DWTS Quick Quiz……

I’ve been here and there on the internet to try to find some information I need. DWTS had a performance show on Halloween before, so be on the look out for eventually seeing a review of that past performance show. Season 3, week 8, by the way. Also, trying to figure out the team dances…

Meanwhile, I found a lot of interesting stuff, and anyone who is “into” trivia may be interested. So here’s how it’s going to work…. I’ll post a few questions, and you answer in the comments. Simple. All the answers can be found if you look, and I’ll try to make some easy, and some not so easy. I’ll post tomorrow in the comments the correct answers, or if people found the correct answers! OH! And some of the questions MAY NOT refer to just our version…

DWTS QUICK QUIZ #1:

1.) How many celebrities have withdrawn from the US version of the show?

2.) How many professionals have had back to back wins?

3.) There are versions of the show in over 30 countries around the world, and so far, there have been 2 Dancing With The Stars World Championships. Name the country that came in first place in the first one.

That’s it! Happy hunting!

Dancing With The Stars Season 13 Las Vegas Odds For Oct. 31st

The Las Vegas Odds continue to amaze me. After the controversy surrounding Maks and Hope these last few weeks, the odds makers in Las Vegas surprisingly have Hope ranked at 3rd….though, note, it’s not a strong 3rd place position and David and Rob are tied and neck and neck with her. They have Nancy at a good distance from the pack, but can she continue to prove the Las Vegas Odds wrong again or will she not? I hate to say it, but, I worry all of this controversy with the judges and Maks is going to finally take it’s toll on the two and they will find themselves going home this upcoming Tuesday night unless they have one show stopping, perfect performance. At this point, I can’t see this happening? But, you never know? Here’s to getting back to why we are all here and that is seeing some GOOD DANCING!!

J.R. Martinez 1.25

Ricki Lake 3.75

Hope Solo 21.00

David Arquette 26.00

Robert Kardashian 26.00

Nancy Grace 51.00

DWTS13 – What’s Left to Dance?

So at this time last season, I did a run-down of what we can expect in the final 4 weeks of the season.  You guys seemed to like it, so I did it again 🙂 And this time I’m spilling who’s on what team for the team dances! Read on…

JR & Karina – remaining dances: waltz, tango, cha-cha, paso doble

A good mix of Latin and ballroom left for JR, and he’s fortunately gotten some of the harder dances (samba, Viennese waltz, jive) out of the way early. Not that I think it would really matter, give his popularity and skill ;-), but it just reduces the likelihood of a potential “Ralphing” from the judges…that is, giving a celeb a cruelly low score on a dance that they struggled with but weren’t necessarily terrible at, in an effort to oust them. I guess my only concern for JR going into these last few weeks is the more aggressive dances – tango & paso doble, and moreso the latter. So far, he’s only had to be silly & energetic (jive, quickstep, foxtrot), sexy (samba), or romantic & vulnerable (Viennese waltz & rumba). We’ve yet to see a very aggressive JR – can he muster it? I think so, but at the same time, he just seems like such a nice guy. I could see the judges pulling a “well, the steps were there, but I didn’t feel the power and anger behind them” or some nonsense like that. Those frakkin’ asshats.

Ricki & Derek – remaining dances: waltz, cha-cha, samba, paso doble

The one potential problem that jumps out at me immediately here is the samba – it’s problematic for just about everyone, but for whatever reason, it’s the one dance for which Derek’s choreo doesn’t always “wow!” me (although there have been very few sambas on this show that have actually wowed me), and that the judges seem to get particularly nitpicky about. “There wasn’t enough content”, “You guys weren’t in sync”, “Your footwork was messy”, yadda yadda yadda. I can just hear them bitching now 😛 If they’re going to attempt to set Ricki up for an “off” week again, I would almost bet they’re going to do it with the samba. I’m mildly concerned for her paso, for the simple reason that I just don’t see her being terribly aggressive; but thankfully, that’s a dance that Derek seems to thrive on, so it could work in her favor. Waltz & cha-cha? Easy dances – no biggie 😉

Nancy & Tristan – remaining dances: tango, Viennese waltz, samba, jive

Ummm, yikes. Samba is the obvious troublemaker here, and the jive is probably not going to do Nancy too many favors, either. One requires a fairly significant amount of technique (which I’m not sure she can muster); the other requires stamina, which I also have yet to see from Nancy. So far, she’s kinda lucked into getting much slower, easygoing dances; she hasn’t really had to haul ass in a dance, which is why I could also see the Viennese waltz being problematic. She just seems to move soooo slooooow sometimes…I’m having nightmarish visions of her losing time in both her Viennese waltz and jive in several places. And then there’s the tango. *sigh* We saw how well she did the first time she had an aggressive dance – her paso looked more like a leisurely stroll in the park than a bullfight. But who knows – maybe she can summon her inner tart for the tango, now that she’s shaken her stuff in the group dance 😉 But MacGrace fans, I’d buckle in for a rough few weeks ahead – because I think Nancy may have the toughest group of dances to deal with, out of the remaining couples 🙁

David & Kym – remaining dances: waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, samba

The dreaded samba strikes again! I could see poor David stumbling through that one with a bit of a “deer in the headlights” look on his face – no doubt, he’d give it his best shot, but I’m not sure he’d succeed.  He probably will be fine with the waltz & foxtrot, since he seems to be doing better with the ballroom dances; he could falter a bit with the cha-cha, since Latin hip action seems to evade him – but I daresay it wouldn’t be as hard on him as the samba.  Honestly, if he can soldier through the samba, I think he could have a decent shot at the finale…if he keeps up the improvement we’ve seen from him in the past few weeks, and can avoid being…well, creepy.  🙂

Rob & Cheryl – remaining dances: waltz, tango, quickstep, samba

Again, the big red flag here is the samba – somehow I don’t see Rob getting his hips moving like JR’s, or with as much energy. The samba, to me, is the dance that truly separates the men from the boys and the women from the girls – it’s hard, and as I said before, the judges seem uneccessarily nitpicky about it.  However, I’ve also noticed that they might tear a samba apart in their critiques, but still give it a halfway-decent score.  Maybe someday I’ll look at the scoring closer and see if they maybe cut breaks on the samba, points-wise.  Anywho! I could see Rob really doing well at his remaining ballroom dances – from what I saw in his foxtrot, he seems to have a flare for the ballroom as opposed to the Latin.  Quickstep could be a potential problem if he can’t come out of his shell a bit more, and he may need to intensify his blank stare in order to succeed in the tango…but I could see him having a shot at the finale, too.  Interesting indeed.

Hope & Maks – remaining dances: waltz, quickstep, samba, paso doble

Yet another couple who still has the pesky samba to contend with.  Hell, at this rate, the samba could be the deciding factor in who gets that coveted 3rd spot in the finale – whoever manages to muddle through it alive could be a possible candidate! Haha.  I know a lot of Hope fans have been saying “Just wait till she has the paso, she’s gonna be awesome!”, but I’m still skeptical – especially after watching her muscle her way through that tango.  Yes, paso requires strength and aggression; but it’s still a dance, and it still requires some degree of finesse and restraint.  Can she muster it? I’m not sure.  Waltz could also be problematic, since it requires a grace I have yet to see from Hope – and because it’s so slow, any potential snafus are going to stick out like a sore thumb.  Quickstep? Could go either way – if she’s able to let loose and have fun like she did in the foxtrot, I think she’ll do well; but if she goes stiff and tight like she did in the jive, it could be disasterous.

So what’s going on with the team dance? It’s this coming week (Week 7) and the teams are Ricki & Derek, Rob & Cheryl, and Hope & Maks vs. JR & Karina, David & Kym, and Nancy & Tristan.  Ricki’s team is doing a paso doble; JR’s team is doing a tango.  Heidi will reveal the songs in her “Who’s Dancing What?” post on Sunday. Now while I’m somewhat relieved that they’ve taken a break from the team cha-cha, I’m a bit concerned that this won’t necessarily be an evenly-matched face-off – the same two dances were the team dances in season 9, and team tango basically annihilated team paso.  Then again, team tango also had Derek, who thus far is undefeated in the team dance, and choreographed a dynamite team paso in season 7.  I’d say Kym is probably the 2nd most successful (2 team dance wins, and 1 tie), followed by Cheryl (2 wins, 1 loss).  Quite possibly my biggest concern: the dynamic between the pros on team paso.  Derek & Maks worked great together on the team Apolo cha-cha in season 11; but in light of some of the conflict this week, is it going to create any friction? I would hope not, but you never know.  Will be interesting to see how Tristan fares in his first team dance, and on a team with his main squeeze, no less 😉 I’m tentatively saying team paso will take this one, just based on the pros on that team having previous experience.

What about the marathon dance? Sorry, not gonna be one this season.  The group dance basically replaced it, which I’m actually kind of thankful for – the marathon dance seems to favor those with particularly high endurance, so I’m not sure Nancy, Chaz, or even Rob would have fared well in it.  At least the group dance was just a fun little ditty that let us see the couples in a new light.

When are they gonna do the Argentine tango/salsa? Not 100% when, but they are coming.  If I had to guess, I’d say they’re probably going to follow the pattern of last season, and they had these dances in weeks 8 & 9.  And if my spidey sense is correct, some of the couples with only 1 Latin dance remaining (like Rob & Cheryl) COULD end up with salsa as their instant dance.  Also in the vein of last season: for the couples who still have the standard tango remaining, they may end up doing the Argentine tango instead, and skipping the standard one altogether – that’s what happened with both Chelsea & Kirstie last season.  However, if a couple has already done the standard tango, I’m thinking they’ll probably do Argentine tango as well – that’s how it played out with Hines.  And then he ended up never doing the regular waltz.  *shrug* Go fig.

Are they going to do the “Instant Dance” again? Yes, in week 8.  And as always, it will be a Latin dance – so that week, the remaining couples will likely all do one regular ballroom dance, and then an instant Latin dance.

Do you know if the “Winner Take All” dance is coming back? Praise 8 lb 10 oz baby Jesus, it is NOT COMING BACK! 😀 Apparently it was wildy unpopular…can’t imagine why. *snicker* But I do like to think Heidi & I had something to do with its demise, since Heidi was the one that first noticed what a crock of crap it was, and I just basically shouted it to the heavens.  😛 But just because there isn’t a WTA dance, don’t assume that everything is going to be business as usual – I could see them rehashing the smackdown or medley dance, just to fill time and have something “different”.

DWTS Season 13, Week 6 – The Results (SPOILERS!!)

Well, the results are in….and we’ll leave a bit of white space so no one on twitter gets spoiled.

Chaz and Lacey are leaving tonight and I can’t say I’m very happy about that.  But it is what it is.

Ordinarily after a show like last night’s I would wager that Hope gets much nicer treatment by the judges next week because they felt bad by what happened. BUT, after seeing the behind the scenes stuff tonight, I’m not at all sure that will be the case.  Not a whole lot of pity floating around from the judges. We’ll see. Will they try to prove Maks wrong? Or will they hold a grudge??

Me? I was off by one and I think, if I remember correctly, Courtney got it right!!

With all the controversy of last night’s show, some of the show is getting lost. What about this phenomenal performance by Kristin Chenoweth and the pros? Huge props to Mark Ballas for the choreography too!! Unforgettable!! Thanks to Evaine and Heidi for this special request!

DWTS 13 Len Goodman Defends Himself! (Video)

Len Goodman sat down with Access Hollywood this morning to chat about the comments he received from Maks last night. He feels after sleeping on it that Maks probably feels bad about what happened. In defending himself, Len feels he is the “biggest defender of the pros” and he has nothing but “admiration” for the celebrities for taking on a dance show like this. He also says he is good buddies with Maks and he understands who he is and that he has a firey way about him. Access Hollywood shows Len a poll they ran this morning where Maks is winning on who was right or wrong. Len agreed with it saying he’d vote for Maks for the win too. 😯 lol Well, I’m glad there are no hard feelings with Len. For whatever it’s worth, I hope both sides learn something from what happened.

DWTS Season 13, Week 6 Interviews After The Dance Part 2 (Videos)

In Part 2 of our interview posts after last night’s dances, we have Carson Kressley on Good Morning America. Carson is calling last night’s show “Max Gate”. LOL!! Carson gets serious and says Maks probably over reacted, but, “he’s Maks” and it’s understandable when you feel the need to voice your opinion in “heat of the moment”. Carson also thinks it’s all “subjective”. He also discusses who he thought danced the best. He’s a hoot as always. More below….

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

Louis Van Amstel also reviewed the night in his new blog at ABC. He thinks Ricki, J.R., and Rob are “absolutely safe”. Below are his thoughts on Hope, Maks, and the rant Maks gave to the judges. More at the link for his thoughts on all the other couples more in-depth.

Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s Rumba. I love Hope and I think she’s in a difficult position. Somehow, I believe Hope is totally being confused by too many cooks in the kitchen. Hope is trying her absolute hardest, and she did a good job with her legs. I saw a great attempt at personal intimacy. There’s no chemistry between them as a couple, but I believe that comes from the atmosphere during rehearsal. I can so understand why Hope is totally confused. It doesn’t matter how long a celebrity takes, with patience you can achieve so much more. I agree with Carrie Ann. I agree with Len’s comments but, even if I do agree with Len’s comments, it’s a rule the judges can only criticize the pro’s. Boots don’t help a smooth leg action. Bruno, you’re going to tell Maks how to do the Rumba??? Hope, I love your answer to Brooke. Please be yourself and don’t let anyone change who you are. Wow, Maks, I know what you meant to say when you said “it’s my show,” it just came out the wrong way. The scores are a little low. I would have given a 7 and 8.

As a pro, if you talk back to the judges it always makes you look like the bad guy, even if you’re right. I’m not saying I agree with Maks tonight, because I actually don’t. Len never really explained why he said Maks was part of the problem, because he cut Len off. These discussions, in my opinion, are good because this was real. But, often times, Len blurts out statements that are so fabricated. I wish it was always real.

Overall: Ricki, J.R. and Rob are absolutely safe. David is pretty safe. I don’t know how much viewers will let the episode between Maks and the judges influence their votes. Otherwise, I still think Hope is pretty safe. I’m worried for Chaz the most and, if it’s on pure dancing, I’m worried for Nancy. If the audience votes on performance and growth, Nancy will be safe. Tomorrow night is going to be interesting.

And here are the Access Hollywood interviews….

Derek and Ricki chat about their performance and the process they went through to pull it off. Derek gives his thoughts on Maks’ heated words to the judges. He has “two minds” on it being there is a lot of pressure. He said he snapped at the judges once and learned not to do it. He basically thinks it’s best to hold back and roll with the punches since everyone has to take them.

Lacey and Chaz are clearly upset with the judges. Lacey is supporting Maks 100%! (I’m still fuming over Bruno calling Chaz a “penguin”. I agree how it’s not right to criticize what they look like.)

Maks doesn’t regret anything he said last night. Even if he’s wrong in some people’s eyes, he has a right to his opinion for what this Country is about. He thought the judges have been unfair and he said so. Love or hate him, he’s not going to change.

Be sure to watch this video by PopTVDotCom as well. There is a great interview with Tristan in it. Tom and Tony also address the “controversy” of last night. Maks pretty much avoids Henry’s questions when asked on the fight with the judges. I believe Maks is with Daria? She is so beautiful!

Shew, what a night! Here’s to tonight’s results! 😉

DWTS Season 13, Week 6 Interviews After The Dance Part 1 (Videos)

If you are anxious like I am, let’s get right to the new interviews with George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet. He asks the couples on their dances, their progress since week one, and how they each feel on Maks’ rant to the judges!!

First, below is Ricki and Derek with their reactions to their dance and the judges criticisms. Derek says they appreciate and are glad the judges liked their dance last night. Derek explains how much Ricki has improved since the first week and she’s “right on track” for where he wants them to be. Ricki said last night’s dance was her favorite thus far. On Maks, Derek didn’t agree with what he did. They are seasoned professionals and know the show. “Disrespecting the judges is crossing the line.”

Chaz is upset and is as sad as his face looks because of the judges low scores of his dance which he thought were unfair. Last night’s critiques, were “the icing on the cake”. Lacey supports Maks for what he had to say to the judges since he said what a lot of them couldn’t. She also mentions how unfair it is that some people received a “9” who didn’t deserve it while they pick on Chaz.

George asks Maks and Hope on her progress. She thought last night was a “break through” even though no one else thought so. Maks was happy with their dance. Maks talks about his rant. He just wishes the judges were “on the same page with everyone” when they judged. When he was taught to judge in ballroom, he was taught to be fair and judge the people and not their personalities. Hope ends the interview saying she had fun this past week and hope it continues.

Nancy is doing the happy dance after she and Tristan received a “9” and after learning they are in 3rd place. She and Tristan address Maks’comments to the judges. Nancy says when working in the courtroom you had to learn to keep tight lipped when the judges made a decision. Tristan says he understands both staying quiet on it and wanting to defend yourself. “There is no right or wrong on it”. They talk of their progress from week one. They are pleased with her handstand.

J.R. and karina are beyond excited and happy over their two “10’s” last night. They go through their progress since week one and how much J.R. is learning on his journey. If they could redo a dance, Karina would choose the Jive which she thought the judges were too harsh about when they only got “7’s”. J.R. thinks the judges have been fair to him for the most part. What they’ve said, he’s tried to work on.

Rob was as comfortable as he could be “shaking it”. Derek pops in to say and joke that “Rob was robbed” last night. George puts Cheryl on the spot asking her about Maks comments. She says Maks has his opinion and she agrees that it would be nice if they didn’t get criticized for trying to make their partners look good after they’ve worked so hard.

David starts the interview saying he was disappointed on his dance last night. He’s hard on himself, but, Kym and George commend him and his high energy. On Maks, David understands the pressure of the show and how it can make people passionate. He also says a little drama doesn’t hurt a reality show.

More interviews coming up. Stay tuned. 😉

DWTS Season 13, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, another season, another mis-placed Maks blow up. Oy veh.  It’s a shame – he had me until the sky box. Where he lost me. And then he apparently unfollows Derek because Derek speaks his mind for a change?? Hypocrisy, thy name is Maks. Dude, if you want the freedom to speak your mind, you have to give the same freedom to everyone else.  I find it most shocking of all that he doesn’t SEE all this. Any thinking being would say, well, he’s free to air his opinions, good or bad.  And that’s true. But where does it say that he gets that freedom, yet Derek (or Len, or Carrie Ann or Karina or Bruno) doesn’t?  And, if you’re going to air your opinions loudly on TV, you have to take the responses you get, good and bad. We all do. Instead, he un-follows Derek and his fans lambaste Derek on twitter – um, who was the ass on TV again?? Hint: it wasn’t Derek. Or Karina. Or JR. Or Nancy – all of whom expressed opinions similar to Derek’s, or at least displeasure.

Were the judges badly behaved? Bruno was, in his comments to Chaz, whose feelings I think were terribly hurt. It’s a cumulative effect – there’s only so long you can take those comments. I don’t think Len deserved what he got. We’ve all discussed how the judges can suck – but we’ve known this for YEARS.  For the love of god, this isn’t new and the complainers have certainly benefited from them being wacky in the past – and will in the future, most likely. There is a lot to be said for professionalism…and as Maks himself said, he’s been on the show long enough to know how this game works. Or he should.

Unfortunately, Maks will likely come out the winner in all this. Gain followers through controversy, gain sympathy votes, gain another week – maybe even gain a role in Dirty Dancing for being a complete ass, since the director was in the audience. Mission accomplished?? We’ll see. 🙂

As for the rest of the cast? Well, the cynical side of me wonders if Maks does this with half a mind to getting attention for him and Hope because the rest of them seem to be an afterthought, with the exception of Derek and his brouhaha. Have a bad dance and need votes?? Instigate massive, attention getting fight, thus getting your fans all riled up on your behalf.

Seriously  – conspiracy theories generally don’t fly with me. Occam’s Razor – the simplest explanation is likely the correct one (in a nutshell).  He was probably just having a blow after bottling it in for years (um, theoretically?).  🙂  Just a momentary flight of fancy on my part.  I do think that Evaine and her sparkle/glitter crew need to give Maks a twirl and a glitter shower. I think she’s up for the task. 🙂

Apart from the blow out, Hope certainly got the personality of the dance right – and I actually liked her more last night than I have before. But the girl is not a great dancer, no matter what Maks is trying to sell. I don’t think the judges were that far off the mark, personally.

Nancy!! Hurray for Nancy!! Don’t think she deserved a 9, but Len balanced it out. Of course, that damn song is stuck in my head forever now.  And I’m whistling a lot. Hurray for Tristan too – that was some nice, bright, choreography. I think they both had a breakthrough.

Ricki and JR – both fantastic dances. My only concern is the same as it always is – the top of the leaderboard, combined with a massive fight between another couple and the judges, can lead to a lack of votes for other dancers – just through sheer neglect. I don’t think either of them will be in trouble, but it could spell trouble for someone like David or Nancy.

David, Rob and Chaz – I’ll be honest and say that I don’t remember much about their dances. Is the dance the problem or everything that followed? Hard to say.  Oh, but go back and watch over Tom’s shoulder in the third tier of seats – before Chaz dances. Hilarious. Anyway, enough blather.

Let’s look at the numbers.

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Ricki 29 17.47
2. JR 29 17.47
2. Nancy 24 14.46
4. David 23 13.86
4. Rob 22 13.25
6. Hope 20 12.05
7. Chaz 19 11.45
