DWTS – Karina Smirnoff Launches New DVD & Make-up Line, Wedding Date Set, & DWTS Talk

Last night, Karina launched her new workout DVD and “Girlactik” make-up line at Sweet E’s Bakery in Los Angeles. She discusses her new products as well as her wedding plans (the date has been pushed up to January 2012). But, what I found interesting (and tell me if I am speculating too much here?) is that she mentions how the show will help her keep fit for the wedding. Does she know something we don’t? Does this mean she’s a “go” for this season and/or the next? Read more below from the Daily Mail and let us know what you think.

‘With the show [Dancing with the Stars] being as intense I’ll probably lose the weight, then gain it back, then before the wedding lose it again,’ she joked about getting in perfect wedding dress shape.

After announcing her engagement Karina initially said she wanted to get married quickly.

However, the plan to get married in a few months has clearly changed.

Karina, 32, who was previously linked to Extra host Mario Lopez, also discussed her new fitness DVD at the event.

‘It’s about 35 minutes of actual workout, but it’s really intense and you are going to get sore but it does work.’

Edit to add a Video Interview at this event. See it >>>>HERE.

I also found this tweet to Johnny Weir last night very interesting. For those that don’t know, these two were rumored to be paired up last year.

So far, he hasn’t answered her. I know…I am pipe dreaming again. 🙂

DWTS – Anna Trebunskaya & Jonathan Roberts’s Do The Nate Berkus Show

Anna and Jonathan were guests on The Nate Berkus Show yesterday teaching him some dance moves. I can’t embed the video, but, you can see them dancing and shimmying with Nate and a few guests >>>>> HERE!!!

Anna and Jonathan also talked backstage about their idea of a perfect Valentine’s Day. Check them out. They are so cute as always.

Be sure to see today’s (Feb.9th) episode in full for more.

DWTS Season 12 Cast Rumors/Speculation – Lee Meriwether To Do DWTS?

Ok, so this is a long shot. But, it’s been noted by several of the Pure DWTS writing team that Lee Meriwether has recently added some people to her twitter account that has a connection with “Dancing With The Stars” including some fans to the show and ourselves. Now maybe this is nothing and Lee is just trying to garnish some publicity for her role in “Women of Spoon River“. Then again, we know the former Miss America, actress, and Broadway star would very much like to do the show and was rumored to be a contestant last year. From 10Xdur, here’s a quote from Lee last April.

Now at the age of 74, this femme fatale wants to claw her way onto the cast of Dancing with the Stars. Unlike some of the other older contestants like Buzz Aldrin and Cloris Leachman, Lee might possibly have a chance of winning.

“As a performer, I think I can dance,” she told us. “I know better in my heart that it will take a lot of work, but I think I can sell it. As a performer you pretend to be a dancer, and I know I can be a dancer.”

“I love the show. I watch it. I tape it. I watch the dances over and over and over again,” she went on to say. “I just love the show.”

Edit to add a tweet from this last November:

Again, this is a long shot. But, everything sure seems coincidental, doesn’t it? If this turns out to be true, who do you see Lee dancing with? I would say Corky but then that would be too much of a repeat for what we saw last year with him and Florence. Maybe Louis? Or maybe Tony who she might have seen and talked with at the Miss America show last month? Whatever the case, Lee wears fancy dress gowns well, doesn’t she? 😉

Heidi’s Note: Lee’s been wanting to be on the show for a while and we’ve written about her before. 🙂

Dancing with the Stars 2011 Pro Possibilities

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m ready for Dancing with the Stars 2011 to start already. I always think that the Spring season of Dancing with the Stars starts earlier than it does. While we wait, I (and the rest of the Pure DWTS peeps) have put together info on who the DWTS 2011 professional dancers might be and other conjecture. Also, be sure to check out the previously posted Dancing with the Stars season 12 cast rumors.

Alec Mazo – Alec hasn’t said much on Twitter about it, but I think it’s safe to say he won’t be back. I’m sad about this since if they brought him back, then Edyta would probably come back. I think very few will care if Alec’s back or not though, which is probably why the producers haven’t brought him back every season.

Anna Demidova – Sadly her Twitter updates have gone private. How weird is that? I could understand maybe have a private second account for real friends and family, but I’d think she’d want as much exposure as possible. Even if she only updated it with professional things. I’d say she’s out.

Anna Trebunskaya – I haven’t seen anything either way. However, she’s had a STRONG showing these past couple seasons. So much so that even I fell in love with her despite a pretty bad start. I’d say she’s definitely back. The show needs a feisty little red head with an accent anyway.

Ashly DelGrosso (Costa)
http://twitter.com/#!/ashlycosta/status/21858112514
Well, that pretty much says it all. Ashly would like to be on the show, but she doesn’t know yet if she’ll be on DWTS 2011 or not. I predict that she will. She deserves a season with someone who can actually move.

Chelsie Hightower – No news so far, but can anyone imagine her not being on the show. I guess the only possibility would be if there were no short male celebrities. Although, a taller man with a shorter women isn’t as bad as the other way around. I’m sure Chelsie will be back. She did mention that she has a new boyfriend.

Cheryl Burke
http://twitter.com/#!/DWTSGossip/status/34276264231706624
As you can see @DWTSGossip says she is back. They seem to know Cheryl pretty well. I’d say if Cheryl wants on the show she’ll be back. So, I say she’s back. Nothing on her Twitter account, except she’s definitely trying to pull together some publicity for her book tour. It’s funny to see her Twitter name dropping through the previous DWTS casts. I guess that happens when you’ve been on DWTS that many seasons.

Corky Ballas – No word, but I’d say he’s probably a no. Unless, DWTS somehow convinced Betty White to be on the show. Now wouldn’t that be something.

Damian Whitewood – Word is that Peta (who could be a pro on DWTS 2011 as well) and Damian are on their way to LA. Now why would they need to be in LA I wonder? If they aren’t regular pros, then I’m sure we’ll continue to see them doing some pro dances for the results show.

Derek Hough – I think most people know that Derek is filming a movie Cobu 3D and won’t be on DWTS season 12. He did say he’d be back for DWTS season 13 and be “more edgier” and “musclier.” I wonder where Princess Heidi’s votes will go with Derek out.

Dmitry Chaplin – I’m not sure about Dmitry. He mentioned that he’s done some choreography work for SYTYCD Ukraine during the break. I could see it going either way with Dmitry.

Edyta Sliwinska – Word is she won’t be back. She’s busy at school and other dance events. I’m guessing it will take another season or two for her and the producers to cool off. If I didn’t have this blog, I’d stop watching until the producers put her back on. The Edyta eye candy is definitely missing from the show for me.

Elena Grinenko – She seems to be doing Grinya’s Entertainment full time now including this really cool Celebrity Dance Camp which I wish I could have attended. So, I wouldn’t expect her back. We would welcome her to guest post about DWTS on here though.

Jonathan Roberts – Jonathan will definitely be back doing at least a result show dance with Anna. As far as the show, I have no idea. There’s really nothing to hate about Jonathan, but he doesn’t have the enormous fan following either. So, I think he could go either way. I would have LOVED to see the following which he described in a tweet:
http://twitter.com/#!/JonatRoberts/status/14283665328574464

Julianne Hough – Julianne is off to Hong Kong with Derek. The real question is if she’ll ever be back on DWTS. I think it would be quite the achievement if the producers get her back, but I’m not betting on it. Julianne did get some amazing seats at the Super Bowl. So not fair. I bet she barely even knew which teams were plaing.

Karina Smirnoff
http://twitter.com/#!/Karina_Smirnoff/status/34120412564553728
Well, looks like Karina’s learning dance moves from the UFC fight. Interesting that she says for this season. I’m sure it was a bit of a slip since I don’t think the producers have told anyone yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she has a long term contract and so she knows more or less that she’ll be back. Either way, the show loves a little Karina. Her facial expressions are priceless.

Kym Johnson
http://twitter.com/#!/kym_johnson/status/34034281466564608
Kym’s back in LA too. Seems like all the pros are heading to LA. Coincidence? Maybe not. Would be odd for her to be the showpiece on HSN for the DWTS hair line and then not be on this season.

Lacey Schwimmer
http://twitter.com/#!/LaceySchwimmer/status/33630051069075456
Of course, Lacey could be talking about a lot of work or even the work that day. However, usually you clear off the DVR before work like being on DWTS when you’re too busy to go and watch your DVR’d shows. Although, I think that Lacey’s still on the bubble like last season where she wasn’t on the show and then something happened (presumably the Edyta fall out) which got her back on the show. I expect more of the same for her this year, but we’ll see.

Louis van Amstel
http://twitter.com/#!/LouisVanAmstel/status/34661371274600449
Looks like Louis doesn’t know. Although, it seems odd that he’d know about some changes for the show, but not whether he’s on the show or not. Any guesses on the changes?

Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Maks is a hard one to peg. Will he be stuck in the Ukraine doing Bachelor? I’m guessing not. Bachelor UK isn’t as big as being a pro on DWTS I don’t think. @LizzieGrubman asked if Maks would be back on Twitter and then the next day said Maks is back. I’m not sure if she knows anything special, but I’d be very surprised if Maks isn’t back. Some have asked about Maks’ brother on the show. I’d say maybe, but probably not.

Mark Ballas – Will he be too busy touring for his album to be on DWTS 2011? I’d guess probably not. There’s little publicity for his album that’s better than him being on DWTS. So, I expect he’ll be back and don’t be surprised if he performs on the results show. I bet that’s part of his contract negotiation now.

Tony Dovolani
http://twitter.com/#!/DWTSGossip/status/34276264231706624
@DWTSGossip says he’s back on DWTS 2011. Looking at the lineup of male pros. I think it’s safe to say that he’ll be back on the show.

Good times. There are my thoughts, conjecture and run down of the various Dancing with the Stars pros. What do you think? Which pros will be back on Dancing with the Stars 2011 and which ones will be watching from home?

The Pros & Cons of the DWTS Pros – The Anna T. and Jonathan Edition

This is a part of the Pros and Cons of the DWTS pros Series. You can check out all the posts in this series here.

Anna Trebunskaya:

Courtney: Ahhh, my absolute favorite pro on this show, male or female 😀 And not just because she’s a fellow (bottle) redhead! Hehe.  For me, Anna is the perfect balance of creativity and technical skill: her routines manage to combine equal parts of technically sound dance steps and also a good flash of creativity.  I think you also have to respect the fact that Anna and hubby Jonathan are the freshest from competition themselves – they’ve been competing professionally as recently as early 2009, when Anna was a professional Latin finalist with Pavlo Barsuk and Jonathan was the world smooth champion along with Valentina Kostenko. I think because of this, many of their routines are more true to “real” competitive ballroom dancing, and are looked favorably upon by the judges – especially traditionalist Len.  And while Anna may give the impression of being a feisty little redheaded Russian spitfire on the floor, she is (usually) the picture of calm & control during practice sessions with her partners, working patiently with their strengths and through their weaknesses…from Jerry to Steve to Chuck to Evan.  Only on a rare few occasions has Anna broken down in tears or anger, and has been gracious and apologetic afterwards.  Quite possibly the thing I love most about her – her marriage to Jonathan.  Those two are one of the most adorable couples I’ve ever seen, and seem to truly adore one another – anyone that follows them on Twitter can attest to the sweet things they tweet one another, especially when they’re on opposite ends of the country.  And the dances they do together? BREATHTAKING.  Some of their romantic waltzes (like the one they did to Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel”) make Edyta & Alec look like two complete strangers dancing together.  They’re blissfully in sync and such a delight to watch.  If anything, the one thing that I think prevents a lot of people from warming up to Anna is that (like many of the other eastern European pros) she can often come across as cold – I’m sure its unintentional, and more a product of English being her second language than anything else.  Like Edyta, she still seems to have retained quite an accent, which I actually find cute. 😉

John: If you’d asked me a season ago to write about Anna, I’d have said who? Ok, I knew the name, but I couldn’t think of one memorable dance I’d seen her do. I guess it took her getting a decent partner to come out of her shell and shock me time and time again on last season of DWTS. I can’t remember how many times I went on IM last season and told Heidi, “WoW! How did I miss Anna in past seasons?” She was fun. She was sexy. She was entertaining. Her choreography was exciting and the hair, makeup and costume people figured out how to work with her red hair. I’ll be interested to see how her and the soft spoken Kurt Warner do. Kurt will be as hungry as Evan to win, but probably won’t be quite as agile. I think Anna gets worn down when her partners can’t execute and then she doesn’t know what to do. I hope that doesn’t happen with Kurt. I also loved last season when Anna admitted that she had no idea what to do with the choreography for the freestyle. She has ballroom dancing in her very core and so it was really authentic to see her struggle to go outside of that. I think she said something like, “I’d rather choreograph 1000 paso doble’s than 1 freestyle.” I found that really endearing and my heart felt for her.

Marianya: Anna T is one of those strictly ballroom pros that I love so much. She’s been actively competing in ballroom competitions through the duration of the show and her overall look is amazing. What I love about Anna is she’s able to balance a strong work ethic with having a little bit of fun. I remember in Season 2 when she worked with Jerry Rice she took a bit of his football training and showed him how it could be applied to ballroom dancing, and it worked… he ended up placing second behind Drew Lachey. She knows how to have a little bit of fun as evidence by the big afro wigs wore in the freestyle she did with Jerry. During the period of time when she wasn’t on the show and decided to compete professionally, she always came back to dance in a results show with her husband. Anna with Jonathan are absolutely flawless together, there is no better chemistry than that of a real life couple… and even then in comparison to Edyta and Alec, Anna and Jonathan seem to simply breathe as one. More often than not we have seen the two of them dance together in some ballroom routine, but they have done latin routines as a couple too. In any case, Anna’s been the bridesmaid twice now, so she’s going to be hungry to win this season.

Heidi: I love Anna, but I love Anna and Jonathan together even more. 🙂 They’re very romantic together – and not in a gross, icky way. Hee. Courtney, they aren’t just cute on twitter when they’re across the country from each other, but when they’re sitting next to each other, tweeting at the same time. Adorable. I never really got “cold” from Anna, but then I didn’t pay that close of attention until last season. The only time I felt like Anna failed last season was during her freestyle, and you know what? I don’t think her mistake was her choreography, but using someone else’s at that stage of the competition. Now, she had the help of more than one outside pro, possibly throughout the season, as evidenced by Travis Wall’s hastily deleted tweet in the second to last week of the competition. I don’t actually have a problem with that on it’s face, but the thing is: SHE knew Evan. She knew his personality and his strengths and his weaknesses – she should have trusted her own abilities. She’s extremely talented and I think she got caught up in the idea that the freestyle has to be the most mind blowing thing ever – and it certainly has to be good, but she let that get in her head. Girl, you’re fabulous!! TRUST it.

Heidi: I’m back again because I forgot something – Anna is at her most beautiful SANS makeup. The girl is gorgeous and I think occasionally the DWTS makeup team go a bit too nuts on her. I know this because she’s tweeted pictures of herself in her “normal” state and she’s really breathtakingly gorgeous – more so than with all that makeup on.

Marianya: Heidi and John, thanks for mentioning her freestyles I totally forgot about that. Anna’s Achilles’ seems to be the freestyle, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s because she feels like she has to create a freestyle to fit with modern viewers… and since she is ballroom through and through that added pressure just seems to overwhelm her? Oh and Courtney, you might want to have a body like Edyta, but man… Anna’s my body idol. 😀

Courtney: Well I daresay all of the DWTS ladies are blessed with great figures! But Edyta is just so RIPPED.  But I do wish I had Anna’s hair, skin, & eyes – just lovely 🙂 And I wish I knew what shampoo she uses so that her red stays so vibrant – mine unfortunately tends to fade quite a bit by week 4 post-coloring 🙁

Marianya: Wait, I thought Anna was a natural redhead? And you’re the bottle head… I’m so confused. 🙁 But Edyta isn’t the only ripped on… Karina’s was amazing in that one pic that escapes my mind. Too bad Edyta isn’t on this season, I’d love to see the battle of the best bods.

Heidi: I think Courtney is projecting. 😉 As a natural redhead in a family of natural redheads (although I’m sad to say I’ve faded to blonde over time), Anna sure appears to have the complexion of a natural redhead. Very fair, green eyes.

Courtney: Ahem.  I have never lied about being an artificial redhead 😉 I have also been an artificial platinum blonde and an artificial raven-tressed gal (let’s just say I got bored a lot in college – I’m a natural brunette).  If memory serves from when I first fell in love with Anna back when she & Jonathan were competing in pro Latin together, Anna is a natural strawberry blonde, but started dying her hair a more vibrant red so it would show up better on the dance floor.  So she’s not a total faker like me ;-), but she gets a little bit of chemical assistance – hence the need for a red-boosting shampoo.  And while Karina does have a great body, Marianya, I have felt a bit disillusioned ever since I saw a blurb in US Weekly where she gushed about using the IT Cosmetics Airbrushed Abs kit.  Although I do admire her cleverness – as someone who’s done a few bikini contests, let me say there were definitely days I wish I had a little help to have the impossibly flat stomachs some of the other girls had!

Jonathan Roberts:

Courtney: Quite possibly the most underappreciated male pro in my eyes.  Yes, in the few seasons they’ve actually had him on the show, he’s had some pretty sucktastic partners.  And yes, he is the one responsible for the horrific doll freestyle that Marie did.  But have you seen this guy’s ballroom routines? Absolutely GORGEOUS.  Elegant, technical, creative, fluid – I could go on and on about the superior quality of his waltzes, tangos, foxtrots, Viennese waltzes, and quicksteps.  Yes, the Latin dances may be his Achilles heel (in his defense, most of his competitive career has focused on the ballroom dances, so, like Anna D., Latin isn’t really his bread & butter), but I challenge any of the other male pros to match Jonathan in both ballroom choreography and partnering.  No one is as “there” for their partner as he is in those dances, and can pull off tricky moves like reverse attitude turns with the incredible ease that he does.  And as I mentioned above – he and Anna are just a delight to watch.  Every dance they do is infused with the genuine love they feel for one another.  As cheesy as it sounds…watching those two dance a waltz makes me believe in fairy tales again. It’s just disappointing to me that everyone seems to focus on his shortfalls, rather than his successes…seriously people, just put the doll freestyle out of your mind, and focus on he & Anna’s waltz to “Unchained Melody” during the Swayze tribute instead 😉

John: Unlike Courtney, I still believe in fairy tales. Jonathan and Anna are a great fairytale and waltz is the best. Jonathan is the most under appreciated dancer, because the ballroom routines are generally the most under appreciated routines on DWTS. They’re beautiful, but the Latin dances are WOW! People enjoy beautiful, but vote for Wow! To be honest though, Jonathan doesn’t seem like he wants to be in the spotlight. He’s just a gentleman that loves to dance. Not a bad combination, unless you want to go far in a reality TV show where America votes.

Marianya: Jonathan, I believe though I could be wrong, is probably the only male dancer that speciailizes in ballroom routines left in the competition. That’s what captured my attention about Jonathan (and Anna T once I realized that they were married)… he has an elegance and grace that is missing from many of the other male pros that could only come from someone that has focused on the waltz, tango, foxtrot, quickstep, and viennese watlz. Sometimes I would like to think that Anna came into the partnership as a stronger Rhythm/Latin partner while Jonathan was a stronger Smooth/Standard partner and as thus their yin/yang matched evenly and they balance one another out. I have never seen Jonathan “out dance” or “over shadow” his partner and he is always there for his female companions. Jonathan is even a good sport too, willing to dance the Man-go routine with Steve Guttenburg in season 6. Looks like Louis isn’t the only one in touch with his feminine side! Now if only Jonathan was on more.

Heidi: Jonathan has been hosed more often by this show than anyone else, yet you never hear him say a bad word about it. He never complains or gripes, unlike some, much more fortunate pros. And that sort of stuff really impacts how I watch the show, so I really appreciate him for that. Classy guy. It’s hard to tell, since he gets left out so often, but while I think he choreographs the best waltzes (regular and viennese varieties), I’m not so sure that he’s the best at the tangos and foxtrots – but how can you tell?? The guy gets left off the show far too often. But then, I watch this show with a different eye than the other ladies on this blog – I watch it more as a competition that has to seriously entertain me. Some pros get criticized for being flashy – but I’m here to tell you I’ve read that in a regular competition you have to STAND OUT in order to make the cut. Be flashy. And that’s how I watch the show – I dig flashy. 🙂 Now, Jonathan is truly flashy when dancing with Anna – that I could watch all day long. 🙂

The Round Up

Anna Trebunskaya

Courtney: Absolute perfection, in a beautiful redheaded package!

Marianya:One of the strongest fiery female dancers in ballroom AND latin. 🙂

Heidi: I dig her – but trust yourself, girl!!

John: A redhead that’s surprisingly grown on me.

Jonathan Roberts

Courtney: Poetry in motion! Just wish people appreciated him more…including the casting directors 🙁

Marianya: Amazing underused true ballroom dancer.

Heidi:Fantastically Classy guy.

John: Ballroom elegance.

DWTS11 Pro Casting Rumors – Jackie Josephs?

While the casting rumors for next season are still slow going this early in the summer hiatus, I did stumble across something interesting the other day while wasting time on facebook…there’s a group gunning hard to get Chicago-based ballroom dancer Jackie Josephs signed on next season as one of the pros.

Now normally I don’t put much stock in pro casting rumors (as we’ve witnessed through the show’s 10-season run, it’s really a crap shoot who makes it on a certain season and who doesn’t), but I think this one might actually have some merit to it for a few reasons.  First off, her former professional partner (and current business partner in the highly successful studio they own) is Jesse DeSoto, one of the pros from season 3 (paired with Shanna Moakler…they were the second couple eliminated.) Secondly, she’s been coached by 3 of the pros on the show: Corky, Tony, & Maks.  Third, her costume sponsor is Designs by Randall, the same company that makes all of the costumes for the show, and Randall Christensen himself has already vocalized his support for Jackie getting on the show on her facebook page.  On top of that, she’s good friends with Mark – I’ve seen more than a few TMZ videos of Mark out at restaurants/clubs after hours with Jackie in his entourage.  Seems to me like she’s already got several “ins” with the show, and may actually have a decent chance of getting hired on this coming season.

What do you guys think? Wishful thinking on the part of her fans, or a legit possibility?

What I Did on My Christmas Vacation – The Women, Part I

I always try to give people an update on what the pros have been up to in the off season – some of these kids stay very, very busy and often with each other! This time, because my job is killing me, I thought it would be fun to ask the fans of a given pro to help me out. I will be posting these in a series, and in no particular order – the order is only dictated by how much info people have given me. I will edit if I leave out something important, so let me know. First up – some of the ladies.

ETA: Updated both Lacey and Cheryl with more info!!

Chelsie Hightower

Status: She confirmed via twitter that she was on Season 10, but then deleted the tweets.

All info from Chelsie Hightower Dance. I did Chelsie, because I had a pretty good idea what she’s been up to, thanks to this awesome website. If I’ve left out anything important, let me know!

You might not know this, but Chelsie has a clothing line!! Love the purple tee. The things you learn when you work on this site. 🙂 Anyways,
Chelsie also took part in the Louis Van Amstel choreographed and directed stage show Ballroom with a Twist. This was, I think, a one week deal in New Jersey.

The DuPont Theatre proudly announces the signing of 2009 Dancing With the Stars first runner-up Dmitry Chaplin, the blonde & beautiful Chelsie Hightower, and the strikingly magnetic husband and wife team of Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya to headline this extraordinary lineup of talent. Louis van Amstel, a four-time Dancing With the Stars pro, brings ballroom to the stage as he directs and choreographs an entire ensemble of fabulous young dancers from shows such as Dancing With the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and High School Musical. American Idol alumni David Hernandez and Trenyce provide stylish and exciting vocal accompaniment and interludes.

Chelsie, Mark Ballas and, to a lesser extent Derek all took part in a local Utah dance production called Move. This was comprised of area dancers of all ages and was a one week event in Provo, Utah.

She also performed in a dance event in Toronto with Mark and Dmitry which I can’t seem to find any information on right at the moment, other than the name 2 Some Dance. In addition, her website reports that she’s been teaching some of her former students.

Finally, as I’m sure most people know by now, Chelsie was in the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated with former partner Ty Murray – looking fantastic! For the launch, Chelsie was in NYC and then in Vegas for a variety of launch parties. Well done – quite the coup.

Cheryl Burke

Status: Confirmed for Season 10

The wonderful Cheryl Burke Fans helped me out and provided me with all the info below.

Cheryl’s been a very busy lady, as her fans well know. In addition to having several dance studios that she owns and where she often teaches or has parties, Cheryl did some important charity work this break. Dancing and Giving from the Heart:

And by reaching out, Cheryl is using her talents to help the typhoon victims in the Philippines through Dance for a Cause on Sunday, December 20 at her San Francisco studio, Cheryl Burke Dance.

“Losing almost 1,000 lives and seeing almost half a million people get displaced by flooding caused by a series of typhoons that is worse than Hurricane Katrina, is a horrific devastation,” Cheryl said. “What’s more heartbreaking is that not too many people in the US has heard about the magnitude of this disaster in the Philippines. It is my hope that by organizing Dance for a Cause, I could raise awareness and encourage not only the Asian population, but also the mainstream community in helping our less fortunate fellow Filipinos.”

The evening program will include dance lessons with Cheryl Burke, and group dance instructions, a performance by the Cheryl Burke Dance Studio professional dancers, and finally a special dance number by Cheryl and Mark Ballas. A professional ballroom dancer, singer and actor, Mark was a back to back winner of Dancing with the Stars with Olympians Kristi Yamaguchi and Shawn Johnson in Season 7 and 8 respectively.

Cheryl also took part in the Disney Christmas Day Parade

Anika Noni Rose – The Tony Award-winner voice of Princess Tiana from the new Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film “The Princess and the Frog,” performs a musical production inspired by “Tiana’s Showboat Jubilee.” During the number, she will be accompanied by Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke, two of the dancers from ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars.” The musical, Mardi Gras-style celebration takes place in New Orleans Square at Disneyland.

Possibly one of the biggest coups the female pros have gotten thus far, outside of Broadway or Movie roles, is the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. Say what you want about the whole deal, but it is pretty high profile and, once again, makes my point about these men and women being bigger stars than some of the celebs who come on the show. I chose one of Cheryl’s pics which is just too cute and shows a ton of personality.

Along with Shawn Johnson and Joey Fatone, Cheryl hosted the Citrus Parade

ORLANDO, FL, Nov. 30, 2009 — The on-air personalities for the 2009 Spherion Orlando Citrus Parade will be familiar to fans of ABC’s hit show Dancing with the Stars. Entertainer Joey Fatone, dancer Cheryl Burke and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson, all of whom have appeared on Dancing with the Stars, will be a part of the parade’s nationally syndicated broadcast.

For the sake of brevity, I’m just going to list the rest of Cheryl’s activities – she’s just been THAT busy:
– Cover of Dance Teacher Magazine
– Cover of Spirit of Women Magazine
– Received Hollywood Style Award
ET Hot List for 2009

Lacey Schwimmer

Status: No for Season 10

ETA: Rebecca sent me a bunch of information on Lacey that I had accidentally left out! Thanks, Rebecca!

Lacey is a good deal tougher to figure out than Chelsie and Cheryl. I know Lacey has her own clothing line as well, but other than that, details on her time off (in terms of work) are somewhat sketchy.

Lacey participated in the DizzyFeet Foundation Gala with Lance Bass – great cause! She also opened up on Access Hollywood about a battle with anorexia, which I thought was rather brave.

She worked with Safe Passage which, if I have the right one, is a charity that provides school enrollment and after-school support for poor children whose families scavenge the Guatemala City Garbage Dump in Guatemala City. She did a bit of choreography with Benji, got a tattoo and seemed to be on Vacay – which makes me officially jealous of her. I know she was working on a music CD and it is supposed to drop in February – which is NOW, btw. 🙂

Lacey and her brother Benji performed at an iHollywood Dance function.

Lacey had a photoshoot around the first of February – and at least one of the photos is stunningly gorgeous. Visit her Twitter page to see it.

Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo

Status: Unknown

Big shout out to Rebecca who helped me catch me up with what Edyta and Alec have been doing. 🙂 I did a two-in-one here, because they are married and their activities largely coincided.

In December, Alec and Edyta traveled and taught classes in both Boston and Florida – and Rebecca was fortunate enough to attend the Boston MIT event! Here are a few pictures:

Alec and Edyta then danced at a fashion show/gala.

Edyta attended the AMA’s in late November 2009.

Now, about Alec and Edyta’s status on DWTS…they appeared on Dr. Phil and mentioned that at some point they would want to take a break to have a baby. And oh, what a beautiful child that will be.

In order to raise money for Haiti, Alec and Edyta sold autographed pictures of themselves – they raised $15,000. [Heidi’s Note: I think I saw where one of the other pros met up with Edyta to give her pictures to sell also – was it Cheryl???]

Finally, right after DWTS Season 9 ended, the couple took a vacation to St. Lucia. Jealous. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

My Top Female Dancing with the Stars Pros

I’m sitting here waitig for the tires to be done on my car. New Years Eve football is on in the background and I decided it would be fun to write up a list of my favorite DWTS pros. I’ll just do the female pros and leave the male pros up to one of the other Pure DWTS female bloggers. I’m also not going to list all of the pros since I don’t have a list in front of me.

So, without further ado, here’s my list of favorite female DWTS pros:
1. Julianne Hough – Julianne is one of the major reasons that I started to love DWTS. Julianne and Apolo were fantastic together. I also loved how Julianne wasn’t afraid to make comments back to the judges. Not hateful or disrespectful, just disagreeing and playful. I loved it and missed it this last season.
2. Edyta Śliwińska – I just adore Edyta’s dancing. She’s not the best teacher and not the best choreographer, but if I think back on my favorite moments on DWTS Edyta has a number of them. Her long legs don’t hurt either. I really hope she can win a mirror ball trophy.
3. Kym Johnson – Donny was definitely a ringer, but Kym had been given such crap partners before that I didn’t mind too much. Plus, she was so fantastic with less than perfect dancers like Jerry Springer that I was so glad she could finally win. I could be wrong, but I bet she’s just as nice in person as she is on TV. The accent is nice as well.
4. Chelsie Hightower – I have a feeling that Chelsie is going to move up this list over time. I can’t get some of her ‘boy’ moments (like burping) out of my head, but I still love watching her dance. She brings the most out of her partners and I think truly loves dancing.
5. Karina Smirnoff – Karina is such an amazing dancer. Some of her back bends are unbelievable. I prefer to watch her in the pro dances, but she is stunning to watch dance.
6. Lacey Schwimmer – She’s a bit of a jerk at times, but as far as dancing she is very creative. However, I’d love to see her choreograph on SYTYCD where there aren’t rules.
7. Cheryl Burke – She is likely the best choreographer on this list so I couldn’t leave her off. However, her dancing doesn’t do much for me. I’m not sure why. I’m sure she’s technically great, but just isn’t as nice to watch as the others to me.

Ok, that’s the list off the top of my head of top female DWTS pros. Is there someone I’ve left off? How would you rank them?
