DWTS Karina Smirnoff Attends Lucky Brand’s New Flag Store Opening, Information On New Movie Revealed

How does Karina Smirnoff look this time? The Dancing With The Stars pro attended the opening of Lucky Brand’s new flagship store at the Time Warner Center in New York City yesterday. From her sexy, lace sweater to her black and white pumps, I think she looks dazzling. You can see more photos of her at this event at Zimbio Pictures.

There has also been a little more revealed about her new movie with Dancing With The Stars season 12 partner, Ralph Macchio. US Weekly is reporting the movie is about a 10 year old boy who becomes fascinated with a beautiful older woman. The beautiful older woman will be played by Karina. Below are a few more details….

The dancer, 34, is currently filming a new movie written and directed by the actor, 51, about a 10-year-old boy who becomes fascinated with a beautiful yet troubled older woman he sees dancing in a neighboring house. Smirnoff plays the woman — and she couldn’t be more excited.

“It is a dream come true to have this opportunity in working with Ralph again,” she tells Us. “He wrote such an inspiring script, and I’m grateful to be a part of it. The story is sweet but profound, and my character is very compelling. I’m loving the process!”

Be sure to read the full article at US Weekly.

Sounds really cool. I can’t wait to see it!

PureDWTS Audience Casting Watch: Christie Brinkley, Danica McKellar, Adrienne Maloof….

Sometimes I have to wonder about the celebs who show up in the audience to watch Dancing With The Stars and if they might not be considering dancing on the show in the future? For instance, Emmitt Smith was in the audience for the Dancing With The Stars Season 14 finals (or was it the semi finals?). The next thing we know, he was picked to do the Dancing With The Stars All Stars season.

I also remember Christie Brinkley being in the audience for Season 14′s Semi Finals which brings me to this piece on Anderson Cooper yesterday with Christie doing a Samba with this season’s Dancing With The Stars All Star Gilles Marini.

Nice, huh? :)

During her run in “Chicago”, Access Hollywood asked Christie if she’d ever do Dancing With The Stars. She wouldn’t say yes or no. In fact, she said, “never say never”. She also said TPTB have asked her to do the show before, but, the timing has never been right.

While atttending “Chicago”, Kym Johnson said would like to see Christie dance and remarked “hopefully” Christie would do the show someday in this interview…. Read more..

DWTS Season 16 RUMOR: Emily Maynard To Dance On Dancing With The Stars?

We’ve been down this route before with Radar Online, so be sure you take this rumor with a grain of salt. I will say though that Emily Maynard has all the makings of fitting on Dancing With The Stars perfectly. Do you agree? Below is more from Radar Online via Star Magazine.

Emily Maynard is ditching her search for true love and putting on her dancing shoes to jive away her heartache!

The newly-single Bachelorette is officially locked in as a contestant on the upcoming 16th season of Dancing With The Stars, reveals the new issue of Star magazine, and while it is news to the fans of both ABC shows, Emily has known about it for six months!

“When she signed her contract to be on The Bachelorette, ABC also had her sign on to commit to doing Dancing with the Stars. She loves being in the limelight,” a source told Star, adding that while some of the other hoofers are desperate to land certain pros as their partners, all Emily seemingly cares about is dancing her way into a television career.

“Emily told me the real reason she wants to do the show is to help get herself her own talk show,” dished the insider. “She’s terrified of losing her fame. She loves being famous and has wanted it her entire life.”

You can read the full article at Radar Online. Picture above courtesy of Zimbio Pictures.

So, if true, who do you see Emily dancing with? I say MAKS!! :D

Heidi: You want to put sweet little Emily with Maks!?!? :-) How about Tristan?? Or Henry?? Or anyone other than Maks or Tony?? :-D Seriously, though – Radar Online went from having a great track record to bombing for a few seasons in a row. It would not surprise me in the slightest if Emily were to show up, but I kinda doubt it. Really, the producers need to get away from casting their family on this show and branch out. But hey, maybe Deena needs a new client. :::snort::: I would have to look, but I also think that “rumors” (or fabrications) that come out this far in advance usually turn out to be WRONG. We’ll see.

Vogue: Good point. I wouldn’t mind her paired with Tristan or Henry as well….and Derek (yes, I still hope he will change his mind and come back? :( )

Heidi: NO DEREK! I forbid him coming back to this show. Please, god, no. But if he were, he might end up with her. They seem to LOVE putting him with other blondes. Anyway…I think if Derek is back on this show it’s because they wouldn’t let him out. They’ve monkeyed around with pros and contracts before, so…

DWTS Anna Trebunskaya And Kym Johnson Attend Donnie & Marie Christmas In Los Angeles Premiere

Pictured above is Dancing With The Stars Anna Trebunskaya and Kym Johnson! The two dancing queens attended the “Donny and Marie Osmond’s Christmas” premiere in Los Angeles, California last night looking glamorous as ever. What do you think? You can see more fantastic shots of them as well as other celebs at Film Magic and Getty Images. I was able to see the Donnie and Marie Show in Las Vegas in October and wow, what an energetic show. Marie has some serious pipes and Donny can still dance with the best of them. I especially loved how they interacted with the audience. If you get the chance, be sure to see one of their shows.

Melissa Rycroft Discusses Winning the DWTS Title, Dance Experience, And More

Melissa Rycroft tells Pegasus News that she and Tony thought for sure Shawn and Derek had won Dancing With The Stars last week. They both had to take a minute and think “Is this really happening? Did this really just happen?” She discusses more about winning the title at the link, but, I thought this take was interesting about why she did the show for a second time. She also discusses “dance experience” and if that can help or hurt a person on Dancing With The Stars. See if you agree as I think she makes a great point. Just because a person has dance experience means that someone will win this show and it’s not just as hard and challenging for them. How many times has Heidi told us that?!

This was your second time on the show; why did you decide to compete again?

It took me a little bit to make the decision, because Season 8 for me was such a highlight. It was perfect — the stars aligned, and I knew at the time I was coming off of all The Bachelor hoopla, and so in my mind that was kind of what propelled me to the finals … I was hesitant coming in to the all-star season because I didn’t have that anymore. [I asked myself], what if I don’t have the audience behind me now, now that I don’t have the drama and this experience that was so magical just ends on a dead note? Ultimately, I went, “This was one of the greatest experiences of my life, and if you have the opportunity to do something like that again, why wouldn’t you?” So I just said let’s do it.

Do you think your dance background helped you at all?

I wish dance experience helped you on the show … you’ve got the athletes that are trained to perfect themselves … you’ve got the actors who can emotionally get into character, and then you have the musicians who can hear music in ways that other people can’t hear it. Sometimes in the competition, that can actually hurt you. You can overdo it, your body may not react the way it should, and that’s what I experienced … from dancing with the [Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders] … everything that I had known from that was wrong in ballroom, and it hindered that. Tony actually had to erase what I knew because I wasn’t coming in as a blank slate.

Heidi: This is a classy, classy girl. Tony take note. This was my favorite part of the interview:

In Season 8, you were edged out of the top spot by Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson. How does it feel to come back in Season 15 and beat her?

As much as everybody would love it, there was no competition between Shawn and I. Shawn and I were actually very good friends this time around. We pushed each other; we picked each other back up. I’ll be honest I was happy to make it to the finals. The three woman that made it, to me — we were all winners walking in on Monday night to have accomplished what we did. To come out on top is an unbelievable feeling. Like I said, it still hasn’t sunk in, and I don’t look at it as “You beat an individual person” or “There was one group we were after.” It’s just it was amazing to be standing at the end of the competition as talented as this one was.

She had the right attitude, for sure. I’m thinking she was raised right. :-) She is right on target about the dance experience debate – the only thing I would add is that, while it can be a disadvantage, she’s not the only person who has that disadvantage. She frames it like “all these other people have these great qualities while I have dance experience which is actually a disadvantage.” I know what she’s saying, but that’s a tad simplistic. EVERYONE has an advantage of some kind, and I think that the only one that is greater than the others is likely youth. Of course, dance experience, being an athlete, being an actor – all those are going to have more advantage than, say, a stand up comic or a model. But Melissa falls into neither of those latter categories. Everyone also has a disadvantage, just like she did. Shawn had to work on her emotional connection, Kelly was so shakey a lot of the time, Apolo…well, I can’t think of any Apolo flaws, but that’s probably just me. ;-)

Dancing With The Stars Executive Producer Conrad Green Discusses TV Ratings And New Season

The season-finale of Dancing With The Stars was down in viewers numbers by 20% from “year to year” according to an article at USA Today. Executive Producer Conrad Green has explained why he thinks this might be. All in all and even though it’s had some tough competition this seaspn, he still feels like the Dancing With The Stars all star season was a successful one. He also comments on the next season of Dancing With The Stars and how they are already in “conversations” on the new cast. More below and at the link. While we’re on the subject of the new season, also note that the premiere date has been set for March 18th, 2013.

“In retrospect, one thing that was lacking was a lot of discovery about the dancers,” says Green. “I think we underestimated how important it was to see people come fresh to the ballroom and see a story start from zero.”

Most seasons, the dancers entertainingly stumble through the beginning phases. This season, viewers watched impressive celebrity dancers — many had won their own seasons — who sometimes rivaled the pros in their own skills.

“People who watched the season really enjoyed it. The level of dancing was amazing, and it was great to see dancers come back,” says Green. “But I have heard from people that they feel like I’ve seen these people dance before. That might have been a reason our ratings took a dip slightly. But the experiment with the All-Star season was a successful one, by and large.”

Green also points to increased competition from NBC’s popular The Voice, which for the first time overlapped both DWTS nights and even shared L.A. taping space.

“It’s very tough direct competition for a show that fights for the same type of audience,” says Green. “Bearing in mind the audience we’re still getting and what they are getting, it speaks volumes about both shows.”

Green hasn’t ruled out doing another All-Star season in the future (“never say never”). But in the spring, it will be a return to new dancers.

“We’re already having conversations,” said Green. “Next season will be a new start and a new cast who haven’t danced before. People will have a chance to get re-engaged.”

Conrad forgot to mention how Dancing With The Stars had competition with Monday night football as well.

Heidi is an expert in this area. Let’s see what she thinks….

Heidi: Heh – in a way, Conrad is right…but all shows are down over all, so it’s not like they’ve fallen completely out of favor. (Don’t pimp me too much, Vogue – I haven’t done an indepth study this season. :-) )Of course, depending on how you read it, he sounds like he’s agreeing with me (again) – you’ve seen these people before, for sure. The natural extension from that comment is “…and some of them have already won.”   Of course, over all, your audience might just be on to you, Conrad – why watch a show where the judges are just acting ridiculous. Do you think that those of us on this website are the only ones that don’t understand how Kirstie Alley or a Bristol Palin scores only a point lower than Melissa, Apolo or Shawn in any given week?? Perhaps your ratings would be up if half or most of your audience didn’t scream “WTF???” when the scores are handed out after every dance.  They hear how CAI is so sweet and kind to Kirstie, only to turn around and pick on Apolo’s chemistry with Karina and give him a score that is uncomfortable close to Kirstie’s when it is clear to EVERYONE that Apolo is ten times the dancer. Dude….get yo head out yo azzzz. :-)  More on this subject in a few days when I have time to write extensively on how he could fix this show.  :-)

Tony Dovolani: From Dancing With The Stars To His Golf Game (New Interview)

The Morning Blend interviewed Dancing With The Stars champ Tony Dovolani on his win with Melissa Rycroft. Other than his kids being born, it was one of the highest moments of his life. He is still “pinching” himself. “Did that really happen?” They also talk of Tony’s golf game which he continued to play during the season of Dancing With The Stars. He is at an “index” of 2 (what does that mean? Can someone explain?). He talks of how Dancing With The Stars has helped his game and the pressure when golfing. He also gives his thoughts and predictions on Tiger Woods. Interesting interview!!

Dancing With The Stars Tristan MacManus ‘Steps Out’ With Katherine Jenkins

This past weekend, a Katherine Jenkins TV special aired across Britain. It was called “Steppin’ Out With Katherine Jenkins”. To add to all the entertainment and fun, Dancing With The Stars pro Tristan MacManus joined her in a “Argentine Tango” segment. From all the dances on the special that she performed (a waltz, an Argentine tango, a tap routine and a tribute to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers), she said the Argentine tango was the toughest since it’s “so technical”, you have to be “really strong” and it’s “the most intense”. Below is more from TV Choice.

You’re performing a waltz, an Argentine tango, a tap routine and a tribute to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. But which of those is the most challenging?

I think probably the Argentine tango is the toughest. It’s so technical and you have to be really strong. It’s the most intense. But I was lucky because I had one of my dance partners from America, Tristan MacManus, over, so I did the tango with him.

You can read more on the special at TV Choice. You can also see a fun picture of Katherine and Tristan. And here is the dance at the 35:00 minute mark….

Wow, these two make a hot dance pairing and maybe even more so than she and Mark Ballas? I love her lines and extensions with Tristan’s height and longer legs. Beautiful and so passionate!

Special thanks to Darren Hughes You Tube for the video!
