Louis Van Amstel And Anna Trebunskaya Weigh In On Dancing With The Stars Week 8

Louis Van Amstel and Anna Trebunskaya weighed in on each of the Dancing With The Stars Week 8 performances at Good Morning America. Anna wrote this of Derek and Kellie’s Paso Doble….

Anna: That was very clever to tie the two dances together, an Angelic waltz and a Demonic Paso! The judges had a love fest but then Len spoils the party. The performance was amazing! Classical Paso- not so much… But who cares? With entertainment like that, we’ll buy it.

It was indeed amazing and the ‘dance of the night’ in my opinion. Would you all agree??

And here is Louis with the bottom line….

The Bottom Line

Louis: Great night. I must say though the judges have been quite off, in my opinion. I do have to say that’s my opinion and that doesn’t mean you have to agree. Both Ingo and Sean are in trouble. If it were up to the judges, Sean goes home. If it were up to last week’s results, Ingo goes home. My money is on Sean to go home because of his trio dance.

You can read the full blog at Good Morning America.

Also, Good Morning America may have a review or segment dedicated to the night. Look for it to be posted here.

Stay tuned! Heidi’s new Numbers and Predictions post is coming up! 😉

PureDWTS Season 16 Week 8 Interviews After Dance Night, Judges Talk, And More

Well, I’m still put out with the judges last night!! Apparently, George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet is put out as well as he asked several of the couples about what they thought of the judges bickering and opinions after the show. He also asked the couples on the twitter dance, the 300th episode, and why they think Dancing With The Stars has had such a successful run…..

First, George starts out telling Derek and Kellie he hasn’t seen so much fighting between the judges as he has this season. Derek usually knows when he’s going to get knocked down by one of them, but, he wasn’t expecting it last night being he put in some moves he thought Len would love (Derek explains this to E NEWS as well). On the twitter dance, Kellie and Derek are ready for whatever choice they get. Derek talks of the “moments” he’s had with Dancing With The Stars some of which include Kellie and hopes there will be more. Dancing With The Stars has been an incredible experience.

George thinks Jacoby’s Mom should dance next season. Jacoby says she “can get down”. When asked about the judges differences in opinion of their Paso Doble, Karina says it’s great and everyone has an opinion. She’s proud of their Paso Doble and what Jacoby did with it last night. They also explain which twitter dances they’d like and hope to get and Jacoby promises he “will get down” (lol) no matter what. Jacoby also reassures Raven Nation that he loves them even though he chose yellow and black for their costume colors.

Zendaya and Val are happy with their “30”! Zendaya says she was just having fun and not worrying about the dance. Val says they try to over prepare until Sunday so that Mondays are enjoyable and they can just focus just on the performance. As for the twitter dance, they are looking forward to the challenge even if it’s not a familiar dance for Val to teach. Val thinks Dancing With The Stars is successful because it brings family together and also because of the dancers, etc. He says Tom is the spine of the show (so true!) and he’s thankful to be a part of it all.

Mark and Aly are ok with the twitter dance idea. Aly wants the Afro Jazz. Aly thinks it’s the “packages” for why people love Dancing With The Stars. Mark’s favorite memories have been everything…the dancing and the friends he’s made. Aly is thankful for her fans and how nice they’ve been to her. Mark is proud of her improvement and their Tango. DWTS 16, Week 8 – Power Rankings

Well, this is probably going to be a pretty short ranking, because besides nursing a killer migraine…tonight just kind of sucked.

Ballroom round? Too short, and pretty ho-hum.  Trio round? Only one real standout, a couple that were so-so, and the rest were fails.  And of course, Len continues to be a horrible human being.  I miss Andy more than I thought 🙁 Let’s get this over with…

1.) Zendaya & Val – First off, I probably would have picked a different song for their foxtrot – the fact that it’s a capella made it feel a bit thin & boring.  On top of that, it seemed like it took a little too long to get into the dance, and what I saw, while pleasant to watch, didn’t really excite me.  As for their salsa trio – where was the salsa? I saw a lot of vaguely hip-hoppy stuff and a lot of side-by-side actions, but very little interaction between Zendaya herself and the two guys she was supposed to be dancing with.  And I generally just found some of the choreography to be a bit odd – once again, rather stop-and-go.  It wasn’t a bad dance, per se, but I would dispute the fact that it was a salsa and call attention to the fact that the bulk of it was done individually, as opposed to in couples.  Hell, salsa’s even one of the easier dances to do with 3 people…would it really have been that hard to do a bit more work in-hold? Oh well…they’ve got a 58, so they don’t even have to worry about it…

2.) Kellie & Derek – I feel like they were the only couple tonight that really put a ton of thought into both of their performances, and even figured out a clever way to link the two together.  The Viennese waltz was very pretty, though I would have liked a little bit more of it to be in-hold, because Kellie can handle it; the paso trio was the only dance that really stuck out in my mind tonight, because it was so exciting to watch and it was the only one that actually seemed to work WITH the props they chose, as opposed to just having them there (like several other couples).  Len’s score AND his comment to Bruno about having “something up his ass”? Uncalled for, inappropriate, and I’m just done with that SOB.  If Fox can issue an apology for Steve Tyler’s behavior on Idol, then they can certainly issue one for Len’s behavior on DWTS.  Dude is seriously crossing the line.

3.) Aly & Mark – Man, they’re REALLY trying to make Aly “happen”, aren’t they? Yes, she has grown – somewhat – in her time on DWTS, but I still find her a bit underwhelming to watch.  I actually agreed with (ack) Carrie Ann about her Argentine tango – for as acrobatic & flexible as Aly is, her leg lines seemed a little…weak.  I don’t think it was 29-worthy – maybe 27-worthy.  As for the jive trio – it wasn’t bad, but it was just so BLAND.  Part of it was Aly, but I really just found the choreography to be a bit blah as well – Mark seemed to be erring on the side of safe again.  I have to wonder if she’s not getting the votes – because they seem to be scoring her awfully kindly these days.

4.) Jacoby & Karina – The Viennese waltz was better than I expected, though not his best dance.  Liked the drama of it, but I thought it could be a bit neater.  Actually enjoyed their paso trio with Cheryl, but I feel like the only real problem seemed to be that there was just so much choreography jam-packed into that routine that Jacoby got a little distracted…which could explain why he just kind of flung Cheryl off to the side.  I think they just got so caught up trying to show everything that Jacoby was capable of doing that they may have overwhelmed him.  But overall, I thought he did pretty well with both of his dances tonight…let’s hope that translates into safety.  Not sure what to think after he ended up in jeopardy last week…

5.) Ingo & Kym – Eee gad…this partnership really kind of imploded this week, didn’t it? Kym seems like she’s at her wits end, and Ingo got really, really whiny this time around – that package did not do them any favors.  For all the fussing that they were doing, I think their foxtrot turned out halfway-ok…it was definitely better than Sean’s tango, despite a few little stutters.  The jive trio was basically a dud – you could tell the ladies did everything they could to ensure that Ingo was moving as minimally as possible during that dance, as they did most of the heavy-duty dancing; there was also a rather prolonged entry & exit, perhaps to cut back on the time that Ingo was actually dancing.  I think they’re definitely bottom 2 fodder tomorrow night, and might even end up going home.  They’re just getting hard to watch…

6.) Sean & Peta – Well, I think Sean is probably the weakest dancer left, and I think the judges made clear that it’s Sean they want gone tomorrow night.  The tango felt stompy & awkward, and I could tell that Peta was doing a good deal of backleading in that one.  Jazz trio? Despite having Sharna there to at least offer up some good advice, I think Sean’s trio was probably the biggest fail of the evening.  Like Ingo’s trio, it seemed like they tried to put the ladies front & center whenever they could, and had them doing most of the real moving…although I feel like there was even less actual dancing in this dance than Ingo’s, and Sean was even more awkward attempting some of the jazz steps than Ingo was with the jive steps.  I was pretty much done with Shawn a few weeks ago, and I’m definitely ready to see him go now…the question is: will it be him, or Ingo?

So was anyone else let down by this week’s dances? Go ahead and sound off, I need to lie down…

Kym Johnson Chats About Tonight’s Dances On Dancing With The Stars Week 8

Let’s hope Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson can make a really strong showing tonight!!! Here is a little teaser on tonight’s dance from OK! Magazine.

“We’re just gonna have to put a lot of work in,” says Kym. “I feel Ingo is improving every single week and he’s picking things up a lot quicker so we’ll have more time to refine the dances and make them perfect.”

A challenge in this week’s performance is that each couple is required to add a third dancer to their routine.

“We have Lindsay (Arnold),” says Kym. “I was going to take Cheryl (Burke) but I switched and I let Karina take her because I’m a nice person. Or stupid.”

“One of the things we have is we have a really fun song,” says Ingo. “We have the Jive and I think that will hopefully make it more fun.”

Dancing With The Stars Season 16: Has “Dance Center” Been Killed Off?

First, it was Andy Dick’s elimination we had to protest and now what about this? According to this tweet by Kenny Mayne, producers have “killed” Dance Center this season. This is one of the best things about Dancing With The Stars. Are they crazy? Please TPTB, bring it BACK!!! 🙁 😕

Thanks to @DWTSGossip for the heads up on this news! This makes me sad! 🙁

DWTS Season 16, Weeks 6 and 7 – The Cheesecake Awards, SUPERSIZED!!

Week 7 was actually so bad that I (Heidi) couldn’t come up with very many awards. I was overwhelmed. And not in a good way. 🙂

WEEK 6

The “Who’s That Girl??” Award: Sharna Burgess for looking strikingly different in the rehearsal footage than she does on the actual show.

Heidi: She’s seriously naturally gorgeous without the make up – I think prettier without it. I think it’s the uniqueness of the dark hair and the blue eyes. Let’s hope she keeps it that way. For the love of all that is holy, DO NOT dye your hair blonde, Sharna. I know the temptation may be over whelming, but RESIST. Blonde females are a dime a dozen on that show.

Courtney: I think the makeup department may be to blame in this instance – they just love to over-smoke her eyes, just like they love to over-line Peta’s eyes, and put nude lipstick on Lindsay to make it look like she has no mouth.  They have an uncanny way of making naturally gorgeous ladies look totally over-done.  And as for the blondes – it’s times like this where I really miss Anna.  I could always spot her red hair whipping around in that sea of blonde 🙁

The Award for Person Most likely to Earn a Punch in the Mouth (a.k.a. If you don’t STFU, I’m going to hit you HARD): Len Goodman, Sean Lowe and Ingo Rademacher for the constant mentions of Andy’s name, sometimes in a derrogatory way (Len).

Heidi: Seriously, you jackasses are that threatened by Andy?? Pissing me off, you were. Perhaps you too noticed all the females surround Andy after his dances….Kellie, Sharna, Kym, to name a few. Not to mention Derek is always high fiving him.  Me thinks you dudes are jealous. Don’t know what Len’s problem was – they showed on the results show that they scored Sean because he was “better than Andy.” What the hell??

Courtney: Methinks Sean & Ingo realized that Andy was quickly nipping at their heels in terms of ability – he was improving each week, while they were…languishing.  Plus Andy was gaining popularity, while they were…maybe not.  Andy may not have always been a stellar dancer, but he was definitely not fading into the woodwork like either of them.  As for Len – he’s just a horrible human being.  That’s the conclusion I’ve reached.

The Award for Person Most in Need of A Mirror….and a new lamp….and a glimpse at his Birth Certificate: Mark Ballas, for not only wearing his hat (with what looked to be a penis on it) cocked to the side like he’s all thug, but for wearing hammer pants and having gauges in his ears; (Dis)Honorable Mention: Will.i.am – same reason.

Heidi: Really dude?? You’re pushing 30 and you’re totally a white boy born and raised in London….and not the ‘hood portion.  Justin Bieber…who is what? Eight years younger than you? He looks stupid as hell in those outfits and he’s a kid. You, are an adult.  And I totally kept thinking you had a penis on your hat.  At least Will.i.am always looks stupid – you come to expect it. But Mark, you’re a good looking dude (I prefer blondes, but I can acknowledge it 🙂 ) – why’d you have to ruin it with bizarro costuming even when you’re not performing??

Courtney: I feel like Mark thinks it’s still 2001 and Sum 41 and New Found Glory are still ruling the airwaves.  And Lord knows what was going through Will’s head – that whole performance looked like a robotic bar mitzvah for MC Hammer, held in outer space.  Mazel tov, I guess?

The Blow Harder Award: To the Female Pros Dancing Around Stevie Wonder and blowing him kisses.

Heidi: Yo….Stevie is BLIND. Just sayin’.

Courtney: Poor Stevie probably just wondering why there was a sudden breeze. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 8 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Well, the stupid Twitter vote of the week…is just that. Another stupid twitter vote. Seriously – old men obsessed with Twitter a couple years AFTER the fact = DWTS Producers. So, this week, you get to vote for a dance style for your favorite couple. You get to choose one of these six dances: Afro-Jazz, Disco, Flamenco, Hip-hop, Lindyhop and Charleston. Once again, the producers have made it totally unfair and lopsided by including one dance that most of the pros likely know nothing about….and one dance that one of the contestants does for a living. Yeah, that’s fair. So, sure, let’s take a show that already has a lot of built in unfairness and make it even worse. Afro Jazz in this seasons Bhangra – but somehow I don’t think it will work out nearly as well unless people decide that Derek and Kellie get Afro-Jazz. How about we give the crazy style to someone who already has a lot of advantages – Zendaya. Why do I suspect she’ll end up with the Lindy? Or the hip hop? Not that that will necessarily benefit her this time around. 🙂

Anyway, this week’s dances include trios, which actually worked out pretty well last season. I think, this week, Aly and Mark pretty much hit the jackpot. I think Aly will have no trouble with Jive and will likely be fine with AT. I expect Kellie will also do well with both her dances, although Derek is totally bummed that the V Waltz is only a minute and 6 seconds – how does one “connect” in that amount of time. Expect more crap from Carrie Ann “I hate all women with great bodies” Inaba. Of course, it does sound like Derek has a whole theme going that he “hopes” these judges will get. Good luck on that one, buddy. Probably get crap from Len this week too. I think Jacoby will do great with the Paso, but the V. Waltz?? Trouble. Zendaya? Fine and dandy on Salsa but the Foxtrot?? Probably good on that as well, but I don’t think she was quite as lucky as Aly this week. Not that it will matter.

Well, Derek and Kellie went third last week and Zendaya went last, so with my dance order I’m going to guess that they actually play fair and move Zendaya back to the middle. Which means I’ll be wrong, but it will be worth a shot. 🙂

Jason Derulo And Emeli Sande To Perform On DWTS, Twitter Voting Details For Week 9, and More

ABC MediaNet has posted a new press release announcing the performers for next week which will include Jason Derulo and Emeli Sande!! Both singers will be performing their new singles. Note too how the Macy’s Stars Of Dance segment will feature Derek Hough and Jaimie Goodwin (Yay!)!!! Also released are some dance details as well as details for how our twitter votes will decide the dances for Week 9 (is there a fix here? If so, let us know?). More below and can someone explain to me what an “Afro-Jazz” is? 😯

“Episode 1608 & 1608A” – Six remaining couples take to the dance floor, MONDAY, MAY 6 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC. For the first time this season, each couple will perform two routines in an effort to impress the judges and earn America’s votes. In the first round, the couples will perform a traditional ballroom dance in a style that they’ve not yet done. In the second round, the couples will dance as part of a trio, featuring an eliminated pro or troupe member. In addition, viewers will be called to action on Twitter to choose new dance styles for each couple for the following week of competition. The new styles will include, Afro-Jazz, Disco, Flamenco, Hip-hop, Lindyhop and Charleston.

On TUESDAY, MAY 7, one couple will be eliminated on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by singer Jason DeRulo, who will perform his current single, “The Other Side,”as well as Emeli Sande, who will perform her hit, “Next to Me,” and her new single, “Heaven.” The show will also feature a spectacular opening number choreographed by Jason Gilkison and featuring the pro and troupe dancers. In addition, “Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its final installment of the season, featuring Derek Hough and Jaimie Goodwin. Paying homage to a Fred Astaire classic — but with a modern twist — this mind-bending routine will take place in a rotating room in yet another first for “Dancing with the Stars” and live television.
