DWTS Season 25, Week 3 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Oh boy. We’re in some dangerous territory come this Monday night. I understand (and appreciate) the desire to keep last Monday night light hearted, without any kind of threat of elimination, due to the awful events in Las Vegas, but the margins are so freakin’ close that literally any one of about half the cast could be eliminated, depending on how ardent their fanbase is (or isn’t).  This could get interesting. And that makes it all that much harder to call. I’m batting about 500 right now and I don’t think I’ll improve my stats much on Monday.

FYI, the running order issue from the first three episodes seems to have resolved itself, for this week at least. the average score in the first half of the show was nearly identical to that in the last half of the show (0.33 points difference).  We’ll see if that lasts. It was getting quite annoying.

So, let’s look at what we’re dealing with. Read more..

DWTS Season 25, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Week 4 already??? My, how time flies! I guess this means it’s time for “Most Memorable Year”, a week often filled with sob stories, contemporaries and other maudlin stuff. Hopefully it will be uplifting instead of draining this season. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t. Ya never know until you get there.

Winners this week: Anyone doing contemporary, except those with a partner who isn’t good at contemporary. 🙂 Nikki and Jordan should be fine….Nick? Hard to say. Last time Peta wanted to do a contemporary she got outside help. Props to her for owning her own weak spot. Sharna also ought to do well with Derek, having Jazz.

Losers this week: Anyone doing a dance with rules competing against all those who have none. Judges have already shown they have no ability to make this distinction when it comes to scoring. That said, those with Foxtrot and Waltz will likely be fine. Drew and Jive?? Has potential to be either a disaster or illuminating that he really has gotten the hang of it. Vanessa and Rumba? Well, I would say that she’ll smash it, but that’s a pretty close dance to do with someone you’re struggling with. Could be very challenging. Read more..

PureDWTS Season 25, Week 3 – Power Rankings

And that, my friends, is an example of how trying to shoehorn certain dances to fit a theme ends up yielding some pretty awkward, inorganic-looking dances. Overall, I would consider this the weakest of the three instances where the show used this theme – the other being in season 12 (halfway decent) and season 15 (chaotic, but okay). It felt like they were reeeealllly stretching to find songs/dances that fit well with the celebs’ (alleged) guilty pleasures, this time around.  And while we’re on the topic – I actually hate the phrase “guilty pleasure”, because really, if it brings you pleasure (and it’s not a detriment to anyone else’s well-being), why should you feel guilty about it? Lord knows society puts enough pressure on people these days to fit into certain norms; this just seems to be another way to shame people into feeling bad about what makes them happy. You love you some pumpkin spice lattes? Drink ‘em up, champ. Do you love doing the Carlton dance at weddings? That’s not unusual, bud. Does watching Superbad make you giggle uncontrollably, no matter how many times you’ve seen it? Well you’re in good company, cause it does me too, and I’m not sorry. Really and truly, unless someone’s “pleasure” involves pedophilia, misogyny, racism, homophobia, animal cruelty, or any other activity that has the potential to hurt someone else in a non-consensual manner, they shouldn’t have to feel ashamed by it in anyway.  Shame the real villains – not the folks staying in their lane and trying to do the things that bring them joy, however small it might be.

Ok, now that I’m off my soapbox, down to the business at hand: so with no elim last night, what does that mean for next week’s elim? Basically, a huge points dump from two dances means the margins are going to get even closer, and with 5 couples clustered in the 39-41 point range at the bottom, it really is going to come down to fanbase – who is getting the votes and who isn’t.  And honestly – I think it could be any one of four different couples, and I’m not at all confident picking which one. I get the feeling it likely won’t be a double elim, as some have been speculating – given that next week is “most memorable year” week, which is typically pretty emotional and usually doesn’t have an elim, I think it’s only going to be a single one, and they’ll likely save the double for later in the season (I’m guessing team dance week, or week 8 or 9, when they can use it as a tool to narrow down their ideal finale). So in light of me feeling so uncertain about next week’s eliminees, I’m putting the four couples I think it will come down to in my “danger zone” – which means that I think it could ostensibly be any one of the four headed home.

Other odds & ends? Opener felt a bit strange & forced to me – it almost seemed like they were saying swimming and science were “guilty pleasures”.  Where was Maks? Dunno, other than the fact that nobody seemed to tell the crew what was up – very hush-hush, and by writing it off as a “personal issue”, it seemed like the show was trying to sweep it under the rug and hope nobody noticed…which of course, left it wide open for fans to speculate on, and People to spin something a bit less flattering. My only opinion on the matter is that we’re not getting the full story, we probably won’t ever get the full story, and that gushing Instagram posts don’t necessarily mean all is right in the world. The invisible hand of TPTB is likely at work here… Read more..

PureDWTS Season 25 Week 3 Media, Recaps, And More After The Dances

With the Las Vegas shootings last night, the producers of Dancing With Thee Stars opted out of any interviews after the show. So, we don’t have much media. But, below are a few things as well as a review the scores.

Lindsey & Mark 27 (9, 9, 9)
Jordan & Lindsay 25 (9, 7, 9)
Drew & Emma 23 (8, 7, 8)
Vanessa & Alan 23 (7, 8, 8)
Victoria & Val 22 (8, 7, 7)
Derek & Sharna 21 (7, 7, 7)
Nikki & Artem 21 (7, 7, 7)
Frankie & Witney 21 (7, 7, 7)
Nick & Peta 21 (7, 7, 7)
Terrell & Cheryl 21 (7, 7, 7)
Sasha & Gleb 19 (7, 6, 6)

Mark & Lindsey had the dance of the night in my opinion. I loved Jordan & Lindsay and Drew & Emma too.To watch the dances again, see Idolxfactor.com (these videos work internationally) and the official Your Tube page. Don’t miss some behind the scenes videos at the official Facebook page.

People and Glamour have some recaps. Note this quote from People and the reason why Maks might not have danced last night. Geez, isn’t he paid to dance whether he has an issue with his partner or not?

However, sources confirm to PEOPLE that Chmerkovskiy did not perform by choice because of ongoing conflict with Lachey.

“There’s a big chemistry issue,” the insider says. “They both have big personalities and that’s not always the best recipe for a good partnership.”

Dancing with the Stars Season 25, Week Three – LIVE BLOG

One of the great things about DWTS is that it is a moment of fun in a very harsh world these days.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the horrific events of last night in Las Vegas, especially our “Charlie”, John.  Please consider giving blood, no matter where you are – and call your representatives if you, like me, pray for sensible gun legislation.

Perfect start to the show by Tom Bergeron. Pretty fun opening number, I must say.

Maks is dealing with a personal issue?? And no elimination this week. Which means we’ll probably have a double next week.

Fun package from Drew and Emma and a pretty fine dance as well. It’s quite possible that Drew has found his stride. And Drew is cuter than Jonathan. Read more..

DWTS Season 25, Week 2 (Tuesday Night) – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, what to say about last Tuesday night? The scoring, combined with Who’s Dancing What, seems to indicate that Nick, Vanessa and Sasha are the current producer favorites.  Although I don’t think most dances are handed out last minute, I do think their favorites are picked pre-season, so there you go.

That said, I don’t know how much of a favor you’re doing Vanessa by giving her Jazz when it’s fairly well documented that her pro can’t hang in the non-ballroom/latin dance styles. He would certainly benefit from some classes if he’s going to continue on DWTS. Or at least get a ghost. Nick, on the other hand, may fare better because I don’t remember Peta sucking at Jazz or contemporary. Gleb? I don’t remember his choreo for either Jazz or Contemporary – I guess that’s not really a bad sign, since I don’t remember anything truly awful. 🙂 Read more..

DWTS Season 24 Champ Rashad Jennings Gives Dancing Advice For Terrell Owens And Derek Fisher

Dancing With The Stars Season 24 Champ Rashad Jennings has some advice for fellow athletes Terrell Owens And Derek Fisher…and it was perfect advice. Read below to see what I mean. I love Rashad. From USA Today….

“Yeah, I talked to T.O. and Derek, and I told them both you have to be vulnerable. Allow yourself to go there. Because to tell a story and paint a picture through music and allow it to flow through your body, you have to be vulnerable. You gotta be be comfortable in uncomfortable positions, which most athletes are. Most athletes are also used to gruesome hours of work. I told them it’s going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done. Trust me. Especially if keep making it week after week; it keeps getting harder and harder.

“So I told them to relax. Not take themselves too seriously. Don’t let the judges get under your skin. Because they’re going to give you criticism. But you have to really buy into the culture of each dance. And you’re going to get to know yourself on a personal level.”

More at USA Today.

DWTS Season 25, Week 3 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Guilty Pleasures week. I seem to recall this was something of a trainwreck last time, although I could be wrong. What to expect is probably a whole bunch of the troupe plus a whole bunch of props and probably not much DANCING.

Winners: I’m sure it’s totally a coincidence that Sasha, Nick, and Vanessa all got Jazz. :::rolls eyes::: Well, at least others will save it for when the competition gets tougher. As for Lindsey getting Jive – I don’t know if it’s necessarily a “win” but that style seems perfect for her personality.

Losers: Nikki doing V. Waltz?? Didn’t she JUST do waltz this past week?? Hosed. And Frankie doing Samba?? He can probably handle it, but his first latin is the hardest one??

ETA: And the running order is starting to come out.  Cheryl and TO are doing alright, ain’t they?

Nikki Bella and Artem – Viennese Waltz (Song: “Love on the Brain” by Rihanna)
