Is there something wrong with being a Mom and doing Dancing With The Stars? I say NO”!! Apparently, there are some bullies out there who have given Ginger Zee a hard time about it. Snooki and others weigh in too. More below and at People.
“You have to ignore [the judgment], especially social media,” advises Selenis Leyvia, 43, who plays Gloria Mendoza on Orange Is the New Black and is mom to teenage daughter Alina. “Sometimes [people] can be so awful, and when they go out to get you and be mean, they go for it.”
Zee, who recently landed DWTS‘ first perfect score of the season, then reflects on how much differently she handles criticism now that she’s a mom as opposed to during her 15-year career.
“They could say whatever they wanted to me — call me ugly and stupid and I was like, ‘All right,’ ” she says. “But when you’re a mom, it’s like, ‘No, no, I’m really trying!’ ”
I must say, week 7 of Season 22 was exceptionally dull until about the halfway point of the night. Super dullsville until we got to (surprise, surprise) Wanya and Lindsay. Major props to Lindsay for bringing the whimsical style foxtrot to the show – I could totally see Derek choreographing that dance. I can’t give a bigger compliment. Was it perfectly executed? No – but I loved it more than one of the so-called perfect dances.
Which brings me to Val and Ginger. I LOVED that dance. I thought it was beautiful. Would I have given it a 30? Based on what I had seen up to that point on Monday night, no – probably a 28 or 29. When comparing it to Nyle, Wanya and Paige’s dances earlier in the season, it wasn’t even close to a 30. When stacked up side by side with Paige’s dance on the same night – not even close. Paige’s dance was jam packed with content, was extremely fast, harder, and better performed. Were both dances perfect? No. Paige had a couple sync issues while Ginger’s arms got thrown away more than once. I find it a disservice to both women to give those dances the same perfect score when Paige is dancing at a much higher level. Not only that, but (as has happened in the past to Val and Maks’ partners) she will now expect high scores for less than perfect dancing and will be upset if and when it doesn’t happen. She will be blindsided. And Val will not help her temper her expectations – we saw that with Maks many times. They buy into their own PR instead of attempting to be pragmatic or realistic. …Read more
Lots coming up today! For starters, below are some interviews from Extra after the Dancing With The Stars Monday night! Awwww, I’m going to miss Von & Witney and Kim & Sasha!! Keep scrolling down…
Amma Slater also wrote a review of the dances at Hollywood Life. She was sad about the eliminations like we were. I love what she said on Sasha. Be sure to read the link for more as she wouldn’t have given any 10’s. There’s a cute photo of her and Sasha too. She also talks on seeing Alek Skarlatos.
Sadly though, Kim & Sasha were eliminated along with Von & Witney in a double elimination. I’m so sad that their journey has come to an end but I can’t help but be proud. Kim will look back and reflect on her season with such fond memories. It might be hard to swallow now, eliminations are horrible no matter what. I know she has made a life long friend in Sasha. And even if she tried, she wouldn’t be able to escape his daily texts! He’s quite persistent. I’m very proud of them both for their incredible season. As for Sash in particular, watching him as a pro this season was incredible. It meant so much to him. He truly deserves to be there based on his skill alone but then he has something else too. He’s a cheeky charmer who has a unique fun personality. He completely dotes on his partners and gives them the earth. It’s so refreshing to see this funny banter shine through. Sometimes you don’t get to see the soft, caring side to Sasha between the jokes, pranks and selfie faces (which he’s notorious for!!). However this season I think the people at home got to see more of him. The support he’s received has truly overwhelmed him. So thank you for that. Sash, I’m so proud of you.
Lastly, don’t miss reading Sharna’s new blog at Extra. She writes on her wardrobe malfunction. She also says Antonio is more driven than ever.
Antonio has a new focus and drive in this competition. He has fully switched gears and is ready to give this absolutely everything he’s got. He is willing to fly wherever he needs to go to ensure he can have practice with his quarterback, and trying to make it to rehearsals. Antonio Brown wants this. I have to say even though I think we should’ve had nines last night, the fact that we still have not had our perfect score is really driving him.
For anyone that knows Antonio Brown’s story, he was a sixth round pick in the NFL. He got looked over five times before that. He is someone that does smile in the face of adversity and that does drive from the bottom to dominate his competition. I feel that can directly correlate back to his experience on the show. For the first five weeks, no one was really too sure about his abilities and his drive. But now in Week 6 and 7, he has shown his improvement and how ready he is to take it to the end.
Speaking of Antonio, 247 Sports reports he went straight to training after Monday night.
Make no mistake, football is still Antonio Brown’s top priority.
On Monday, just hours after appearing on “Dancing with the Stars” in Los Angeles, Brown was at the Steelers’ practice facility in Pittsburgh, as the team begins Phase Two of it’s offseason workout plan.
While he hasn’t spent much time at the Steelers’ practice facility this offseason, Brown hasn’t spent any time away from his training. He’s constantly posting Snapchat videos of his workouts, and recently, it was revealed that he is working out at Nabie “The Speed Doctor” Fofanah’s training facility in California in between training and filming for DWTS.
WTAE also talked with Antonio at this link. They ask him about the differences between doing DWTS and football and lots more. They also talked with a few of the couples here. This link has a really fun gallery too of the cast getting ready for the show backstage. You can see the designers talking about how they put the costumes together at Variety too.
For those interested, you can listen to Afterbuzz TV review Dancing With The Stars Week 7 in the stream below. Note that this week’s guest is Shirley Ballas. The show starts around 8:05pm ET. The video below will also work after the show in case you missed it. Be sure to let us know what you think in comments.
Well, Week 8 and more weirdness to take us into the semi-finals. So, the couples are split into teams of two and each team gets a judge. :::sigh::: Judges choose the dance and the song. One would think they would pick appropriately, but I’m not going to hold my breath. I believe that’s all we know right now…except for the pairs at the bottom of the page. These came from a variety of interviews and other sources.
ETA: Vogue here. Today on Kelly & Michael, Carrie Ann said she has Antonio/Sharna and Paige/Mark for her team. She is creating something “athletic” for them. More in this post.
ETA2: Thanks to Kennedy for the heads up to look at the DancingABC Instagram. If it’s not Panic at the Disco, then that account is trolling. 🙂
ETA3: The DWTS instagram strikes again. Any guess on what dance style Jodie will be doing to that song?
ETA4: All the songs and dances thanks to the ABC press release (via DWTSGossip).
ETA5: Song and Dance up date for Carrie Ann’s Team below via her instagram. And I sure hope they aren’t copying Derek Hough’s new dance art project with this. ~Vogue

Allison Holker is a full time Mother currently, but, that didn’t stop her from reviewing Dancing With The Stars Week 7. She chose Peta and Nyle’s dance for “highlight of the night”. She thought the “best dance of the night” went to Val and Ginger. You can read her full blog at Yahoo.
We are midway through the Dancing With the Stars season and tensions are high, competition is tough, and the true finalist are starting to reveal themselves. Up until now every couple has had their own highs and lows or great stories to tell, but now each week we are looking for more. We expect the celebrities to grow in the syllabus of dance. We are looking for details in style and technique in each dance, and of course high-class performances. It’s in this week we as an audience decide who we hope to see stay until the end.
The celebrities are under a lot of pressure this week. They have to learn two dances, one dance with their pro and one team dance — in this case, it’s guys vs. the girls. Not only that, but two couples had to leave the competition. Everyone is exhausted, competitive, and starting to realize how much they really want to win that mirrorball trophy. It happens every year — each competitor is having fun learning something new, but now the stakes are high and they want to win. But who has what it takes? Let’s discuss.
VOOOOONNNNNNNN! Not my human redwood/teddy bear/chicken man! 🙁 I think Von was the first elim this season that really stung for me – while I liked Doug & Marla, I recognized that they had probably peaked already and weren’t going to improve much; Von, on the other hand, I thought was just starting to realize his potential. I don’t think a lot of folks realized just how hard he was working – or how much fun he was having. Did I see him as finale material? Nah, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing him at least entertain us till week 9. Oh well – guess TPTB determined that there was more money to be had in backing Antonio than Von, and engineered ways to make the former look better while just kinda letting the latter do whatever on his own. If I had it my way – it would have been Antonio sent packing instead of Von. At least Von was actually trying, and came across as a down-to-earth human being, rather than a narcissistic robot.
As for Kim – can’t say I was terribly surprised or disappointed, as I had been saying for weeks that she had been playing it a bit too safe this season. Kim’s dances were never bad – she was always on time, and seemed to be having a lot of fun; but they were never really particularly memorable, either – and with a season like this, where you’ve got so many powerhouses, you’ve really gotta pack a punch. I find it interesting that Kim seemed so blindsided by her elim – I had heard from a source that they overheard Kim say a few weeks back that she was “fairly sure” she was going to make the finals. Not sure if Sasha is just THAT positive a teacher that he convinced her of this, or Kim just didn’t quite see the writing on the wall, but denial is not just a river in Egypt, Kim…he’s also Peta’s partner, and the guy that’s probably going to win this season 🙂
Which brings me to my next point: what does it mean that we’ve now seen Jodie, Paige, & Wanya in jeopardy, while Nyle, Antonio, & Ginger have yet to land there? I saw a lot of folks asking me to make sense of this on Twitter, and while I myself am not by any means sure of what to make of it, my best theory is this: they’re using jeopardy as a warning for some, but just as a way to boost votes for others. At this point, I still think this season is Nyle’s to lose; however, I don’t think TPTB want it to appear obvious that Nyle is running away with the trophy already. They gotta make it a horse race, so it benefits them to give a bit of a boost to the couples that stand the best chance of giving Nyle a run for his money in the finale (Wanya & Paige). Paige lands in jeopardy last week; Wanya this week. I don’t by any means think that either is a low vote-getter, but I do think TPTB may be rallying the troops to ensure those two land in the finale with Nyle. As for Jodie – I think her being in jeopardy two weeks in a row was an effort to keep a better dancer around over a less-skilled one (part of me thinks that Doug may have actually been beating Jodie in votes during those first few rough weeks she had), and now that she’s one of the weaker dancers left – there’s no need to protect her anymore. Somebody’s gotta go home, and I don’t see them keeping Jodie over Paige or Ginger. I don’t think Kim just suddenly fell into the bottom 2 in the past week – she’s probably been there before, and perhaps TPTB just didn’t see fit to try and save her. As for Ginger & Antonio? TPTB may be starting to see the writing on the wall there – Ginger is not nearly the dancer that Paige is, and Antonio has been a colossal disappointment. They probably owe it to the ABC fam to at least make sure Ginger makes it to week 9, and with 2 of the 3 NFL’ers already gone, I guess they maybe want to enjoy Antonio as long as they can…but I think it will be a complete joke if the latter in particular makes the finale over Wanya or Paige. Big credibility killer there. I think it’s getting to the point that it may be painfully obvious to just about everyone that a Nyle, Wanya, & Paige finale is the most logical scenario…so I don’t know that it really behooves TPTB to try and shake that up too much. But hey, what do I know…I’m just a lowly blogger 😛 …Read more
As you know from last night’s show, ABC launched a new Virtual experience to Dancing With The Stars. Below is more from Broadway World. Read below and then take our new Poll. Be sure to let us know what you think in comments. The virtual experience is cool, but, I’d rather have LONGER and MORE PRO DANCES with well thought out choreography more than ANYTHING.
“We are incredibly excited to bring this brand-new experience to the fans of ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Fans at home will literally feel as though they are right in the middle of the ballroom floor. And it is definitely worth watching multiple times in order to take in all the brilliant choreography Mandy Moore has put together,” shared Dan Martin, co executive producer, “Dancing with the Stars.”
“We have been building an in-house expertise in this area and wanted our first project to be a visual feast, which it is. It truly captures all the excitement, glamour and talent that is “Dancing with the Stars,” added Robert Schefferine, VP of production, ABC Entertainment Marketing.
Good Morning America had a fun recap and interviewed the eliminated couples (with an exception to Von Miller) this morning (Aww, they are making me cry again). Also, below are the bumpers from last night. Thanks to @Idolxfactor1 for his hard work and fast recordings this week.
Below are some beautiful photos of the cast last night from Dancing With The Stars courtesy of Getty. Who had your favorite costumes? That would Sharna and Antonio for me! Antonio’s suit made me think of Prince (*sigh 🙁 ) and I loved Sharna’s dress and long red hair. I loved Mark and Paige’s fire red costumes too. Nyle and Peta made me think of Angels. Huge kudos to the make-up, hair, and costume departments again! Click on any of the photos to see more.
