I’m sure many of you are wondering where the Cheesecake Awards are. Well, don’t worry, they are coming. Courtney and Heidi will certainly provide some special cheesecake for you just for the holidays. While we love the cheesecake awards, we decided that it would be a fun thing to have an awards that was a little more serious. So, the following is the Pure DWTS End of Season Awards.

First, I have to give Courtney props for doing most of the work in putting these award lists together with some help from the Pure DWTS writers. Next, you’ll notice that each poll has an “Other” option so if you don’t like the choices we’ve provided you can add in another choice. Also, be aware that the order of the choices in each poll is random and the results are hidden so we can have a really cool results post.

Dancing With The Stars – Media Tidbits, Reflecting Back Question, Exploring Same Sex Couple idea

Ok everyone!! So, when you think back on all of the dances this year, which dances were huge standouts for you??

For me, it was Maks and Brandy’s last Argentine Tango, Jennifer and Derek’s first Argentine Tango and both Dirty Dancing numbers. They were so good!

In some media things for you today while you ponder on that question, first we have Louis being interviewed by the paparazzi. They ask some really good questions about the Season, the idea of a “same sex couple” dancing, and more. He doesn’t hold back.

Speaking of the idea of a “Same Sex Couple” dancing, here’s a take from Fox News exploring the idea.

Reports have been running rampant over recent weeks that next year’s “Dancing With the Stars” will be quite a quick-step from tradition and feature a same-sex twosome.

The speculation stemmed from the announcement that the Israeli edition of the hit show would pair two ladies, at the request of a lesbian sportscaster who felt more comfortable foxtrotting with a female in the competition. Numerous names started being thrown around, including Ellen DeGeneres’s wife Portia de Rossi.

“They (the producers) have approached Portia to do it. I don’t think she is going to do it, but she was flattered that they asked her,” DeGeneres confirmed, although it was not clear whether they asked her to dance with a male or female partner.

Insiders close to the show told Pop Tarts that a same-sex couple will “never happen” in the U.S – at least not yet.

“ABC and Disney are afraid of the negative backlash from viewers after watching a same-sex couple
grind on stage,” explained our snitch. “Middle America isn’t there yet – and judging by the conservatives who voted to keep Bristol in the competition, a same-sex rumba won’t happen anytime soon – at least not in the ‘Disney’ funded ballroom.”

A rep for “DWTS” did not respond for comment.

Entertainment industry expert John Ziegler concurred that it would be a bad move on ABC’s part to feature a same-sex dance couple.

“The show just got a huge boost of ‘Middle America’ viewers with the success of Bristol Palin. They are not going to blow that, especially when there is no need,” he said. “The show is on a roll and Margaret Cho’s overt lesbianism did not resonate with viewers. [She was the third contestant to be eliminated this past season.] The gay community is already watching, this would be a stupid ratings move, unless of course the same sex couple involved two hot women!”

Not everyone thinks featuring two male or female partners on “DWTS” is necessarily a bad move — including one of the show’s hosts.

“I fully support that and I think America is ready for that,” the show’s judge Carrie Ann Inaba told People.com. “Our country is much more accepting of same sex couples and it would be great for the show to reflect that.”

So, what do you think? Would you be open to the idea of a Same sex couple dancing on the show? I wouldn’t care one way or the other. I would have more issues if they brought someone in connected to politics again. Though Bill Clinton would be an exception! :D (thanks Zach for that idea that I won’t be able to get out of my head now. lol)

Moving on…. On-line WSJ is reporting that because of Jennifer’s reign on DWTS, “Dirty dancing” has gained more followers. Are we surprised? Here’s a take. Note how “Glee” plans to feature a “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” in a future episode.

The year 2010 is beginning to look a lot like 1987, thanks to the return of “Dirty Dancing.” The film’s star, Jennifer Grey, made headlines last week for winning “Dancing with the Stars.” Its anthem, “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” will be featured on “Glee” in the coming weeks while a new version called “The Time (Dirty Bit),” recorded by the Black Eyed Peas, is in the iTunes top five.

According to PageData, a company that tracks metrics and trends on Facebook, the film has more than 6.3 million fans on the site, ranking it sixth among movies. That’s just below mega leaders like “Twilight” and “Harry Potter,” but above “Avatar,” which clocks in at 3.9 million fans.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment Executive Vice President Anne Parducci said the film gets about 150,000 new Facebook fans each week.

“It’s really just people saying they love the movie, they love Patrick [Swayze], they love, love, love everything,” said Ms. Parducci. “There is an innocence to the movie that is so endearing. My 16-year-old daughter says to me, ‘I wish I could live back then.’”

Corky and Lacey were in the Hollywood Christmas parade this last Sunday. You can see them at the 7:37 mark in the video below.

Ok, that is all for you for now. More soon!! ;) xxxx

DWTS Season 10 – Finale Week Costuming

Randal Christensen had some “behind the seams dish” to dish about with Stylelist again. Here’s a take for what went on with the costumes for the finale nights. Be sure to read more at the link.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas: Christensen was amused when the teen activist tossed the tricked-out gorilla suit she wore earlier this season. “It served its purpose and was so last week,” he deadpans. “It was a funny moment and a fun jab at the last time they jived.” Besides, Christensen was more focused on the blinged-out blue jacket he designed for Ballas. “I was surprised we made it to the finale before he asked for it. He loves his bling-encrusted costumes.”

As for Palin’s sexy, lace freestyle booty short bodysuit, Christensen says the teen activist was in complete charge of her look. She asked for fringe to be added to the suit and loved her blinged-out boots and fishnet stockings. “It was fun seeing Bristol’s confidence grow each week,” says Christensen.

Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer: The teen stars freestyle “Tootsie Roll” rapper medallion was hand-made by a crafty member of Christensen’s team who used gold foil lycra layered over plastic which was tacked on to keep Massey from chipping his teeth while he danced. Really! As for their bright-yellow sneakers: “We’re lucky we are in Hollywood where you can still find that kind of ’90′s thing around,” he says.

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough: Hough was so pleased with Grey’s lattice-backed paso doble dress he twirled her around to praise Christensen’s design on national television. The compliment was, “quite thrilling actually” says the designer, whose concept for the gown was to keep it sophisticated but theatrical with the daringly low back. “The splash of garnet silk satin was especially effective when it was ripped off to be Derek’s matador cape,” he notes.

Grey made a deliberate decision not to imitate her signature “Dirty Dancing” finale performance instead dancing to “Mashed Potato” another song from the iconic film. “We were quite seriously paying homage to ‘Baby’ while trying to put a bit of originality into the costume,” says Christensen. And while Grey boasts “rock hard” abs at 50, Christensen added a panel of nude mesh to her hot pink two piece to “make sure she was comfortable.” Scattered crystals finished the look.

I loved Jennifer and Derek’s choices. Jennifer’s gold fringe costume had “Champion” written all over it from the get go. So, who had your favorite costumes for the finale?

Randall Christensen also dished on his favorite Finale costumes of all time on the show so far. See what costumes he picked in a cool slide gallery >>> HERE!

So, I wonder what Randall Christensen will have in store for DWTS Season 12? I wrap this post up with this little memory I don’t think we’ll ever soon forget. lol

Len Goodman to Kyle Massey: It was as though you were engulfed in a huge feather duster and you kept popping out here and there.

LOL!

So, how is everyone doing today? I hope well. Just a few media things to share with you. First up, don’t forget Cheryl and Derek will be performing on “Live With Regis and Kelly” this week at the Wynn in Las Vegas on TUESDAY!! Check your local TV affiliates for the exact time of the show. Cheryl posted this on twitter last night. Sounds like they are having fun while waiting.

Didn’t know u can get into a club in vegas with uggs and sweat pants!! Lol! Let’s get it @makeupjojo and @OfficialDHough. So much fun!!
@CherylBurke
Cheryl Burke

Here is an interview I missed posting before the show of Kyle and his brother on PopstopTV. I thought it was interesting to note about what they said on Bristol and the media and if they have been too mean to her this season. Is the media mean to everyone or did Bristol have it coming?

When you have politics involved, it’s bound to get dicey at times in my opinion. Hopefully, we won’t have to endure politicals again with the show. But, I’ve ran into several things out there with a mention on Christine O’Donnell being on the show next Season. From the NY Daily.

Thought you saw the last of Christine O’Donnell when she lost in the midterm elections? Think again.

The much-mocked Tea Party darling who was trounced in her bid for the Delaware Senate earlier this month is rumored to be under consideration for a spot on the next season of “Dancing with the Stars,” thanks to some behind-the-scenes help from Sarah Palin.

O’Donnell is a fan of the show, and tweeted her support for Bristol on Monday.

“I just voted for Bristol on DWTS!” she wrote, encouraging others to vote. “She’s enduring a lot & should be proud. It’s shameful the way she is being attacked.”

But even if Mama Palin wants to bring O’Donnell back into the spotlight, does anyone else think it would be a good fit?

ABC does, apparently.

“Christine is not a bad idea at all,” a network executive told Shuter. “After Kate Gosselin and Cloris Leachman, O’Donnell would fit right in. She certainly would be so controversial that the amount of press attention and buzz the show would get would be huge. Plus, you know they would make her dance in a witch’s hat with a broomstick.”

Fox News reports that O’Donnell would get at least $200,000 to appear on the show.

:o Please I hope they won’t go there! lol

So, who would you like to see for new contestants on the show next Season? I’m still wishing for Johnny Weir. I’d also like to see them approach David Cassidy, Susan Dey, or Shirley Jones.

Corky Ballas also had a few things to say on Bristol and the the results this week. Here is take from Radar On-line.

“Comparing her (Bristol) to Jennifer Grey was like a Volkswagen to Rolls Royce.”

“Everyone expected Jennifer to win,” he added, “Nobody puts baby in the corner; come on! She danced in Dirty Dancing. It would have been a joke if she didn’t win.”

Corky has trained many of Dancing with the Stars’ professionals including Karina Smirnoff, Julianne Hough, Derek Hough and Tony Dovolan.

This season, he partnered with Florence Henderson until she was eliminated in week five of the competition.

“No one was mad that Bristol lost,” Corky told RadarOnline.com. “At the end of the day, this is a TV show. People just had way too much invested in the show.”

While Corky took the dance floor on the season finale, he also found time to speak with Bristol’s mom, the former Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, during a backstage catch-up.

“I spoke with Sara and congratulated her on how well Bristol did,” Corky said.

“I told Sara that Bristol put on a brave face throughout this entire ordeal. Not only does the show kick your butt — with the dancing and training — Bristol had to deal with a lot of other stuff.”

“People called her names, saying she’s fat and calling her mother stupid.

“For that young woman to go out there like that and perform her butt off, that takes tenacity and thick skin. I tip my hat to Bristol.”

Ok, that is all for you for now. Have a great Sunday Everyone!!xx ;)

DWTS Season 11 – Post Media After The Finale

The DWTS fun continues. First up, Erin Andrews was interviewed about the finale this week by Movie Line. She discusses the judges’ weird scoring, Jennifer Grey’s pain tolerance, and the best moments of the season. Here is a take.

Did you think Bristol stood a shot of winning throughout the episode?I didn’t know because of the way it had gone all season. It was so unpredictable. The only thing I thought that was very telling was just how far apart the scores were. Jennifer had really separated herself and I was just thinking to myself, I remember sitting in the audience after I got the boot last year — I remember Evan was probably five points away from Nicole, and I was sitting next to Cheryl [Burke] and she was like, “It’s too much. He’s not going to be able to make it up; Nicole’s going to win.” I remember looking at Kyle and Bristol’s scores and thinking, “It’s too much of a lead. I don’t think Kyle’s going to win and I don’t think Bristol’s popularity votes will matter.” But then I kept saying to myself, “It can’t be this predictable, right? It can’t be this predictable. Something’s going to happen.” So I wasn’t surprised Bristol got there. In all honesty, of all the dancers left, I think third was the best spot for her. I don’t think she danced better than Kyle or Jennifer, but I congratulate her and think third place was a huge accomplishment for her.

Watching Kyle’s freestyle, I thought, “This is something Erin will love.”I loved it. I just really love his personality and was cheering for him. The one thing I will say about Kyle in the finale — I don’t agree with his scores. I don’t think he was scored correctly at all. I thought a lot of the stuff he did in the finale was right up there with Jennifer. I do agree with Jennifer’s scores though; I thought hers were perfect. But I don’t think he was scored high enough. That bothered me.

I thought the scoring was downright mysterious. Bristol was scoring straight 9s again? What?Oh, her freestyle? She got better scores on her freestyle than I did. I said, “Wow. That’s amazing.” It’s very interesting. I would love to know from the judges where they were coming from with the scoring. Even last night, the dances they did — Kyle got an 8 from Len, and Bristol got a 9 from Len. I was just curious where he was coming from. But that’s part of the whole thing; the [producers] don’t hold the judges accountable. They don’t need to explain their scores. I just don’t think Kyle was scored high enough.

There was plenty of ridiculousness in the finale. Any particularly cuckoo moments you liked most?I thought the finalists didn’t have any ridiculous moments, but I thought the skits were hysterical. I thought the David Hasselhoff thing was great. Nothing else struck me as, “Oh my gosh, this is ridiculous.” I did love the part — once I figured it out — the watermelon thing with Jennifer Grey. I thought it was perfect. “I carried a watermelon.” That came up again and again in my mind. I loved that Kyle and Lacey did the Tootsie Roll. It was phenomenal. He’s so stinkin’ cute. I think if anything, I’m bummed out. I mean, I’m happy with Jennifer winning, and I thought she was phenomenal — particularly for someone who ruptured her disc? That must’ve been some major drugs she was on. My dad has two herniated discs in his back, and he said, “Ruptured discs? How do you even walk right now?” I give her kudos for everything she put her body through. I just don’t think the scoring difference between her and Kyle should’ve been as great as it was. But I don’t mean to take the mirror ball trophy away from her — she was phenomenal.

Mark updated his blog on USA Today. Here are his thoughts on the finale. He also speaks of his future plans which you can read more on at the link.

I think I’m ready to sleep. For a week!

After the exhaustive 14 weeks of the show, which included not one day off, I didn’t know what to do with myself on Thanksgiving. Fortunately, I was able to sleep in and spend the day with family and friends. After a nice meal, I went to see a movie with my mom and Derek (Hough). It’s great to have the time again to spend with family!

The whirlwind of Tuesday night’s finale lasted for 24 hours. Immediately following the end of the show, we did press in the ballroom. Then we hopped a plane for a red-eye flight to New York. As you can imagine, we really didn’t sleep much on the plane because of the excitement. With bloodshot eyes, we arrived and went directly to Good Morning America for our live segment. That was followed up by a visit on The View, then straight back to the airport to fly back home. I was only gone for 21 hours. That’s crazy!

When I was headed to the airport in NYC, I said goodbye to Bristol. It played out like a sad movie scene: The door closed to the car and she placed her hand on the window after we waved goodbye, and the car sped away with me looking back, Bristol getting smaller and disappearing in the horizon.

Sure that’s a little dramatic, but I’m really going to miss my time with Bristol. It’s not possible to live and experience what we went through and not remain close or miss each other afterward. This really was the most memorable season for me and I’m sad that it’s over.

Mark also posted this fun picture of himself and Derek for their “annual Christmas card noting how many championships their extended family has to its name”. He also posted a picture of his Mom, Shirley (who has helped 9 of the current DWTS pros). Be sure to see it too at the link.

Speaking of pictures, here’s one Brandy posted on her twitter of her and Maks where she said, “You will forever be my champion!! Love you so much:) ” (a little “awww” moment there :) )

Zap2it has a fun Photo Gallery up of all the best and worst moments on the show this year. Be sure to see it HERE !!!

Jennifer was also interview by Zap2it. Here is take of her talking about her injuries this week before showtime.

“I think it might have been one of those flips or kicks or splits,” Grey says, with a blue icepack slid behind her tasseled pants. “When you dance with a 25-year-old, it’s a risk you take.”

But now that show is over, so is any anxiety over the toll on her body. Thanking Derek, her family and the fans, Grey is quick to point out the small group who really kept her in the game. “My doctors kept putting me together,” she says.

Looking back on the experience, Grey says that, win or lose, she got what she wanted from the series. “The destination for me was the journey,” she says, “and in the truest since of the word, this journey was the gift… It’s so much fun, glamour and sillyniess. It’s a great gift to be part of a show that gives people so much joy.”

Lastly, don’t miss seeing this funny skif of Tom Bergeron on the Jimmy Kimmel Show this week if you missed it. “The Burden of being Tom Bergeron”. lol ;

Ok, that is all for now! Dance the day or night away whichever is best!! ;) xxx

DWTS Season 11, Week 10 – Media After Tuesday’s Final Show

Hey Guys!! Just because Season 10 has ended, don’t think for a second this site has closed down. We will try and fulfill your dancing needs all winter and ours too. Besides rumors will start surfacing soon. In fact, I think Heidi has one rumor she’s been keeping wrapped tight waiting for just the perfect moment to disclose it. Plus, you never know what’s in store for gossip, news, “Who wore it better posts”, and more. So, stick around if you know what’s good. ;) With that said, here’s some fun media to share after our winning couple was crowned lastnight.

Derek and Jennifer being interviewed by The Insider;

A great wrap of of the night with ABC. Note what Bristol said on her “middle finger”.;

Kyle and Lacey being interviewed by Access Hollywood.

ET covering the night backstage;

Bristol talking some more on her “middle finger” with Access Hollywood (this makes me furious, not cool in my opinion). She says she’s had a lot of “offers” too. Hmmm….

Access Hollywood interviewing Jennifer and Derek after being crowned;

And here are our three finalists on Good Morning America today dancing and more. This is fun!;

Good Morning America also showed Maks and Robin Roberts finally doing their Cha Cha Cha together in honor of her 50th birthday. This makes me want to see more of her. Wouldn’t it be cool if she became a future contestant on the show? “Venturing out of your comfort zone” is good. :D ;

Lastly, here is our winning couple on the Jimmy Kimmel show lastnight;

Ok, more later All!! Wow, what a night and one of the best finales ever (imo)!! Vin you put it so well;

Last night’s finale was sick!!!

SPOILERS!!! DWTS11 Finale – The Results

Well, despite my worries, Armageddon did not occur after the results were announced :-)

Ok, now that I’ve wasted enough space for those following on Twitter – JENNIFER WON!!! YAYYY!!! I’m sure Heidi is coughing weakly between hoots & hollers from her bed – she is sick, folks, which is why I’m covering the results post.  But what a “feel better!” present for both her and Jennifer, who managed to soldier through tonight despite a back injury! So happy for both her and Derek…and congrats as well to both Kyle & Lacey and Bristol & Mark! Admittedly, I was skeptical going into tonight’s show – but I feel like each and every one of them got out there and danced their hearts out tonight, even Bristol.  Was actually quite nice to see her kind of let go and enjoy herself, without the worry of what people will think of her…amazing how well things turn out when you just say “forget about it” and dance :-) I have a feeling I may have enjoyed her more had she danced like that the whole season!

Overall, I feel like things played out as they should have – Bristol in 3rd, Kyle in 2nd, and Jennifer won.  I’m sure there will be plenty of disagreement, but that’s ok – if this season has taught us anything, it’s that we all have very, VERY different opinions…and that the world won’t end if we don’t agree on something.  Such as some of the returning stars performances tonight – oy vey.  I don’t want to say too much (gotta save it for the cheesecake!), but some of those dances had me slack-jawed – and not in a good way.  They really seemed to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for performance ideas for the finale! Kinda unfortunate.

Anywho, there’s celebrating to be done, regardless of who you were rooting for – a very controversial season has drawn to a close (without too much ado), and there’s a holiday just around the corner.  And some tasty cheesecake headed your way soon! So talk it all out…but please, be nice.  No rioting for poor John & Vogue to clean up after – Heidi’s already hit the hay, and I’m headed there myself.  Screw adult jobs ;-)

DWTS Season 11, The Finale – Dancing by the Numbers (Sorta)

I say sorta because we only have half the judges scores at this point. :-)

Well it’s the last one for the year. And I can’t say I’m all that upset about it, although I did enjoy last night much more than I thought I would.

Regardless of what happens tonight, I think the actual winners are Jennifer and Derek, followed closely by Kyle and Lacey with Bristol and Mark a distant third. Will that be the outcome?? Well, it’s still hard to say. As I’ve been preaching all along, Bristol hasn’t needed huge percentages in order to stay. We’ve yet to get a real feel for the size of her fanbase. Her biggest margin she’s had to overcome was 1.93% and I can tell you right now that the margin between her and Jennifer going into the show tonight is more than double that. I tend to think that Bristol and Kyle are fighting for second, but we shall see. It could be Kyle and Jennifer fighting for first. Every single poll I’ve seen has Jennifer in first place – but you all know how I feel about internet polls (and Dial Idol). No respect at all. ;-) There is also a possible Bristol backlash to consider – hence the extremely tied up phones and internet until nearly 1 am central time last night. Everyone and their brother was voting. Now, I tend to think that the problems were universal and not limited to any one couple – logic dictates. But again, who knows? Here’s how our contestants rank going into two more dances tonight:

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Jennifer 60 35.71
2. Kyle 56 33.33
3. Bristol 52 30.95

As you can see, Bristol and Kyle both have serious ground to make up – and I can tell you right now that some seriously wacky scores would be required to get significant help from the judges. Jennifer would have to do badly in both dances and Bristol would have to knock it out of the park. So, if there were no more dances, what does Bristol have to do to WIN??

- She would have to get 23,900 more votes per million votes cast to pass Kyle, AND;
- She would have to get 48,000 more votes per million votes cast to pass Jennifer and Win.

Can she do that? I honestly don’t think so, but you just never know. Which group of fans had the most patience PLUS who was the average, everyday, pick up one phone person, voting for?? What about Kyle? What does he have to do with win??

- He needs for Bristol to NOT get the 23,900 more votes per million cast, AND;
- He needs 24,000 more votes per million votes cast than Jennifer to pass her and take the trophy.

I think Kyle’s odds are marginally better than Bristol’s, but I don’t think he’s going to pass Jennifer. Perhaps I’m relying a bit too much on conventional wisdom here and not giving crazy voters enough credit. I dunno. I just do the math – you decide if it’s possible. :-)

As you all also know, there are two more dances (and, hence, two more scores) to consider. And anything can happen there. But let’s take a WILD guess and say that the scoring goes about how it did last night. Jennifer gets two 30s, Kyle gets a 30 and a 28 (one dance is ranked so there’s only one 30 to give out), and Bristol gets a 27 and a 26 (again, rank).

If it goes down like that, there is very little change – Kyle needs a few MORE votes to beat Jennifer, and Bristol needs fewer (44,700). Bristol would also need about 6k fewer votes to beat Kyle into second place (17.8k versus 23.8k).

What happens if the judges throw a wrench into the process and switch Jennifer and Kyle on the ranked Insta-dance (or whichever dance is ranked), but Bristol remains the same? Then Kyle only needs a little less than 15k more votes per million to beat Jennifer.

I can’t imagine them going higher than a 27 for Bristol, but what if?? What if Jennifer maintains her 30, but Bristol gets one too? It sounds utterly ridiculous, but those are our judges after all. If Jennifer get a total of 120 (4×30) for the two nights, Kyle gets a 30 and a 28 in addition to his 56, and Bristol gets a 30 and a 26 in addition to her 52?? For Bristol to win she would need:

- 35,100 (3.51%) more votes per million votes cast to beat Jennifer, AND;
- 17,600 (1.76%) more votes per million votes cast to pass Kyle and Win.

For Kyle to Win he would need for Bristol to NOT get her 17,6k votes and he would need 17.6k more votes per million votes cast than Jennifer.

At the end of the day, I have no clue what is going to happen. Based on those numbers and all kinds of strictly anecdotal evidence, such as Bristol backlash and random polls, I’m going to call it for Jennifer with Kyle second and Bristol taking 3rd. I would not be at ALL surprised to be wrong. Not in the slightest. I’ll tell you what though, if Jennifer can’t win, then I want it to be Kyle. If Bristol wins…well, I’ll be posting a picture of Fonzie (aka DWTS) jumping over a shark. The tipping point where cult of personality matters more (as opposed to being relatively equal) than any kind of talent whatsoever.

What say you??

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing with the Stars Voting Issues and Rigging the Results

My twitter accounts (@tvblog and @puredwts) are getting flooded with people that are angry at the issues they had with voting for the final 3 couples on Dancing with the Stars last night. It seems like the voting issues were better this morning, but people are still upset. This same sentiment has poured over into the comments for this site and even many to my email account. Here’s a sample from an email I got:

Hi John. What is going on?

Last night I could not sign in to vote, just kept getting: ‘Ooops! There is a problem. Try again’. I spent well over an hour trying to sign in to vote, with no success. I have been voting for nine seasons, and never had any problem before. My neighbour also could not vote. Same message, and reading the comments and blogs it seems we were not alone. This is not fair. I do not want to believe all the nonsence about the ‘tea party’ swamping the voting, but if Bristol wins tonight, there is going to be a lot more speculation that this season was rigged.

Here’s my reply to that email which I think is worth sharing here on Pure DWTS:

It’s hard to say what was going on. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen ABC address it anywhere. No doubt there were some major issues last night.

My consolation is that the voting was bad for supporters for all the couples. So, I don’t think that will have as big of an impact on the voting as one might think.

Certainly some are saying that it’s the Tea Party overwhelming the phones and website. I guess that’s a possibility, but I think you could just as easily make the argument that it’s the Jennifer and Kyle fans and the anti-tea party people that are doing the overwhelming response. The results tonight will likely show this.

Many will continue to speculate that it’s rigged. I just don’t see any reason the show would rig it. I think the producers will be fine with any outcome. Think about it from the producers perspective:
Jennifer Wins – All will be right in the universe since the best dancer won (or something like that). The producers will be happy that the DWTS purists are happy the dancer won.
Bristol Wins – They get to tell the story that Anyone has a chance to win the show, not just the dancers (which is the common complaint). Plus, they can tell the whole “growth” story.
Kyle Wins – I haven’t seen anyone predicting this. That’s what would make the producers so happy. If Kyle wins EVERYONE will be shocked (probably even the Kyle and Lacey fans).

Basically, the producers are in a great position where they will be able to tell a great story no matter what happens. So, why would they spend any time rigging the DWTS results? Not to mention there are major legal issues if they are doing something to rig DWTS.

Go and check out Heidi and Courtney’s in depth analysis of the possible DWTS season 11 winner results. If you care about DWTS at all, then you’ll find their thoughts very interesting.

DISCLAIMER: Pure DWTS is just a DWTS Fan site and has no connection implied or otherwise to ABC, Dancing with the Stars, etc etc etc.
