Dancing with the Stars Season 18, Week 7 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Here’s the thing…when we get into the weeks where there are TWO dances, the margins get tighter, instead of bigger. More points are handed out. But the big question is – do the points handed out to the eliminated dancer count in the overall judges score? Because THIS WEEK, it could make all the difference in the world. People are worried about Charlie and James, but they don’t have it that hard in terms of what they have to get in votes to make up the difference in the judges scores – honestly, no one appears to be uber safe this week, I don’t think.

Let’s get right to it, shall we? See the table below for the judges scores and the percentage of the total for each celebrity, with NeNe’s scores included.

Las Vegas Odds For DWTS Season 18 Week 8, Do You Agree or Disagree With Them?

Sorry for the lack of Las Vegas Odds posts this season, but, Sports Bovada and other sources haven’t been posting and/or updating them like they use to. However, Sports Bovada updated their odds for Dancing With The Stars this week. Take a look below and let us know if you think this is about right?

Meryl Davis 1/2
Amy Purdy 4/1
Charlie White 5/1
James Maslow 10/1
Danica McKellar 15/1
Candace Cameron Bure 50/1

My thoughts: The way the judges are pimping Meryl (which I think is totally wrong), the odds makers probably have it correct. I do think they have the top three correct, but, I think it should be Charlie and Amy at the top with Meryl in third (if we were to judge who has had the most clean and challenging dances, etc). For fourth, I think it’s going to be between James and Danica. These next few dances will be telling for them both as anything could happen. Even though she improved last week, one placement I totally agree with is how they have placed Candace.

Let’s see what Heidi and Court think….

Courtney: You know the pimping is bad when they have Meryl at 1/2 odds – which means that for every $2 that you bet that she will win, you’ll only get $1 back if she actually wins.  If that seems like a bad investment, it is – but because the oddsmakers think she’s such a sure thing, it’s the only way they can profit from bets made on her. 😛 That’s pretty bad – especially when it seems like the judges are doing everything in their power to keep Charlie from getting within spitting distance of Meryl on the scoreboard.  Although if the outrage I saw this week after he got hosed (yet again) is actually translating to votes, now might be a good time to put some money on Charlie…because the tides could turn.  I don’t think they can get away with severely hosing him in the semifinals or finals…and the gap between he & Meryl could close quite a bit in those weeks as more couples go home.  As for the rest of the board – I’m kind of torn on Candace & Danica; Danica is the better dancer, but I get the feeling she’s not as popular with the fans…whereas Candace, the weaker dancer, seems to be connecting more.  I think James is about right sitting the middle of everything.

Heidi: I don’t recall that pimping has ever worked in the past, to any real degree. Didn’t work with William Levy, didn’t work with Chelsea Kane, didn’t work with Zendaya (although she was pimped to a lesser extent than her predecessors), didn’t work with Gilles (part deux)…I can’t remember if Melissa (part deux) or Brandy were truly pimped. I think we thought Brandy was, at the time, but then the real pimping began in later seasons. Melissa I do think was pretty well pimped the second time around, but she also had a set of other factors working in her favor, not the least of which was that she was the only non-winner in the final three of the All Star season.  So that’s 0.5 out of six??  Not good odds on Meryl.  However, if the judges don’t let up, they could have success number two on their hands. I like Meryl – I just don’t think she’s that much better than Charlie and I find him and Sharna infinitely MORE likeable.  Will he win out in the end? I would like to see that, if only to see TPTB’s plans blow up in their faces. 🙂  Anyway, barring further injury to Amy, I tend to think the top three are correct, I’m just not sure it’s in that particular order. I also am not sure that James will last as long as fourth place. Yeah, he’s got fans, but Danica and Candace’s fans are right in the DWTS wheelhouse. I guess we’ll see. 🙂

DWTS Season 18, Week 8: Who’s Dancing What…and When?? (SPOILERS)

Well, let’s hope that this week is finally Charlie’s week. Quickstep should be great for him. If he does another great dance only to get hosed by the judges in their quest to get Meryl and Maks the MBT – well, I might have to write a really long, scathing rant post that blisters the ass of any producer that comes close to this site. (waves) Seriously, this show is pissing me off big time. Have they learned nothing from their other pimpees, who include the likes of Chelsea Kane and William Levy – that reminds me, I need to finish my post entitled “Winners Never Pimp and Pimpers Never Win.” For you reading-impaired shippers of the quivering loins with your heads in the clouds – this has nothing to do with Meryl herself, or her ability. It has to do with the single minded moronic quest of the judges and producers to make sure that Meryl and Maks win. If she’s all that….LET IT HAPPEN.

Anyway, I hope Amy does well on the AT, but her injuries worry me. James is a big question mark for me on a dance like V.Waltz. Candace should do well as she could be in hold a lot of the time. Danica and Val?? Who the hell knows? Meryl and Maks? Tums are your friend. 😉

ETA #1: So Danica’s song is the only one I immediately recognized from this week’s list of individual dances…the rest are more obscure.  And rumor has it that Grandma Chmerkovskiy flew in to observe one of Maks & Val’s dual rehearsal sessions…that ought to make for an interesting rehearsal package 😛 -Court-

ETA #2: I’m back from out of town and ready to rumble. There are going to be ground rules for Monday night – I’m going to post them here and reiterate them on Monday night so none of you forget. First, DO NOT constantly hit refresh. Read, comment if you want, then walk away for a few minutes. There’s no possible way for you to read anything new if everyone keeps clicking refresh. Two – DO NOT use the comment section like it’s twitter. If people start posting one-liners, I’m going to start deleting. If I have to delete you several times in a row, I’m putting you on moderation. You need context. Think of it this way – if someone comes along two hours later and reads your comment, will they be able to tell what you’re talking about? If the answer is no, you’re doing it wrong. The last couple Monday nights have been out of control – ya’ll need to start practicing some simple netiquette. Look it up. 😀 ~Heidi

ETA #3: Okay, so the “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” IS the Lorde version, as someone earlier suggested. Other tidbits we’ve heard? James is doing pretty well with a standard Viennese waltz, with at least one cool move where James is holding Peta’s leg over her head. Amy is having trouble with the AT. 🙁 Whether it’s due to her lack of feet, her injury or just the lack of rehearsal, it’s hard to say. Also, as I alluded to in the comments, all the pros are pretty pissed that Abby Lee Miller is judging them on Monday night.

ETA #4: Anybody else think that Candace hit the song/dance combo jackpot?? 🙂 With Mark as her choreographer, this should be a really cute dance.

ETA #5: Some last minute intel on the various dances – all sound interesting:
* Apparently Meryl & Maks’ rumba isn’t all that unorthodox – though parts of it look like a couple fighting. So maybe think less “protesting the situation in Ukraine” and more “wife working up the courage to leave an abusive husband”? There’s also a part where she rolls around on the floor.

* Amy is using a stool for part of her Argentine tango – the question is: will the judges like it, or dock her for it? (Heidi says “docked” since it’s about time the judges start angling for their favorite finalists – tonight will be telling)

* Source says his/her least favorite dance this week is Danica’s tango – wayyy too slow and weird.

* Apparently, Candace’s foxtrot has a comedic storyline to it – might be starting off sitting on a bench.

* Charlie’s quickstep is “cute and fun” and actually has a section of tango in the middle – will get him hosed or praised? He seems to be struggling a bit with the technique and hold – we’ll see if he gets it fixed before showtime. (Again, Heidi votes “hosed” – just cuz that’s what they do to Charlie, whether he deserves it or not.)

* Looks like Peta & James may have omitted the leg in the air trick from their Viennese waltz – it was a potential “lift risk”.

* All of the duels are looking good – our source particularly praised Amy & James’ jive duel.

Amy and Derek – Argentine Tango (song: “Heart Upon My Sleeve” by Avicii )

James and Peta – Viennese Waltz (song: “6-2” by Marie Miller )

Charlie and Sharna – Quickstep (song: “My Heart Goes Boom” by Miss Li )
1-800-868-3412

Candace and Mark – Foxtrot (song: “That’s It, I Quit, I’m Movin’ On” by Sam Cooke )
1-800-868-3407

Danica and Val – Tango (song: “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Lorde )
1-800-868-3403

Meryl and Maks – Rumba (song: “Read All About It, Part III” by Emeli Sandé )
1-800-868-3406

Round two, as you all know by now, is three sets of “Duos” dancing together. (:::sigh:::) The Duos are:

James/Amy – dancing Jive (song: “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That” by Robert Randolph & the Family Band )

Charlie/Candace – dancing contemporary (song: “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith )

Meryl/Danica – dancing samba (song: “I Luh Yah Papi” by J. Lo feat. French Montana )

Mark Ballas To Perform “Get My Name” On Dancing With The Stars And More Show Details

BroadwayWorld.com has released the show details for Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 8. It outlines the dances and how Abby Miller will be judging. Also note how Mark Ballas will be performing his new single “Get My Name”.

Reality television personality and professional choreographer Abby Lee Miller of “Dance Moms” joins as a guest judge alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba on “Dancing with the Stars” MONDAY, MAY 5 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. No stranger to the world of competitive dancing, Abby will bring a unique perspective and surely won’t hold back from articulating while seated at the judge’s table. The anticipated quarter finals begin as Pro Mark Ballas makes his solo recording artist debut singing his new single “Get My Name,” along with his band and the house band “Ray Chew Live.” Then, the remaining couples will perform an individual dance and the first ever “Celebrity Dance Duel.”

In the Duel Round, two couples will be paired up to perform a style of dance that they’ve both previously performed. All four members of the mini team will dance together to the same song but during the middle of the performance, the Pros will leave the floor, leaving the two celebrities to dance together. At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.

Carrie Ann Inaba Blogs On Dancing With The Stars 18 Week 7

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba reviews this week’s dances in her new blog at Parade. I agree with her on everything except I wish she’d switch what she wrote on Meryl and Charlie. Charlie is the one who is producing the most content and improving (imo). This last dance was his best yet. On a positive note, I love what she wrote about Amy!

Meryl Davis gave us yet another full-throttle performance. She has impressed and surprised me over and over again. What she does so well is push beyond what we expect of her, which is no easy task. She has earned herself some pretty high expectations because she has delivered some great performances. The first two steps of her salsa were a bit timid and then suddenly, she unleashed the beast and let her primal passion lead her in the movements. It blew me away! It’s so great to see someone go there. There’s a lot of trust in that partnership and Maks Chmerkovskiy and Meryl are the team to beat right now.

Charlie White , who is dying to get a 10, needs to take a moment and realize that a 10 is earned on this show. I think he has the potential to get a perfect score for sure! His artistry on the dance floor, the way he knows how to maneuver his partner , and use his weight and create warm soft shapes makes him a contender. However, he’s in the tough spot of being the performer who started the competition at the top. He started out great, so where does he go? What he needs to realize is that this show is about growth and great dancing. He’s great, but we haven’t seen much improvement anywhere. He’s got to bring out something we haven’t seen yet, show us that he’s also growing as a performer. I think he’s a bit too smooth and easygoing in his dances. I could watch him all day — so don’t take that the wrong way — he’s a beautiful dancer, but he’s a bit too lyrical. I’d like to see sharper edges in some of his movements. I want to see him be able to stop a movement once in a while instead of having all the movements continue as one movement. I want to see more light and shade, not all a beautiful shade of gray. I also hope his knee is going to be okay. When an athlete feels a strange tingle in the knee, it’s a scary thing. Let’s hope it was just a small moment of pain, we need our Charlie to be in his best shape. He’s got the Stars on Ice show as well as DWTS right now…so take care, Charlie!

More at Parade. Let us know what you think. Also, Carrie Ann has a new boyfriend. You can read about him at Life & Style.

Afterbuzz TV And Cheslie Hightower Review DWTS Season 18 Week 7

Kristyn Burtt and the gang are back with another fun episode of Afterbuzz TV!! This time Chelsie Hightower joins them to break down the dances. Let us know if you or disagree with them. I especially loved what they said about judges and all of their inconsistencies. For example, Suri brings up how Len gave James and Charlie both 8’s and how something is wrong with that. SO TRUE!! And what about the “supersized” dances for what we are seeing now? They don’t like them either. Also, be sure to listen to what they say about Abby Miller judging next week at the end. They are outraged on her being picked as a guest judge like so many of us. Another super show!!

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 8 – What We Know About the “Duo Dance” So Far

Admittedly, this came out of left field for me – I was almost certain they were going to be doing the trio dances this coming week.  So imagine my surprise when, last night, Tom announced this elusive “duo dance” that will pair up two couples, have them dance on the floor at the same time (with their partners), and then just the celebs dance with each other (without their partners).  And in true DWTS style – it seemed like most of the pros had no idea what it all was about, and they probably still don’t.  Thanks, Conrad. 🙂 Gotta love these little parting gifts he’s leaving…

So what do we here at Pure know so far? Well we know for sure that these are the duos, per Deep Throat: Read more..

PureDWTS Season 18, Week 7 – Power Rankings

Sooooo…anyone else have an unpleasant sense of deja vu from season 14 after last night’s show? Cause I sure am…it’s only the names that have changed: William Levy has been replaced with Meryl, and Donald Driver has been replaced with Charlie. William/Meryl can do no wrong in the eyes of the judges, is bathed in praise, and gets free passes for doing things that other couples get called out on in a heartbeat; while poor Donald/Charlie busts his ass and delivers not only some stellar dances, but manages to keep a smile on his face – yet week after week, he’s nitpicked to death by the judges and looks (along with his partner) beyond hurt as it’s happening. I hated the whole situation two years ago, and I hate it again now – the blatant pimping and obvious hosing of some couples vs. others is making me check out of this season just a little bit more with each passing week. There’s only one glimmer of hope on the horizon: William, despite all the pimping on his season, was only able to eke out 3rd place…while Donald, the weekly redheaded stepchild in the eyes of the judges, ended up winning the whole thing. Just some food for thought… Read more..
