DWTS All Stars Las Vegas Odds After Announcement Of Wildcard Couple

So, now that the 13th couple has been announced for the Dancing With The Stars All Star Season, let’s see what the odds makers in Las Vegas have to say about it. Below is a run down of the Las Vegas Odds from a previous posting when we first found out who would be dancing. After that is the NEW Las Vegas Odds from Sports Bovada. Note how they still have Pamela coming in last. They’ve also lowered Bristol and Melissa. Helio and Apolo have been switched around with Apolo at the top.

First preliminary Las Vegas Odds the before 13th couple was announced:

Helio Castroneves 9/2
Apolo Anton Ono 5/1
Emmitt Smith 6/1
Shawn Johnson 6/1
Drew Lachey 7/1
Joey Fatone 7/1
Kelly Monaco 15/2
Gilles Marini 10/1
Kirstie Alley 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 12/1
Bristol Palin 15/1
Kyle Massey/Sabrina Bryan/Carson Kressley 20/1
Pamela Anderson 25/1

New preliminary Las Vegas Odds AFTER the 13th couple was announced:

Apolo Anton Ono 9/2
Helio Castroneves 5/1
Emmitt Smith 6/1
Shawn Johnson 6/1
Drew Lachey 15/2
Joey Fatone 15/2
Gilles Marini 9/1
Kirstie Alley 14/1
Kelly Monaco 15/1
Sabrina Bryan 15/1
Melissa Rycroft 18/1
Bristol Palin 25/1
Pamela Anderson 40/1

So, do the odds makers have it right or wrong?

I think they have Helio way too high. He should be more towards the bottom. I also think they are underestimating Gilles. They are underestimating Pamela as well. I think Kirstie is going to be more of a force than many realize too. Let’s get my sistah’s thoughts because they are ‘in the know’ if you know what I mean. :D Be sure you let us know your thoughts too in the comment section.

Courtney: They still have Helio too high.  I get it, he’s a fun, popular guy - but in a sea of fantastic dancers? He’s gonna look a bit weak.  And I wouldn’t underestimate the comedic appeal of a sultry American bombshell paired with a modest, boy-next-door Irishman ;-) Not so sure why they have Kelly so high – are they banking on her soap opera fanbase to pull her through? Because I doubt it’s going to be her dance skills keeping her around…and judging from what I’ve seen so far, she also seems to have a bit of a lack of motivation to really get competitive.  Emmitt? Also too high – I think that, like Helio, they’re banking on his personality carrying him through, and seem to forget that he maybe wasn’t the strongest champion we’ve had and he’s also in his 40′s now…with a lifetime of football injuries under his belt.  I actually think they have Gilles about right – I don’t think he’s going to do as well this season as we may have originally thought, based on the fact that he seems a bit bummed about not getting his preferred partner…and the jury’s still out on his actual partner’s choreographic skills.

Heidi: I think just about the ONLY thing they’ve gotten right is Apolo at the very top (although he may not actually win) and the first five eliminations (although not necessarily in that order)…sort of. I think Helio is way too high, as is Emmett. I kind of agree with where they put Gilles, too.  More because he seems to have Brandy-itis this time around – that is, an extreme desire to WIN at all costs. That’s off putting to a lot of people.  Including me, and I love Gilles. He needs to RELAX.  I don’t know who will be the first person out, but I do think it will be one of those bottom five women they have listed…and I think they might be about right with Kirstie as well.  What you have to think about in this instance is not JUST the ability of a given dancer, but the ability and fanbase of all the other dancers on the show at the same time. That’s why I’m not sure that Kirstie is going to get anywhere near the final, let alone the top five,  and that Helio and Emmett are over rated. That’s also why it’s very possible that Pam could be the first out, followed by Kelly, Melissa and Sabrina.  But really – this season is going to be difficult to predict.  The test of any fanbase on this show will be how they survive not being at the top of the leader board. It could be as simple as “you’re at the bottom, you’re out” – and I think that could apply to several of our celebrities this time around. The ones that I think NEED to not be at the bottom of the leaderboard the first week are Pam, Bristol, Kelly, Helio and maybe Drew.

I'm a fashion and music nut....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Derek Hough (one of my favorite dancers) said at a recent Get Healthy event that ‘dancing’ is an outward expression of what is going on inside you. He says that in some ways, everyone dances and it's so true. To TPTB, how about this song for next season's theme song? Robin G Ft. Wilunleashed - A Good Time (Original) // Download High Quality

DWTS “Who Wore it Better?” – The Pre-Season 15 All-Star Edition, Part I!

This season, we opted to do things a bit differently – as we have with just about every other regular feature we do each season, since the format is a bit wacky, to say the least :-P First, we’ve divided WWIB into two parts – mainly to accomodate the fact that Kirstie & Maks’ and the 13th couple’s (who we now know to be Sabrina & Louis) promo photos have yet to be released, but also to buy us some time for the labor-intensive task of finding good pictures for some of these :-) Secondly, we’ve included the couples’ promo photos from their original seasons for comparison as well.  But as always, we’ve offered up our usual snark commentary on each of the costumes, for your enjoyment 8-)

Battle of the turquoise & black lace corset dress/Kelly & Alec vs. Kelly & Val:  Kelly & Alec’s season 1 promo pic vs. Kelly & Val’s season 15 promo pic vs. Edyta in the season 9 pro tango demo

Courtney: The Iceman cometh! Wow, even Alec’s promo pic screams “I have no emotions” to me.  And while Kelly is a bit better, I still wish she’d actually smile in her promo pics – the whole “smoldery non-smile” she does just seems like she’s trying too hard to me.  And I’m probably the only one that feels this way, judging from some of everyone’s initial comments on the promo photos, but I’m not really all that wild about Kelly & Val’s pic…you’ll see I’m not much of a fan of the couples that went the “smoldery” route with their promo pix.  As for the costume itself – gotta go with Edyta on this one.  Granted, it’s hard to hold a candle to Edyta in pretty much ANY costume, but I think I like it better with a lace skirt, as opposed to a fringed one.  And while I was cursing under my breath while putting this edition together about how BAD some of the costumes have gotten since Randall left, I thank my lucky stars we’re not still stuck with Designs to Shine, who costumed the first season. Can we say “tacky”? 8-O

Heidi: Val sez, “You…are sooo sexy.” To which Kelly sez, “You are sexy, but I am sleeping with my cousin’s best friend’s husband’s brother and am simply toying with you as a cover to hide our true looove….” That is my long winded way of saying, Kelly is a soap actress…they only do smolder.  Sometimes well, sometimes not – and Val is a huge step up from Alec in terms of emotion and Kelly has evolved to smoldering with her mouth *closed*. :-) The dress you ask? I go with Edyta sans fishnets.  Although I think it’s cuter in the shorter length.

The verdict: Just say no to soap opera smolder.  Read more..

Dancing With The Stars All Star Title Shoot Interviews And ABC Title Shoot Promo (Videos)

Thanks to Access Hollywood today, here are some interviews that took place during the Dancing With The Stars All Star Title shoots a couple of weeks ago. These are great. If they post more, we’ll be sure to add them. Also, before you watch the interviews below, be sure you see THIS ABC TITLE SHOOT PROMO TOO!! A MUST!!! Ok, onto the Access Hollywood interviews. If for some reason the videos don’t work, you can see them at Access Hollywood.

First, Mark and Bristol talk of the trainwrecks they had the first time they danced. Mark is excited for how great Bristol looks this time. He says they will take it week by week and will look forward to each challenge. Bristol thinks that’s the best attitude to have going into it.

Here is Chelsie and Helio! Helio discusses the good shape he’s in since he’s been racing. Hopefully, this will give him an edge in the competition. Chelsie is confused about what kind of racer he is.

Being Melissa is a mother now, she has her priorities, but, she’s hoping to dance well. She wants to stay healthy and not break Tony’s nose again. Tony wants them to challenge themselves. They are the underdogs and he wants the fans and the judges behind them.

Pamela says she’s looking forward to being put into uncomfortable postitions again. 8O Tristan giggles. She can still do the splits. Tristan keeps giggling. They are excited to be dancing together.

You can see Pamela and Tristan dancing in this one (Thanks for the heads up JustMe)….

Dancing with the Stars 2012 Emmy Nominations!!

And the nominees are….

OUTSTANDING HOST

TOM BERGERON
Cat Deely
Phil Keogan
Ryan Seacrest
Betty White

Jeff Probst not nominated and he usually wins. I would say Tom or Cat were a shoe in, if not for Betty White.

OUTSTANDING REALITY PROGRAM

DANCING WITH THE STARS
So You Think You can Dance
The Amazing Race
Top Chef
Project Runway
The Voice

TAR wins this one every season.

OUTSTANDING CHOREOGRAPHY

Travis Wall, Without You (DWTS)
Stacey Tookey, SYTYCD
Christopher Scott, SYTYCD
Spencer Liff, SYTYCD
Joshua Bergnasse, Smash

I don’t know whether to rant about this now or save it for later. I KNEW when they had Travis on DWTS that our choreographers were going to get shut out of this category. I predicted it back when the show was on this last season. Let’s just say I’m pissed off at this nomination and I’m pissed off at this category – it is unbelievably slanted toward anything that is not ballroom. They didn’t even list the nomination ballots on the website like they did for everything else. I spent a long time looking for it.

OUTSTANDING HAIR STYLING FOR A MULTI CAMERA SERIES OR SPECIAL

DWTS for episode 1407 (season 14, week 7)

OUTSTANDING LIGHTING DESIGN FOR A VARIETY SERIES

DWTS for Episode 1307

OUTSTANDING MAKE UP FOR A MULTI CAMERA SERIES

DWTS for Episode 1307

OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL DIRECTION, CAMERAWORK, VIDEO CONTROL FOR A SERIES

DWTS for Episode 1410A

That one makes me chuckle a bit, considering how often Courtney and I put camera gaffes in our Cheesecake Awards. :-D

That was all the nominations I saw – now Vogue will go behind me and make sure I didn’t leave anything or anyone out. And look at the Choreo again, would ya?? I think it drove me temporarily insane and I might have missed something. :-)

UPDATE: Vogue here with some Emmy nomination reactions from Tom Bergeron, Travis Wall, and the Dancing With The Stars Make-Up Team….

Tom tweeted, “Probst will still find a way to win this thing!” He’s a crack up as always.

From ET, Travis Wall said, “I can’t believe that our dance company’s (Shaping Sound) first performance on TV got an Emmy nomination. I am elated! It’s amazing to have a nomination two years in a row but it’s surreal to have this nomination with my best friends!”

Also, from the Dancing With The Stasrs Make-up Team at facebook, they wrote: “Great news today! The Dancing with the Stars Makeup Team has been nominated for an Emmy Award!!! We hope to bring it home for a 2nd time. Please wish us luck!!!”

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS 14 End-of-Season Award Winners: What Was the Biggest Controversy?

Other responses:

All of the above/any combination of the above answers – 17 (Sorry guys, too many different combos to list them individually!)

Derek & Maria’s kiss – 1

William & that stupid running & sliding move in every single dance – 1 (Annoying, yes, but is it really a “controversy”, per se?)

Katherine’s “injury” – 1

Derek’s behavior – 1

Cheryl’s Emmy-worthy creativity *sarcasm* – 1

None – 1

Rock & Roll Week – 1

Overstating Maria’s injuries, ribs NOT broken…hurt, yes, but not broken – 1

William wearing the same shirt in many different colors – 1 (Again, it’s annoying, but is it really controversial?)

Dance marathon – 1

Courtney: Again, it looks like we have several different interpretations of the term “controversy” here. I guess the way I interpret it within the context of the show, a “controversy” is something that occured that caused a great deal of debate and dissenting opinions on the issue – but maybe some other people interpret it as something that just really bugged them personally. I guess I need to be a bit more specific in my explanation of next season’s awards, perhaps along with eliminating the write-in category :-P Anywho! I think the results are about right on the money – I found the most prolonged, contentious, polarizing issue of the season was the question of whether or not William was getting unfairly favored by the judges and/or the TPTB, and just the judges being highly subjective in their scoring across the board.  I don’t think we’ve ever had a precedent for a situation like the one that unfolded this past season – I can’t recall a time in a past season where the judges were so blatantly displaying favoritism towards a certain contestant.  Granted, there is always some degree of subjectivity, and the judges do tend to pick favorites each season, but I don’t think we’ve seen it before to the degree that we did this season.  As for Jaleel’s behavior, the dance duel, & Cheryl’s behavior – yes, they all generated a great deal of debate and polarity in opinions, but perhaps weren’t as prolonged as the William/judges controversy.  As for the trio dance – I know some of you are probably balking at the notion of it being “controversial”, but I seem to recall quite a few debates about which couples would pick which pros and how it would be advantageous to some and a disadvantage for others, so there was at least a bit of controversy there.  Especially on the topic of who would get Tristan :-P

Vogue: I think this poll was spot on as well. As much as I loved William himself and his dancing too, the pimping was over the top. I was patient about it at first and could understand the interest in him being he was a new sexy Latin star to hit the Hollywood scene, but, the hype and the manipulation from the producers and the judges scoring and then Cheryl herself out of control took it’s toll on a great many of fans. Sadder yet, was that William himself could see it too and it wasn’t something he welcomed. I really admired his humbleness through out it all which made me a fan. I wish I could say the same for Cheryl. I’ve lost a lot of respect for her that I once had. I was also outraged with Jaleel’s behavior. I was so glad when he was finally picked to go.

Heidi: I think the top three were the only real controversies – and they were doozies. The rest? Nah.  And the write ins?? Some people need a little reality check.  :-)  Although I did snicker at the “emmy worthy creativity” one. :-)  Every season there is someone who is the judges favorite – but it’s usually someone who is the best dancer. Not this season. This season they had their favorite….and he was also pimped to high hell at every opportunity by the show itself. It was quite ridiculous.  Now can we go to my favorite moment of the season? Carrie Ann’s mouth falling open when said controversial dude took THIRD place. :-)  Anyway, after a while it seemed to be a highly orchestrated dance (pardon the expression) between production and judges to make sure this guy went to the finals. Of course, they seemed determined to get Katherine there as well (and keep Donald away), but it was at a much higher level with Willy…and Katherine could really DANCE. Madness.
