman, producer of Step Up Revolution (out July 27) and Julianne’s Rock of Ages director. The siblings first found success on Dancing With the Stars. “Both are movie stars in the making,” Shankman adds.

DWTS 14 End-of-Season Award Winners – Which Dance Was the Best?

Lesson Court learned from putting together these awards: perhaps the “other” option should be eliminated, starting with next season’s end-of-season awards 😛 I got an insane number of write-in responses for the “best dance” and “celeb you most want to see on the all-star season” categories, and let’s just say it was no easy task weeding through all of the write-ins 😯 I also learned that some people are too lazy (or inattentive) to click “read more” and vote in the other categories, and as a result we got almost double the number of votes for the “best dance” category than we did everything else.  I love our readers, but sometimes they drive me a little bit bonkers 😛

Other responses:

Donald & Peta’s freestyle – 23
Melissa, Maks, & Val’s samba trio – 10
Katherine & Mark’s Argentine tango – 8
Maria, Derek, & Henry’s samba trio – 4
Katherine & Mark’s jive – 4
Maria & Derek’s rumba – 3
Roshon & Chelsie’s freestyle – 3
Katherine & Mark’s freestyle – 3
Maria & Derek’s Viennese waltz – 3
Katherine, Mark, & Tristan’s cha-cha trio – 3
Sherri & Val’s foxtrot – 2
Team Paso Doble – 2
Maria & Derek’s Argentine tango – 2
Katherine & Mark’s 2nd paso doble – 2
William & Cheryl’s samba – 2
Gladys & Tristan’s cha-cha – 2
Tristan & Karina’s waltz demo – 1
Tristan & Chelsie’s DaD samba – 1
Melissa & Maks’ paso doble – 1
Katherine & Mark’s samba – 1
Roshon, Chelsie, & Sasha’s paso doble trio – 1

Courtney: Can’t say I’m too surprised at the results – the two that I predicted would do well ended up on top, and the rest got a small share of votes, likely from diehard fans of that particular couple.  I do think the jive trio was the dance of the season – the fact that they took a dance that was hard to do with only 2 people and managed to create something fun, energetic, and proper with 3 people was beyond impressive to me.  And the fact that they DIDN’T get a perfect 30 for it??? APPALLING.  I seriously think people don’t realize how HARD it is to lead 2 women – and Donald’s the only one that took on that challenge in his trio dance, and he KILLED IT.  I didn’t see Roshon or William trying to lead two ladies.  Maria & Derek’s paso was good – for this season.  I just can’t seem to get too excited about it, though, because it just wasn’t up-to-snuff with the paso choreography I’m used to seeing from Derek.  As for all the other responses – I think they all were those couples’ best dances, but probably not the best dance of the season.  Write-ins? It’s the usual smorgesbord of random dances, and I usually find myself shaking my head reading some of them, and saying “Really? You REALLY think that was the best dance?” But alas, different strokes for different folks.  🙂 The only one I’m gonna comment on is Donald & Peta’s freestyle…and I guess Katherine & Mark’s, too.  I always shy away from including those as options in the “best dance of the season” category, because it seems that, unless a couple REALLY picks a dud, it’s a dance that most couples do well with, and the scoring is pretty inflated – it almost seems like too much of a gimme.  That said, I did really enjoy Donald’s freestyle – but I didn’t think the level of difficulty was as high as his jive trio was.  And I thought Katherine showed better endurance in her jive than in ther freestyle.

Vogue: Court, you took the words out of my head this time. My favorite dance of the season (and the dance I thought was the best) was Donald and Peta’s Jive trio. Donald’s fast leg and footwork amazed me at the time. So much so, I screamed to my husband in the other room to come watch (and we had to replay it after the show several times …which I don’t ever remember doing with him as long as I’ve been watching this show). Our mouths literally dropped to the floor especially when Donald jumped over the top of both girls. 😯 A blow away for me as well was their Freestyle. I also loved their Paso Doble and Argentine Tango with the amusement ride twirl. Other stand out dances for me that I thought were the best were Derek and Maria’s Bollywood Trio dance and Paso Doble. Looking back now, I will remember Derek and Maria’s Bollywood Trio dance the most of their dances even though it probably wasn’t her best dance technically, but, it was different, so creative, theatrical, and entertaining. Another dance I have to give props too is also William and Cheryl’s Argentine Tango. I loved all the passion in that dance. William was so into his character and I loved his tails which is when he looked the sexiest in my opinion. 🙂 Anyway, great poll and results!!

Heidi: Yeah, I agree with the top two – by a MILE. Say what you want about the “talent” this season, but Donald and Maria were the two most memorable. As for Derek’s choreography –  I think that Maria was one of his least naturally talented partners EVER (she’s in a club with Joanna and Shannon and wouldn’t have gone as far with ANYONE else), yet his dances with her were just as memorable as anything anyone else did. That’s quite an accomplishment for both of them. He has a way of doing that. He was really challenged with her – she wasn’t naturally talented and she was pretty injured the whole time.  Poor Derek though – he’s set his own bar too high. 🙂  But the Bollywood Samba I also loved, and their rumba just because they were so into it.  As for the write ins?  Sad to say I don’t actually REMEMBER a lot of those dances. Most of Katherine’s dances have left my brain. Oddly, several of Willy’s I remember out of sheer disgust.  Someone wrote in DaD?? All I remember is Chelsie almost getting blown off a table. 🙂

DWTS Season 14 – Dancing by the Numbers Wrap Up

Blah blah All-Star Season blah blah.  🙂  That’s months away yet and I don’t find myself interested in it. Yet. I’m sure that will change. Sooner or later.  I’m still thinking about the season that ended a mere two weeks ago. Because that’s who I am. 🙂

So, in looking at the way the show turned out, I saw a few people discussing what William’s REAL voting block was like. Some had a tendency to say “Oh, Katherine must have been killing it” or “Maybe William didn’t have it all along and he was getting by on margins” – well, being the nerd that I am, I just have to go back and LOOK and see if there are any conclusions to be drawn.

The final scores ended up being very close, with only one point separating Donald and William from Katherine.  In order to win, Donald or William needed 3,740 more votes per million votes cast to get by Katherine. Obviously, Donald got those votes because he ended up beating her. William, on the other hand, didn’t get those votes because he came in third place. Pretty simple, right?

That’s not to say that William WASN’T getting more votes than Katherine, because he could have been – he just couldn’t cover the spread.  I’m inclined to believe that William was pretty solidly in third place (and no better) all along – because of the pimping or in spite of the pimping, take your pick. Why do I think this??  Well, 3,740 is chump change when it comes to votes, but he couldn’t get past Katherine. While Katherine was a beautiful dancers, she was quite over hyped in the latter weeks as well (by the judges) – but she and Mark together were also very likeable.

The previous week, Katherine, William and Donald all had to get past Maria by the following margins:

–          Katherine needed just over 13k per million votes cast to get past Maria, AND;

–          Donald needed 8,700 votes per million votes cast to get past Maria, AND;

–          William needed 4,350 votes per million votes cast to get past Maria

They all did that and Maria went home – so it seems to me that she was fourth place all along. Those aren’t huge numbers.  However, there IS an argument to be made that Katherine was helped A LOT by her “back spasm” and the fact that people still think someone is safe with the high score. Sure, that could have helped Katherine…and maybe it did.  It’s hard to say for sure. But it seems to me that if people got lax on voting for Maria because she had the high score, it would have been William in trouble and not Katherine.  Because at the time it mattered the most, and with no sympathy vote in play, Willy couldn’t get past Katherine.  For that reason, I think the winner, 2nd place and 3rd place were pretty solid. DWTS Season 14 Champ Donald Driver To Thank Fans For Support In Special Wisconsin Broadcast

On Friday there will be a special with Donald Driver and his family broadcasted all over the State of Wisconsin. The Sheboygan Press reports Donald will thank everyone for supporting him on Dancing With The Stars. Below is a take on some of the taping. Be sure to read the link for a two page article about it. You can view a gallery of pictures too. What a class act!! Note how Peta will be a part of the interview as well.

The special is “a real unique way for Donald to be able to thank all the fans and all the supporters statewide,” Lammi said.

During one of the tapings Driver said, “I felt the love from the beginning all the way to the end. The Packer Nation has been behind me for years. They wouldn’t let me down. So I’m glad I was able to bring this back to Wisconsin.”

Driver talked about receiving messages on Twitter from as far away as the United Kingdom and China.

“And I thank Americans,” Driver said. “This wouldn’t have happened without them.”

Hosted by WBAY anchor Cami Rapson and sports director Chris Roth, the special will include show footage, Driver answering questions from Facebook, an interview with Murgatroyd and a segment with Driver’s wife, Betina, and their children, Christian, Christina and Charity.

“We had a lot of fun,” Driver said. “It was a great experience for my wife and kids. We got to meet a lot of people that we probably would have never met in many a year.”

Driver said he’s switching his muscles to football.

“Now I’ve got to get to the physical side,” said the 13-year Packers veteran.

In Los Angeles, Driver said, he put in 12-hour days of exercise, doing workouts in dance and football “kind of hand in hand.”

He’d like to bring home “a couple more Lombardi trophies,” for his home display.

Vote for Your Favorites in the PureDWTS Season 14 End-of-Season Awards!!!

Ok kids, it’s time once again to vote of our biannual “end-of-season” awards…our sort of “wrap up” for season 14, where we see what you guys think were the highs and lows of this season 🙂 If you want to get a feel for how these awards work, you can check out previous seasons’ award recipients here.

First, the rules: I’ve picked what I deem to be the most likely candidates (with the strongest chance of winning) for each category – of course, some of you are going to disagree, and that’s fine.  If you don’t see your pick listed as an option, you can write-in your own nomination in the “other” box.  But here’s my biannual disclaimer about the dreaded “other” box: if I can’t read what you wrote because it’s badly misspelled/grammatically nonsensical/generally incoherent, YOUR VOTE WILL NOT COUNT.  If your response to the question does not make sense (i.e. you simply vote “Donald” for best dance), YOUR VOTE WILL NOT COUNT.  If you simply repeat one of the already listed responses because you can’t be bothered to actually pay attention, YOUR VOTE WILL NOT COUNT.  If you’re just generally being a nudnik and giving harassing responses, YOUR VOTE WILL NOT COUNT.  *shakes head* I still can’t believe that I have to give this spiel twice a year…

…anywho, we’ll give you guys a week to get your votes in, and then we’ll reveal the results in a series of posts starting next week.  Now ready…set…VOTE!!! 😀

DWTS Season 14 Stats Class: Week 10 Scorecard

Whelp… the last scorecard for Season 14… I’m going to skip to the niceties and just go straight to the table of score differentiation:

Am I the only one that is mildly entertained that William has the largest point difference between his predicted scores and actual scores… with Katherine a point beneath that. While in the meantime, Donald is actually a lot closer being just one point off from the past? When you add the scores from Tuesday night’s show into the table Donald has the smallest point difference of the final three…

So let’s look at William’s scoring progression:

Although there are times over the season that William appears to score similar to what was originally predicted or even below, for the most part he has scored a few points over the predicted score. So let’s look at everyone else.

Dancing With The Stars Season 14 Media After The Finals Part 2 (Includes GMA Interview)

So, after a round of interviews with the press, our Season 14 Champs, Donald and Peta joined the Jimmy Kimmel LIVE Show via satellite. Jimmy is a goof ball as always as he tries to put them on the spot. 😯

PopTVDotCom was able to capture some of the cast going to some after parties after the show. They have good things to say on the winners and how much fun they had…

Saving the best for last, below is Donald & Peta, Mark & Katherine, and William and Cheryl on Good Morning America today after catching a red eye to New York City last night. GMA asks them some great questions, Len has a special message for Donald and it’s well deserved, William’s little boy shows some love (a total awwww moment), and the couples dance too….

PureDWTS Season 14 Media After The Finals Part 1

Wow, where do we begin this morning? First of all, I want to stress: DON’T LEAVE US! The show never stops at Pure Dancing With The Stars!! As our Princess Heidi mentioned last night in her Spoiler Post, “a few episodes of Cheesecake, a team retrospective look at Season 14 (warts and all), and a numbers post looking at the entire season” is coming up. Courtney hosts an Awards. Marianya’s got some cool things planned in the mix. We’ll post some new Questionnaires and Polls. Also, we report on any and all news and rumors out there on all the Pros and the upcoming Season all summer. So, stay tuned. You don’t want to miss anything (as several of you did last season when the rumors started flying which, fyi, began EARLY in the off season). 😉 With that said, below are a few interviews to start off the day after such a glorious and one of the best finals in Dancing With The Stars history. Congratulations again to Season 14 Champs Peta and Donald….and same to Katherine & Mark, William and Cheryl, and ALL the couples this season. They are all winners and gave it everything they had.

Ok, let’s get to some interviews this morning from Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight for starters….

E Online interviewed the cast after the show with their thoughts about coming back for the All-star season….

Roshon Fegen told us that he’s totally game for coming back if he was asked and if his schedule permits, along with Gavin DeGraw, who was a little more apprehensive about the idea, but said he’d consider it.

Meanwhile, Gladys Knight, Katherine Jenkins and Donald Driver were all iffy about giving the ballroom competition dancing another go.

Jenkins said that she needs a break (which we totally understand) and Driver has football coming up, so that might get in the way. But he already won the whole shebang, so it wouldn’t exactly be fair to add him into the mix, anyway. Don’t you think?

Although the judges don’t get a say in who will come back for DWTS’ all-star edition, Carrie Ann Inaba told us that she’d like to see Apolo Anton Ohno, Kirstie Alley and “definitely” Gilles Marini (yeah, we wouldn’t mind seeing him shake his bon-bon again, either).

As always, don’t miss the After Buzz TV interviews as well.

More coming up! Stay tuned!! 😉
