Today, former Dancing With The Stars pro Edyta Sliwinska tweeted out an instagram of herself with news that she’s been keeping a secret and one that is “less than 2 lbs little”, People.com has now picked up the story. What’s more, they asked her about it.
Edyta Sliwinska and Alec Mazo, the former Dancing with the Stars professionals, are expecting their first child early next year, the couple confirm to PEOPLE.
“I’m due in January and we are having a boy,” Sliwinska, 32, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “We’ve been together for 13 years; married for six. We were both so ready for it and we’ve been planning on this for the past couple of years.”
Isn’t this awesome?!! From all of us at PureDWTS, congratulations Edyta and Alec!!
A few of our readers had some really good questions to ask Dancing With The Stars Pro Sharna Burgess. Sharna answers questions about the most important things she’s learned once she became a pro on Dancing With The Stars. Sharna also takes us through the process of how she assesses her partner’s dance potential. She also chats on her pre-show rituals, her guilty pleasures, her dance mentors, and how she learned to choreograph for television and the movies. Lots more below. Enjoy! Thanks Sharna for another awesome interview!!xx
What was the one most important thing that you learned about yourself once you became a pro on the show?
hmmm, thats tough! I think i learned greater patience, though I’ve always been a patient person, this show requires SO much of it. Patience is an art and a gift, and in tough situations it helps me stay calm, not sweat the small stuff and keep moving forward. Im such a passionate person that if my partner is not into it 150% i can become very frustrated. Dancing only works when you surrender to it and go all in, messing up is fine, but not trying is unacceptable. In saying that i have to remember that what can see like disinterest and disregard, is actually fear, and that is something that needs patience and nurturing if its going to be beaten.
Please tell Sharna I think she’s an excellent competing pro, and I love her innovative choreography.
When you begin rehearsing with your new celeb, how do you begin to assess their dance potential? Do you start without music and see how they handle some basic Latin or standard steps, or do you put some music on the CD player and see how they move to music?
Dancing With The Stars Sharna Burgess had such a great time dancing for “Dancing Like The Pros” last week in Niagara Falls at the Fallsview Casino in Canada. At the time we reported about it, there wasn’t much out there except from Edyta Sliwinska at twitter. In case you don’t know, Edyta along with her husband Alec Mazo helped to put on the show. The two are former Dancing With The Stars pros. Along with Sharna, the full cast included Antonina Skobina, Denys Drozdyuk, Daniella Karagach, Joanna Pacitti, Paul Barris, Anna Rosh, Jean Marc Genereux, Artur Adamski, Laurence Bolduc, Jean-Philippe Milot, Alex Karaulov and Vlada Semenova. Dancing With The Stars Kym Johnson also helped to judge the event. Sharna danced with Paul Barris and ended up WINNING!! Below are some fun photos from Dancing Pros Facebook and Sharna’s twitter….
And that’s not all! We were able to ask Sharna a few questions about what it was like dancing for “Dancing With The Pros” and the upcoming new season of Dancing With The Stars. Below is the new interview. Enjoy and we thank Sharna and her publicist for helping us put this together.
Hey Sharna, tell us about your recent trip to Niagara Falls and what it was like dancing for “Dancing Like the Pros”? Was it your first trip to Niagara Falls? Did you get to visit Niagara Falls or do anything else while you are there?
Niagra falls was beautiful as always. Such incredible standing there not just hearing but feeling the weather and the power is possesses. I’ve been there once before while I was on tour, and it was still amazing the second time round.
There was no time to do anything while I was there, we were performing two shows a day at the falls view casino. Dancing like the pros is a show put together by DWTS alums Alec and Edyta. I love these two, great people, super talented and genuinely love what they do. Getting to know them was wonderful and being a part of their show was a lot of fun. Kym Johnson was there with us as a judge, and she was so good at it!! Future Dwts judge maybe 😉 I’m just putting it out there, right now she is way too special as a pro.
Are you excited about the new season of Dancing with the Stars coming up? Anyone you would love to see in the new cast of celebs or anyone you would love to dance with?
I’m super excited about this season!!! I’m so itching to get back in the ballroom and create some magic I’m already picking songs and themes and getting my head around some really cool group number concepts.
I would love to have Victor Cruz or John Stamos. But If I could shoot for the stars on my Dwts wish list it would totally be Hugh Hackman or Bradley Cooper :)))
See you all soon!! Well… Fingers crossed 😉
Yes, FINGERS CROSSED!! We hope we see you back too, Sharna, and to see everything you have planned!! I love the idea of Kym Johnson being a judge for Dancing With The Stars too! And oh, Hugh Jackman! Can you imagine if he were to dance?! 😀
6.) Ingo & Kym – Not sure quite what to make of these two – they’re very likeable and seem to have great chemistry, Ingo seems willing to work hard and eager to do well, and Kym, as always, is a very patient, nurturing teacher that brings out the best in her partners. But while everything seems pretty on the surface, I can’t shake the feeling that Ingo may be a bit…awkward. The rehearsal video and the pix we’ve seen so far seem to reveal some “Ralph hands”, and Ingo himself has admitted that he’s not exactly a graceful guy. I’m also seeing shades of him taking things just a little too seriously – and we’ve seen how being a little too serious and a little too desperate to do well can torpedo a couple’s chances of getting votes. Now don’t get me wrong – compared to some of the couples on the bottom half of the list (namely D.L. & Cheryl, and possibly Sean & Peta), Ingo & Kym have a great connection and “taking things a little too seriously” is less of a problem than, say, having zero chemistry with your partner or having a partner that just doesn’t seem to give a hoot 😛 I just don’t know that Ingo & Kym are going to coast through this season like Hines & Kym did. Fanbase-wise? I’m inclined to say that Ingo will benefit somewhat from the “soap vote”, although likely not to the degree Kelly did – since Ingo’s character on GH seems to only be recurring at this point, I don’t know that he’ll have as many of the same impassioned fans that voted for Kelly, also voting for him. We already know Kym is pretty well-loved, so her fanbase should help out somewhat…but I think overall, these two will probably be more on-par with the Cameron Mathison/Edyta partnership, rather than the Kelly/Val one. There are just too many more popular celebs (likely with better dance skills) this season for a soap star to really have a hope and a prayer of making it to the finale, methinks. Read more..
I know we’re all still reeling from the whiplash of Pro Watch – old pros are sitting this one out, entirely new pros are being brought in, troupe members are getting promoted, and the status of some pros seems to change from “out” to “in” and back again on a daily basis. The general question on everyone’s lip: “WTF is going on at DWTS??!!!”
While I don’t have a ton of insider info about what’s going on with the casting (even the insiders seem to be somewhat in the dark this season!), I do have a theory or two, and some knowledge of previous seasons to help back up said theories – and I’m about to share one with you that may or may not put things in perspective, and may or may not help ease your concerns…but it’s one that at least makes some sense, given what we’ve seen unfolding the past week or so and what we know of previous seasons. Take it with a biiiiig grain of salt, as I’m not 100% confident in the veracity of some of the claims made in it. And Maks fans of the hypersensitive persuasion should probably just stop reading right now.
First, let’s go back in time to about 2.5 years ago – the week or so leading up to the season 11 cast annoucement. Lacey had tweeted something cranky (and characteristically “Lacey”) about not being part of that season’s cast, and we were led to believe that she would be sitting that season out. About 36-48 hours later, we were smacked in the face by the news that Edyta had suddenly quit DWTS, and Lacey was then excitedly tweeting that she was back in as one of the pros. What happened??? Allegedly (and I’m using this as a precaution, as the info I’m about to share has been culled from multiple sources – some more credible than others, and not all of it matches up), Edyta had tried leveraging in her negotiations with TPTB – some think she was upset that her husband Alec wasn’t getting asked back as a pro, some say she was upset about the partner she got (which confuses me – read on), some say she was holding out for more $$$, who knows. Whatever it was, I guess Edyta tried to throw her weight around as the longest-tenured pro on the show (at the time) and gave the producers an ultimatum: “You give me [insert demand here] or I quit.” To which the producers replied, “K, bye then!” I’m guessing Edyta wasn’t expecting them to call her bluff, and she also doesn’t strike me as the type who will swallow their pride easily, so of course, she had to follow through on her promise, and out she went. As my family and I are enjoying this wonderful Christmas season, I started dreaming about what I’d want for Christmas when it comes to Dancing with the Stars. Yes, I know this is all a dream, but the two best parts of Christmas for me are: giving something something they dream about and dreaming of all the wonderful possibilities.
With that in mind, these are my top two DWTS Christmas dreams:
1. A waltz with Chelsie Hightower
2. A rumba with Edyta Sliwinska
Two beautiful dances with two beautiful dancers! Can you imagine?
As I write this post, it makes me wonder why they’ve never put together a Dancing with the Stars Pros Christmas special. It would be amazing to see the DWTS pros choreograph dances to my Christmas favorites. All I ask if they steal my idea, is one dance with Chelsie and one with Edyta;-)
I wish all of you a Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas!
This season, we opted to do things a bit differently – as we have with just about every other regular feature we do each season, since the format is a bit wacky, to say the least 😛 First, we’ve divided WWIB into two parts – mainly to accomodate the fact that Kirstie & Maks’ and the 13th couple’s (who we now know to be Sabrina & Louis) promo photos have yet to be released, but also to buy us some time for the labor-intensive task of finding good pictures for some of these Secondly, we’ve included the couples’ promo photos from their original seasons for comparison as well. But as always, we’ve offered up our usual snark commentary on each of the costumes, for your enjoyment 😎
Battle of the turquoise & black lace corset dress/Kelly & Alec vs. Kelly & Val: Kelly & Alec’s season 1 promo pic vs. Kelly & Val’s season 15 promo pic vs. Edyta in the season 9 pro tango demo
Courtney: The Iceman cometh! Wow, even Alec’s promo pic screams “I have no emotions” to me. And while Kelly is a bit better, I still wish she’d actually smile in her promo pics – the whole “smoldery non-smile” she does just seems like she’s trying too hard to me. And I’m probably the only one that feels this way, judging from some of everyone’s initial comments on the promo photos, but I’m not really all that wild about Kelly & Val’s pic…you’ll see I’m not much of a fan of the couples that went the “smoldery” route with their promo pix. As for the costume itself – gotta go with Edyta on this one. Granted, it’s hard to hold a candle to Edyta in pretty much ANY costume, but I think I like it better with a lace skirt, as opposed to a fringed one. And while I was cursing under my breath while putting this edition together about how BAD some of the costumes have gotten since Randall left, I thank my lucky stars we’re not still stuck with Designs to Shine, who costumed the first season. Can we say “tacky”? 😯
Heidi: Val sez, “You…are sooo sexy.” To which Kelly sez, “You are sexy, but I am sleeping with my cousin’s best friend’s husband’s brother and am simply toying with you as a cover to hide our true looove….” That is my long winded way of saying, Kelly is a soap actress…they only do smolder. Sometimes well, sometimes not – and Val is a huge step up from Alec in terms of emotion and Kelly has evolved to smoldering with her mouth *closed*. The dress you ask? I go with Edyta sans fishnets. Although I think it’s cuter in the shorter length.
The verdict: Just say no to soap opera smolder. Read more..
Since they just aired season 5 on GSN, I figured I would do a little numbers retrospective – particularly because of the supposed “shocking” elimination of Sabrina and the horribly prolonged run of Marie Osmond.
I have to say, after watching Sabrina dance again, I have to agree with Len and Bruno when they commented on how she danced her foxtrot “too hard” – it was way too hard and she did miss a couple steps. Combine that with the talent and/or name recognition of her competitors, then is it really a surprise? Perhaps so, since Jane had been in the bottom two the week before. But everyone but perhaps Helio and Mel B was much better known with the DWTS demographic than Sabrina was – and Mel B was a better dancer and Helio was a huge and charming personality. Anyway, at the end of the night, week 6, the scores looked like this:
The Judges Scores and Percentages
Now, what these scores mean should be somewhat obvious to longtime readers of this series – Sabrina was not at the bottom of the leader board and, in fact, had a pretty decent lead on Marie and Jane and was tied with Cameron. In order for Sabrina to be eliminated, the following had to happen:
– She didn’t cover the spread of the dancers above her, AND;
– Cameron got ONE more vote per million votes cast than her, AND:
– Marie got 11,150 more votes per million votes cast than she did, AND;
– Jane got 16,700 more votes per million votes cast than she did.
Now, conventional wisdom has always said that Sabrina fans got over confident or were sure she was safe. But look at those numbers. That’s a good bit of overconfident and I’m not sure I believe it any longer. Marie’s faint was the week before, but there is no reason that Jane should go from a bottom two situation the week before to being safe at Sabrina’s expense the very next week. She made up a pretty big deficit. I’m inclined to believe that, like other lesser knowns before her, Sabrina didn’t have the fanbase that many believed. And we all know by now that great dancing isn’t always enough. And in case you still don’t agree – Sabrina was the high scorer in 3 of the 5 previous weeks. The two weeks she wasn’t the high score, she was in second place. The instant she falls out of the top 2, she’s eliminated. Coincidence?? Read more..
Ahhhh, yes – the cha-cha. The only first week dance that has remained the same in all 14 seasons of the show – they’ve often vacillated between the waltz, foxtrot, and Viennese waltz as the first week ballroom dance from season to season, but they’ve always had the cha-cha as a week 1 Latin dance. That’s 75 regular week 1 cha-cha’s (I’m not counting the cha-cha relay from season 9 – the scoring is too funky) for me to run the stats on, to give us an idea of what we might expect in the coming week So before I run down the list of the biggest “Oh god, that was baaaaaad!” week 1 cha-cha moments, here are a few interesting cha-cha stats:
*The lowest cha-cha score in DWTS history is 12 – and it’s a 3-way tie between Master P & Ashly, Tucker & Elena, and Jeff & Edyta. Two of the couples were eliminated the first week of their respective seasons – and all 3 female pros are no longer on the show (ok, that last one was probably not a direct cause of a bad cha-cha, but just an interesting coincidence ;-))
*Five former DWTS champions did cha-cha as their week 1 dance (Drew, Emmitt, Apolo, Brooke, & Hines).
*The pro who’s done the most week 1 cha-cha’s is Cheryl – she’s started 9 of her 12 seasons on the show with a cha-cha.
*A female celeb didn’t dance the cha-cha as a week 1 dance until season 5 – up until that point, the ladies had always done a ballroom dance the first week, and the men had always done cha-cha.
Now…without further ado…I give you the worst week 1 cha-cha’s in DWTS history Season 14 celebs, pay attention! This is for your own good…do not try to emulate these routines!
10.) Clyde & Elena, season 4
I never got the feeling that Clyde was actually making a genuine effort during his season, really. I think his handlers probably signed him up for the show just to get him some exposure, and it was never something Clyde really wanted to do – he just seemed to do the bare minimum each week and probably hoped to get voted off quickly. His whole “outrage” over Len pointing out that some couples weren’t practicing enough just really made me think that Clyde the Glide doth protest too much – he wasn’t putting in the hours and he knew it. On top of the apathy, there was a huge height difference between he & Elena, and at 6’7″, he was generally just kinda ungainly…add that altogether and you’ve got a cha-cha that’s just kind of an awkward non-event.
9.) Billy Ray & Karina, season 4
I’m not sure who I feel worse for here – Billy Ray or Karina. Billy Ray really was kind of “a left-footed hillbilly from Kentucky” (his own words), and this cha-cha was a pretty hot mess. I like to call this “drunk uncle at a wedding” dancing – some random grooving & flailing & forgotten footwork from Billy Ray while Karina did some cha-cha around him. But I will say this – unlike Clyde, who had probably phoned it in before the season even started, I do think Billy Ray was giving it his all the entire season. This poor guy REALLY wanted to do well for Karina, and he did put in the effort – but some people are just not natural dancers, and Billy Ray is unfortunately in that camp. Read more..
