I'm a fashion and music nut....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Derek Hough (one of my favorite dancers) said at a recent Get Healthy event that ‘dancing’ is an outward expression of what is going on inside you. He says that in some ways, everyone dances and it's so true. To TPTB, how about this song for next season's theme song? Robin G Ft. Wilunleashed - A Good Time (Original) // Download High Quality

DWTS Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Peta Murgatroyd, and Val Chmerkovskiy Attend Z100′s Jingle Ball 2012

Don’t these three look like they are having fun? Dancing pros Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Peta Murgatroyd, and Val Chmerkovskiy attended Z100′s Jingle Ball 2012, presented by Aeropostale, at Madison Square Garden on December 7, 2012 in New York City. You can see more fun takes of them at Zimbio Pictures. You can read an article on the night and see a slideshow at iBTimes.

ADDING: Maks, Peta, and Val were interviewed by Extra at z100′s Jingle Ball. When asked, Maks says “no” to Honey Boo Boo dancing on Dancing With The Stars. He won’t dance with her or her relatives. He said neither one have earned that right and they need bigger stars. I agree.

ADDING #2: Below is another interview with Peta, Val, and Maks at the Jingle Ball. They talk to OK! about the finals and the length of the show. They aren’t the same people and are glad to have some time off from doing Dancing With The Stars and being home in New York City.

Adding A Younger Judge To Dancing With The Stars Judging Panel and More Rumors

Another day, more rumors to take with a grain of salt! This time an insider has told Hollywood Life that the producers of Dancing With The Stars are considering a younger judge for the panel and Derek Hough is a “favorite” to be one of them. Note how this source is also reporting that the show may be filmed one night in New York City in a future season.

“They want to skew younger as the seasons continue and are looking to potentially add a younger, well-named judge for the show. There have been no names thought of yet, [it's] just that they want to go younger.”

Like Paula Abdul did this past season, “They also have considered having guest judges to join the real judges from week to week.”

And here’s another shocker, “Not next season but in another future season, they are considering doing it in NYC!”

Derek Hough, who placed second in the All-star season, is a favorite for a new judge.

“Some of the dancers may remove themselves from the dancing part and may become judges themselves. The favorites like Derek have been considered for that type of role, but the Producers are aware that Derek gets celebrities to the show because they want to dance with him, so they are taking that under consideration moving forward as well.”

You can read the full article at Hollywood Life.

My thoughts if true (and that’s a big “if”)? I wouldn’t mind a younger judge added to the panel. Though really, I’d rather it be someone like SHIRLEY BALLAS instead. I also wish they’d replace Carrie Ann. Maybe they could replace Carrie Ann with Shirley and add a younger judge. I think Derek would do a super job, but, I’d rather see him dance or do movies, videos, music, and Broadway. Let’s see what Miss Heidi thinks….

Heidi: I think hell might freeze over before Derek sits in judgement of his former cast mates. He might do it for ONE night, but I just don’t see it. Not to mention that that was NOT in the list of things he recently gave a “next steps”. Yeah, he did say he would always be connected to the show in some way, but I don’t believe this is what he had in mind.  I think someone took the NY Post story (which was later modified), saw all the discussion around the next about needing new judges…and got creative.   All that said, I’m still not sure we need new judges as much as we need “judging RULES”. The dancers have rules…seems to me the judges should as well. And not those that they can disregard whenever they want….lookin’ at you, CAI, and your ridiculous, misused, lift rule.

No Indication To Believe Dancing With The Stars Won’t Be On Fall Schedule As Well As Spring

We touched a little on this subject the other day when Executive Producer Conrad Green talked about the dip in TV ratings and changing up Dancing With The Stars. Now the NY Post is reporting that producers are “talking” about only doing one show a year which would take place in the Spring. Though, the key word here is “TALKING”. This is not a done deal yet and I hope it’s not because, no matter what nay sayers and the media keep reporting with sensationalized headlining, etc., remember (as we have stressed to you over and over), Dancing With The Stars is still a Top 10 rated tv show. Also, all tv shows are down in numbers as Heidi has reported for several seasons now. Also note, that according to TV By The Numbers, the Dancing With The Stars All Stars was “Monday’s Most-Watched TV Program for 7 straight weeks in a row”. See,…it’s not all gloomy and doomy as many might think. Though that doesn’t mean there aren’t some changes needed….but, in my opinion, cutting the show to only one season a year isn’t the answer….not yet, anyway. Why not get to the root of the issues instead like crazy storyboarding, axing theme weeks, improving judging, etc.? It might help to get bigger names to sing and perform on the results shows too? Look for Heidi’s thoughts below as well….

ABC may be passing on the paso doble for a while.

“Dancing With the Stars” is talking about airing just once each year, in the spring, a production source tells The Post.

“They have to figure something out,” the insider says. “Maybe change the judges. The show needs a total makeover.”

After 15 editions since 2005, the once-top-rated talent show took a beating in the ratings during its “All-Star” season, which ended last month.

The finale drew 16.7 million viewers — a huge audience by most TV standards, but down almost three million from a year ago.

Total viewership for the past season was off by 20 percent.

Bringing back past champs Shawn Johnson, Emmitt Smith, Drew Lachey and the like seemed like “a great idea,” Disney CFO Jay Rasulo admitted this week at a financial conference in New York.

“Turns out people didn’t want to see people who could dance. They wanted people who couldn’t dance,” Rasulo said.

”We haven’t made a decision about fall yet,” an ABC spokeswoman said last night, “but we have no indication that it won’t be on the schedule.

You can read more at the NY Post.

Heidi: Answer me this…how is it that The Amazing Race and Survivor BOTH have two seasons a year (and are possibly more expensive to produce) and have the same or lower ratings than DWTS??  Both shows do about the same in the key demo as DWTS and they are about ten spots BELOW DWTS in total viewers?? For that matter, there are scripted dramas which are MUCH more expensive to produce that aren’t doing as well in total viewers OR the Key demo (namely Hawaii 5-0) – they’re doing 24 episodes a season; four more than DWTS does in a year. Frankly, I think it’s possible that some media (including other websites) read things around the internet and start to internalize it as fact. Then get hysterical. If DWTS goes to one season a year, it will be because the producers choose to as a means of creating more excitement for the show when it IS on. But I don’t see that happening just yet. I could be wrong.  But, by all means – make some changes. Like, in terms of editing and judging. And “stars”.

Just a few TV heads up for the weekend! First, Cheryl Burke’s home will be featured in a “Celebrity Holiday Homes” special on HGTV at 8:00pm ET tonight (Friday). Below are some details from the TampaBay.com….

Celebrity Holiday Homes, 8 p.m., HGTV Three “celebrities” — Dee Snider, Cheryl Burke and Bebe Winans — get home makeovers. If they were actually celebrities, they wouldn’t need a TV show to redecorate their houses.

This isn’t Dancing With The Stars related, but, if you like “dancing” movies like I do (and holiday movies as well), you might be interested in watching this movie on Hallmark airing tomorrow night called “Come Dance With Me“….

Emmitt Smith Chats On Casting Football Players For Dancing With The Stars And More

Emmitt Smith tells the Huffington Post that he’s “not upset, only disappointed” that he didn’t win the All-Stars mirror-ball trophy. He also had some thoughts on casting future football players. For instance, below are his thoughts on Tim Tebow and Victor Cruz….

“I don’t think Tim Tebow would kill it. I don’t think he would do well on the dance floor. I think he would be limited. Victor Cruz might kill it. At least, he could salsa,” says Emmitt.

Speaking of football players on the show more generally, Emmitt said, “It opens another level of exposure I wouldn’t get from the game itself. When I was playing the game, I had a helmet on my head; people rarely saw my face. I think it’s a smart business move, but at the end of the day, you have to have some of the same qualities. I’m known as a champion on the football field, I wanted to be known as a champion in the ballroom. So you don’t want to just get in for the exposure, because you can be exposed positively or negatively.”

So true!! That goes for everyone too not just football players. If a celeb is going to dance, do it for the love of dance, not just for exposure. Also, bring on VICTOR CRUZ! :D

You can read more at the Huffington Post including Emmitt’s thoughts on White dancers versus Black dancers.
