This is so cool. Mark Ballas And Shirley Ballas are holding an event in New York City to help people who smoke to quit. More below from PR Newswire.
PARSIPPANY, N.J., May 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Every smoker has a reason for how they started smoking and why they want to quit. With one of the largest global quit-smoking days approaching, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (GSKCH) and its Nicorette® and NicoDerm® CQ® smoking cessation brands are encouraging smokers to share their “why” for quitting by providing them the “how” at a free What’s Your Why?™ Smoke Swap event.
The event will take place in New York’s Times Square on Wednesday, May 27, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., anchored by a 20-foot smashed-out cigarette butt. Adult smokers will be encouraged to share and celebrate who or what motivates them to quit – their “why.” All smokers who want to jumpstart a quit attempt will receive support from smoking cessation experts and free quit-smoking product and resources, including a starter pack of Nicorette® gum, NicoDerm® CQ® patches or a $10 coupon towards Nicorette® mini Lozenges.
“It is such an inspiration to hear the “why” from smokers who have quit. What we are learning, too, is each “why” is as individual as the person who shares it. But if I had to share the most common one, I would say it’s a family member’s encouragement. It’s invaluable to smokers who have made this life-changing decision,” said Lisa Maxwell Anekwe, senior brand manager, Smoking Cessation. “We want to help every smoker in his or her effort to quit by providing tools and resources, like Nicorette® and NicoDerm® CQ®, which have helped millions of smokers all over the world in their quit attempt.”(1)
“Dancing with the Stars'” Mark Ballas, who quit smoking more than one year ago, and his mother, world-renowned ballroom dancer and former 40-year smoker Shirley Ballas, will be on site from 2-4 p.m. meeting fans, providing quit tips and taking the stage for a dance demonstration.
“I was very inspired as a child by my mom. So when I put my mind towards quitting smoking, I knew she was going to be the best support and partner. It was the right choice for both of us and we did it together,” said Mark Ballas.
“Mark is my world. I would do anything for him – even quitting smoking. When he asked me to do this with him, I couldn’t say yes fast enough, but there are still times I struggle with cravings. When that happens, I remind myself of my “why” – being there for Mark and my future grandchildren – and it gives me the strength to remain smoke-free,” said Shirley Ballas.

I just want to start out by saying thank you so much for all of you for your amazing love and support for PureDWTS this season. What a ride it’s been through all the good times, the not so good times, and all the curve balls. We laughed, we cried, and we shared it all together. So from all of us, thank you so much.
Also, for those new to the site, know we never go away in the off season. We follow the pros in the off season as much as when the season is on. We post exclusive interviews and any new rumors we run into for the next season. Court holds an Awards. Heidi writes awesome commentaries. Heidi and Court may even post some cheesecake. We love to post new Questionnaires as well. And then there is the new Dancing With The Stars Tour, Julianne and Derek’s Move Live On Tour, and the new Ballroom With A Twist shows to report on. So, yeah, don’t go away.
Ok, moving on to some post finale media. First up, Renee Spei You Tube at this link for some behind the scenes action at the show last night. Also, if you missed any of the dances last night on Dancing With The Stars and would like to see them all, see this link. Al worked late into the night trying to get everything up last night.
You can watch a recap at E News. And here are some interviews….
Tony Dovolani talked with the couples after they danced last night on Dancing With The Stars. He also spoke with Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman. They look into the crystal ball for tonight. More below…
Well, there’s not much to discuss tonight, actually. Riker and Rumer are currently tied for first place, with Noah 8 points back. I full expect that Noah’s deficit will get larger after their dance tomorrow night which brings it down to Riker and Rumer. The scores??
When all is said and done, for Noah to win, he needs to get about 35,000 more votes per million votes cast than BOTH Riker and Rumer. Now, bigger deficits have been over come in the past, but never in the finale. I don’t think Noah makes it. Now, it’s possible he could take second place instead of third, for sure. But I don’t see him winning, as much as I would love that to happen.
That leaves us with Riker and Rumer. The margin is ONE vote. Will Riker pull it off? Well, he should. Seriously, how non-creative and unimaginative could Val get by simply doing a good Argentine Tango? For that reason alone he should lose. Like Riker’s freestyle or not, it was a risk, it was different, it was a FREESTYLE.
The problem that Riker has is that his fans seemed to be (like many younger fanbases) consumed with twitter and winning the encore dance. HUGE mistake, as I tried to tell them. Has anyone won the encore freestyle AND won the trophy?? I think Kellie might be the only one. The PLUS that Riker has is that Derek fans seemed to be pretty solidly behind him. That said – how likely are you to power vote for someone who isn’t your first choice? Not that likely. I’m sure he got lots of votes from them, but it’s unlikely to be Derek’s fanbase at full strength, especially since they’ve had a week to cool down.
Rumer? I really like this girl a lot, but her pro let her down. That as a freestyle was a total creative cop out and that’s a real shame. He played it very, very safe and I can’t believe none of the judges called him on it. Rumer’s plus said is that she’s been pimped to high heaven and a large percentage of the voting audience could be called sheeple. Add in all the bought and paid for media since the beginning of the show and Riker has an uphill battle.
At the end of the day, I can’t even make a prediction. It’s too close to call. I change my mind every five minutes.
What to look for….well, Riker winning the encore would be a bad sign, historically. Riker getting hosed on the third dance is an interesting sign. It could mean he had the votes. But the judges tend to score that dance after the voting on a level playing field. I don’t think, historically, that they want to change the outcome with their scores. Let’s just see if they still do. What has Rob Wade dictated they do?
I’m interested in seeing who wins. If Riker wins, it will be a hard fought battle by a good dancer with an uphill fight. If Rumer wins, it will be a highly pimped win by a great dancer with the worst choreography from a winner probably in the history of the show. Or at least the last 10 seasons or so, considering that the choreography game has been upped every season.
Just breathtaking as always! Photographer: Adam Taylor bringing it again!! Click the photos to see more….
I can’t believe we’re down to the last shows of the season. Also, I can’t get Riker and Allison’s Jack Sparrow and Freestyle dances out of my head. I love when that happens and I hope and pray it’s telling for tonight’s outcome? So, first up, let’s get the scores first from last night….
Riker and Allison Holker – 80 (40/40)
Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy – 80 (40/40)
Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess – 72 (32/40)
You can watch some new interviews at E Online. The couples weigh in on how they were feeling after they danced.
E Online also reviewed the dances last night. They are still upset about Derek and Nastia not being in the finals. Me too. Ditto to this paragraph and Riker in his Jack Sparrow costume…
Let the record show: We are still mad.
Nastia Liukin should be in these finals and there’s nothing you could say that would make us change our mind about that. However, regardless of what we think, we can’t do anything to change reality and we’re just going to have to accept the fact that we do not control television and focus on the good things, like Riker Lynch in a Jack Sparrow costume.
FOX 11 interviewed the couples as well. Here is a take from the link….
Rumer also told FOX411 about doing the freestyle, “Honestly, you have to just let the whole world disappear and you just have to dance with your partner and stay with that connection…it was amazing. I don’t even feel like I totally remember it. I don’t know how to explain it. We put everything we had on the floor.”
While her supporters include A-listers like Gwyenth Paltrow and Ashton Kutcher, who tweeted their love on Monday, Rumer gratefully noted backstage that it was her crew of NON-famous fans who voted her into the finale.
Rumer received a perfect score of 80 for the two dances.
Meanwhile, double amputee Galloway scored a 32 for his first dance and a 40 for his second for a total of 72 points.
He told FOX411 about his freestyle with partner Sharna Burgess, “I felt great because Read more..
Dancing with the Stars Season 20, The Final Performances – Let’s Discuss Tonight’s Show!! (Spoilers)
Well, I took an unscientific poll of Derek fans. Everyone appears to be voting Riker. Granted, I have 11k followers and only about 30 people responded to the tweet…but only one or two said they were voting Noah. Everyone else said Riker. I have NO idea if this is the best course of action. One minute I think Riker has a better shot, then five seconds later I’m thinking Noah is getting a ton of votes. The fact that they called Riker safe makes me think that he was the one that was only 1.5% ahead of Nastia…then five minutes later I think that he was in first place. I have no idea.
As I preach every week in my “Dancing by the Numbers” post, it’s NOT just the voters, but the judges as well. Their points count for half. Generally, the finale and semi-final can go one of two ways. The judges rank the couples by handing out scores that put someone in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place OR they throw out scores in such a way to create a tie – that’s called throwing it to the audience. Which way will they go?? Well, if they throw it to the audience, I expect that it’s Rumer’s to lose. After all their hard, hard work this season in making sure Val gets a MBT, are they likely to throw it to the audience if she didn’t have it in the bag? Maybe, maybe not. I feel schizophrenic. At the end of the day, if Noah is within three points, I would want to vote for him. However…if all the Derek fans are going with Riker, well then I should go with them, right?? :::sigh::: We’ll discuss this again at the end of round one.
Okay, Noah up first with his AT.
He was pretty unsteady in spots…but a 32 may be the nail in his coffin, depending on how the other two do.
Riker up next with his Paso – which he pretty much killed. If he gets nitpicked, I’ll be pissed.
Standing ovation from Len?? Either Riker is doing horrible in votes or he’s doing amazing. No middle ground.
Aren’t you shocked that Rumer is going last?? I know I am. (end sarcasm)
Okay, required Rumer tears…check. Required Val kindness…check. Required repeat of Len’s prediction that it’s Val’s season…check.
A bit out of sync…and still rather hard. Bruno mentions “hollywood royalty” and “dancing royalty”. CAI says poetry in motion. Oy veh. Long night.
Difference after round one….Noah needs about 72k more votes per million votes cast to beat either Rumer or Riker. Biggest Margin ever, I think. This will change after the freestyles, but it looks like I’m voting Noah.
Okay, Noah’s freestyle was killer. I loved it. It best be a perfect score. They’ve handicapped him enough.
Dance party in the red room and Erin makes a funny at Redfoo.
Aaannnndd…Noah gets a perfect score. Well deserved but it also seemed pre-planned.
Lot’s of pressure on Rumer and Val because Riker just slayed it with a fun, different, cool free style.
Welp, I’m voting Riker….I hope you do too.
Someone explain to me how that was a freestyle?? And how it was markedly different from anything else she did all season long. Me thinks they missed the whole point of a freestyle.
Gee, where have I heard that bit about stripping it down….oh, that’s right, DEREK.
Okay, with a diferential of about 35k votes, I’m voting Riker. You also have to remember there is a dance that is scored tomorrow. Need to vote to make up for the underscoring that Riker will likely get.
