PureDWTS Season 25, Week -2: What’s Gettin’ Court’s Goat Today??? Jake T. Austin, Canadian Voting, Married Couples on DWTS

Given that we’re roughly 2 weeks out from the premiere, let’s just think of this as week negative 2 😛 Came up with this post to cobble together odds and ends that maybe weren’t quite enough to warrant their own post, but I wanted to share nonetheless – this may or may not become a regular feature, depending on just how often I’m finding my goat gotten by this show 😛 ONWARD!!! Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS Season 23, Week 6 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

It’s Latin Night!!  I’ll be very curious to see how everyone does. For my own thinking purposes, I listed which contestant has done which latin dance (per Wiki). I didn’t remember DWTS including Jive in the latin dance category so I did a bit of research to see what DWTS typically calls “latin”. All the way back to season 17, it was A.Tango, Paso, rumba, Salsa, Samba and Cha Cha. In season 17, the included 3 Jives, but no salsa or Cha Cha. Season 16 included a Jive dance off in Latin week. In season 14 they ONLY did Samba, Salsa and A. Tango. Seems that would gave been better to replace either Salsa or Samba with Cha Cha for a bit of obvious variety. I don’t expect we’ll be so lucky to only get 2 or 3 styles so they can compare the couples. Nah. That’s all the research I had energy for, so I included who did Jive in my list.

Laurie – Cha Cha, Jive, Paso
Calvin – Cha Cha
Marilu – Jive, Paso
Maureen – Salsa, A.Tango
James – Paso, Cha Cha
Jana – Jive
Ryan – Cha Cha
Terra – Samba
Amber – Salsa, A.Tango, Samba

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 5 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Okay, so word on the street…can’t remember where I heard it…is that we’re back to Most Memorable Year. Let’s see who they’re going to hose this week. 🙂

ETA: Vogue here. According to a live chat at Hollywood Today Live Facebook, James and Sharna have a Tango.

ETA2: Val and Laurie have a Paso Doble to a slow and intense song according to this interview in this post.

ETA3: The rest of the dances and songs have been filled. Thanks to Just Jared Jr via ABC.

ETA4: Here’s the running order per George Pennachio. We’ll have to see if there are set pieces that dictated this. Calvin’s kinda hosed two weeks in a row and Laurie gets top of the second hour – very favorable spot as per usual.

Maureen and Artem – Foxtrot (song: “From the Ground Up” by Dan + Shay)
1-800-868-3409
Dancing 1st

Calvin and Lindsay – Jazz –(song: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell)
1-800-868-3403
Dancing 2nd

Jana and Gleb – Contemporary – (song: “In My Daughter’s Eyes” by Martina McBride)
1-800-868-3406
Dancing 3rd

Ryan and Cheryl – Contemporary – (song: “A Song for You” by Leon Russell)
1-800-868-3411
Dancing 4th

Laurie and Val – Paso Doble (song: “Rise” by Katy Perry)
1-800-868-3407
Dancing 5th

Marilu and Derek – Viennese Waltz (song: ““Surprise Yourself” by Jack Garratt)
1-800-868-3408
Dancing 6th

Amber and Maks – Samba (song: “Woman Up” by Meghan Trainor)
1-800-868-3401

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 4 – Dancing by the Numbers!

Well, another night of crap ass scoring by judges who were having a hard time hiding their agenda. I mean what the hell was going on there? It’s almost like they got together before the show, had some wine and decided what scores they were going to hand out…and then several people over performed and didn’t match the low scores that were determined over drinks.

A huge problem with this show – HUGE – is the assigning of themes and dances. You give Laurie – the gymnast – a dance with few to no rules on a week where the theme whose middle name is “gymnastics”. Then you turn around and give EVERYONE else dances with very clear rules – and mark them down when they don’t execute. Of course Laurie got 10s – there was no way to “miss” a step, or have not enough body contact, or whatever. It’s ridiculous that you have couples dancing Jazz up against V.Waltz, Quickstep, Paso Doble and Tangos. Ridiculous. But worst of all, Val had a dance where anything goes, to an MJ song, with a 16 year old gymnast…and did we see anything close to what both Derek and Mark choreographed when they had partners with similar skill sets? Nope. Not even close. It’s a waste of a great partner.

:::sigh::: But why bother? I’m not the least bit surprised.

Anyway, I think Babyface is likely history and I’m thinking that Marilu will end up being safe. She and Calvin were both so underscored that I suspect they are getting the votes. I hope so, anyway.  Here’s where the leaderboard was at the end of the night…and keep in mind tomorrow is a double elimination. Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

I’m a little bummed out after this past Monday’s show and Tuesday’s result show, if I’m being honest. I’m not sure where that feeling is coming from. It just felt so freakin’ manipulated and REALITY Show-y if that makes any sense. From the stealth cameras recording every move of every contestant, to the attempts to elevate some couples at other couples’ expense – it’s all just tiring. Let these people dance and have a good time (and let us have a good time) and judge the actual dancing for god’s sake.

And now, this week, we have a brand new theme week tailor made for their designated winner of the season. Cirque week. Maybe it’ll turn into Shark week yet again. Joy. Anyway, according to Maks’ blog, they are tangoing to Zumanity and he doesn’t seem entirely pleased about it. I kinda feel his pain. Yer kinda screwed no matter which way you go.

ETA: Just Jared Jr has posted the Cirque du Soleil shows for each couple. They’ve also given dance information for the Results Show on Tuesday. More below…

On the results show on Tuesday (October 4), DNCE will perform their new single, “Body Moves,” and there will be an all-male dance number in which the male pros of “Dancing with the Stars” perform to the song “Ain’t No Sunshine.” In addition, Derek will choreograph and dance to a special number.

At the end of the night, the third elimination of the season, based on combined viewer and judges’ scores from October 3, will take place.

ETA2: Gee…some people ALWAYS go in the last quarter of the show. But she’s not pimped….

Calvin and Lindsay – Charleston (Song: ____ – KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities)
1-800-868-3403
Dancing 1st

Dancing with the Stars Season 23, Week 3 – Dancing by the Numbers!

This was written during and after the first (HISTORIC) Presidential Debate. You’ve been warned. 🙂

I have a sniffing, loud guy in my ear, so I’m having a hard time concentrating, but how on earth is Terra two points ahead of Marilu?? This is a mystery to me. I think Marilu had a balance problem right at the beginning of her dance (she’s 64, after all), but that was a good dance. Then again, how did Laurie get a full three points more than her, lift and all?? And is that the first time Val’s ever actually been called on a lift? He’s done them before but I don’t remember him getting so nailed on it.

Anyway, I think Terra (and Laurie) did do a good job, I just don’t get the scoring two weeks in a row that insulates her. I’m afraid that once the people they want to leave, actually leave the scoring may change and that is fair to no one. It’s whiplash inducing for people who don’t know just how manipulated this show really is.  Read more..
