I kinda have to laugh. Why? Well, besides the large number of people (and websites) who thought that the picture Derek posted of a baby doing a push up was actually him…there were just so many people freaking out over Meryl’s score this week. Sheer panic. Lots of hysteria and a few requests for me to do my numbers post early. Why is this funny? Well, because some of these same people who are now a tad panicked are the same ones who said, when I was complaining about Meryl being propped up, “hey, it’s just a silly dance show.” LOL. So much for the “silly dance show.” I’ll throw it back to you – It’s just a silly dance show. It’s not world peace. And before you get all hoity toity and claim I’m only saying that because Amy is at the top of the leader board, I ask you to please point to where I ever expected her to win, prayed for her to win…hell, point to any post in the last two years or more where I got my knickers in a twist because Derek’s partner might not win. I’m like Derek these days – it’s not about winning any more. And Amy has already won. She won the first time she danced on prosthetics in front of millions of people. That is a massive victory, along with a massive inspiration. Read more..
Here’s the thing…when we get into the weeks where there are TWO dances, the margins get tighter, instead of bigger. More points are handed out. But the big question is – do the points handed out to the eliminated dancer count in the overall judges score? Because THIS WEEK, it could make all the difference in the world. People are worried about Charlie and James, but they don’t have it that hard in terms of what they have to get in votes to make up the difference in the judges scores – honestly, no one appears to be uber safe this week, I don’t think.
Let’s get right to it, shall we? See the table below for the judges scores and the percentage of the total for each celebrity, with NeNe’s scores included.
Well, let’s hope that this week is finally Charlie’s week. Quickstep should be great for him. If he does another great dance only to get hosed by the judges in their quest to get Meryl and Maks the MBT – well, I might have to write a really long, scathing rant post that blisters the ass of any producer that comes close to this site. (waves) Seriously, this show is pissing me off big time. Have they learned nothing from their other pimpees, who include the likes of Chelsea Kane and William Levy – that reminds me, I need to finish my post entitled “Winners Never Pimp and Pimpers Never Win.” For you reading-impaired shippers of the quivering loins with your heads in the clouds – this has nothing to do with Meryl herself, or her ability. It has to do with the single minded moronic quest of the judges and producers to make sure that Meryl and Maks win. If she’s all that….LET IT HAPPEN.
Anyway, I hope Amy does well on the AT, but her injuries worry me. James is a big question mark for me on a dance like V.Waltz. Candace should do well as she could be in hold a lot of the time. Danica and Val?? Who the hell knows? Meryl and Maks? Tums are your friend. 😉
ETA #1: So Danica’s song is the only one I immediately recognized from this week’s list of individual dances…the rest are more obscure. And rumor has it that Grandma Chmerkovskiy flew in to observe one of Maks & Val’s dual rehearsal sessions…that ought to make for an interesting rehearsal package 😛 -Court-
ETA #2: I’m back from out of town and ready to rumble. There are going to be ground rules for Monday night – I’m going to post them here and reiterate them on Monday night so none of you forget. First, DO NOT constantly hit refresh. Read, comment if you want, then walk away for a few minutes. There’s no possible way for you to read anything new if everyone keeps clicking refresh. Two – DO NOT use the comment section like it’s twitter. If people start posting one-liners, I’m going to start deleting. If I have to delete you several times in a row, I’m putting you on moderation. You need context. Think of it this way – if someone comes along two hours later and reads your comment, will they be able to tell what you’re talking about? If the answer is no, you’re doing it wrong. The last couple Monday nights have been out of control – ya’ll need to start practicing some simple netiquette. Look it up. 😀 ~Heidi
ETA #3: Okay, so the “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” IS the Lorde version, as someone earlier suggested. Other tidbits we’ve heard? James is doing pretty well with a standard Viennese waltz, with at least one cool move where James is holding Peta’s leg over her head. Amy is having trouble with the AT. Whether it’s due to her lack of feet, her injury or just the lack of rehearsal, it’s hard to say. Also, as I alluded to in the comments, all the pros are pretty pissed that Abby Lee Miller is judging them on Monday night.
ETA #4: Anybody else think that Candace hit the song/dance combo jackpot?? With Mark as her choreographer, this should be a really cute dance.
ETA #5: Some last minute intel on the various dances – all sound interesting:
* Apparently Meryl & Maks’ rumba isn’t all that unorthodox – though parts of it look like a couple fighting. So maybe think less “protesting the situation in Ukraine” and more “wife working up the courage to leave an abusive husband”? There’s also a part where she rolls around on the floor.
* Amy is using a stool for part of her Argentine tango – the question is: will the judges like it, or dock her for it? (Heidi says “docked” since it’s about time the judges start angling for their favorite finalists – tonight will be telling)
* Source says his/her least favorite dance this week is Danica’s tango – wayyy too slow and weird.
* Apparently, Candace’s foxtrot has a comedic storyline to it – might be starting off sitting on a bench.
* Charlie’s quickstep is “cute and fun” and actually has a section of tango in the middle – will get him hosed or praised? He seems to be struggling a bit with the technique and hold – we’ll see if he gets it fixed before showtime. (Again, Heidi votes “hosed” – just cuz that’s what they do to Charlie, whether he deserves it or not.)
* Looks like Peta & James may have omitted the leg in the air trick from their Viennese waltz – it was a potential “lift risk”.
* All of the duels are looking good – our source particularly praised Amy & James’ jive duel.
Amy and Derek – Argentine Tango (song: “Heart Upon My Sleeve” by Avicii
James and Peta – Viennese Waltz (song: “6-2” by Marie Miller
Charlie and Sharna – Quickstep (song: “My Heart Goes Boom” by Miss Li
Candace and Mark – Foxtrot (song: “That’s It, I Quit, I’m Movin’ On” by Sam Cooke
Danica and Val – Tango (song: “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Lorde
Meryl and Maks – Rumba (song: “Read All About It, Part III” by Emeli Sandé
Round two, as you all know by now, is three sets of “Duos” dancing together. (:::sigh:::) The Duos are:
James/Amy – dancing Jive (song: “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That” by Robert Randolph & the Family Band)
Charlie/Candace – dancing contemporary (song: “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith)
Meryl/Danica – dancing samba (song: “I Luh Yah Papi” by J. Lo feat. French Montana)
Well, it’s Candace’s time in the hot seat, with Drew leaving us last week. Lucky for her, her road isn’t nearly as rough as Drew’s was. Who’s going to be eliminated it a bit more up in the air.
Meryl, of course, is still pretty insulated at the top of the leader board – she did a great dance and she shouldn’t have any problems this week. Even though there are risks being pretty consistently at the top too. Four out of six weeks, Meryl has been at the top of the leaderboard – sometimes it has been earned and other times – not so much. Thing is, she’s been up there all by herself most of the time when I feel like others have danced just as well (Charlie), with harder choreography. So, the question is – how much complacency is in her fanbase?? I’m sure Maks’ fans are anything but complacent at this point – but the pros fanbase won’t get you the win. Obviously.
There are five weeks of dancing left – I doubt they will start underscoring Meryl, but the question is, will they start giving Charlie the scores he deserves? If they are going to do that, it’s time for them to start the growth arc. If they are determined for Meryl to win…they won’t start scoring Charlie appropriately. I’m quite curious to see what happens. I called Charlie for the win before the season even started – but my prediction kinda hinges on him getting scored appropriately. He sure hasn’t been until now. If Meryl were dancing with Derek, I’m certain she would probably win. I don’t think it’s a sure thing with Maks. I still think Charlie has a real shot.
Another big question I have – why is NeNe getting so much love from the judges?? For all the whining and complaining I see about Amy and her scores, girlfriend can seriously dance AND Derek is giving her actual dances that resemble (strongly) the style they’re supposed to be. Some people still want her marked down for some reason (I have theories, fear being a large component). But the same cannot be said for NeNe. NeNe is putting on good performances (most of the time) but her dances have only been in the stated style about half the time – yet no one has said a word, she’s getting 9s and people bitch about Amy. It’s rather mind boggling. I hate to break it to you folks who are scared of Amy and Derek – when NeNe is getting high scores, it’s MORE likely that your favorite will go home in a shocking elimination. There is not a huge spread between the dancers when EVERYONE is doing pretty well, score wise. Some of you focus on Amy – you should be worried as much or MORE about NeNe. There is a method to their madness, after all. A reason why she’s getting good scores. You better hope they wise up fast. If she’s hitting some metric of popularity which results in overscoring so she sticks around – she’s the one you should be scared of. See Leah Remini staying longer than Christina and Liz. Same thing – over scoring of Leah put her in easy striking distance of Liz. Combine the likely-very-popular Candace at the bottom with the overscored NeNe above her…well, it could get interesting. A comment before we get to this weeks dances… if you claim you hate this site, and then copy what we write verbatim (or copy Courtney’s tweets verbatim), post it to your skating forum or Maks tumblr and take credit for the info, you are a sad, poor thing. Not only are you a hypocrite who spends way more time here than your little friends realize (thanks for the hits!!), but hopefully now your little friends know you got it all from here. 😀 Ya stole it with nary a mention of those of us who actually told you what to say. Tisk tisk. Do you think we don’t see?? Honeys, every time you visit the site, we know where you came from. 😉 We appreciate your visits…we’ll put you on blast next time, we appreciate you so much.
Now, on to some other stuff. NeNe is apparently playing a Madam trying to prevent the randy Tony from getting to her girls. Why do I sense multiple, scantily clad females in this dance? And why have all the dances suddenly become “super sized”?? Rarely do I like it. Val’s cups and saucers were cute and Derek’s wedding. That’s it.
Charlie has a song, apparently, that is not even remotely Latin. Why does this guy keep getting screwed?? I don’t get it. Can we have some normal music please? I don’t like Amy’s song either, so there you go. Read more..
Well, this week is fairly simple. Drew has a tough row to hoe this week, with the biggest margins since week 2. And really, I don’t have too many complaints with the scores overall, as they rather reflect my feelings after my initial viewing of the show. What I AM waiting for, is the hammer to fall on Maks and Meryl for the “messing about” that Maks puts in about 75% of his dances. It’s even more glaringly obvious after Val and Meryl’s Argentine Tango. Anyone else who had a ringer of that caliber (particularly Derek) would have gotten hosed by now for all the crap. But really, Derek has often gotten hosed for crap in dances that other couples get away with in the very same show. I’m looking at you, Tony, Val AND Maks. Usually, this occurs when Derek has a really good partner. Now, the shoe is on the other foot and we get nothing but praise for the golden couple. Oddly, Charlie is just as big a ringer and he is getting the ringer treatment. Seriously, 3 points deducted for dropping that cane? If ever there was a time that the judges should have gotten together and said “hey, killer routine, very difficult – a dropped cane is only worth one point.” But no, they couldn’t manage that. Are they REALLY trying to manipulate the audience into thinking that Meryl should win?? Because you know, some of the audience resemble sheep – they want to vote for the perceived winner. This is a dangerous game, though, because the audience also likes an underdog – especially if one is as good a dancer with harder choreo than the golden girl. It will be interesting to see how things continue to progress on this front. Read more..
So, let me get this straight. Charlie, whose partner is likely to be quite good at Jazz and Contemporary, gets both dances, while Meryl (whose partner is likely to NOT be good at either Jazz or Contemporary) gets neither, yet gets to do both Argentine Tango and regular Tango?? Um, sure, she nearly got a perfect score on AT, so let’s give her Tango. Sure. And what’s with all the Cha Cha’s in Week 6?? Really not liking what the theme weeks are doing to the dances.
Anyway, below are the dances. If there is a song listed as “Music Guess” that means that either the celeb or pro gave what appears to be a strong hint.
ETA: Below is my guess on the order. Just a guess – no insider info.
Danica and Val – Cha Cha Cha (Music Guess: “I wanna dance with somebody” by Whitney Houston )
Meryl and Maks – Tango (Music Guess: “Feel So Close” by Calvin Harris )

Okay, after being out of town for a few days, I finally got to watch the whole show. My thoughts…in a bullet list.
- Geez, all that brouhaha over Julianne’s comments and that was it?? She qualified the crap out of it and said she loves Maks but…. Really, I was expecting harsher, after all the discussion here.
- Candace was TOTALLY hosed. And I mean totally. That was a very good dance and Tony did a good job with it. WTF is going on here?? Is she being sacrificed on the Meryl alter?
- Candace’s dance was about a thousand times better than Danica’s, thanks to Maks. Is he EVER going to stop putting all that non-dancing in his choreo? About time he was called on it.
- LOVED Drew’s dance – Witney got it just right. I’m liking this girl a lot.
Disney week? Okay. I’m not as jazzed as everyone else, but I do like Prince Charming. But just who is going to BE Prince Charming – that is the question. Actually, it might be obvious from the list below….
And Courtney got her Wish!!! 😀
Note – these are in no particular order. Yet.
ETA: Quoting Courtney, “We got some hardcore Disney fiends up in this mofo!”
Charlie and Sharna – Jazz (“Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins)
Danica and Val – Quickstep (“Be Our Guest” from Beauty & the Beast)
James and Peta – Contemporary (“Let it Go” by Idina Menzel, from Frozen )

So, as I had predicted but had hoped to be wrong, the producers did what ever they wanted in terms of the pairings. They will find some way to explain it away, but there is video evidence that you could use twitter to vote (at the 4:14 mark) – so don’t buy that excuse. These are the pairings THEY wanted to see, so they made it happen. Also don’t buy the scheduling excuse – there is one change they could have made to not upset one of their “stars” but chose not to do it. But you know what? I’m pretty sure that it will turn out to be very interesting. And the potentially upset “star” in question ain’t so upset. Let me just say this:
Tony IS already upset. 😀
Karma is a bitch and this may not be the trainwreck they hoped for. Anyway, Courtney and I have lots of other little details and we’re hoping to find out more. For now, here are your new pairings (from what we understand, anyway) and a couple dances.
ETA: So, Danica and Maks are NOT getting along. Apparently, the old Maks (“Just do it”) is back.
ETA2: Apparently, Nene is surprised. In a good way. And Courtney tells me that there are no duplicate dances this week. Every couple has a different dance.
The number of question marks is directly proportional to how sure we are that someone has a given dance. Or is that directly DISproportional?? I’m tired. Anyway, the more question marks it has, the less sure we are that that’s the dance they have. Three ??? means we arrived at them by process of elimination. Also adding – Tony is apparently not mad at Derek but at the producers for the dance given to Derek and Nene.
ETA4: The rumba for Charlie appears to be confirmed.
ETA5: Apparently Meryl & Val ain’t getting along great, either – he seems a bit starstruck by her, but he also seems to have zero patience with her. Their routine is really, really fast and poor Meryl can’t seem to do anything right for him.
Charlie and Peta are getting along great and had their dance choreographed by Thursday so they’ve had lots of time to polish it.
According to our source, these are the dances. The couples that are doing well are Derek/Nene, Tony/Candace, Charlie/Peta and Drew/Witney. The couples that are struggling are Meryl/Val, Danica/Maks, Cody/Sharna and Amy/Mark. James/Cheryl are apparently neither good nor bad. Whether we see any of this will be very interesting. A bunch of people who change the voting rules when it’s time to count the votes isn’t above changing the narrative in the editing room, are they?? I expect we’ll see the opposite of what we’ve heard when it comes to Meryl and Charlie – and possibly Nene, mainly because they paired NeNe and Derek to see problems. Question is – did those couples doing well give them ANYTHING to use?? And did those couples doing poorly give them anything to make it look positive? I guess we find out tomorrow.
Charlie and Peta – Rumba
Danica and Maks – Jive (Music: “Love Me Right!” by The Swag Geeks & Brook Penning )
James and Cheryl – Tango (Music: “Dark Horse” by Katy Perry )
Drew and Witney – Cha Cha
Amy and Mark – Salsa
Candace and Tony – Quickstep (Music: “Ballroom Blitz” by Sweet )
Meryl and Val – Argentine Tango (Music: “Too Close” by Alex Clare
Cody and Sharna – Foxtrot
NeNe And Derek – Jazz (Music: “Grown Woman” By Beyonce
