DWTS Season 15 – Maksim Thinks He and Kirstie are the “Best Entertainers”

Whatcha smokin’ sunshine?? :-)  Eh, you’re fun, but the best?? That would be Gilles…  :::cough, cough:::  Just kidding. :-D But you’re still not the best in MY book. :-)  I’ve seen you and Kirstie’s shtick before.   Some excerpts from Maks’ latest blog:

I really enjoyed the whole dance selection segment, but the problem was, none of us could hear what Tom and Brooke were saying on stage! It’s so loud in there, so when they explained how it was going to work, none of us heard it. Afterward, I went up to one of the producers and asked how the order was selected and they explained it was the cumulative score and the lowest couple picked for the highest couple and then vice versa. It’s obvious they wanted the lower couples to sabotage the higher couples by giving them silly dances, but nobody really did. Nobody tried to put someone down. Plus, I don’t think 10 seconds is enough time to strategize like that. Louis actually came up to me after the show and said, “Hey, are you really upset we gave you the Charleston? We think it’d be good for you.” And I said, “No, not at all. It was just in the moment. I don’t think I would’ve been happy with either right then.” But overall, I thought the idea itself was funny and it was different from what we normally do.

I’m so happy for Val that he’s made it past the third week for the first time. I love him and Kelly’s partnership. I love that they have emerged as a surprise contender, if you can even say that in an all-star season. I love their chemistry. I’ve known Kelly for a long time and she’s a good friend. She’s got an amazing story, from her youth to how she got to where she is now. I’m glad that audiences are recognizing them as a couple that’s up there. We have no idea what the vote totals are, but I really hope there’s a strong fan base behind them. I do wish that they would reveal the votes at least. I do believe that everything’s fair, and if it’s not manipulated, what do you have to hide? In a season like this, votes are more important than ever.

Poor, poor, naive Maks. :-) Dude, there are several reasons why you don’t reveal the vote totals. One, if they are low in total number, it’s just embarrassing. Two, it ruins the DRAMA of it all. If you knew who was getting what votes every week, just think how easy it would be to predict the elimination order or the winner? Yeah, I’m pretty much kicking ass this season anyway ;-) but there would be no challenge. Anyway…you DID TOO look like an ugly woman. :-)

I don’t, however, think I looked like an ugly woman. I think I’d make for a handsome woman! The whole concept was a lot of fun and obviously we were going for the androgynous rocker look because that’s what the era was like. I think that when you play a rock star, you go all out. When it comes to acting, if I were to play a role, there’d be a lot more research of the character’s mindset, etc. It’s very important to understand why the person was going through what they went through. Rock ‘n’ roll was a whole lifestyle. It was drug-induced. When we’re getting ready for the dance, Kirstie was like, “You have to act like you’re tripping on acid.” I’ve never done a drug in my life. I don’t have the slightest idea of what a person tripping on acid looks like. I’m not judging rock stars or their decisions because what they did was genius, but it’s very hard for me to understand what that was like.

The Insider has the bit on Maks and his cryogenics thing – didn’t Maria turn him on to this last season??

DWTS All Stars – The Make Up Team Releases Week 3 Photos

I always find these interesting, although I rarely comment on them. This week I clicked the link to their facebook and saw an interesting series of pictures. I will narrate for you…

“Someone’s missing…Hey, Derek, get your little butt over into this picture!!” Derek: “I’m busy man, leave me alone.”

Gilles: “Come sit by me, Derek”

Apolo: “Raahahaha I danced GOOD.”

Various crew members successfully wrestle Derek in to position… “DEREK, PUT DOWN THE PHONE.”

Crew member takes his phone. Derek: “You can’t keep me here…this sucks.”

After having avoided the Make Up Teams camera for 2.5 weeks, Derek is finally captured on film. And he ain’t happy about it.

The End ;-)

If you want to see all of the week three pictures, hit up DWTS Make Up Teams Facebook Page.

DWTS Season 15 – Week 3 Post Elimination Media

Heh. You guys are used to getting all the media from nice, sweet, kind Vogue. Now you’re stuck with ME. And Courtney. I saw Courtney being all nice in her Voguecation post. Don’t expect the same from me. :::evil grin:::

Of course, you know when I go to OTRC, I’m going to watch Gilles and Louis to see how big an idiot they’re acting. :-) But when I started watching Gilles, I got distracted by what Derek is doing to Anna in the background.  And she’s like…petting him or something. Dancers. Very touchy feely. Click the link to watch all of the couples.

Does Louis know at this point that he and Sabrina were bottom three? :-) Remember, the ballroom is VERY loud so they can’t hear all that well. Louis makes it quite clear he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He’s assuming Kirsti was a bottom two when she wasn’t. Sorry Louis, you were third from the bottom. Anyway, again with the “redemption” arch and how Helio was the champion Sabrina’s season. Give it a rest already. Sabrina and Helio were TIED – which means Sabrina only needed ONE vote to beat him. Not thousands….ONE.

Entertainment Tonight with Maks, Kirstie and Paula – Kirstie and Paula get after Maks a bit. :-) Then it’s Maks/Kirstie…and well, I couldn’t watch it all. I don’t have that kind of time. :-)

Saying Goodbye To Drew Lachey & Helio Castroneves – Elimination Interviews

Court here, filling in for the “Voguecationing” Vogue 8-) I know I’m not as good at these as she is, but I’m gonna give it the old college try in her absence! And just hope that she comes back to us soon :-( We miss you, Vogue!!!

Making the rounds after their heartbreaking (and premature, IMO) double elimination last night, Drew & Anna and Helio & Chelsie chatted first with On the Red Carpet:

They also chatted with Access Hollywood about their early ouster.  God love Helio, he has got to be one of the most gracious, positive people I think we’ve ever had on the show – he seems to be taking it all in stride and is just grateful for the opportunity to return.  Drew seems to be taking it a little bit harder – even though I think he knew it was coming, doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt any less.  Anna also seems to be pretty upset about it.

The last stop of the evening was Jimmy Kimmel – by that point, I think everyone was getting a little tired & slap-happy and were just tryng to have fun :-P :

UPDATE: You can check out Drew & Anna, Helio & Chelsie getting interviewed by Ann Romney on GMA this morning here. I think the interview gets a little awkward & choppy due to the delay in the feed between NY & LA (and Ann just being kind of new at the whole interviewing thing), but Drew obviously has a bone to pick with the judges for their scores…can’t say I blame him.

I’m actually really sad to see these two go – they were two of the bright spots for me each week, even if they weren’t the best dancers, because I could tell they were working hard and having fun…unlike some others this season 8-O

Ok guys, I’m gonna enlist your help – if you happen upon any other elimination interviews that I haven’t already posted, go ahead and post the LINK ONLY (don’t embed it, it makes the comments go all wonky) in the comments section and I will add it.  I dunno how Vogue does it – I have a whole new appreciation for how thorough and comprehensive her coverage is.  I can barely keep up! :-P

SPOILERS!!! DWTS All Stars Week 3 – Who Got the Boot??

Big night tonight….lots of stuff happened. Dances revealed for next week, and two people went home. Who was it??

First, Drew Lachey went home…the Helio went home.  And guess who was in the bottom three with them! Sabrina and Louis. Calm that ego down, kids. :-)

How did the Pure Crew do??

Heidi: Picked Drew and Helio for elimination.

Courtney: Drew and Helio

Vogue:  Bristol and Drew.

Vogue? What’s going on, girl – your track record was stellar last season?? :-)

Sherri Shepherd Reviews DWTS Iconic Night On GMA, Cast Parties At Mixology

Sherri Shepherd reviewed the dances on Good Morning America today!! Kelly and Val “wowed” her the most….not just because Val was her partner last season, but, for how good they were. Melissa and Tony impressed her too. She takes Bristol’s side in the fight with she and Mark. Sherri also doesn’t think Mark and Bristol are going home tonight. You can watch Sherri’s interview and review on the night in more detail at Good Morning America here.

Also, Henry of PopTVDotCom has some fun coverage of the cast going to an After party at Mixology. Several of them comment on how nervous they are for tonight’s double elimination. They all look stylish as ever.

Stay tuned. Heidi’s Numbers post is next and who she thinks will be eliminated!! I think Marianya might have some goodies for you too coming up. ;)

DWTS All Stars, Week 3 – Dancing by the Numbers

Anyone else find it somewhat (ok, not at all) coincidental that the two women likely in the most trouble with voters were also at the top of the leaderboard, yet had dances that were not even close to tied for the best of the night?? Don’t get me wrong, I like both Melissa and Kelly very much, but even with docked points for breaking the rules, Shawn and Apolo belong at the top of the leaderboard. The only thing that comes to my mind is that they are doing fine in votes, and Melissa and Kelly both need protection from Kirstie and Bristol. Why do they warrant protection and Drew and Helio don’t?? Well…Drew and Helio don’t work for ABC. Melissa and Kelly (and Gilles) both do work for ABC.  There are no coincidences.  Sure, Apolo and Shawn are likely fine – but it chaps my ass that for two weeks in a row Apolo has gotten screwed and this week Shawn joins him. There is no way – no way – that either Melissa or Kelly deserve to be a full point and a half ahead of Apolo.  I say, give them each a 25.5 or 26, Apolo a 27 or 28 and Shawn a 27 (only because she broke the rules).

Note to Mark, Louis and Maks – Derek is the example that you all should look to when being chastised for breaking the rules. All Derek and Shawn wanted from Len was the admission that he liked the dance very much. That is telling. They both knew full well they were going to be docked – the only question was by how much.  I’m still in awe of how much air Derek got when doing the jump split or whatever it’s called. He got higher than Shawn did! As for Apolo – honey, sexy ain’t work for you, you is HOT. Ten times hotter than Gilles. Not like that is a stretch this season. :-)

ANYway, let’s analyze who has the best shot of sticking around and who…doesn’t.

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Well, I hate to say it, but barring a miracle, I think Drew might be toast. That makes me sad, because I like Drew, and Bristol? Not so much. Kirstie only needs one more vote than him and Bristol needs a number that she easily got over him once before.  I have a hard time imagining a scenario where she doesn’t do it again, especially since I think most viewers are going to view her with sympathy, thanks to how the show aired the footage last night. Anyway, let’s look at what Bristol has to do to stick around. She needs TWO of the following:

–          Bristol needs 5,400 more votes per million votes cast than either Kirstie or Drew, OR;

–          Bristol needs 9,000 more votes per million votes cast than Emmitt, OR;

–          Bristol needs 10,800 more votes per million votes cast than EITHER Gilles, Sabrina, Helio or Apolo, OR;

–          Bristol needs 14,400 more votes per million votes cast than Shawn, OR;

–          Bristol needs 16,200 more votes per million votes cast the either Kelly or Melissa.

Hmmm….looking at it like that, I’m not entirely sure that Kelly or Melissa are safe. But they probably are – I think Drew is toast in this scenario. The question is – who else is toast?? Bristol, as the low scorer, needs to jump over TWO people in order to stay, not just one.  Boy oh boy – tonight could be interesting. My gut tells me that since Helio already made a trip to the bottom two, that he’s the likely second eliminee (sorry Brooke). Emmitt might be over rated with the audience, or one of the top three could be in trouble simply out of fans certainty that they are safe.  Or it could be someone else in the middle of the pack.  Anyway… Read more..

PureDWTS Season 15 Week 3: Media And Interviews After The Iconic Dances

It’s media time after the dance on Dancing With The Stars! What a night!! I’m still so blown away by Derek & Shawn’s performance…and what about Kelly & Val (the dark horse!! Or is the dark horse Melissa and Tony?) and Apolo & Karina? I could go on and on. Ok, let’s get some reactions from the couples with George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet and more….

First up, Kirstie and Maks. They talk of embracing their characters last night. Is Maks wearing a mouth piece? LOL to having a new respect for women because his make-up hurts everywhere. So funny.

Emmitt hopes the fans are voting. He and Cheryl don’t like being towards the bottom, but, they hope to just keep focusing on the dance. What’s important is that the fans are happy. They loved the audience reaction at the end of their dance. They can’t wait to have Paula Abdul as a judge next week.

Melissa doesn’t mind being compared to a Cola by Len. She’ll take any kind of compliment. Tony couldn’t be more proud of a partner as he is in Melissa. Practice was tough all week, but, it was worth it last night when the dance came together.

George highlights Bristol’s strength and ability to tell it like it is. She’s glad the rough week is over. They are still at the bottom and hope their fans will vote and keep them in. If they survive, Bristol is excited to see what dance the couples pick for them. George tries to get more from her, but, she won’t give it. She wants to keep things in perspective (I never know what she means when she says that?).

DWTS 15, Week 3 – Power Rankings

Well, it was a pretty loose definition of “Iconic Dance Week” – it was really more like “Pick an Iconic Dance with music you like and just reuse that” week.  There were gimmicks galore, and the judges giving quite possibly the MOST crack-addled scores I’ve ever seen – so basically, enough to give me a headache…which didn’t help other things going on in my household tonight.  Oh well…I’ll get on with it, so I can hopefully get it over with soon…

1.) Shawn & Derek – Rules be damned – I like this routine, dammit! And just as I suspected, Len backpedaled on his challenge to the couples to “push the envelope”, and docked them points for breaking hold…fickle much? Oh well – this was fun, high-energy, had a lot of great technique, and I thought Shawn & Derek appropriately fulfilled Len’s request to “show us thing we’ve never seen before”.  The trampolines enhanced the routine, rather than detracting from it – which is more than I can say for some of the other couples’ routines.  Overall, I think the judges must be getting a pretty decent share of votes, because the judges will gush about how great their routine is – and then will score is relatively harshly.  They must not be too afraid of her being a shock elim…but this crazy low-balling has GOT TO STOP before someone good is shockingly eliminated.

2.) Apolo & Karina – Best routine of the night for me, yet again – and yet again, GROSSLY underscored.  Seriously, WTF does Apolo have to do to get a decent score from the Three Stooges???  Balance a ball on his nose while doing the samba? Juggle flaming batons while holding Karina in a star lift? This is getting BEYOND ridiculous.  Apolo & Karina danced a foxtrot that was about as close to perfect as anyone got tonight – no fumbling, perfect timing, beautiful lines, smoldering chemistry, and an intriguing concept & choreography – and they got the same score as a crazy desperate guy that hung from the ceiling like Tinkerbell, a girl who dances about as delicately as a Mack truck, and a guy who almost dropped his partner.  Oh, and only 1/2 a point more than a guy who brought a donkey as a prop.  I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, people!!! Like Shawn, the only thing I can think of is that they are see Apolo as such a threat (between his dancing & his fanbase) that they’re trying to handicap him a bit by underscoring him.  I guess you can consider this my official endorsement of Apolo & Karina as the ones to beat this season – I’ll toss a few votes Drew & Helio’s way this week, but after they’re gone? It’s all Team OhYes for me… 8-)

3.) Kelly & Val – I gotta say – Kelly is doing FAR better than I would have expected.  Obviously the chemistry with Val is there ;-), but for the first half of the routine, I actually believed Kelly as a dancer – she was steady on her turns, was moving big, and had great musicality.  Then about halfway through the routine, reality kinda kicked in and Kelly seemed to lose focus – and that’s when some of the wobbling began.  I think she may have gotten a little dizzy trying to spot her turns (and it was actually a pretty damn good attempt), and never quite recovered from that – she seemed to get a little off-time and disoriented, and although she did a good job of soldiering on, she never seemed to regain the confidence and groove she had in the first half of the routine.  Overall, I liked it – but I think Kelly’s got some serious work to do before she actually deserves a 27.  I’m wondering if Kelly’s not quite generating the buzz they expected her to – and thus they’re trying to give her a leg up.  Guess I just can’t fathom how a routine that got that sloppy scored higher than the two best routines of the night for me.  I like Kelly, but that was overscored.

4.) Melissa & Tony – I do have to commend these two on one thing – they did a lot of basic samba steps, and also managed to pick a theme that didn’t seem to steal focus away from their actual dance.  And really, I liked the routine, overall – Melissa’s legs looked great, the energy was high, and I feel like it was a nice homage to JR’s samba.  However – Melissa still seems to move really softly to me.  She was shaking it – but she seemed to be shaking it GENTLY.  And her arms, while pretty, didn’t really seem that impactful.  So at the end of the day, I’m just kinda left without a whole lot to say about these two – other than the fact that they, too, were overscored, and maybe aren’t getting the love the judges feel they deserve…hence the cushy score to shield them a bit from elimination.  Another couple that I don’t really have any beef with – but I just can’t really get excited about, either.

5.) Sabrina & Louis – As expected, Sabrina hit every step with a sledgehammer in this paso doble – and I think she may have backslid in week 1 territory a bit, when she was hitting everything so hard that she actually got a little off-balance.  There were a couple steps that came out looking kind of wonky, and I don’t know if Sabrina just didn’t hit them right, or if they were just odd to begin with.  I was actually a little underwhelmed by the choreography, on the whole – Sabrina was hitting it hard and with a lot of attack, but the steps themselves were just…meh.  I feel like she could have handled something quite a bit more intricate, and instead Louis gave her stuff that just felt more kindergarten-y to me.  Relative to everyone else tonight, I actually think Sabrina was scored about right – and I think she ought to be safe from tomorrow’s double chop-chop. But Louis has got to reign in all that energy she dances with…ooh wee.

6.) Gilles & Peta – Now for a couple that I must CONDEMN instead of commend for their choice of theme – ok, was it just me, or did the bit with Gilles suspended above the dance floor have absolutely NOTHING to do with the tango that followed, and just kinda looked odd & out-of-place? It was a stunt for stunt’s sake – and I hate those.  Add to that the fact that the choreography of the tango was just kinda ho-hum & ordinary for me, and Gilles was just being kind of a d-bag again, and I’m left unimpressed by this one.  Gilles should be frustrated – with himself, because that desperation to win is seriously starting to mess with his actual dancing.  And he should be happy that the judges were feeling rather benevolent tonight, because I really would have given this routine more like a 23 or 24.  But I did see a glimmer of hope tonight: the dew seems to be wearing off the rose a bit where Gilles is concerned, for the judges.  They seemed less hesitant to critique him tonight than they did in weeks 1 & 2, and I think he may have realized he was getting a little carried away.  Or at least I hope he realized he was getting carried away…

7.) Kirstie & Maks – Sorry, but as highly amused as I was to see Maks doing the Mick Jagger chicken strut around the ballroom in some absurdly tight pants and a wig that would make the Beegees jealous, I found that the real star of this routine was Maks – which kind of defeated the purpose of the celeb being the focal point.  :-) Maybe Kirstie wanted it that way, perhaps to detract from the fact that she really wasn’t moving much at all – but I just kind of found the whole thing to be more style than substance.  I think part of the appeal of the original was that it was a terrible dance, but Carson did it with such gusto and personality that it became a showstopper.  This…was less of a train wreck, but felt a lot more low-energy, too.  They weren’t messing anything up, and everything was on-time…but it just felt half-assed to me.  Like they were dancing it for camera blocking instead of the actual performance.  Was it fun? Sure…but I was just left kinda wanting more.  Kirstie’s more than likely got the votes to survive tomorrow’s elimination, but I think she should really start focusing more on the content of her routines…because at this point, I feel like Bristol actually has more difficult steps than she does.  Yikes.

8.) Emmitt & Cheryl – For someone that came out as strong as he did the first week, I feel like the Emmitt we saw then has been replaced by a much lower-budget generic one…that hasn’t had the same zing the past two weeks.  I guess this routine was kind of fun to watch…in the same semi-trainwrecky way that Kirstie’s was.  But like Kirstie, I just feel like Emmitt’s not quite operating at 100% – he’s having fun, and he’s not really doing BAD, per se, but he’s also just not up to par with the likes of Shawn, Apolo, Sabrina, or even Gilles.  I think the troupe guys at the table in the background were more of a distraction than an enhancement, unfortuantely (expect to see them in the cheese…fer reals), and they actually seemed to be more energetic than Emmitt himself was.  But I did get kind of a kick out of the pencil slide he did at the end :-P Do I think Emmitt’s safe this week? Yeah.  Is he living up to the hype I saw about him in the pre-season? NO WAY.  He, like Kirstie, also needs to step it up if he wants to stand a chance up against the powerhouses this season. Charm will only take him so far!

9.) Bristol & Mark – For as terrible as their rehearsal package was (and how dumb they were for picking the famed “futuristic paso doble” to recreate) – I actually don’t think this was the worst routine of the night, in terms of technique.  I think Kirstie & Emmitt (and maybe Helio) have that one covered.  When Bristol’s actually trying (and NOT breaking rules), she’s actually not bad – I felt like she moved more than both Kirstie & Emmitt, and with more conviction.  But man – after seeing that package, the mood on the dance floore between Bristol & Mark was positively CHILLING. As in “I don’t even want to look at you, get this f%$ker away from me!” chilling.  And unfortunately, I think that may have negated really any positives they had in terms of technique – even though they were chess pieces and were supposed to be at war, the mood didn’t feel warlike & aggressive to me…it felt sullen and detatched.  All that aside – I’m left a bit uncertain about how the big blowup is going to affect Bristol & Mark’s chances of surviving the elim…if it even affects it at all.   Part of me thinks it may actually garner some sympathy votes – part of me hopes it turned enough people off of Bristol completely, so that she tumbles into the bottom 2.  But I’m preparing myself to see her sullen face yet again next week – although I’m hoping that whoever picks her dance sticks her with jive.  Mwahahaha…

10.) Helio & Chelsie – Another couple that should thank their lucky stars that the judges were feeling benevolent tonight – although in the end, I doubt it’s going to matter much, since it’s a double elim tomorrow night and I’m pretty sure these two will make a repeat appearance in the bottom 2.  Helio’s a complete joy to watch – that big goofy grin as he’s bouncing around in his zoot suit just makes me all warm & fuzzy inside :-D But on a night where everyone was pulling out all sorts of bells & whistles & crazy choreo, is a “just ok” quickstep with pretty safe choreography (and a rather noticeable gaffe) going to be enough to keep him safe? I don’t know.  He might get a bit of a surge in votes from his appearance in the bottom 2 last week, but I’m not sure it will be enough to keep him out of the bottom 2.  I’m leaning towards no, and that makes me sad :-( But I think Helio has had the right attitude about this season – have as much fun as possible and don’t hone in too hard on the win.  You listening, Gilles?

12.) Drew & Anna – I think this is one couple that just kinda got dealt a crap hand this whole season – not much love from the judges, some chemistry issues, and just some bad logistics (running order, music, etc.) I think tonight was a bad night to go first – even though I generally enjoyed their cha-cha, and liked that they didn’t seem to let the props dominate it.  Drew did get a little bit sloppy at times, and I think he & Anna may have gotten out-of-sync on some of the open choreography, but I definitely like it more than at least 3 of the other routines I saw tonight.  But in the end, will it really matter? Doubtful, considering that 3 of the 4 couples comprising the bottom 2 in the first two weeks were “middle of the road” couples that did neither good nor bad – and tonight, Drew got kinda low-balled.  At this point, I think he may be a bit out of his element – and maybe it’s time for him to go.  I still think there are 2 (maybe 3) other contestants that should be leaving BEFORE him, but I’m getting to the point where I’d hope that his scores would be improving a bit more.  Oh well – it’s been fun, Drew.  You seem to have brought out a more laid-back Anna :-)

So what did you guys think of “Iconic Dances” night? Love it? Hate it? Who’s going home???
