Dancing With The Stars Pros Help Raise Thousands For Covenant Hospice

This past weekend, Dancing With The Stars pros Tony Dovolani, Karina Smirnoff, Tristan MacManus, Val Chmerkovski, Oksana Dmytrenko , Sasha Farber, and Emma Slater helped to raise over $12,000 dollars for Covenant Hospice at the 5th annual ‘Life’s a Dance’ event in Pensacola, Florida. You can view a few segments of the event and some coverage at ABC3 here and here.

PureDWTS reader Gail sent us some personal coverage as well. Below is Tristan with the ladies of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Pensacola. Gail tells us Tristan was sunburned, but, he was still in fine dancing form as you can see.

Fan Angela Anderson also attended the event. She’s been posting some awesome video coverage at her You Tube page of some of the dances. For instance, below is Oksana and Val!

However, it was not all work and no play for our pros!! There was some time for relaxing and fun in the Florida sun too. For instance, Emma Slater has been posting some breathtaking photos of she and Sasha enjoying some beach time. Be sure to take a look. They are beautiful and the white sand is so inviting. I am so in the mood to go to Florida again now. Who’s with me?

Special thanks to Gail and Angela for all the fantastic video coverage of this event. xx

“45 Minutes Of Fame” With Dancing With The Stars Tristan MacManus

Dancing With The Stars pro Tristan MacManus has been in Florida this past week making appearances and giving dance lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Florida. Lucky for us, PureDWTS reader Gail Conn and her friend Shannon have been going to the festivities. Here is Gail’s fun and magical report to us and a sweet picture of her and Tristan as well. THANK YOU GAIL!! Without further ado, below is Gail on her experience with our Irish Lucky Charm….

Northern Florida was very lucky recently to have a week-long visit by the talented, handsome and ever-so-charming Mr. Tristan MacManus of Dancing with the Stars. His dance card was full nearly every day, with long lists of happy local residents who had private lessons with him. As one lucky lady remarked about her private lesson in Panama City, it was the “Best 45 minutes ever!!!”

Following the crowded group lessons, fans lined up to have pictures taken and autographs signed by the dancing star, and young and old were turned on to the joys of dancing, some for the first time ever, by a master of dance who’s also quite a heart-throb on the smash hit tv series, a treat that might be expected in New York City or Los Angeles, but in the small resort cities of Northern Florida, it was a delightful treat indeed!

Despite the weather, the turnout was great, not only for private lessons but for group ones as well, in Panama City (Mon Tues Jan 14-15), Crestview (Wed Jan 16), and Pensacola (Thurs Fri Jan 17-18), where MacManus also hosted an “Open House” and treated a packed dancehall with a sexy exciting Rumba with a local female pro.

Not far away, in Gulf Shores, Alabama, MacManus will team up with Anna Trebunskaya, also of Dancing with the Stars fame, and two members of the tv-show “troupe”, Sasha Farber and Emma Slater, performing in the traveling Broadway-type dance show, “Ballroom with a Twist”, on Tuesday, January 22.

The studios’ Facebook sites are jam-packed with photographs of Mr. MacManus and his many lucky students, and the other talented professionals in the Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Panama City, Crestview, Pensacola, and Ft Walton Beach. And be sure to keep in touch with them, because this isn’t the first time the area has been so honored! Just last June, ballroom spectaculars were graced by Mr. MacManus, joined by quite a few others from the series: Tony Dovolani, Kym Johnson, Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy, Karina Smirnoff, and Peta Murgatroyd.

But don’t wait too long – these events fill up faster than you can say two-three-cha-cha-cha, which would sound a lot more charming if you had been there to hear the adorable Irish hottie Mr. MacManus calling out the beat to a roomful of budding ballroom aficionados. Read more..

DWTS Odds & Ends: Lacey Schwimmer, Tristan MacManus, Maks’ Birthday Bash, Anna Trebunskaya, Derek Hough

Happy TGIF Dancettes! There are some fun pics floating around out there of some our Dancing With The Stars pros and current fun projects!! Wanna See??

First up, check out this sweet picture of Lacey Schwimmer and Tristan MacManus. As you know from a previous report, the two are in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida currently teaching dance classes at the Fred Astaire Studios. Tristan was so polite as always as he even gave the photographer and big fan a kiss on the cheek before she left class. You can view more pics like this HERE and be sure to “like” Shannon Quinlan Photography at facebook and thank her for the great pics.

As you know, tonight is Maks Big Birthday Bash at Dance With Me Studio’s in New York City. Last night at twitter, Court noticed singer and TV Personality from RHONJ, @MelissaGorga, tweeting a picture of herself, 2 other girls …oops, make that three (Help? I’m not sure who they are?), Maks, and Tony. I think the pic below must have been for a preliminary event at Neiman Marcus because @YaninaEE at twitter also posted this picture with them giving Maks a birthday cake. If someone knows more, please let us know.

Speaking of Mak’s Birthday Bash, I hope Maks is ready for a good roasting tonight. Check out what Tony told Life & Style Magazine this week….

“We constantly get requests from people who want to meet us or watch us dance live,” Tony, who is co-hosting the event along with Maks’ brother Val, tells Life & Style. “So we decided to throw this bash honoring Maks’ birthday and also give fans a little taste of what we all experience on DWTS. It’s going to be very entertaining, with singers, dancing and a lot of fun.”

The highlight of the night, says Tony? A roast of the tempestuous birthday boy.

“All of us are actually going for it a little bit,” laughs Tony. “But Maks is a good sport when it comes to the roast — he may not show it then, but he could be a little upset later!”

I like that word “tempestuous”. It describes Maks well sometimes …uhhh, among other descriptions. Stay tuned. We hope to have more coverage on this event in the coming days.

Next up, we have our sweet, fiery, red headed Russian, Anna Trebunskaya! Currently, Anna is on tour with the “Forever Tango” cast until February. I thought this was a cool promo shot. For more pics, scheduling, and ticket information, be sure to visit Forever Tango. This would be one fun show to take in!!

Lastly, be sure to make your calendars. If you haven’t heard yet, Derek Hough will be helping to co-host “Live! With Kelly” again on February 6th. He will help to interview Debra Messing and Atticus Shaffer. No doubt some fun times are ahead for this show again with Derek’s involvement and he and Kelly work and play well together. Now if only we could get her to dance on Dancing With The Stars? 🙂

Pure DWTS Sponsors A Dancer

A month or so ago I was approached by a young dancer named Caroline who was looking for sponsorship in some upcoming competitions. I was familiar with her as a contributor to Pure Derek Hough; she had met both Derek Hough and Mark Ballas through her dance studio which is a Fred Astaire Studio owned and operated by Fabian Sanchez, a former professional on Dancing with the Stars.  As a result, she had a lot of great pictures of Derek that she contributed to the site, in addition to writing a blog about meeting the guys.  So, through Pure Derek Hough, Caroline and I got to be friends and I wanted to help her out, as much as I could.

As you might imagine, dance instruction and competition is often prohibitively expensive. As a result, many young people with talent don’t ever get a chance to develop and nuture that talent, let alone compete in ballroom competitions.  Instruction alone is more than a dollar per minute, in many cases.  At a local level, competition can be more than $45 per dance – if you advance, it can get up into the hundreds of dollars per competition. And you’ve seen the costuming!  As a result, John and I have come up with a plan – we’re going to continue sponsoring Caroline and we’re going to do it in conjunction with Pure DWTS.  One of the first things cut in any school or community are the arts – we think that is a huge shame and a great loss to the community and the people who live in it.

You will see a logo on the upper right hand side of the page that says “Pure DWTS Merchandise” or you can click over to our Pure DWTS Store.  At this store you can buy Pure DWTS related merchandise at surprisingly low prices. Here’s an example of one of the t-shirts:

We’re going to donate a percentage of proceeds from sales at the store, in addition to a certain amount of our personal income from the site as necessary, in order to sponsor Caroline – and possibly other young dancers, if the program is successful. Consider this a trial balloon to see if we can get a dancing sponsorship going here – we don’t have much money, but we want to help, so your participation will mean we can help more dancers.

The great news is that Caroline had some success recently in competition – she won the junior division of  Birmingham Ballroom Challenge held by Kasia Kozak and this past May she won the Magic City Invitational. I’ve included some pictures, with her permission, below:

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)
