As many of you know from our past reporting, past seasons of Dancing With The Stars will start airing in January on the Game Show Network. Yesterday several of our pros and past celebrities showed up in Los Angeles for a photo op in light of the event. Gilles Marini posted a picture at his twitter account (seen above) of himself, Mel B, Maks, Lacey, Derek, Rick Fox, Chaz Bono, Ralph Macchio, and Audrina Partridge. Also on tap for the shoot was J.R. Martinez (not pictured). They look great, don’t they? Be sure to check their twitter accounts when you can as almost all of them tweeted on their excitement about it.
Last night, the CNN Hero Awards, which salutes and honors those everyday individuals who go to extraordinary lengths to serve others and make the world a better place, were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Seen arriving on the Red Carpet below is Dancing With The Stars pro Anna Trebunskaya, Dancing With The Stars Season 13 champ J.R. Martinez (who also presented) and his girlfriend Diana Jones. Other famous faces at the event included host Anderson Cooper, Piers Morgan, Chris Colfer, Sofia Vergara, and Rachel Crow. Miley Cyrus and Kid Rock were the musical performers. The 2011 CNN Hero of the Year was awarded to Robin Lim, an American woman who offers free prenatal care, birthing services, and medical aid to Indonesian women.
I so want Anna’s dress!
I think probably the worst question people like to ask is “Who SHOULD win DWTS?” I’m totally fine with the questions, Who will win?, Who do you want to win?, Who deserves to win?, Who’s the best dancer?, Who’s the most improved? etc. I just think the question of SHOULD just doesn’t work.
At the end of the day, the judges scores end up basically not mattering at all. All of them score nearly the same (with a few rare exceptions) and so it’s just up to the public voting. Who America votes for is a crazy and often unpredictable.
Here’s the perfect example. I was driving home today and the guy on the radio listed off the DWTS finalists. Then, he said that he thought Rob should win because he has to put up with his sister. What kind of reasoning is that?
I don’t have anything against Rob. To be quite honest, I’m fine if any of the final 3 win. I’d love for Karina finally won a mirror ball and how could someone complain about a guy as classy as JR? Derek and Ricki have done great throughout the season. I think almost everyone is pretty much shocked that Rob is in the finals. I live in Vegas and I’m pretty sure the casinos would have taken all the money they could have taken for bets that Rob would have made the finals.
My point is that those voting don’t make rational decisions. America’s not consistent with who they vote for. One season they might vote for most improved. One season they might vote for best story. One season they might vote for best dancer. One season they might vote for the cutest. It’s not who should win, cause there’s no should when America starts voting.
What should happen is we should enjoy the finale, be amazed and impressed by the performances and just enjoy the spectacle that is DWTS. At least that’s what I plan to do.
Over the weekend, Access Hollywood caught up with Karina at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s “40 Years of Family” Gala. She tells them how her and J.R. have been rehearsing for 10 hours a day. She talks about each dance tonight as well. Get ready. Their Argentine Tango is going to “have a lot of lifts”.
Kat Tales also shot this video of J.R. and Karina in the rehearsal parking lot over the weekend. J.R. comments “not good” when he’s asked about this week.
Things look a little tense. I can’t imagine the pressure they all must be under and sometimes the people expected to do the best have even more pressure since there are so many high expectations. But, I’m sure everything will be ok for tonight for these two.
Bring it J.R. and Karina!! Don’t fold under the pressure now!
In a new interview with InTouch Weekly Magazine, Tony Dovolani talks of Chynna Phillips and their elimination. He also makes a prediction for who will win Dancing With The Stars Season 13 and more. Thanks to @DWTSgossip for the heads up on this video.
Also, be sure to pick up a copy of InTouch Weekly Magazine this week if you are a Ricki Lake fan. Ricki talks of her “soul mate”.
For talk show queen-turned Dancing With the Stars darling Ricki Lake, finding true love didn’t come easy. But after a 10-year marriage to artist Rob Sussman — they had two sons before splitting in 2003 — Ricki, 43, is now happily engaged to jewelry designer Christian Evans. “He’s amazing!” Ricki gushes to In Touch in an exclusive interview. “It took me 42 years to find the right one.”
J.R. has been chosen as the Grand Marshal of the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade. Below is more from E Online.
The Iraq War vet, who was seriously burned when his Humvee hit a land mine during the war, is a perfect fit for this year’s “Just Imagine…” parade theme, said the Tournament of Roses Association.
Martinez says he’s grateful for the opportunity to share his message of “hope and possibility” and honor all fellow wounded military personnel with the big game’s coin toss.
Tournament of Roses president Rick Jackson called Martinez the perfect pick because of his “courage and dedication” to all Americans facing challenges. The Dancing With the Stars fan favorite is one of six contestants still competing on the reality competition.
Wow, what an honor for J.R. and so well deserved!!
ADDING: Below is J.R. talking about being picked the Grand Marshal….
I’ll let the interview do the talkin’ on this one!
Thanks to @DWTSGossip at twitter!!
J.R. covers the new issue of People Magazine. In their cover story, J.R. explains how blessed he is and it’s because of the “energy he’s putting out in the world”. He dishes on his remarkable journey from his accident on the battlefield to his dancing in the ballroom. I love this quote from the link….
“When you show people who you really are and you’re genuine, you don’t have to force positivity,” says Martinez, who is confident with the man he’s become. “I’m not your typical person walking down the street. I’m cool with being different.”
For the full story, be sure pick up the November 7th issue of People Magazine on newsstands Friday. You can view the cover and a teaser on the interview here.
Cameron Mathison from Good Morning America says J.R. “has charmed everyone on Dancing With The Stars” and isn’t that the truth. His “charisma, jest for life, and all of his dances have kept him at the top of the leader board for 5 weeks running.” Cameron is so proud to call him his “close friend” which you can see is apparent in this interview.
While they walk in a park discussing J.R.’s life, you can also see J.R.”s dog, Romeo, who has the same amazing “focus” as J.R.
The camera goes into rehearsals and Cameron gives J.R. advise on dancing as well.
Great personal interview!!!
ADDING: In this new touching video on Access Hollywood, J.R.’s former nurses and doctors send him good luck wishes for Dancing With The Stars. I can’t embed it, but, be sure to watch it at the link.
Last night, the Circle of Care Foundation presented J.R. Martinez with a “Spirit of Hope Award” which was created “to honor burn survivors who inspire others with their actions”. There to attend the special event award were friends and fellow Dancing With The Stars partner, Karina Smirnoff, and competitor, David Arquette. Below is some coverage from KABC in Los Angeles.
X17 also was able to get some footage and interviews. Carson attended the event as well…
Also and speaking of “inspirational” as always, below is a new ABC video of J.R. giving some helpful advise to a person enlisting in the Marines….
