PureDWTS Media Tidbits: A Beach Party, Lots Of Forever Tango Reviews, Judge Returning

Good Monday All! How are you and are you anxious for the new season of Dancing With The Stars to start yet?

Just a few media things to share today. First up, according to this tweet Carrie Ann Inaba will be returning as a judge for the new season of Dancing With The Stars. I’m not sure what to think. I’m ready for some new blood in this area especially in Carrie Ann’s and Len’s spot, but, hey.

Dance pros Karina Smirnoff and Maks Chmerkovskiy continue to make waves in the Broadway world in “Forever Tango”. There are some raving reviews out there and some not so raving reviews out there. To read and see some awesome photos, see these links….

“The show is called Forever Tango, and they weren’t kidding with that title….” via Hollywood Reporter Thanks to Miss Heidi for this one)

“Think of the show as an Argentinian tasting menu of music, moves, mystery and mucho sensuality — but without a 12-hour flight to Buenos Aires….” via The NY Daily

“The big draw of course — besides Santa Rosa — is former Dancing With the Stars (and formerly engaged) pair Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff, who perform in a handful of the dances to rapturous cheers from the crowd. The couple is, in a word, dazzling. Smirnoff glides beautifully, and Chmerkovskiy shakes his hips (and his booty) with such skill, it’s clear he was born with the talent….” via Entertainment Weekly

“Two pros from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ pull focus from the sultry moves and artistry….” via USA Today

“Performing routines choreographed by Horvath and Galoto, the popular duo perform with a more show-bizzy style; making more of an effort to play to the audience than their counterparts. Chmerkovskiy isn’t above clowning a bit with his partner’s skirt, granting peaks at his well-developed chest and shaking his fanny in the direction of squealing fans. I’ll leave it to the dance critics to evaluate the technique of each couple but the intense sexuality of Horvath and Galoto seems to exude more authenticity….” via Broadway World

“Both are comfortable here — having appeared in the 2009 ballroom extravaganza “Burn the Floor,” they’re Broadway vets by now — and they sure deliver something, if not traditional steps. With Karina, it’s a haughty stare and “Don’t mess with me” attitude. With Maks, it’s a bubble butt and hints of sculpted pecs….” via The NY Post

Lastly, there was a beach party over the weekend in which some of our dance pros and past contestants from Dancing With The Stars attended. You can see some cool pics of Cheryl Burke, Kelly Monaco, Chelsie Hightower, Mark Ballas, Peta Murgatroyd and more at the Daily Mail and Zimbio Pictures. Derek Hough was in attendance too. See Pure Derek Hough for some fun pictures of him.

And that is all for now. More later …I hope. xxx

ADDING: Here is a new interview with Maks and Karina with Hollywood TV. Thanks to @DWTSMaksimFans for this one. I love what Karina says about Dancing With The Stars and how it helped her and Maks get their roles in Forever Tango.

There are also some great pics of Maks and Karina taken over the weekend at Getty Images where they attended a “Celebrities Visit Broadway” celebration. Karina also attended a Major League Baseball’s All Star Bash. They also sprinkled “Forever Tango” cupcakes. See this link for more.

DWTS Karina Smirnoff And Maks Chmerkovskiy Come Full Circle (Forever Tango Premiere Media)

What a special treat for dancing fans and fans of Karina Smirnoff and Maks Chmerkovskiy!! The two Dancing With The Stars pros were interviewed on Good Morning America today for their three week run in Forever Tango. Karina looked stunning as always in a black and white lace dress and spiked heels. The women of the cast were wearing the same. Karina says the show is full a lot of passion. Maks talks of how special it is and how he and Karina “have come full circle” (*total awww moment). You can watch their interview in more detail and them dancing with the cast at Good Morning America at this link. Jimmbboe has coverage at his You Tube page (works for International viewers). Hotness!! For ticket information for how you can see the show, see Forever Tango.

Stay tuned. Maks and Karina also did a “Forever Tango” segment for Extra. It will be aired on the show today.

ADDING: The Washington Post has a great article on the show with Maks and Karina as well. Here is a take…

When they dance, there is something effortless about their movement. The slender, beautiful Ukrainian-born Smirnoff seems to melt inside the torso of the hunky, muscular Chmerkovskiy, also born in the Ukraine. They think their intimate past can actually aid the tango, which should be sexy if done right.

“I think it helps. With every dance, you go to your experience, to your emotion, whatever you can relate to. I think with Maks, we both can go to a place where —” Smirnoff says.

“No one’s been before,” Chmerkovskiy interjects with a laugh.

“Exactly. We had our ups and we had the lowest of the lows and we can take that into the dance and make it than much better,” his partner finishes.

“Aside from what transpired, I do have respect for her as a dancer. We went to a bad spot at one point or another but it’s been documented: I’ve never lost respect,” he adds. “I’ve always been looking forward to one day get this out of the way.”

ADDING2: And here they are on Extra with Tony Dovolani. Good stuff….

DWTS Karina Smirnoff And Maks Chmerkovskiy Interviewed And Teach Reporters How To Tango

We’re going to see some cool promo with Karina Smirnoff and Maks Chmerkovskiy in the next few days as they get ready to take to the stage Tuesday for Broadway’s “Forever Tango”. With that said, check out the New York Daily this morning. The two Dancing With the Stars pros taught some Tango moves to a few of their reporters. There are some cool pictures of them as well as a fun, 2 page write-up! Below is just a little take….

Despite all the hard work that goes into “Dancing With the Stars,” the numbers danced on the show only last around 90 seconds, max. In “Forever Tango,” Chmerkovskiy and Smirnoff will each have six-minute solo dances, along with two group dances lasting roughly the same length.

As our lesson began, we couldn’t help but notice how sweaty Chmerkovskiy and Smirnoff became after just a few minutes.

“I think the first two rows of the theater are going to be called the splash zone,” Chmerkovskiy jokes. “We’re going to provide complimentary towels.”

First, we learned what’s known as the basic eight-step tango, essentially creating a large square across the floor with forward cross steps and backward cross steps, coming together in position “cero,” with closed feet.

Pretty soon, however, these basic dance steps took a sensual turn. Smirnoff wrapped her leg around Justin’s torso to demonstrate a tango ending stance. While Justin struggled to conceal his delight, Chmerkovskiy drew Molly into a coordinated sliding lunge. He paused with her in mid-air to explain why the right pair of pants is so important to a tango master: “They might split.”

Lots more at the New York Daily. Nice!!

Forever Tango Preview, Karina Smirnoff Writing New Book, Across Grace Alley Update

Karina Smirnoff is not only about to take the stage with Maks Chmerkovskiy in Forever Tango. She’s also been writing a new book. Ok! Magazine asked her a little about what it’s about and here is how she responded.

“It will delve into questions people have often asked which I haven’t been able to answer,” she says. “It’s non-fiction with the stories where the names are a little twisted.”

So is this tell-all going to make Karina a few enemies?

“None of it is bad,” says the dancing pro. “It’s all fact. None of it is horrible. Some of this information is out already, some isn’t. A lot of times I’ve decided not to speak up and say certain things and address certain things and it’s not because I didn’t want to say bit, it’s because I wanted to step back and look at the situation and learn from it. Now that I have I’m ready to share those lessons.”

Karina, who has previously been engaged to baseball player Brad Penny and fellow DWTS star Maksim Chmerkovskiy, says the process of writing the book has made her look at life a little differently.

“The more you talk about it (your life), the more you realize,” she says. “The more you write the more you understand that people’s perception is their reality. It’s an interesting observation. I can’t say too much because I don’t want to give it all away but it’s a very eye-opening book for me while I was writing it and definitely for anyone who will read it.”

Cool, I can’t wait to buy this book. How about you? You can read the full article at Ok! Magazine. Don’t miss reading it because there is a brief mention about Karina’s new movie “Across Grace Alley” with Ralph Macchio as well.

By the way, stay tuned. Karina and Maks will be on Extra and Good Morning America on Monday to talk of their 3 week run in “Forever Tango”. They’ll also be on The View on Friday. For tickets, see this link. Here’s a little preview from Forever Tango….

DWTS Karina Smirnoff Makes ‘Forever Tango’ Rule With Maksim Chmerkovskiy

And the rule is, Maks has to listen to her!!! Below is more from USA Today from Karina Smirnoff on her new dance gig and working with Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

“The rule is he listens to me. And everything I ask for is the Golden Rule,” says Smirnoff. “He’s growing up. He’s becoming a very smart man. So I think he’s going to follow that rule very well.”

The two announced last week that they will perform the sensuous dance at Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theater July 9-24. The Dancing With the Stars standouts became engaged in 2009 before going through a very bitter break-up.

“Regardless of the personal history we’ve always enjoyed dancing together,” says Smirnoff. “And we’re both excited to do this project. Knowing the passionate history we have, either way it’s going to be exciting to watch.”

Let’s hope it works out. They are a very exciting team to watch indeed!!

ADDING: Be sure to check out the instagram in this tweet. It’s really fun…

DWTS Pros Karina Smirnoff And Maksim Chmerkovskiy To Dance In Forever Tango

Would you like to see Dancing With The Stars pros Karina Smirnoff And Maks Chmerkovskiy dance together again? If so, you’ll be able to do just that as the two have agreed to dance in the hit Broadway show “Forever Tango” from July 9th through the 28th. Below is more from People.com. For ticket information, visit this link.

“It is such an honor to have been given this opportunity to star on Broadway again,” Smirnoff said in a statement. “Forever Tango is an incredible production and the Tango is an intense, sensuous dance of passion. Asking Maks to join me was in and of itself intense, so I figured by opening night, it would be explosive!”

The pair, who originally met in a Broadway production of Burn the Floor, became engaged New Year’s Day 2009 in Las Vegas and then endured a very public and bitter breakup in October of the same year.

In Forever Tango, they’ll join guest vocalist Gilberto Santa Rosa, a five-time Grammy winner, and be done in plenty of time for the fall season of Dancing.

Pretty Cool! I’d love to see them dance in this show!! And stay tuned! Something might be up on GMA today with this news.

Anna Trebunskaya Dishes On Forever Tango And Dancing With The Stars (Dances too!)

Our beautiful and sweet pro, Anna Trebunskaya, was a guest on San Francisco’s 7Live yesterday to promote her dancing role in “Forever Tango”. It’s fascinating as she talked of how much she’s learning from the other dancers and the powerful energy of the show. She also talks of the differences in performing with professionals versus celebrities on Dancing With The Stars. Did you know her parents were dancers too? She mentions them as well. As for Dancing With The Stars, Anna says she doesn’t know if she will be returning yet and won’t know until the cast reveal on Feb. 28th (hmmm…that is so hard to believe?). She dishes about her partners and showcasing them. She wraps up with a Forever Tango performance. Too fun! For ticket information how you can see Anna dance in Forever Tango, see the link. (If the video below doesn’t come up for you, you can view at the link as well)

LOL! Don’t you just love Anna? She is beautiful as well as being a “ham”. The picture above is one she posted at her facebook while doing her make-up for her performance in Forever Tango. Currently, the show is in Miami, Florida. You can see more pics of her in her Forever Tango album here.
