We had such a successful chat before the final Monday night performances of Dancing with the Stars season 21, that we decided we’d do it again before the DWTS season 21 finale as well.
The great part is that up to 4 people can join the video chat at a time and we can rotate people through so that everyone gets a chance to participate. For those that are shy on camera, we welcome you to get over that shyness and join us anyway. If that still doesn’t work, you can always watch and comment in the chat area.
Long story short, we’ll be doing the DWTS finale video chat Tuesday, November 23 at 6:30 ET (3:30 PT). You can view it on this page or at this link. I look forward to seeing and chatting live with many of you before the finale!
P.S. We’ll probably go up until when the show starts on the east coast, but if some people want to stay on during the show we could do that too. Only problem for me is that I’m on the west coast. However, if the east coast keeps it going, I could pick it back up when the west coast starts. Nothing like a 6 hour video chat. We’ll play it by ear.
Many of you might have seen that we held a Pre DWTS Season 21 video chat where we talked about the upcoming season and made predictions for this season of Dancing with the Stars. Since tonight is the finals of Dancing with the Stars season 21, I thought it would be fun to hop on camera again and talk about tonight’s final performances.
You can watch and join the live video stream below or at this link. I hope that many of you will join us on and off camera.
So I was going through old dances and remembered how on Season 10 there was a “Movie Night” where every dance was a theme song to a movie. But there have been other dances that were done over the seasons that were themed to a movie in the past… So stemming from “Movie Night” and some of the tackiest dances to come with it, I decided to come up with a few dances from the past that were just as tacky, if not funny 😉
EDIT: So what is my criteria for a “tacky” dance theme? Three simple factors naturally (music, costumes, nuances), but they all have to tie into one thing: the television or movie program that they are tied to. Each factor will be rated on a scale of one (not that tacky) to three (way too tacky). You’ll see what I mean as I go through each dance.
Season 4: Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson Dance: Tango TV/Movie Program: Star Wars Tackiness Quotient Music: Star Wars Theme Song… enough said. Score: 3 Costuming: So we have Kym dressed up as a Princess Leia wannabee, and Joey Fatone starting off as a Jedi Knight, complete with a lightsaber. Granted Joey shedded the cloak and had a suit underneath rather than the Jedi cloths that are so prevalent in the movies, so it wasn’t totally tacky, but still. Score: 2.5 Nuances: First they started the package with having R2D2 in rehearsal, and then the dance started with a lightsaber sequence? Yeeeaaaah, how about no? I’ll give them props in having Joey wearing a suit rather than a full Jedi getup, so it’s not totally tacky, but darn it’s high up there. Score: 2 Conclusion: Total Score: 7.5 out of a possible 9.
Yes, I think this dance was tacky, but hey, Joey likes Star Wars so I can’t fault him for that. In fact Joey liked this dance so much that he wanted to reprise this dance for the finale… Que sera sera.
Season 3: Joey Lawrence & Edyta Sliwinska Dance: Tango TV/Movie Program: Addams Family Tackiness Quotient Music: Addams Family Theme Song… again enough said. Score: 3 Costuming: Edyta as Morticia and Joey Lawrence as a taller, skinnier, and mustache-less Gomez? uh… Well it doesn’t necessarily invoke the movie as much as one would think so… Score: 2 Nuances: The dance steps are pretty cut and dry, and it didn’t really invoke the Addams Family mood, let alone the “tango” dancing that Morticia and Gomez are known for.. so Score: 1 Conclusion: Total Score: 6 out of 9.
So this dance happened because waaaay back when, Season 3 happened to coincide with Halloween, as thus every song danced for “Halloween Night” had some sort of spooky theme to it. And what is a Halloween Night without an Addams Family dance?
Season 3: Monique Coleman & Louis van Amstel Dance: Cha Cha TV/Movie Program: Ghostbusters Tackiness Quotient: Music: The Ghostbusters? Eh, not as bad… but still pretty bad. Score: 2 Costuming: So they both started with the Ghostbusters getup before stripping? But what the frack is Monique wearing? Forget what she was wearing, look at her make-up and hair! Ugh! Just for that alone.. Score: 3 Nuances: For me, there wasn’t really anything that invoked the Ghostbusters as much as I would have thought. So they lucked out. Score: 1 Conclusion: Final Score: 6 out of 9
Same as above, what’s a Halloween Night without some ghosts? Who do you wanna call when there’s a ghost in the neighborhood? Ghostbusters! But in all seriousness, other than the song (and even the song wasn’t all that tacky) the dance to me seemed a bit cut and dry… so not really as tacky as other dances because it could have been a lot worse.
Season 7: Kim Kardashian & Mark Ballas Dance: Foxtrot TV/Movie Program: Pink Panther Tackiness Quotient: Music: Pink Panther Theme Song… It’s an instrumental, and more often than not instrumental piece don’t induce tackiness to me, but the Pink Panther (I believe) is a bit more widely known and as thus… Score: 2 Costuming: What’s the Pink Panther without a lot of PINK… ugh. Way too much pink for my liking… Score: 3 Nuances: Overall it’s a decent routine, for what it was. Lots of finger snapping and what not. There are times that I kind of cringed as thus this gets… Score: 2 Conclusion: Final Score 7 out of 9
Nobody pulls off pink better than… Mark! With some well placed nuances and what nots it isn’t a bad routine… it’s just ok for what it was.
And we’re back for another season 🙂 This has got to be my favorite cast yet! ABC has finally gotten some more prominent stars…if you can call them that…instead of people we have never even heard of until you google them when the list is announced! So let’s get started…
THE GOOD Erin Andrews & Maks: Foxtrot I so enjoy watching these two dance together, they have such chemistry! You can tell they really enjoy each other and learning to dance as a couple! As much as the package showed Erin as a tomboy (i.e. her burping), I thought she was beautiful and elegant and I applaud Maks for having two solos in there for Erin!
THE BAD Kate Gosselin & Tony: Jive I really have nothing nice to say about Kate. She finds anyway possible to extend her 15 minutes of fame and I feel terrible for Tony because he is such a fantastic dancer and teacher and now he has to put up with Kate.
THE INCREDIBLY HOT Nicole Scherzinger & Derek: Jive HOLY SMOKES ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!! I just fell in love with Derek all over again! He is an amazing choreographer and having Nicole not only highlights her…but highlights his talents. I smell an Emmy nomination from him this season!
Is anyone else pissed that Joanna was sent home last night? I think she should have been in the finals no questions asked. She was sexy, elegant, and amazing to watch all season and to come this close just kills me. And with Derek’s hot choreography I’m pretty sure their freestyle would’ve been HOT!
I was slightly disappointed that Aaron was sent home last night. I think out of all the contestants he had the most up and down experience going from amazing in the first 2 weeks and then getting overly cocky and hard to watch and then back to brilliant and passionate dancing. I had a feeling Aaron was going to be sent home over Kelly but let’s take a look at his best dances and hottest outfits 🙂
BEST DANCES Week 1: Cha-Cha
Little Aaron Carter can dance! This was an amazing premier dance for Aaron and Karina! I loved that you could tell he was working so hard to be a good dancer but also an amazing partner for Karina. Every time he touched her I could tell he was into it!
Week 2: Viennese Waltz
I loved the Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy story line here!
Week 5: Argentine Tango
He feel of the wagon during weeks 3 and 4 but came back with his Robert Patterson vibe in the Argentine Tango! This dance was so sexy and confident on his end and he had amazing partnering for Karina!
Week 6: Waltz
This was Aaron’s most mature dance of the season! Absolutely loved it 🙂
Week 7: Jive
BEST DANCE!!!! This dance was so him…fast, energetic, and so much fun! His foot work was off the charts phenomenal!
I loved his Argentine Tango costume…Very Patterson inspired and he looked like man 🙂
I thought his Kermit the Frog outfit was adorable! He really doesn’t have a color that doesn’t look amazing on him! But that could be the spray tan!
Normally I would not like an outfit like this one but something about it is very suiting for him. And how could you not love Karina in this dress 🙂
Not the picture I was looking for…but who doesn’t love a guy in all white 🙂
Dang, I’m putting my favorite thing first. Our pros dancing to Taylor Swift’s Romeo and Juliet song (yeah, I know that’s not the real name) – dang. DANG!! That was one of the more romantic dances I’ve seen on this show. I love Taylor and I’ve loved this song (ear worm for real) since I first heard it – but she was having an off night and I was wondering if she caught Derek’s swine flu. I can’t rave enough for Cheryl, Tony, Maks, Edyta, Jonathan and Anna. Particularly Jonathan and Anna – they look absolutely gorgeous together. It’s funny – put Jonathan out there by himself and he looks the total dork…but put Anna next to him and they are simply sublime. Lordy. This pro dance made me a bit teary eyed – I am such a sap. But the costumes, the choreography – gads. Perfect. LOVED IT!!!!
I just love these little segments – yes, I am easily entertained sometimes. 🙂 Call me crazy, but I am rooting for the sequined speedo. 🙂 But then, I’ve had a glass of wine and my filter is gone. Seriously, the words “Derek” and “half naked” are words I can get behind. For that matter, I wish Mark and Melissa weren’t eliminated, because I can so see Mark in high heels. 😉 And I fear for Louis – Kelly has an evil streak that I love.
Regular readers know that I’m a hypocrite when it comes to paparazzi – I have a philosophical problem with what they do and how they make their living, yet occasionally I will use something they come up with. That said, nobody seems to mind Henry the Pap – he’s too cute and he’s NICE. So, if the celebs don’t mind, I’ll go with it.
Len MAKES this video – hilarious. OMG – cocktails or age? 😉 Little bit of everyone: Chelsie talking with gum in her mouth, Louis and Melissa being cute, Anna D. talking about her hair, Derek holding on to Joanna and his sister Marabeth and helping them across the street, Julianne, Kelly O, Louis, Jonathan and Anna T at the end.
ETA: If anyone is interested in seeing a few pictures from the party, they’re at PureDerekHough.
Oh, there was some good stuff in the results show last night, in addition to the MJ Tribute. I really liked the “behind the scenes of a Monday” bit – kinda cool. Sure, it was all set up, but I still enjoyed seeing it.
I’m normally a big Nora Jones fan, and I liked her performances – but I can’t say it’s the best I’ve seen her:
LOVED Jonathan and Anna T’s dance to this song. Gorgeous.
Here’s a video of all the pre-tribute discussion from the pros and the Jackson family that I don’t think I posted before:
