Keeping An Eye On: Celebs Who Were Rumored To Dance On DWTS

Just some brief mentions on some celebrities we’ve been keeping an eye on that were rumored to dance in some previous seasons of Dancing With The Stars. First of all, let’s not forget about “Deadliest Catch” star Sig Hanson. This past June, he was reported as saying he will participate on Dancing With The Stars in the Spring. Here is more from Reality Blurred at the time…

Deadliest Catch star and Northwestern captain Sig Hansen said he’ll participate in Dancing with the Stars next spring.

The St. Pete Times’ Eric Deggans reports that “the possibility Hansen might fulfill his longtime dream of competing on Dancing With the Stars in March 2012” is “the kind of success they could scarcely have predicted when [executive producer Thom] Beers first suggested putting a film crew on their boats for the first time.”

Specifically, Sig said, “So they’re looking at it for next March and I’ll do it. I think it’d be good for the brand, once-in-a-lifetime thing, and it’s fuckin’ cool, you know? Why not, you know? … I think it’d be fun. It’s just, you know, why not? I’m living life. It’s been fun and as long as it doesn’t hurt my relationship with my wife, I’m good with it.” (That quotation didn’t make the story but Deggans provided it to me from the transcript of his interview.)

Also, did you note how Lee Meriwether was in the audience watching the show one night this past season?? She tweeted about it and was an avid supporter to J.R. through out the season. As you might know if you are a follower to this site, Lee has been very interested in dancing on the show for the past two seasons. Let’s not forget she’s made it a point to ‘follow’ a lot of Dancing With The Stars fans at twitter. Will Dancing With The Stars Season 14 finally be her time to dance? As you can see from her twitter account, she’s nutty about Tom Bergeron too as many of us are. 🙂

Then there is pro woman wrestler Velvet Sky. She and her fans have been campaigning hard for her through out the Summer and Fall! I thought this recent tweet made by her on Oct. 1st was especially interesting….

Let’s get Heidi’s thoughts:

Heidi:  Velvet was never a rumor, she was a campaigner who made it sound like she was in the running.  Big difference…and I kinda doubt she will be successful.  But, you never know.  🙂

Speaking of campaigns versus actual rumors – Lorenzo Lamas was claiming not too long ago that he was on the “short list” to do the show…yet he (and Donna D’Errico) urged all his fans to vote for him at abc.com.  So, is this a rumor, wishful thinking on his part, or a savvy (kinda) campaign??  Who can tell – it’s Hollywood!! Clearly some are not above stretching the truth and there is no way of telling when someone is. 🙂

What about rumors that seemed pretty solid??  Celebuzz said that Kim Richards was all signed up to do the show – wrong.  So, was she signed and got bumped??  Or did she tell Celebuzz what she was hoping for??  Either way, maybe she’ll show up on this coming season of the show. 🙂

Then there are those tweeting a list of people who are “going to participate” and they actually get half of them right.  Well, what do you do with the other half of their lists?? Were those people in contention and got bumped or decided not to do it?? Or were they culling rumors like we do and just managed to get half right??  The Henry Winkler and Tiffany Thiessen rumors seem to fall into this category.  Don’t know what to make of it, actually.

Christina Milian is a rumor that I could get behind…if she was dancing with Derek. 🙂  So much pretty on the dance floor. :::sigh:::  🙂  She seemed kinda solid for last season, but we know how that turned out…but never say never. Shawn Marion actually said he was offered, but didn’t want to take a chance with the lockout – as we know, Ron Artest didn’t mind taking the chance. This makes me think that we won’t see Marion any time soon – current basketball players two seasons in a row? Probably not.

Who else seemed like a possibility recently?? Well, Davy Jones, Evelyn Lozado, Matthew Finley….well, the list is too long, really.

Of course, this is where the internet noise machine becomes a problem – one person mentions a name as a “wish” then someone sees it and thinks it’s rumored….and before you know it it’s all over the freakin’ internet as a “fact”.  Let me tell you, sorting through all that crap to find the real deal is nearly impossible.  But at least we’ll tell you when we’re not sure. 🙂  Which is MOST of the time.  And this is the time that I chuckle as I remember all the Hope Solo fans who told us, categorically, that Hope was NOT doing the show after we reported she was.  So, all the talk is hard to decipher.

There are probably several hundred other people who were rumored in the past who we should be keeping an eye on – but this is a start for now.  🙂

DWTS13 Casting Rumors – The Typecasting of Season 13, Part II

So with each hour closer to the cast announcement that we get, we seem to be getting more and more leaks of who’s in – the next 24 hours will definitely be the time to stay tuned to PureDWTS, as we’ll be posting any potential last minute leaks as soon as we hear them! I dunno about you guys, but I’m getting excited…so let’s take a look at who else we might expect to see, based on casting patterns 😉

The Teen Idol

Previous examples: Joey McIntyre, Aaron Carter, Donny Osmond, Lance Bass, Mel B., Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Joey Lawrence, Ian Ziering, Cody Linley, Sabrina Bryan, Mario Lopez, Kyle Massey, Chelsea Kane, Romeo

Advantages: If sales of Tiger Beat are any indicator, the teenyboppers will come out in full force to support their favorite heartthrobs/idols.  Being young & good-lookin’ sure doesn’t hurt! Many also have the added advantage of having a decent dance background, especially if they were part of a musical act.

Disadvantages: Youth can also have its disadvantages – as in immaturity.  What some might call “youthful exuberance”, others might call “immaturity” or “attention deficit disorder” – poor Cody Linley had a hard time sitting still! Emotional immaturity (a la Aaron Carter’s post-rumba meltdown in the confessional) can be especially off-putting. They’ve also got to contend with the large middle-aged female contingent of viewers/voters – they far outnumber the young viewers likely to vote for them.

Possible candidates this season: Now that the Candace Cameron-Bure rumor seems to have died down, it looks like we’re going to be seeing former child starKim Richards, also of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame…maybe she’s doing double-duty as the reality star this season, too!

The Host

Previous examples: Jerry Springer, Brooke Burke, Leeza Gibbons, Mario Lopez, Kenny Mayne, Lisa Rinna, Tucker Carlson, Mark Dacascos, Rocco DiSpirito, Erin Andrews, Wendy Williams, Mike Catherwood

Advantages: Being that they’ve been at the helm of their own shows, these guys usually have the media savvy & charisma to appeal to the masses, as well as the previous exposure & recognizability.  Most (not all!) are also decently attractive, which never seems to hurt (unless, of course, you’re a model – see previous post for explanation).

Disadvantages: Many hosts are only used to hosting – as in just sitting down & talking (or dodging the occasional punch, if you’re Springer), so the lack of movement experience problem seems to come into play.

Possible candidates this season: I’ve started preparing myself to watch Nancy Grace try to hoof it this season, though I can’t say I’m even the tiniest bit excited about it.  Someone hosts I’d rather see? Craig Ferguson or Ricki Lake – the former is just hilarious, and the latter might actually be pretty good due to her Broadway background.

The Actor

Previous examples: John O’Hurley, Melissa Joan Hart, Steve Guttenburg, John Ratzenberger, Debi Mazar, Denise Richards, Ted McGinley, Shannon Elizabeth, Jennie Garth, Vivica Fox, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Shannen Doherty, Jennifer Grey, David Hasselhoff, Ralph Macchio, Kirstie Alley

Advantages: Being that their bread & butter is acting, most can usually nail the emotions of the dances. Bonus points if they’ve done any Broadway (like Winokur) because they have likely had dance experience.

Disadvantages: For lack of a better term, many of them seem to be “has-beens” – actors that haven’t been particularly active in the mainstream in the past several years – or were never that big to begin with (can anyone else think of anything John O’Hurley has been in BESIDES Seinfeld?), making it harder for them to garner votes from a public who may not remember them.

Possible candidates this season: I think it’s safe to say David Arquette is a lock.  There’s been a couple of murmurs about Henry Winkler as well, and I’m still wondering if Lorenzo Lamas is gonna crop up, after all the talking he did last season.

The Reality Star

Previous examples: Kim Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne, Melissa Rycroft, Steve-O, Holly Madison, Trista Sutter, Shanna Moakler, Kate Gosselin, Jake Pavelka, Audrina Patridge, The Situation

Advantages: Many have achieved pop culture icon status on their respective reality outlets, making them fairly recognizable.

Disadvantages: They may be memorable for the wrong reasons – people tended to remember things like Kim Kardashian’s sex tape more than her reality show when she was on DWTS, and people seemed more focused on Holly Madison’s split from Hef than her antics on The Girls Next Door.  Many can also come across as attention-hungry & talentless(*cough*JakePavelka*cough*) – reality TV is often looked down upon as a way to get famous without having any talent whatsoever.

Possible candidates this season: We had the great Snooki scare of 2011 (which I doubt is going to amount to anything), but Rob Kardashian & Kristen Cavallari’s names are still being tossed around.

The Singer:

Previous examples: Mya, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario, Belinda Carlisle, Master P, Chuck Wicks, Sara Evans, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, Toni Braxton, Macy Gray, Nicole Scherzinger

Advantages: As with the teen idols, many have had dance experience concurrent with their music careers.

Disadvantages: Most seem to be committed solely to one genre of music (often R&B or country), making it hard to appeal to a wide fanbase.

Possible candidates this season: Christina Milian’s name has been said quite a bit, but we haven’t had any confirmation. But rumor has it Chynna Philips is definitely in.

The Wild Card

Previous examples: Heather Mills, Tom DeLay, Mark Cuban, Steve Wozniak, Priscilla Presley, Buzz Aldrin, Bristol Palin

Advantages: The sheer novelty of having someone with such an off-the-beaten-path claim to fame (famous divorcee/widow, entrepreneur, disgraced politician, etc.) may be enough to have the public voting them – just to see what happens.  Being the “underdog” is a powerful thing…as we saw with Bristol last season!

Disadvantages: Due to their often dubious fame, people just may not have any clue who they are – I personally had to Google Mark Cuban’s name. There’s also the risk of backlash from some viewers who don’t think they’re “stars” per se, and shouldn’t even be on the show in the first place.

Possible candidates this season: I’d say our best bet is Chaz Bono

So we’re mere hours away from the official announcement, gang – who do you think is in and who do you think is just wishful thinking? Be sure to check back here for Heidi’s Casting Announcement Live Blog starting at 8 PM EST tomorrow night …she (and the rest of us) suffer through Bachelor Pad so you don’t have to! Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS Season 13 – Rumor Round Up, Part II

Okay, it’s about that time again! Funny, I was thinking there hadn’t been enough new rumors to cover since I did Part I – and realized that I have a poor sense of what happened when. 🙂 There have been quite a few!!

Remember in that first post when I said how fun this was and it’s my favorite part of the season of blogging??  Well, that’s still true, and I enjoy my what seems like daily DM sessions with Vogue as we try to figure out what to post and what to ignore…but I’m ready for Monday now. 🙂 I’m tired of reading parts of Twitter that I normally would avoid like the plague and I’m ready to start writing fresh Cheese. 🙂  Only a few more days till the announcement!! Yay.  NOTE: Don’t forget that I’m live blogging the announcement right here at PureDWTS.  Once the announcement is made, I’m going to guess who got who (well, some of those are out in the open already 🙂 ) in a post that will likely be early Tuesday morning – get your guesses ready so you can add them in the comments.  Wednesday morning we will post the official pairings and let the screams of “ringer” and whining and hand wringing begin!! 🙂 I’ll go first…This is Maks’ FOURTH either high profile or talented partner in a row!!!  Heh. Just thought I would put that out there before people start bitching about Derek. 😀

On with the show…First up, those “rumors” that are pretty darn non-rumorish at this point:

Hope Solo – first it was a hint, then a tweet that sort of implied that she wasn’t, then it was a tease, and then she kinda outed herself on twitter.
David Arquette – seen at dance studio with Kym Johnson.

For New Rumors that Seem Solid:

Ryan O’Neal – this one comes from ET, which makes it somewhat credible.
Kim Richards – I only believe this one because it just came out yesterday and it sounds like Celebuzz spotted her at a dance studio. We’ll see. 🙂

Those Rumors that I Just Don’t Believe, for a Variety of Reasons:

Jenna Jameson – she’s a former porn star!!  But she was following some pros
Elisabetta Canalis – this came from E! News, who claim “many sources” are telling them Elizabetta is signing on. But this would be a new level of “WHO?” for most people, I think.

In the category of “Do DJs in Small Markets have any cred??”:

Erica Durance – think this one might be serious wishful thinking. It came from a comment on a USA Today article referencing what he heard a DJ say. Convoluted enough for ya?? 🙂 Her people have since said it’s false.
Henry Winklertwo different DJs tweeted about this one today and I don’t know what to make of it. Hmmm…

Which rumors do I think might be true?? Well, besides Hope and David, I think the following are pretty solid:

Chynna Phyllips
Kristin Cavallari
Chaz Bono (TMZ just claimed he’s in for sure. We said this days ago, hello?)
Kim Richards
Rob Kardashian

I have other thoughts, but these are all I’m willing to share right now. 🙂

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Henry Winkler To Dance On Dancing With The Stars 13? (Rumor)

Well, not sure what to make of these two tweets for now, but, two radio DJs are reporting Henry Winkler as a possible contender to dance on Dancing With The Stars. We mentioned Henry Winkler in July as possibly dancing. But, in a recent Hollywood Reporter article at the time, he said he’d never do the show and “not with someone else’s legs.” He said he might do it though if Ron Howard was his partner. LOL!! So, has Henry possibly changed his mind? Note however that Radio DJs aren’t exactly in a big LA market, but, this is so random that we felt like we had to mention it. Note too that the DJ from the second tweet works for a station that recently interviewed Mark Ballas.

I really hope Henry does the show…if not now, someday? He’d be a gas!!!

Edit to add one more DJ who mentions Henry Winkler. This is the same DJ who mentioned Chaz Bono dancing as well;

More Dancing With The Stars 13 Wannabes, Campaigning, and Possible Contenders In The Making

Well coolest Dancettes, as we enter July, the rumors for new cast contenders for Dancing With The Stars continue to surface. I’ve been running into a few wannabes and people campaigning again. First up, how about Randy Jones? Does that name sound familiar from the 70’s? Randy was most known as the original cowboy of the legendary disco group, THE VILLAGE PEOPLE!! Here he was “then” performing YMCA with his buddies (watching this takes me back. What a scream! 😀 ) in case you need a reminder!! And here he is “now”;

Ok, so on second thought? 😯 But, if you’d like to add your support for Randy, be sure to “add” this facebook page to your favorites as a fun campaign has started. Seriously, I got the giggles so bad seeing this for the first time last night. I think Randy would be a hoot if he was picked to do the show, do you?

Thanks to Courtney for this next possible contender in the making! How about soap star MICHAEL E. KNIGHT?? As many of you might know, Michael is best known for playing Tad Martin on the soap opera “All My Children”. This guy very much wants to dance. Campaigning for him has began at twitter and facebook.

He’s cute! I say bring him on! 🙂

Hey, and let’s not forget Colleen Zenk fans are still campaigning for her to dance. Check out this fun promo they did for her recently;

Colleen Zenk – Dancing with the Stars – Season 13 Promo from Team Colleen on Vimeo.

Come on, bring on BARBARA!!! We’ll never hear the end of the campaigning for her until you do. lol

How about Jason Alexander?

Jason, “forever known as George Costanza on Seinfeld”, said he’s been asked to do the show on several occasions. Below is more from AJC.

How about “Dancing With the Stars’? He said he’s turned them down on several occasions. “I have a pretty private life,” he said. “When you do any reality show, it becomes more invasive than I’m willing to go. I have a cousin who was on ‘Survivor’ twice, Jonathan Penner. It was very clear reality TV creates stories and characters the way they want. I have too delicate an ego for that.”

Alexander admits he wouldn’t be bad on the show. “I was a song-and-dance man,” he said. “That part is wonderful. It’s the rest of the stuff surrounding it that I’m not really terribly interested in.”

He’d be fun. I wish they’d get him!!

And for those not patiently waiting (like myself 😯 ) for Henry Winkler to dance on Dancing With The Stars, he’s recently said unless his buddy Ron Howard was his partner, he doesn’t plan to do the show …not even with someone elses legs. lol Below is more from the Hollywood Reporter.

THR: Do you think at point you’ll be ready to do Dancing with the Stars?

Winkler: Never. Not with someone else’s legs. I watch it. I enjoy it.

THR: You could get Ron Howard to do it with you — a mini Happy Days reunion.

Winkler: I would do it if Ron was my partner. He’s like my younger brother. Listen, I had no idea I would ever put on the leather jacket again until he called me about Obama.

What’s with all of these guys wanting to dance with each other? Ok, I can dig it.

We look forward to your thoughts as always. 😉
