Derek Hough Chats On DWTS, Utah, And His Move Live On Tour

Copied from Pure Derek Hough where you can find lots more goodies including rehearsal news, more interviews, screen caps from the week and lots more…

Good4Utah has a fun new interview posted with Derek Hough. I can’t embed it, so, be sure to see it at the link. Derek tells them about his tour coming to Utah and what he plans to do with his dad while he’s there. Amy Purdy is interviewed too and she chimes in. They talk on Dancing With The Stars as well. Below is a take. Be sure to see the link for more.

Viewers this season have watched Amy redefine “impossible” with Derek’s groundbreaking choreography, dance moves that Utahns will get to see up close and personal during he and sister Julianne’s new summer dance tour.

“Julianne and I are taking the tour to Utah and we are dreading it because of the altitude…” said Hough.

Altitude aside Derek says, even after 18 seasons in Los Angeles, on Dancing with the Stars, it’s Utah where he feels most at home .

“I really hope that coming from Utah, I represent it. I don’t know if I am or not, but that we are doing them proud,” said Hough.

The summer dance tours are heating up! Derek and Julianne Hough’s MOVE Live On Tour is about to begin. Also, “Ballroom With A Twist” is gearing up for it’s summer run as well. Scott Stander, the producer of “Ballroom With A Twist“, tells us the show “is going great guns!” He also tells us they have a “very exciting schedule this year and some shows are already SOLD OUT”! He also informs us of all the pro dancers from Dancing With The Stars for who will be performing. They include Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Val Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani, Karina Smirnoff, Anna Trebunskaya, Sharna Burgess, and Cheryl Burke! He also tells us Maks and Val will be hosting some shows as well as performing. Here is more from Scott…

BALLROOM WITH A TWIST is going great guns!… We have a Very Exciting Schedule this year and some shows are already SOLD OUT!

Summer 2014 will be our Starriest Tour- and we think the fans will be psyched to see their favorite Celebrity dancers up close and personal. Maks & Val will perform together! Hosting and performing on stage in one show! This dream has been a year in the making so I’m really looking forward to seeing that chemistry hit the stage. And the icing on the cake is bringing this show and the Big Stars to Hawaii for the first time. I don’t think Waikiki will ever be the same.

Below is a list of the shows and the pros who will be dancing….

BALLROOM WITH A TWIST – SUMMER 2014 SCHEDULE:

Dancing with the Stars on Good Morning America – FAN BLOG

DWTS fan Haley went to GMA after the finale and very graciously provided a blog and some photos so we could all share in the experience. Thanks Haley!! If you want to see additional pictures of Derek and Amy from Haley’s day, hit up PureDerekHough.com

I arrived to the GMA studio at about 1:15 AM. I thought a lot of people might be there, but I was the first one by a long shot. There were a lot of crew members setting up the dance floor area and the float that the cast arrived on, so I had people to talk to. They were all really nice and complimented me on the sign I made and my dedication to attending the taping. They all seem like really happy people so it was nice to hang out with them and talk to them for a few hours. The majority of the people showed up at about 5:30am, but I already took my place against the barricade. I found out from the crew that no fans were going to be let inside the studio, so I figured that the next best place to be was the outside dance floor area. It was really uneventful until about 7:45 when the cameras were turning on outside and more people showed up just before the cast arrived on the float. We saw Derek shooting his instagram video and everyone was screaming and going crazy. Lindsay, Jenna, Artem and Sasha came outside very quickly and rehearsed a bit and took pictures with anyone who asked. They all looked like really close friends and Lindsay has the cutest laugh I’ve ever heard. We got to watch the cast interviews on a monitor outside, and the troupe watched along with us. Lindsay and Jenna were ‘awww’ing a lot at Charlie’s message to Meryl. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. Wendy Williams Interviews Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

And guess what – Meryl straight up says they’re not dating. :::cue hearts breaking all over shipperland::: Maks even goes so far as to say “they needed that” in reference, I think, to the faux kissing and romance. And I’m not criticizing – that is an element of SOME of the dances. I think it is a shame that it’s now all anyone focuses on. The woman can DANCE, yet all we hear about is the showmance – and that’s largely due to their choices, in addition to the shippers. But the faux kiss as a choreographic crutch got a bit out of hand – the shippers don’t get ALL the blame.

ETA: Vogue here. You can read a new interview with Meryl at TV Guide as well. I love the question they asked her about working with Maks and Derek…

How do you think working with Maks might change how you approach routines with Charlie?
Davis: Just from a basics standpoint, learning the different styles of dance I did can only help. I’ve taken ballet, but I’ve never danced on the floor for the sake of dancing on the floor. I’ll take a lot back on the ice with me.

You talked a lot about coming out of your shell. Will that also change your partnership with Charlie?
Davis: I was very shy when I was younger, but I haven’t been shy for many years now. But this additional experience will definitely help.

What was the major difference you found between working with Maks vs. Derek ?
Davis: They are two very different people with different personalities, but both are insanely brilliant. It’s funny, I worked with the two of them at the same time for the team dance and I had been telling Maks that seeing the two of them interact and suggest choreography to one another was such a cool experience to see.

More at TV Guide.

ETA2: TV Guide now has a new interview up with Maks. Here is a take where he talks on their relationship and more.

You guys have gotten a lot of mileage out of the romance speculation. How much of that was played up for show? Set the record straight.
Chmerkovskiy: Our relationship is very real. She’s incredible. It’s going to go beyond Dancing with the Stars for sure. … As far as what everybody is asking romantically, these things will never be answered by me. You’re going to see things in tabloids and pictures, and you have people gossiping and making up their own stories, but I will never speak about my personal life.

The show really milked it too.
Chmerkovskiy: I think the show never had a couple like Meryl and me. … We had these stories on the floor that gave a completely new depth to our show. Between what we did and what Derek was able to do with Amy, this season has been absolutely remarkable. We had unbelievable dancers. … Nobody, I think, came close to Meryl and me, just by sheer passion. That passion, that togetherness and that look in each other’s eyes — yes, some of it was necessary for the dances to be what they needed to be from a performance standpoint. Most of it was coming from a very real spot. We connected right away and it was extremely creative.

Almost every season without fail, there’s a huge Maks temper tantrum midway. You got frustrated this season, but it never went over-the-top.
Chmerkovskiy: One thing that was amazing this season was I felt a lot of support. This was the first time I was like, “So that’s what it feels like when people are rooting for you.” I didn’t feel any different as far as treatment, like, “You get any production piece you want.” But I felt that people genuinely wanted to see me succeed, and that gave me a lot of confidence. There were tense moments, but that tension wasn’t produced in the form of, “He’s the bad guy” again. It was more, “This stuff is getting to him because it’s so close and so real.”

Afterbuzz TV And Emma Slater Review The Finals Of Dancing With The Stars Season 18

Afterbuzz TV is back and with their last Dancing With The Stars show of the season. This time
Emma Slater joins the panel to review the finals. I pretty much agreed with everything they said except when Anna said most of Derek and Amy’s routines were simple and uncomplicated this season. WHA? Anyway, great show again!! I have enjoyed these shows so much this season. Thanks Kritsyn and the gang for a job well done. Let us know what you think in comments and if you agree with their new reviews.
