DWTS Gleb Savchenko And Wife Elena Samodanova Attend “On The Go Beauty” Event in Beverly Hills

Awww, it’s so good to see pro dancers Gleb Savchenko and his wife Elena Samodanova again, isn’t it? Such a beautiful couple that I’d love to see dance together on Dancing With The Stars. Yesterday, it looked as if they had some fun in the sun as they attended the 5th Annual “On The Go Beauty” Event in Beverly Hills, California. Sean Lowe was also in attendance. To view some fun takes of them all, see Getty Images.

DWTS 16, Week 8 – Power Rankings

Well, this is probably going to be a pretty short ranking, because besides nursing a killer migraine…tonight just kind of sucked.

Ballroom round? Too short, and pretty ho-hum.  Trio round? Only one real standout, a couple that were so-so, and the rest were fails.  And of course, Len continues to be a horrible human being.  I miss Andy more than I thought :-( Let’s get this over with…

1.) Zendaya & Val – First off, I probably would have picked a different song for their foxtrot – the fact that it’s a capella made it feel a bit thin & boring.  On top of that, it seemed like it took a little too long to get into the dance, and what I saw, while pleasant to watch, didn’t really excite me.  As for their salsa trio – where was the salsa? I saw a lot of vaguely hip-hoppy stuff and a lot of side-by-side actions, but very little interaction between Zendaya herself and the two guys she was supposed to be dancing with.  And I generally just found some of the choreography to be a bit odd – once again, rather stop-and-go.  It wasn’t a bad dance, per se, but I would dispute the fact that it was a salsa and call attention to the fact that the bulk of it was done individually, as opposed to in couples.  Hell, salsa’s even one of the easier dances to do with 3 people…would it really have been that hard to do a bit more work in-hold? Oh well…they’ve got a 58, so they don’t even have to worry about it…

2.) Kellie & Derek – I feel like they were the only couple tonight that really put a ton of thought into both of their performances, and even figured out a clever way to link the two together.  The Viennese waltz was very pretty, though I would have liked a little bit more of it to be in-hold, because Kellie can handle it; the paso trio was the only dance that really stuck out in my mind tonight, because it was so exciting to watch and it was the only one that actually seemed to work WITH the props they chose, as opposed to just having them there (like several other couples).  Len’s score AND his comment to Bruno about having “something up his ass”? Uncalled for, inappropriate, and I’m just done with that SOB.  If Fox can issue an apology for Steve Tyler’s behavior on Idol, then they can certainly issue one for Len’s behavior on DWTS.  Dude is seriously crossing the line.

3.) Aly & Mark – Man, they’re REALLY trying to make Aly “happen”, aren’t they? Yes, she has grown – somewhat – in her time on DWTS, but I still find her a bit underwhelming to watch.  I actually agreed with (ack) Carrie Ann about her Argentine tango – for as acrobatic & flexible as Aly is, her leg lines seemed a little…weak.  I don’t think it was 29-worthy – maybe 27-worthy.  As for the jive trio – it wasn’t bad, but it was just so BLAND.  Part of it was Aly, but I really just found the choreography to be a bit blah as well – Mark seemed to be erring on the side of safe again.  I have to wonder if she’s not getting the votes – because they seem to be scoring her awfully kindly these days.

4.) Jacoby & Karina – The Viennese waltz was better than I expected, though not his best dance.  Liked the drama of it, but I thought it could be a bit neater.  Actually enjoyed their paso trio with Cheryl, but I feel like the only real problem seemed to be that there was just so much choreography jam-packed into that routine that Jacoby got a little distracted…which could explain why he just kind of flung Cheryl off to the side.  I think they just got so caught up trying to show everything that Jacoby was capable of doing that they may have overwhelmed him.  But overall, I thought he did pretty well with both of his dances tonight…let’s hope that translates into safety.  Not sure what to think after he ended up in jeopardy last week…

5.) Ingo & Kym – Eee gad…this partnership really kind of imploded this week, didn’t it? Kym seems like she’s at her wits end, and Ingo got really, really whiny this time around – that package did not do them any favors.  For all the fussing that they were doing, I think their foxtrot turned out halfway-ok…it was definitely better than Sean’s tango, despite a few little stutters.  The jive trio was basically a dud – you could tell the ladies did everything they could to ensure that Ingo was moving as minimally as possible during that dance, as they did most of the heavy-duty dancing; there was also a rather prolonged entry & exit, perhaps to cut back on the time that Ingo was actually dancing.  I think they’re definitely bottom 2 fodder tomorrow night, and might even end up going home.  They’re just getting hard to watch…

6.) Sean & Peta – Well, I think Sean is probably the weakest dancer left, and I think the judges made clear that it’s Sean they want gone tomorrow night.  The tango felt stompy & awkward, and I could tell that Peta was doing a good deal of backleading in that one.  Jazz trio? Despite having Sharna there to at least offer up some good advice, I think Sean’s trio was probably the biggest fail of the evening.  Like Ingo’s trio, it seemed like they tried to put the ladies front & center whenever they could, and had them doing most of the real moving…although I feel like there was even less actual dancing in this dance than Ingo’s, and Sean was even more awkward attempting some of the jazz steps than Ingo was with the jive steps.  I was pretty much done with Shawn a few weeks ago, and I’m definitely ready to see him go now…the question is: will it be him, or Ingo?

So was anyone else let down by this week’s dances? Go ahead and sound off, I need to lie down…

DWTS Season 16, Weeks 4 and 5 – The Cheesecake Awards, SUPERSIZED!!

Well, it case you hadn’t figured it out, Courtney and I got overwhelmed last week and didn’t get the cheesecake baked before the next performance show. So this week you get a supersized version – twice as b#@chy and twice as long. ;-)  Well, maybe not twice as long…there aren’t that many things funny about this show any more. :-)

Week 4

The “YO! I said Shut UP!” Award: Carrie Ann Inaba whose mic wasn’t working when she was trying to critique Sean’s dancing

Heidi: I think someone’s trying to tell her something. Either Sean has magic powers or it’s not nice to diss the “family”. Or the production muppets fail again. Take your pick.

Courtney: I think they should dream up some sort of communication obstacle for her each week, just so we don’t have to listen to her self-righteous blathering.  Maybe one week, she’ll have to phrase all of her critiques in pig Latin; the next week, tell her she can’t use any verbs; the following week, she will only be allowed to use hand gestures.  Then I’d actually look forward to her critiques – for the pure comedy they would bring :-P

Heidi: “You ucksay and I inkthay I awsay a iftlay!”

The “You don’t look like a screamer” Award: Lindsay, for screaming her way through the Paso Doble with Victor

Heidi: Hey! That’s totally not what I meant! You people with dirty minds. :-) Anyway, I’m not so sure the “I’m a maniac” method works, particularly on guys like Victor. :-) Really, screaming at the top of your lungs?? You can see her yelling through out the entire dance!

Courtney: Poor Lindsay – she’s just terribly, terribly green when it comes to being a pro.  I highly doubt that if your celeb is messing up, yelling at him at progressively louder volumes is going to help.  And really, if he’s screwing up that bad in the first place – you probably haven’t done your job as a pro and gotten him rehearsed enough.  It’s times like these where I think to myself, “Would it have KILLED you guys to just put her in the troupe for a season or two?” 8-O Read more..

So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS2013 Gleb Savchenko, Maks Chmerkovskiy, Tony Dovolani Get Ready To Dance, 10 Facts On Gleb

GlebTonyMaks

Isn’t this a great photo of Gleb Savchenko, Maks Chmerkovskiy, and Tony Dovolani? Gleb posted this picture at facebook and twitter of him in rehearsals for a new dance number on Dancing With The Stars next week. This is going to be fun, isn’t it?!!

Also, and speaking of Gleb, you can read a fun interview with him at Heavy.com for some fun facts you may not know. Below are two which I found interesting, but please, let’s hope he decides to take up a permanent residence in the United States too and the producers will still want him to come back next season?!!

1. The Guy Knows Everybody.
Gleb may be the newbie this season, but he’s pretty much known the rest of the dancers on the show for years. So, coming into the DWTS family in its 16th season wasn’t as intimidating as one would think. So how did Gleb know everyone already?

Gleb explains, “Half of the people who are on the show like Karina, Val, Maks, Tony, Cheryl… I knew all of them before the show. I used to live in New York in 2004 and I used to teach in North Carolina with Karina. Every weekend we used to fly there and teach dancing to competitive couples. I use to teach in the same studio as Cheryl in Times Square, so I would see her like every single day. I knew Val for a very long time. We used to have the same teachers and Maks would come. I used to do a show with Tony in Vegas, so we all know each other.”

2. Gleb is Homeless.
For the show, Gleb is living in Los Angeles, which he loves. However, he also lives in Hong Kong and Sydney from time to time. Once Dancing With The Stars wraps this season, he has to sit down and decide if he wants to take a serious step and move to LA or if he wants to try to settle in one of the other two places. I can hear the hearts out there breaking just at the thought of him leaving the U.S. Maybe he’ll factor that in to his decision-making.

DWTS16 Week 5: Dance Details Revealed, Celebs Have Two Dances To Learn, Past Pros Returning

So, let’s go straight to George Pennacchio from On The Red Carpet. He talked with 6 of the remaining couples after the show last night. Note that they have TWO dances next week….one where they have two pros join them for their individual dance and a Group Number to dance in as well.

First up, Zendaya and Val! These two have the Argentine Tango next week. Maks and Anna will be dancing with them at the beginning of their dance. Zendaya is looking forward to the challenge and dancing with Maks (more on this at the end of this post too with an article from E News!).

Andy and Sharna were scared last night. They are so relieved to be coming back. Sharna then explains their new dance and how two pros will join them in the beginning. They have to do synchronized dancing with them and then they do their solo dance. It will be ‘frightening and exciting at the same time’. They have a Paso Doble which will have fire, power, and intensity and a little bit of “Andy Dick” flavoring with a character and a story. Sharna also explains the Group dance that they will be a part of. Sharna also mentions how she’s dancing in a dance number that Derek and Mark are choreographing. (they have me so excited again. I can’t wait!)

Kym and Ingo have a Cha Cha next week!!! Ingo’s back hurts and Kym tells him he has to move his hips. They will be dancing with Tony Dovolani and Emma Slater. Kym reassures Ingo that he will be ok and they will help him look good and not the worst.

Sean plans to work harder this week. He feels he disappointed Peta and wants to do better and blow everyone away. Peta explains their two new dances and how they will have to practice 10 extra hours this week for the Group dance. For their individual dance, they have the Quickstep. Read more..
