PureDWTS: More of Sharna Burgess, Terra Jole, & Amy Purdy Attending the Indy 500

It was basically a DWTS reunion this past weekend here in Indy – Sharna & Terra both attended to support Hinch, and Amy was a special guest of Firestone/Bridgestone. Sharna got to ride in the 500 Festival Parade on Saturday (she & Pierson were right behind Hinch & Becky), and all three ladies walked the red carpet at the actual race on Sunday. Admittedly, it gave my cold, cold heart some serious warm fuzzies seeing Team Stop & Go reunited again, and I love that Terra has also remained close with Hinch after their season 🙂 Check out odd & assorted pix and video below – sorry for the poor quality of the video of parade telecast, all I had was my TV & my phone 😛 Read more..

PureDWTS: Cheryl Burke on The Boris & Nicole Show, Reveals Her Original Season 18 Partner

Hope everyone has been enjoying their summer 🙂 Thought I’d share this little ditty that fell into my lap entirely by accident yesterday, as I was making my morning cup o’ coffee in my office break room while half-listening to the janky tv in there that constantly cuts out and only seems to get random channels…

…Cheryl appeared on The Boris & Nicole Show yesterday, which premiered on Monday and is having a 4-week trial run on FOX.  She chatted about her activewear line, her stint on I Can Do That, her backing out of judging Miss USA, and memories from DWTS.  Full episode is below, and Cheryl’s segment starts around the 22:00 mark.  What I found most interesting, though, was the revelation she dropped about her season 18 partner – turns out Drew Carey was a replacement for someone else:

“Let me tell you guys about Boris over here. He was supposed to be my partner, then he backed out – or chickened out – then, guess who my partner was. And I love him – DREW CAREY! Drew Carey is great, but I think [Boris] and I might have lasted a little longer!”

So yeah, Cheryl’s original season 18 partner was supposed to be Soul Food actor Boris Kodjoe, and Drew only entered the equation after Boris backed out.  I loved Drew & Cheryl together, but I can’t help but be curious about how a Boris & Cheryl partnership might have turned out.  Or who knows – maybe Boris might still be available for a future season! The little bit of hip action he showed in the segment that followed was decent enough. What do you guys think?

Amy Purdy Talks On “The Power Of Intention”, DWTS, Derek Hough, And More – New Exclusive Interview

I believe in the power of intention. This time last year I made the goal that I was going to get this book written by the end of the year. I told every person I know what my intentions were and it just so happens that my book comes out a day before the year ends! Amazing what happens when you set your mind on something. Going into this new year, make sure to make your intentions and goals clear, tell everyone you know, continue to put it into the Universe and see what happens! ~Amy Purdy at her Facebook December 30, 2014

Looking back, “2014” was a such a special year and wasn’t it even more special for what we shared with Amy Purdy and her journey on Dancing With The Stars. I learned that no matter what happens to us, we can fight back and do it with positivity and grace. Heidi and I were able to chat with Amy about it and her new book “On My Own Two Feet” which is released TODAY in book stores everywhere or you can order it at her website at www.amypurdy.com. Below is a take from the new interview which talks on Dancing With The Stars and Derek Hough. You can read more of our exclusive interview with Amy at Pure Derek Hough. THANK YOU, AMY!xx

So, do you talk about your life’s journey and Dancing With The Stars in your new book?

I do, absolutely! I felt it was a perfect way to sum up this long journey that I have been on .. from losing my legs at the age of 19 to where I stand today. The majority of the public know me from DWTS but don’t know the journey it took to get where I am today. This book is my memory of it.

SochiAmyPurdyDerekHough

How did you first find out that you’d be doing Dancing With The Stars? Also, when and how did you feel when you first found out you were paired up with Derek Hough? Was your first meeting with Derek one you won’t forget?

Last fall I was contacted by An executive producer of the show. At that time I had been in the media quite a bit over the years for different projects that I was involved in and with the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics many brands were supporting me and also promoting my story and athletic accomplishments. So, that’s how the producers found out about me. When I first spoke to the producers I thought ” am I crazy?!” ” is this even possible?!” But as nervous as I was I was curious enough to want to find out.

To be honest, I never really watched the show before. I have been so busy over the last few years that I rarely even sit down and watch tv! I remembered the few times flipping through the channels and seeing the show, but I didn’t really know who Derek was. I’m actually happy that I didn’t know the “Derek Hough” that the rest of the world seemed to be in love with, otherwise I may have been a bit more nervous! Although I didn’t know much of him going into the show I realized quickly that he was an absolute creative genius and I couldn’t have been more lucky to have him as my partner.

And to answer your question. Yes, that first moment meeting Derek and knowing that I was going to be on DWTS is a memory I will never forget! I remember thinking ” oh my gosh I can’t believe I’m really doing this!”

Lots more at Pure Derek Hough.

Glamour Talks to New DWTS Executive Producer Rob Wade

I love Jessica, but she’s all about the ship at times. Dancing? Not so much. 🙂 Anyway, she interviews Rob and the other producers at TCA last night and then hit the jackpot when Tom Bergeron showed up to give his thoughts. We can always count on The Berge. 🙂 From Glamour.com:

Glamour: Where are you in terms of casting for the new season?
Joe Sungkur: At the moment, we’re in our early days, but there’s a lot of people we’re talking to…
Ashley Edens-Shaffer: But obviously we can’t say!
Glamour: When will the new cast be announced?
Ashley: That hasn’t been announced.
Glamour: I know, that’s why I’m asking. [Laughs]
Ashley: We’re not allowed to say yet.
[Ed. Note: Because DWTS premieres a week earlier than usual this year, expect a cast announcement sometime in mid-late August.]

Glamour: Which of the cast members from last season most surprised you?

Joe: That’s an obvious one: Amy Purdy.
Ashley: Yes, Amy Purdy.
Rob: Amy Purdy.

Glamour: In the finale last season, Len Goodman hinted that he may not be returning, but then when I saw him backstage, he said, “Oh, no, I’ll be back!” So, will Len be back, as well as Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli?
Rob: Absolutely. We want all of the judges back.
Glamour: But it’s not a done deal at the moment?
Rob: We’re talking at the moment because we’re in the off-season, but I’m very confident that they’ll be back. As well as the host! Oh hi, Tom Bergeron!
Tom Bergeron: What a surprise!

Glamour: You’ve gone on the record saying that you thought Maks and Meryl had more of a brother/sister relationship. Fans do not like to hear that!
Tom: I’ve been ridiculed on social media for it! I’ve seen some great tweets saying, “That’s not like any family reunion I’ve been to!” But I never saw it as a romantic affection. I saw it as a very real affection, and I thought it brought out a side of Maks that I had seen backstage, but he had never allowed himself to be vulnerable on the air before. I thought that was charming, and it couldn’t have ended better. On a year when you watched a woman who had no legs absolutely mesmerize you, and Derek working with her—he’s like our Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire—but when you have that, and then Maks and Meryl… Wow.

So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. Kristyn Burtt Reveals Juicy Tidbits About Dancing With The Stars Season 18

Hey All! Kristyn Burtt revealed some Dancing With The Stars Season 18 scoop today at her Red Carpet Closet site. She posted an instagram talking of how the show almost paired Peta Muragtroyd and Charlie White up last year. Karina was suppose to be with James Maslow. Also, Sharna Burgess was suppose to be paired with Bruce Jenner originally (which makes me wonder about him possibly dancing in season 19?). Be sure you check out fun fun tidbits here. She cracks me up with the way she did the video too. lol Go Kristyn!!

PureDWTS Season 18 End-of-Season Awards – Which Song Choice Was the Worst?

So you’ve seen the results for the best guest judge voting – now onto the results for the crappiest song of the season!!!
worstsongchoice

Write-in votes:

“All of Me” by John Legend (Meryl’s foxtrot) – 2

“Girl” by Pharrell (Amy & Mark’s salsa) – 1

“Can’t Remember to Forget You” by Shakira feat. Rihanna (Nene’s Argentine tango) – 1

“Dare You” by Hardwell (Amy’s freestyle) – 1

“Islands in the Stream” by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers (James’ rumba) – 1

Votes omitted due to failure to follow the format – 2

Courtney: The two songs I thought would garner the most votes, did – and while “Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems” probably didn’t do Charlie any favors…it actually started to grow on me after a second viewing 😛 Maybe it was just the enthusiasm with which he attacked it, but he made the most of a crummy song.  The same cannot be said for “I Luh Ya Papi” – which the two couples dancing to clearly disliked as much as we did.  It drives me nuts when J. Lo does songs like these – they just make her sound downright unintelligent, and make it seem like she’s trying to remind everyone that she’s hip and has chola street cred because she talks like this.  The song is bad, no doubt – but I also don’t think Val or Maks really put their all into choreographing that duel, and thus the end result was even more lackluster.  I have to roll my eyes a bit at “I Wan’na Be Like You”, because I really only added that because I saw so many Meryl fans griping about how “terrible a samba song” it was. Boo hoo, poor Princess Meryl gets saddled with one mediocre individual song the entire season – go ask Charlie how it feels to get screwed over every other week, with “Sail”, “Mo’ Money, Mo Problems”, “Wildest Moments”, etc.  And James has more to gripe about with that gadawful “Gasolina” than Meryl dancing to a song from The Jungle Book.  As for the write-ins? Once again hard for me to say that Meryl got screwed with her foxtrot song, because even though it wasn’t really a foxtrot, it was still one of the top 10 songs in the country at the time and the shippers (and judges) ate it right up.  And anyone wanna make a bet that whoever wrote in “Dare You” was an insecure Meryl fan? 😛

Heidi: I ain’t takin’ that bet, Courtney. Same kinda idiot who haunts Amy’s instagram to scream “Meryl and Maks!!” on every single photo that Amy posts. :::rolls eyes:::  Must protect Princess Meryl at all costs!!  My nickname is an inside joke…wish I could say the same for Meryl’s. But no…the pedestal is still very, very high. Meryl overcame so many obstacles on her path to victory…horrendous song choices…mean judges picking on the stellar choreography…oh, wait. 😀  ANYway, JLo was getting  a lot of crap on the radio this morning for pretending to be “Jennie from the block” while staying in Manhattan. Apparently she gave 25k tickets to people in Brooklyn for her concert and half of them didn’t show up? With songs like “I luh Ya Papi” can anyone really blame them??  Yes, the song was bad (it got my vote)…but the choreographers did not help at ALL. Lord what a whimpy assed dance. The difference between “Mo Money, Mo Problems” and the “I Wan’na Be Like You” is also totally in the choreographer, IMO.  Neither song is a REALLY terrible song choice (but Charlie definitely got the short end of the stick in this instance), but Sharna made the best of it while Maks couldn’t get past it.  I can’t help thinking that if Derek or Mark had been handed Maks’ samba song (or JLo’s song), we would have seen some pretty creative choreography. Ah well.

Vogue: It’s so funny as when I first heard Charlie had “Sail” for a Paso Doble, I didn’t think it would work, but, it actually didn’t bother me. Give it up to Charlie and Sharna making the best of it….again as they did through out the season. Another song that just annoys me to no end anyway is “I Love Ya Pai”. I cringed through out Danica and Meryl’s Samba duel with that song. However, another song I didn’t like was “I Wanna Be Like You” for Meryl’s Samba. Awful song with a lack luster dance too. In the end, I voted for “I Wanna Be Like You” for the worst song.

Maks Chmerkovskiy Interviewed By 103.7 KVIL About Ballroom With A Twist And DWTS

Some of you have been talking about this interview in comments in the Wendy Williams post. Well, if you go to 103.7 KVIL, you can listen to them interviewing Maks Chmerkovskiy this morning since he’s coming to do Ballroom With A Twist soon in Dallas. Maks talks about winning a mirror ball on Dancing With The Stars, how much it meant to him, and how much he’s changed. He mentions Derek and how he’s won so many mirror balls that it must lose that “euphoria of winning”(wha??). He’s also asked whether he’s coming back for the next season of Dancing With The Stars and he says “he doesn’t think so.” Much more at 103.7 KVIL including an interruption from Maks’ publicist (you’ll have to listen in to see why 😯 ) and more dancing talk.

If interested in seeing Ballroom With A Twist in Dallas or a city near you this summer, see this link.
