DWTS Sherri Shepherd: The View And Dress Rehearsal Interview With Val Chmerkovskiy (Videos)

The View has released some backstage video of Sherri Shepherd dishing on her first rehearsals. She says she’s been rehearsing for “weeks”…”every day for five hours”…and even on Saturdays and Sundays (one eye raises up. I’m not saying a word). Val is diplomatic and says she’s absolutely wonderful even though she keeps stepping on his feet and hitting him in the face. She wants her dancing to speak for itself and her work put into it. More below on the dancing shoes she’s collected, the costuming (Courtney, you will love this part being she mentions the Niecy Nash promo dress), and lots more.

Adding: And below is a new dress rehearsal interview with her and Val. Let’s hope we get more of these soon with the other couples….

DWTS14 Maksim Chmerkovskiy Dishes On Melissa Gilbert And Sizes Up The Competition (Video)

Maks was interviewed by Access Hollywood today. They start out by asking him if he’s got a shot at winning the mirror ball this season (while new dress rehearsal costume footage plays in the background of he and Melissa). Maks says he feels like he has a shot every season. His first thought upon seeing Melissa is that she was in great shape. His second thought was that he no idea who she was. Melissa gave him a box DVD set of Little House On The Prairie and told him if he did something, he had to watch it for punishment (lol). He says she is much like Kirstie Alley with her humor. Her dancing is good and she is “determined.” Maks talks of the competition as well saying Urkel is the one to beat. Martina and Tony will be “classy” and “competitive”. Lots more below. I love the part at the end when he mentions how he re-evaluated his life and behaviors from last season.

Martina Navratilova Interviewed By Yahoo! Sports Radio About Tennis And Dancing With The Stars

Steve Czabon of Yahoo Sports Radio interviewed Martina Navratilova. She and Tony will be rehearsing where she lives in Aspen, Colorado this week. They talk of her tennis accomplishments. She recalls her 74 wins in a row, etc. and her commitment and will to “prepare”. She says “winning” hasn’t been as important as “always doing and giving her best” which she plans to give to the dance floor. She would rather ‘play well and lose’ versus ‘playing lousy and win’.

Martina mentions Chris Evert and says she wouldn’t have been as good of tennis player without her and vice versa for how they “pushed” each other at the time. Chris was also one of the first of her friends to tweet and text her to tell her she was ‘a brave woman’ for doing Dancing With The Stars and wished her luck.

On why she decided to do Dancing With The Stars, Martina says the show has been asking her to dance for a number of years and Martina always said “no”. She’s always loved to dance, but, in heels and in front of people was one of her greatest fears. As an Ambassador to AARP, she’s always encouraging people to get out of their comfort zone and facing your fears, so she decided to do the same (“walk the talk”) and be an example by finally saying “yes” to Dancing With The Stars.

Martina also raves about Tony Dovolani in the interview and how fantastic he is. She’s “embracing” everything about dancing on the show …even the heels.

As for the other cast members, she thinks they are all terrified and the playing field is pretty even.

So far, Martina and Tony have been rehearsing 3-4 hours a day for 6 days a week. She discusses the differences between dancing and playing tennis so far.

Lots more of this super interview with Martina here.

Personal note: It’s interesting she and Tony are rehearsing in Aspen, Colorado this week. Let’s just say, living and training in “higher elevations” can have it’s advantages when it comes to sports, etc. šŸ˜€

ADDING: By the way, Howard Stern made a recent crack about Martina wearing a suit instead of dress on Dancing With The Stars. Below is how she replied. From USA Today. I’m loving this…

The tennis legend has responded with a tweet that may further pique Stern’s curiosity.

“I hear my favorite radio guy Howard is wondering whether I will wear pants or a dress,” wrote Navratilova. “Howard — expect the unexpected!!”

Navratilova also addressed the general expectation that she won’t perform all that well: “So I hear I am the underdog for winning dwts. Been a while since I’ve been an underdog, but that’s cool. We will be ready come the 18th!”

Katherine Jenkins Says Doing Dancing With The Stars Is Out Of Her Comfort Zone

More on Katherine Jenkins!! She tells the New York Post that she’s a little nervous as she begins rehearsals with Mark Ballas to dance on Dancing With The Stars. Below is what she told them on Friday…

ā€œI start my first day of training tomorrow, Mark is coming over here for a week of rehearsals. While I am so excited to be part of the show, I am a little nervous because I donā€™t yet know what I am letting myself in for.ā€ While being used to the discipline of voice training, ā€œThis is something out of my comfort zone, it will be a challenge and hopefully something I will enjoy. I am ready for a challenge. I just hope I am physically up for the challenge.ā€

Two more weeks, All!! You ready yet? šŸ˜‰

DWTS Media Mentions On Derek Hough, Maria Menounos, and Gavin DeGraw (Photos)

Bella NYC has named Dancing With The Stars pro Derek Hough as one of their sexiest men of 2012. They write how Derek’s “grounded sense of self and unwavering passion” and “thoughtful, deliberate, and somewhat soft-spoken” qualitites landed him in their list of most sexy. In a new interview with Derek with them, he describes what “beauty” is to him in a woman. He also dishes a little on his new movie and his new love for the Argentine Tango and why. More in some takes below. You can read more at Bella NYC.

His definition of beauty: Talent, ambition and character. ā€œOh, and humor,ā€ he adds. ā€œSomeone who is talented, funny, ambitious and overall very comfortable in their own skin and self, and happy with who they are, is very beautiful to me.ā€

Hough, whoā€™s starring in a new movie ā€œCobuā€ due out this fall, says he was born to entertain. ā€œIā€™ve always been interested in many art forms. I was just watching some old home videos that my dad pulled out. In one from when I was 5 years old, I was going to town, dancing like nobodyā€™s business. I started dance classes at 10 or 11, but had been dancing all my life, just for fun.ā€

His current favorite dance is the Argentine Tango; one that Hough says is relatively new to him. ā€œGrowing up and competing, that dance wasnā€™t one of ā€˜my things,ā€™ I wasnā€™t taught it, I recently had to teach myself. And as of late, Iā€™ve grown to love it. I love dances that are passionate, intense, sexy and dark; I gravitate toward those. I wonder what that says about my character?ā€ (laughs)

Speaking of Derek and dancing, be sure you visit Pure Derek Hough. Heidi has some great new videos of Derek and pics of he and Maria going to practice. She’s also got details on dance partner Maria Menounos’ “After Buzz TV” site where she plans to have a Dancing With The Stars after party every week after the show. Heidi has also started a “Team Menough” t-shirt contest which is always fun! Be sure to take part and/or watch it all go down in the coming days. There are some really talented dance fans out there that amaze!!

Also, below is Maria arriving at LAX yesterday. She and Season 14 Dancing With The Stars opponent, Gavin DeGraw (also pictured below), attended the ‘Escape To Total Rewards’ in New Orleans, Louisiana Friday night. You can see more pictures at Zimbio.

Green Bay Packer Donald Driver’s Dancing With The Stars Work Ethic Described As “Insane”

It sounds like Donald Driver is giving it all he’s got learning how to dance for Dancing With The Stars? A dancing source told TMZ that his “work ethic is insane.”. More in a take below.

According to sources, Donald’s been working non-stop — practicing with his partner for 5 hours at a time … then going home and studying dance moves on YouTube.

We’re told Donald pays especially close attention to the male pros — intently studying their moves and their footwork … just like a football player would study tapes of old games.

According to sources, Donald’s goal is to dance at the pro level — not just the “celebrity” level.

We’re told Donald is so focused on being at the top of his game — he’s even keeping his pro partner Peta Murgatroyd on a strict diet.

LOL to keeping Peta on a strict diet. Anyway, I’m so glad Peta has a partner who is so serious about this competition.

Melissa Gilbert Ready To Get Out Of Her Comfort Zone On Dancing With The Stars And More

The New York Post posted an article and video interview yesterday with Maks and Melissa. Melissa talks of how nervous she was before finding out about her new partner on Dancing With The Stars. She was so relieved when it was told she was dancing with Maks for who she wanted. She’s ready for the challenge to “follow” his instructions instead of “lead” like she has done so much of in the past. She wants to learn to be the best dancer and will do whatever it takes and do what he says, but, he’s leery and hopes it will be that way down the line. She also says she’s not allowed to talk during rehearsal….”just a little bit”, Maks remarks. They also laugh a lot. Maks also dishes about how he was one of the first to know he was dancing this season. He couldn’t believe all the rumors before the cast announcement that he wouldn’t. Lots more HERE.

PureDWTS 14 If Only I Could Get Into The Mind Of Martina Navratilova To See How It Ticks

There are a couple of good reads on Martina Navratilova out there about her dancing on Dancing With The Stars. Since I’m a tennis fan and I’ve always been fascinated with the way Martina could out mental her opponents on the tennis court, I’m especially curious and fascinated to know if she’ll bring that same fierceness and wicked determination and intensity to the dance floor? When Martina has taken on something in the past, she goes full bore physically and mentally. I also love it when women who are in their 50’s and 60’s+ are still very much out there physically and mentally keeping up with people half their age and still very much having something to say. What’s more and for those that don’t know, Martina has recently had a bought with Breast Cancer and she broke her arm playing ice hockey. 2010 wasn’t a very good year for her as you can read for all the things that happened to her in a take below from Hello Magazine.

It has certainly been an eventful year for the 53-year-old.

“First, I broke my arm in January playing ice hockeyā€¦ Then my tooth fell out as I was flying to Europe with my arm in a cast. It was really comical,” she reveals.

“Then I get cancer and it was only February, and I’m like, oh my God, maybe I should stay in my house and not do anything, this is not looking so good. But the arm healed up, the tooth is fine and I’m cancer free. But it’s been a trying year to say the least.”

Martina, who refused to let her diagnosis affect her work schedule over Wimbledon fortnight this year, has also opened up about one of the devastating side-effects of cancer treatment.

“I couldnā€™t find a pair of jeans one morning and I started crying. I thought what the Hell is the matter with me?… I just didnā€™t want to get out of bed.

“And then I felt empathetic to people who have depression because now I know what they go through. Only Iā€™m sure itā€™s much much worse because I did get out of bed, I did play tennis and I was working, but for me, I wasn’t myself. I was flat as a pancake (emotionally); I just didnā€™t care.”

As for Dancing With The Stars and according to WoKay.com, Martina is “adamant and determined to hit the show with vigor and conviction.” She still considers herself “young and enthusiastic” despite her hardships recently and she knows dancing won’t be easy. Below is more, but, be sure to read the link for the full story. I love what she says on age and having a passion for learning….

Previously she was seen on British reality show ā€˜Iā€™m A Celebrity, Get Me out of Hereā€™. Navratilova has told in an interview that she has started learning new techniques of the dancing skills which she would be using in the upcoming dancing show.

Many other tennis stars such as Martina Hingis, Monica Seles and Todd Woodbridge too have shown their dancing expertise on various British, American and Australian versions of this dancing show. On ABC, the new season will begin airing and the masses have fastened the belts to sail through the waves.

Well, Martina is considered to be the most senior participant on the show. She says that whether you are 55 or 85, the age doesnā€™t matter, you have to have passion for learning and that she has in plenty.

Martina tells the New York Post that dancing is on her bucket list. Below are some quotes for more of why she decided to dance and facing her fears….

ā€œMy strength is that I am an athlete, I am used to doing things over and over and (I have) body control.ā€

ā€œThis is a big fear for me to dance in front of other people,ā€ Navratilova tells The Post. ā€œBut I always wanted to learn how to dance. I was just too shy to do it. So I figured just jump in with two feet.ā€

So, what do you think? Will Martina be a force to be reckoned with physically and mentally on the dance floor as she approached her tennis game? I think so and I can’t wait to see. šŸ™‚
