SPOILERS!!! DWTS Season 13, Week 7 – The Results!

Well, another week, another bummer elimination.  :::sigh:::

David and Kym left the ballroom tonight and I’m afraid that was the unkindest cut.  Neither Hope nor Nancy deserves to make the semi-final based on ability, compared to David, and now at least one of them is going to make it there. But, that’s the name of the game and, like both Courtney and I worried, it’s not just about getting votes, but it’s what happens when you get relatively few votes. David had faded into the woodwork recently and that’s a more dangerous place than being last.

As a reminder, Nancy needed a little more than 10k votes more than David per million votes cast – not a huge number, all things considered. Since she was in the real bottom two, and was the low scorer, that meant that she and Tristan couldn’t clear any of the margins except David’s.

P.S. I had the hardest time picking between David and Nancy – and damn if those two weren’t the OFFICIAL bottom 2 (note to Macmanicas – that was a REAL bottom two, reign in the cocky).  But I picked wrong (again) and Courtney picked right – and we’re both depressed about it. :-)

P.P.S. – Would someone please give Derek Hough a frakin’ Emmy already? Holy crap.

Are The Producers Of Dancing With The Stars Angry At Maksim Chmerkovskiy?

The big question on many of our minds: Are the producers of the show mad at Maks after what happened last week with his complaint on the judges on LIVE TV? As you saw for yourselves, Maks was clearly upset and looked angry in the rehearsals last night to the point Maks looked “abusive” to some people when he man handled Hope, but, is that really the case or do the producers just want to make it look that way? Both TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly are diving into this area today. More below and special thanks to Lori for helping out with this post!!! Let’s get Heidi’s take on this as well.

Below are Teddy Volynet’s thoughts after the show from TV Guide….

But the rehearsal footage struck a decidedly different note. “I was there for that whole rehearsal,” explained troop dancer Teddy Volynets, who is a student of Chmerkovskiy’s and stepped in to rehearse with Solo after Chmerkovskiy injured his toe. “There was a moment where it seemed a little rough, and it was due to the fact that when you come into a team situation, every single piece is just as important as the others. And if one piece isn’t working, you’re letting down the rest of the team. So that’s just more pressure on the pros and more pressure on the celebs. Some people are bound to crack a little bit and that’s bound to be recorded.”

Volynets said he got Solo to laugh and relax because he was there for such a short time. “I got to taste Maks’ life for three days. He’s been doing it since September. I was there having fun, but if I was in Maks’ shoes, I’d be exactly like him.”

For her part, Solo seems to accept that harsh comments and tough teaching go with the territory. “It’s the seventh week, we’re getting okay scores,” she said. “You wouldn’t want to see me if he wasn’t tough on me. I’d be like…I don’t know what I’d be like out there on the dance floor.”

Below are Tristan’s thoughts from Entertainment Weekly which I’m in total agreement with. What do you think?

During Monday’s episode, however, Chmerkovskiy had very little to say when he faced the judges and didn’t respond to any questions from reporters afterwards.

In the meantime, his decision to get physical with Solo during the rehearsal didn’t jibe well with at least one other pro. “That’s stuff you shouldn’t be doing,” said Nancy Grace’s partner Tristan McManus. “No matter whether you’ve been dancing for however long or just new to dancing, that shouldn’t be happening.”

That said, McManus said the packages seldom tell the full story. “Those packages are like a minute and a half…amongst the rest of us it’s not a continuous thing. They pulled it together tonight and they remember what it’s about. Hope herself pulled it together with Maks and they did great.”

Heidi’s Note: Teddy’s loyal, I’ll give him that much. And he may have a point that, for his part, he is only a short timer so he doesn’t have a lot invested, he can laugh and have fun with Hope. That explains HIS behavior…but not so much Maks. Listen, the producers can edit, edit, edit until the cows come home but what they have NO power to do is make Maks behave in a certain way towards Hope. That was not manufactured. It was awful to watch and I’d rather never see anything like it again. Ever. Were there parts where Maks wasn’t being an ass? Sure, I would bet there were. But this is one of those instances where “you reap what you sow” – Maks had his say last week. He took shots at the judges, he took shots at Derek, tried to deny all of it, then probably saw all of it on tape and was hopefully ashamed of it. Or not. Then, this week, the Producers had their say. Were they taking a shot at Maks for revenge? Who cares? Point is, if you can dish it out, you have to take it. I doubt they were angry at him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they reminded him who’s the boss with one simple edit. I would imagine that’s why we didn’t hear much from him after the show – not because they told him to shut up, but because he was pissed as hell. He got played. And everyone came out looking better than he did. That’s the funny thing about reality TV. You brag about boosting ratings, but you can expect to be the ratings booster again when you don’t want to be. That’s likely the real reason for that edit last night. :-)

DWTS Season 13, Week 7 Interviews After The Dance Part 2 (Videos)

In part 2 of our interview posts, we have Carson Kressley with his thoughts on the show last night as well as some interviews with Access Hollywood and ET.

First up, Carson!! He says Ricki is the “real pro of the season” nailing it week after week. What’s more, she prevailed even through a painful injury last night. He says J.R. and Karina’s dance was a “little lackluster”. He thinks the contestants are feeling the wear and tear and getting fatigued. Carson also spoke of Rob and how he’s the “dark horse”. Rob just keeps getting better and better. Maks gave it all on the dance floor last night, but, was more subdued and on his best behavior off the dance floor. Carson thinks Maks and Hope will be ok tonight. On Nancy, he predicts her fan base will keep her on the show for another week. More below. He’s fun as always.

Below are the Access Hollywood interviews;

Rob and Cheryl are happy with their comeback last night and their improvement. Getting into character was fun. They cheer for Team Paso as Derek and Ricki pop in. Way cute!!

Ricki and Derek talk of the fun they are having and dancing through the pain. Derek loved dressing up for Halloween. It feels great to be in first, but, they don’t think they are the ones to beat when asked on it. They are humble as always. Be sure to listen to the end. Derek talks of the rehearsals for the Team Paso. It helped to have a female pro helping Ricki and Hope. It was good to have the break from their partners to get other advise. Derek says Hope excelled in a “team” environment.

DWTS Season 13, Week 7 Interviews After The Dance Part 1 (Videos)

Let’s get right to the interviews after Monday night’s dances with our favorite interviewer, George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet!! As always, George asks the couples some different questions. This week he dives into the “safety” factor.

First up, below is Ron and Cheryl! George tries to get Rob to admit he’s ready to be in the finals, but, Rob and Cheryl won’t admit to it. They hope they make it, but, they don’t want to jinx anything. On the safety factor, Cheryl totally trusts Rob. He hasn’t dropped her yet. They also talk of how happy they are with more fans and people rooting for them every week. At the end of the interview, George asks Rob on his sister’s divorce. Rob says it’s a difficult time for the family, but, they will support her.

Next up is Ricki and Derek! They are so proud of their dance and the Team Paso. On the safety factor, Ricki trusts Derek “implicitly” with her body and her life. Derek says he’ll always have her. On her injury, Ricki doesn’t plan to let it or anything else get in her way. They are so happy with their first place finish. Their faces say it all!

Maks and Hope look at George’s notes and scores. Hope is happy with them. Just like last night, Maks is unusually quiet through the interview. When George questions him on it, Maks said he has said enough in the last few weeks. He then remarks when he looks back on his life, he will look back happy on this time and that he did it his way. A very subdued Maks. I’m not sure what to think, but, this can’t be helping their situation?

DWTS Season 13, Week 7 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, as I’ve said before – nights with two dances are dangerous. It’s much easier for a shocking elimination to happen, mainly because the higher the number of judges points handed out, the smaller the margin between dancers.  It’s simple math, really.  A 3 point spread that was a 2 percentage points spread, becomes a 1 percentage point spread.  Danger, danger, Will Robinson!!

Other than the inherent dangers, it was a reasonably good night.  My admiration for Derek Hough grew by leaps and bounds, fully justified by his behavior.  Some fans wondered why TPTB would let Maks randomly trash Derek….turns out they didn’t. :-) You best watch yourself, they will get back at you eventually. Of course, Maks made it SO easy.

JR took a tumble and I have to say I agreed with their scoring, sadly. Really, I think the only problem scores of the night were Rob’s – he seemed a bit underscored – And Team Tango.  A disaster Len?? Hardly. It was rather lackluster and lacking some pizzazz, but I think “disaster” is a good bit of hyperbole.

Let’s look at the numbers.

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Ricki 53 18.09
2. Rob 51 17.41
2. Hope 50 17.06
4. JR 48 16.38
4. David 47 16.04
6. Nancy 44 15.02

DWTS13 Week 7 Power Rankings

Well kids, I’m afraid tonight was a prime example of how theme nights can really sabotage some (or most) of the couples – because I feel that almost every single couple was negatively impacted by their song assignments this week.  Yes, it was kinda “fun” to have a Halloween week – but making the dancing suffer in order to fit theme? No thank you. But praise Jeebus, this week was the final theme week of the season – back to business as usual next week! Well, about as “as usual” as you can get when you’re thisclose to the finale ;-)

Thoughts on the team dances: I agree that team paso had the stronger routine of the two, however – I don’t think team tango was as terrible as everyone seemed to think it was.  I think team tango was indeed better in their group sections – everyone managed to stay very in-synch, although there were a few spacing issues; team paso seemed a bit less in-synch when all 3 couples were on the floor at the same time, and it almost seemed like they tried to avoid a lot of synchronized work, which was probably a good idea.  I was also a bit bothered by the fact that team paso seemed to have quite a few spots of what I like to call “empty space” in their dance – moments where, due to the phrasing of the music, they seemed like they were just waiting or stalling until the next accent or big move.  I think team paso better captured the aggressive, haunting feel of both their music and their dance, but probably had the song with the more difficult rhythm; team tango had the song with the easier rhythm, but probably suffered due to the fact that it lacked a lot of the theatricality necessary for the tango.  Team paso was leaps & bounds stronger in the individual sections – Ricki & Derek were their usual showstopping selves, Hope managed to keep up (although I could have done without such a long count of her on the floor while Maks kinda danced around her), and oh man – ROB.  Rob was the MVP of team paso for me - he impressed the hell out of me with the way he kept up not only with Cheryl, but with Maks & Derek as well.  I was shocked at how much better JR looked dancing the tango with his team than he did individually – guess it’s a testament to how a bad song can throw even the best dancers off their game.  David seemed a bit wobbly, but was still looked decent to me; Nancy was clearly the weakest member of team tango, but man – she was out there giving it her all.  Overall, I think the scoring was about right, and likely won’t cause a huge upset when all is said & done tomorrow night.

1.) Ricki & Derek – Alone at the top of the leaderboard once again, and she thankfully did pretty well on a night where everyone seemed to have a bit of a slump.  I must say, I wasn’t completely wowed by her paso; I could kinda tell she wasn’t dancing full-out and seemed to be babying her rib, which I can’t really fault her for – I’ve bruised a couple ribs in the past and was in so much pain I could have sworn that I had collapsed a lung.  I think Derek probably went a bit easier on her with the choreo as well, as it wasn’t exactly the same level of paso genius I’ve come to expect from him.  But once again, when you’re working with a theme like Halloween – you’re kinda forced into thinking inside the box, because they’re expecting something spooky/scary/eerie/etc, and they want to see Halloween archetypes like werewolves, vampires, ghosts, etc.  Add an injured partner on top of that, and you’re pretty limited in what you can do.  Overall, though, a nice effort with a pretty good payoff for these two – I think it will be enough to keep them safe tomorrow night. DWTS 2011 Cheryl Burke “Every week on the show is Halloween anyway”

“Rob Kardashian and I are dancing the tango to something that I think everyone knows. People are going to think it’s fun,” Cheryl Burke blogs at People.com. After practicing two dances all week, Cheryl also writes of having a sore neck, but, she and Rob are ready for tonight’s show. She never thought they’d make it this far which she explains more on below….

I never thought we’d make it this far, but Rob has really proved to everybody that he’s a contender and he knows how to dance. He’s really working hard, and he’s really into it now. The finals could be really hard to get into. That third spot is still up in the air. It could be anyone. Right now it’s like every little thing counts.

Rob is definitely the partner I get along with the most. We just have a lot of fun. There’s not one day that goes by that he doesn’t make me laugh and smile. Normally at this point, you’re tired of each other, but Rob and I never feel that way. We have a great chemistry. We respect each other. We know to have fun with the process.

Wow, I never thought she’d say Rob is the partner she gets along the best with? For more, go here.

DWTS13 Kym Johnson Spills A Few Teasers For Halloween Night!

In a new interview with TV Guide, Kym gives some details for what we can expect of her and David’s Cha Cha as well as the team dances. Her team is calling themselves “Team Money”. She thinks the team dances will be “really close” in scoring which you can read on below. More on David’s challenges and their journey, how she feels on Maks and the judges, etc. at the link.

What do you have in store for Halloween?
Kym Johnson: We’ve got a song that’s kind of Halloween-based. We have the cha-cha and then we’re doing the team tango with J.R. [Martinez] and Karina [Smirnoff], and Nancy [Grace] and Tristan [MacManus]. Team dances are always so much fun. … We’re calling ourselves Team Money. I don’t really know why. It’s from Broadway Week; it’s all about the money. The other team has the paso doble. I think it’s going to be really close between us.

You guys got your highest score for your tango, so David should be comfortable with it, right?
Johnson: Yeah, exactly. That was our best score, so hopefully we’ll be able to do well with that one. We’re trying to work on some movements and fix the little things so hopefully our group score will be even better than our [individual] score. And for the cha-cha, David’s obviously never done that yet. We’ll have to get his hips moving there, getting in the rhythm and all. David has a lot of natural rhythm and a lot of it is trying to get him to harness it.
