Mix97.7 interviewed Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess today. They ask her some interesting questions about teaching, costuming, and how the show picks their celebrity. They also talk on Tavis Smiley and how devastated he was to be eliminated so soon. More at Mix97.7. Note how Sharna helped to choreograph Kevin Hart’s dance for the opening number tonight as well as a few other dances. Great interview!
Today, Sadie Robertson’s parents, Korie Howard Robertson and Willie Robertson, were interviewed by Access Hollywood and they are so proud of their daughter. LOL to how Willie kept an eye on Mark at first! Lots more below…
ETA: Sadie has written a new blog at USA Today. Be sure to read it at this link and see some fun new pictures too of her and Mark Ballas.
Janel Parrish has written a new blog for People. She writes of last week’s dance and tough love in rehearsals with Val. She also talks on her new dance. Here is more…
We’re doing jazz this week for Movie Night and we’re performing to West Side Story. I’m having so much fun picking out costumes. We have an amazing costume designer. They create everything from scratch and it’s just been a dream. I’m the biggest girly-girl. Any time I see something with sparkles on it, I’m so excited.
I’m really looking forward to this week’s performance. Jazz is really the only dance I have a tiny bit of experience in and I remember really loving it. It’s such a fun dance. And I love Broadway; it’s where I got my start. So this week is going to be a blast for me!

Gene Kelly’s Wife Patricia Visits Derek Hough And Bethany Mota In Rehearsals For Dancing With The Stars
Karina Smirnoff has written a new blog at People. She writes about how she and Randy will not be taking any chances with her and Randy Couture’s Paso Doble tonight on Dancing With Stars. Though check out how she punched him in rehearsals. lol…
This week, we’re doing paso doble. It’s Movie Night, and we’re dancing to Rocky’s “Eye of the Tiger,” which I think is perfect for Randy. Rocky is the ultimate underdog. And with Randy and his career in MMA, he was the ultimate underdog in every fight. He’s killing this paso!
The other day, I put in a combination of punches. We were trying to coordinate ducking and blocking, and I guess Randy forgot when to block, so I went for it and totally punched him! I was like, “Oh my gosh, what did I just do?” But he laughed and said, “Trust me, I’ve been hit harder.”
This week, we’re really taking no chances, no breaks. We want our scores to go up. Our scores went down last week. Not by a lot, but they did go down. We don’t want that to happen again.
More at People.
Also, and just a reminder: remember when Randy helped Leeza Gibbons with her Paso in season 4? See this previous posting if you’d like to watch the video again. Too fun and here’s to Randy and Karina tonight!!
Lea Thompson Previews Her “Back To The Future” Dance For Dancing With The Stars – New Interviews, Videos
Lea Thompson talked with TV Guide about Dancing With The Stars. They talk of what it was like to be in jeopardy in Week 1 to leading the pack in Week 2. Lea also previews tonight’s new dance for “movie” night…
Can you talk a little more about your Back to the Future dance?
Thompson: [Artem] wants to be Marty McFly. And I’m like, ‘I will not be dancing the cha cha with my son. It’s not happening. You have to be George McFly.’ … So, that’s been a big bone of contention. He said, ‘But you were in love with [your] son.’ And I said, ‘But my son wasn’t in love with me, so … ‘ (Laughs). So I’ve gotten him to be George McFly. And I wanted the song “Power of Love” from the movie, so that’s what we’re going to do.
Kevin Hart is a guest judge on Monday, so hopefully he’s a Back to the Future fan.
Thompson: Does he know anything about dance? I think that might be bad for us, because Len really appreciates the rule-following that Artem does. We’ll have nobody who cares about the rules! I’m going to be like, ‘Artem, just do whatever you want.’

Also, just a TV heads up: Lea and Artem are guests on the Queen Latifah Show today. Here are a couple of previews to their interview…
ETA: I’m having trouble embedding it, but, if you go to this link, you an view a rehearsal with Artem and Lea.
ETA2: Below is the Queen Latifah interview in full thanks to @idolxfactor1…
It’s show day, Everyone. Here’s a fun little deal for starters with the new Badie Show! These two are so adorable!
ETA: Michael talked with WGN Radio about which was more difficult: racing or dancing. You can listen here for what he said.
Check out Tristan MacManus. He and his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partner, Jenny Gibney blew the audience away this weekend in the UK! TPTB should have never let Tristan get away. Thanks to Vin for sending.
Since Heidi’s “Who’s Dancing What?” post is getting a tad long, I thought I had better move this over to its own post and open the floor a bit more for discussion So as of yesterday, we received intel that Janel & Val had switched songs – they were no longer dancing to “I Feel Pretty”, and had been seen rehearsing to “America” instead. At the time, we didn’t have an explanation as to why; but now, with some additional intel, I feel as though a bit of a rant is in order…
…but first, an explanation of what I like to call West Side Storygate. As of Monday, we had heard that SOMEONE was dancing a Viennese waltz to “I Feel Pretty”; based on hints Derek gave during the show, we assumed it was Bethany & Derek. However, Val actually confirmed in a post-show interview that it was he & Janel, and that he had requested the dance style be changed from Viennese waltz to jazz “in order to do the movie justice”. Apparently he actually choreographed a pretty cool routine that was reminiscent of the big dance at the gym in the movie – the troupe was involved, they were going to have a big dance set, the works. However, apparently later in the week (I guess Tuesday or Wednesday), the studio that owns the rights to the movie allegedly said “Whoa, hey, time out there, chief – you can use ‘I Feel Pretty’, but the dance can’t look anything like the movie!” So basically, kind of the same thing that happened to Derek in season 15, when he & Shawn were tasked with doing a Knightrider-themed bhangra…but were not legally allowed to use any elements from Knightrider. A tough row to hoe for any pro, methinks. So Val basically had to redo the entire thing – they switched songs, changed the set, omitted the troupe, and redid most of the choreography. Janel picks up choreography quickly and should PROBABLY be ok in time for the show, but Val was (understandably) upset. Which brings me to my rant…
…WHY WEREN’T ALL THE RIGHTS TO THE SONGS AND MOVIES BEING USED CLEARED PRIOR TO THIS WEEK???!!! Seems like several couples were still waiting to see what their music and dance styles would be as of Monday evening – that’s gotta be a tad stressful for the pros, who then have to scramble to adapt to themes, music, and dance styles thrown at them at the last minute. Seems like they haven’t had this problem so much in previous season that have done a “movie week” theme – maybe we just didn’t hear about them, but I’m wondering if perhaps Rob & Co. have tried to be a bit too accommodating to the celebs this season, and let them suggest the movies they want to dance to….and that’s resulted in some time crunches & movie/music clearance issues. Remember, the added complication of “movie week” clearances is that you have to clear both the song AND the theme rights to the movie – and the latter category is where we encounter most of the issues. So anywho – what are you guys’ thoughts as viewers? Would you mind seeing a dance using a song from a certain movie that really wasn’t at all reminiscent of that particular movie? Is there any benefit to letting the celebs pick what movies they want? Do we really need movie week at all? Let’s hear it
And because I’m not a total Crabby McCrabberpants…here’s a pic of Witney holding Alfonso’s adorable son. Because ADORABLE BABIES, dammit.
