Is DWTS Host Tom Bergeron on Season 3 of The Masked Singer???

It looks like the Berge might have an off-season gig – all signs point to him being “the Taco” on this season of The Masked Singer!

The Taco made his debut on last night’s episode, singing a pretty impressive version of “Fly Me To The Moon” by Frank Sinatra:

I hadn’t caught any of the clues and was only half paying attention, but my immediate thought was “Why does this guy sound SO FAMILIAR???” And it hit me like lightening: this was none other than our beloved Berge, who I’ve been listening to for almost 15 years (and blogging about for the last 10) week after week! Then I went back and watched the clues, and was able to reverse-engineer them:

Now let’s unpack some of the clues (which are admittedly pretty corny, but also a bit less obvious than they’ve been in previous seasons):

*says he’s been “a comforting part of your life for decades” (he’s been in the business since 1981)

*pile of VHS tapes (obvious nod to his stint hosting America’s Funniest Home Videos)

*he’s got “plenty of seasoning” (I took this as him referring to the many seasons he’s spent hosting DWTS)

*an anchor (one of his first gigs was as an anchor on a Boston CBS-affiliate station)

*a Rubik’s cube (likely a nod to hosting Hollywood Squares from 1998-2004)

*a trolley (not a nod to San Francisco, as some seemed to think; but a nod to the song he sang on the “Thank You, Mister Rodgers” tribute album)

There were probably some other clues I missed, but it was enough for me to say “Yeah, aside from sounding exactly like my favorite TV host, the clues totally point to Tom Bergeron.” Add to that the fact that both DWTS and TMS share a casting director (Deena Katz), and I think it’s a no-brainer that it’s Berge.

A lot of folks on YouTube & Instagram seem to be claiming it’s Tim Allen, Martin Short, or Bob Saget (who was my second guess, but he sounds totally different singing) – but I think the real OG’s in the DWTS fandom know what’s up 😉 I’m rooting for Tom to win it – I really had no idea that he could actually SING. Check out the aforementioned song he did for the “Thank You, Mister Rodgers” album:

As for the rest of the folks this season – so far, we’ve unmasked two DWTS alums (season 18’s Drew Carey was the Llama, and season 21’s Chaka Khan was Miss Monster) and it’s pretty much a given that the White Tiger is Court’s DWTS Wishlist member Rob Gronkowski. I’m also wondering if the Kitty is season 17 DWTS alum Elizabeth Berkeley, but that remains to be seen…

…so what do you guys think? Are you watching The Masked Singer this season? Do you think the Taco is Bergeron?

PureDWTS: Cheryl Burke on The Boris & Nicole Show, Reveals Her Original Season 18 Partner

Hope everyone has been enjoying their summer 🙂 Thought I’d share this little ditty that fell into my lap entirely by accident yesterday, as I was making my morning cup o’ coffee in my office break room while half-listening to the janky tv in there that constantly cuts out and only seems to get random channels…

…Cheryl appeared on The Boris & Nicole Show yesterday, which premiered on Monday and is having a 4-week trial run on FOX.  She chatted about her activewear line, her stint on I Can Do That, her backing out of judging Miss USA, and memories from DWTS.  Full episode is below, and Cheryl’s segment starts around the 22:00 mark.  What I found most interesting, though, was the revelation she dropped about her season 18 partner – turns out Drew Carey was a replacement for someone else:

“Let me tell you guys about Boris over here. He was supposed to be my partner, then he backed out – or chickened out – then, guess who my partner was. And I love him – DREW CAREY! Drew Carey is great, but I think [Boris] and I might have lasted a little longer!”

So yeah, Cheryl’s original season 18 partner was supposed to be Soul Food actor Boris Kodjoe, and Drew only entered the equation after Boris backed out.  I loved Drew & Cheryl together, but I can’t help but be curious about how a Boris & Cheryl partnership might have turned out.  Or who knows – maybe Boris might still be available for a future season! The little bit of hip action he showed in the segment that followed was decent enough. What do you guys think?

DWTS Season 18, Week 8: Who’s Dancing What…and When?? (SPOILERS)

Well, let’s hope that this week is finally Charlie’s week. Quickstep should be great for him. If he does another great dance only to get hosed by the judges in their quest to get Meryl and Maks the MBT – well, I might have to write a really long, scathing rant post that blisters the ass of any producer that comes close to this site. (waves) Seriously, this show is pissing me off big time. Have they learned nothing from their other pimpees, who include the likes of Chelsea Kane and William Levy – that reminds me, I need to finish my post entitled “Winners Never Pimp and Pimpers Never Win.” For you reading-impaired shippers of the quivering loins with your heads in the clouds – this has nothing to do with Meryl herself, or her ability. It has to do with the single minded moronic quest of the judges and producers to make sure that Meryl and Maks win. If she’s all that….LET IT HAPPEN.

Anyway, I hope Amy does well on the AT, but her injuries worry me. James is a big question mark for me on a dance like V.Waltz. Candace should do well as she could be in hold a lot of the time. Danica and Val?? Who the hell knows? Meryl and Maks? Tums are your friend. 😉

ETA #1: So Danica’s song is the only one I immediately recognized from this week’s list of individual dances…the rest are more obscure.  And rumor has it that Grandma Chmerkovskiy flew in to observe one of Maks & Val’s dual rehearsal sessions…that ought to make for an interesting rehearsal package 😛 -Court-

ETA #2: I’m back from out of town and ready to rumble. There are going to be ground rules for Monday night – I’m going to post them here and reiterate them on Monday night so none of you forget. First, DO NOT constantly hit refresh. Read, comment if you want, then walk away for a few minutes. There’s no possible way for you to read anything new if everyone keeps clicking refresh. Two – DO NOT use the comment section like it’s twitter. If people start posting one-liners, I’m going to start deleting. If I have to delete you several times in a row, I’m putting you on moderation. You need context. Think of it this way – if someone comes along two hours later and reads your comment, will they be able to tell what you’re talking about? If the answer is no, you’re doing it wrong. The last couple Monday nights have been out of control – ya’ll need to start practicing some simple netiquette. Look it up. 😀 ~Heidi

ETA #3: Okay, so the “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” IS the Lorde version, as someone earlier suggested. Other tidbits we’ve heard? James is doing pretty well with a standard Viennese waltz, with at least one cool move where James is holding Peta’s leg over her head. Amy is having trouble with the AT. 🙁 Whether it’s due to her lack of feet, her injury or just the lack of rehearsal, it’s hard to say. Also, as I alluded to in the comments, all the pros are pretty pissed that Abby Lee Miller is judging them on Monday night.

ETA #4: Anybody else think that Candace hit the song/dance combo jackpot?? 🙂 With Mark as her choreographer, this should be a really cute dance.

ETA #5: Some last minute intel on the various dances – all sound interesting:
* Apparently Meryl & Maks’ rumba isn’t all that unorthodox – though parts of it look like a couple fighting. So maybe think less “protesting the situation in Ukraine” and more “wife working up the courage to leave an abusive husband”? There’s also a part where she rolls around on the floor.

* Amy is using a stool for part of her Argentine tango – the question is: will the judges like it, or dock her for it? (Heidi says “docked” since it’s about time the judges start angling for their favorite finalists – tonight will be telling)

* Source says his/her least favorite dance this week is Danica’s tango – wayyy too slow and weird.

* Apparently, Candace’s foxtrot has a comedic storyline to it – might be starting off sitting on a bench.

* Charlie’s quickstep is “cute and fun” and actually has a section of tango in the middle – will get him hosed or praised? He seems to be struggling a bit with the technique and hold – we’ll see if he gets it fixed before showtime. (Again, Heidi votes “hosed” – just cuz that’s what they do to Charlie, whether he deserves it or not.)

* Looks like Peta & James may have omitted the leg in the air trick from their Viennese waltz – it was a potential “lift risk”.

* All of the duels are looking good – our source particularly praised Amy & James’ jive duel.

Amy and Derek – Argentine Tango (song: “Heart Upon My Sleeve” by Avicii )
1-800-868-3410

James and Peta – Viennese Waltz (song: “6-2” by Marie Miller )
1-800-868-3402

Charlie and Sharna – Quickstep (song: “My Heart Goes Boom” by Miss Li )
1-800-868-3412

Candace and Mark – Foxtrot (song: “That’s It, I Quit, I’m Movin’ On” by Sam Cooke )
1-800-868-3407

Danica and Val – Tango (song: “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Lorde )
1-800-868-3403

Meryl and Maks – Rumba (song: “Read All About It, Part III” by Emeli Sandé )
1-800-868-3406

Round two, as you all know by now, is three sets of “Duos” dancing together. (:::sigh:::) The Duos are:

James/Amy – dancing Jive (song: “Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That” by Robert Randolph & the Family Band )

Charlie/Candace – dancing contemporary (song: “Stay With Me” by Sam Smith )

Meryl/Danica – dancing samba (song: “I Luh Yah Papi” by J. Lo feat. French Montana )

Dancing with the Stars Season 18, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, it’s Candace’s time in the hot seat, with Drew leaving us last week. Lucky for her, her road isn’t nearly as rough as Drew’s was.  Who’s going to be eliminated it a bit more up in the air.

Meryl, of course, is still pretty insulated at the top of the leader board – she did a great dance and she shouldn’t have any problems this week. Even though there are risks being pretty consistently at the top too. Four out of six weeks, Meryl has been at the top of the leaderboard – sometimes it has been earned and other times – not so much. Thing is, she’s been up there all by herself most of the time when I feel like others have danced just as well (Charlie), with harder choreography. So, the question is – how much complacency is in her fanbase?? I’m sure Maks’ fans are anything but complacent at this point – but the pros fanbase won’t get you the win. Obviously.

There are five weeks of dancing left – I doubt they will start underscoring Meryl, but the question is, will they start giving Charlie the scores he deserves? If they are going to do that, it’s time for them to start the growth arc. If they are determined for Meryl to win…they won’t start scoring Charlie appropriately. I’m quite curious to see what happens. I called Charlie for the win before the season even started – but my prediction kinda hinges on him getting scored appropriately. He sure hasn’t been until now. If Meryl were dancing with Derek, I’m certain she would probably win. I don’t think it’s a sure thing with Maks. I still think Charlie has a real shot.

Another big question I have – why is NeNe getting so much love from the judges?? For all the whining and complaining I see about Amy and her scores, girlfriend can seriously dance AND Derek is giving her actual dances that resemble (strongly) the style they’re supposed to be. Some people still want her marked down for some reason (I have theories, fear being a large component). But the same cannot be said for NeNe.  NeNe is putting on good performances (most of the time) but her dances have only been in the stated style about half the time – yet no one has said a word, she’s getting 9s and people bitch about Amy. It’s rather mind boggling.  I hate to break it to you folks who are scared of Amy and Derek – when NeNe is getting high scores, it’s MORE likely that your favorite will go home in a shocking elimination. There is not a huge spread between the dancers when EVERYONE is doing pretty well, score wise. Some of you focus on Amy – you should be worried as much or MORE about NeNe.  There is a method to their madness, after all. A reason why she’s getting good scores. You better hope they wise up fast. If she’s hitting some metric of popularity which results in overscoring so she sticks around – she’s the one you should be scared of.  See Leah Remini staying longer than Christina and Liz. Same thing – over scoring of Leah put her in easy striking distance of Liz.  Combine the likely-very-popular Candace at the bottom with the overscored NeNe above her…well, it could get interesting. DWTS Season 18, Week 7: Who’s Dancing What…and When?? (SPOILERS)

A comment before we get to this weeks dances… if you claim you hate this site, and then copy what we write verbatim (or copy Courtney’s tweets verbatim), post it to your skating forum or Maks tumblr and take credit for the info, you are a sad, poor thing. Not only are you a hypocrite who spends way more time here than your little friends realize (thanks for the hits!!), but hopefully now your little friends know you got it all from here. 😀 Ya stole it with nary a mention of those of us who actually told you what to say. Tisk tisk. Do you think we don’t see?? Honeys, every time you visit the site, we know where you came from. 😉 We appreciate your visits…we’ll put you on blast next time, we appreciate you so much.

Now, on to some other stuff. NeNe is apparently playing a Madam trying to prevent the randy Tony from getting to her girls. Why do I sense multiple, scantily clad females in this dance? And why have all the dances suddenly become “super sized”?? Rarely do I like it. Val’s cups and saucers were cute and Derek’s wedding. That’s it.

Charlie has a song, apparently, that is not even remotely Latin. Why does this guy keep getting screwed?? I don’t get it. Can we have some normal music please? I don’t like Amy’s song either, so there you go. Read more..

Afterbuzz TV Reviews DWTS18 Week 6 With Henry Byalikov, Dance Teasers For Next Week

Kristyn Burtt is back this week (yay! I missed her last week!)! She, Suri Serano, Anna Trebunskaya, and Henry Byalikov down the dances for Dancing With The Stars Season 18 Week 6. As well as the dances, they review Redfoo as a judge….the panel didn’t like him, but, Henry liked him (as I did!). They also talked of the Macy’s Stars Of Dance. This part was fascinating as Henry explains how long rehearsals took, the technicalities, and gives Derek Hough and Allison huge props for how they put the routine together! He describes Derek as “phenomenal” and Allison as a “beast”. Note also that Kristyn mentions Charlie has a Paso Doble and Meryl has a Salsa next week. Henry also gives some hints of the new opening number and what it will be like. Another great show!
