This past week, Dancing With The Stars Elizabeth Berkley stopped by “Fashion Police” to talk about her best and worst red carpet looks with Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, and company! The red Ralph Lauren dress she mentions is gorgeous! Check it out if interested!! *wonders to self if we will ever see Joan Rivers do Dancing With The Stars?
In part one of my typecasting analysis, we took a look at who we might get from the Olympian, athlete, model, comedian, legend, & soap star categories. Now let’s take a look at the other 6 categories and speculate on who else we might see before tonight’s cast announcement!
EDITOR’S NOTE: The site is getting hit with an extraordinary amount of hits right now (which is great! ) but it’s also slowing us bloggers down while we post – hence, there are no links in this edition because it’s just taking too long to add them all in. However, you can access all of the DWTS casting rumors in Vogue’s post from the other day if you need a refresher on some of these
The Teen Idol
Previous examples: Joey McIntyre, Aaron Carter, Donny Osmond, Lance Bass, Mel B., Joey Fatone, Drew Lachey, Joey Lawrence, Ian Ziering, Cody Linley, Sabrina Bryan, Mario Lopez, Kyle Massey
Advantages: If sales of Tiger Beat are any indicator, the teenyboppers will come out in full force to support their favorite heartthrobs/idols. Being young & good-lookin’ sure doesn’t hurt! Many also have the added advantage of having a decent dance background, especially if they were part of a musical act.
Disadvantages: Youth can also have its disadvantages – as in immaturity. What some might call “youthful exuberance”, others might call “immaturity” or “attention deficit disorder” – poor Cody Linley had a hard time sitting still! Emotional immaturity (a la Aaron Carter’s post-rumba meltdown in the confessional) can be especially off-putting.
Possible candidates this season: I think the Lindsay Lohan rumor has been almost completely shot down, but Full House fans have been campaigning for both Jodie Sweetin & Candace Cameron Bure in the online voting. I’ve also seen a surge of support within the past few days for New Kids on the Block member Jonathan Knight to do the show.
Previous examples: Jerry Springer, Brooke Burke, Leeza Gibbons, Mario Lopez, Kenny Mayne, Lisa Rinna, Tucker Carlson, Mark Dacascos, Rocco DiSpirito, Erin Andrews
Advantages: Being that they’ve been at the helm of their own shows, these guys usually have the media savvy & charisma to appeal to the masses, as well as the previous exposure & recognizability. Most (not all!) are also decently attractive, which never seems to hurt (unless, of course, you’re a model – see previous post for explanation).
Disadvantages: Many hosts are only used to hosting – as in just sitting down & talking (or dodging the occasional punch, if you’re Springer), so the lack of movement experience problem seems to come into play.
Possible candidates this season: Wendy Williams name has been repeated quite a bit, although Joan Rivers’ name was out there for awhile as a possible contestant.
Previous examples: John O’Hurley, Melissa Joan Hart, Steve Guttenburg, John Ratzenberger, Debi Mazar, Denise Richards, Ted McGinley, Shannon Elizabeth, Jennie Garth, Vivica Fox, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Shannen Doherty, Jennifer Grey, David Hasselhoff
Advantages: Being that their bread & butter is acting, most can usually nail the emotions of the dances. Bonus points if they’ve done any Broadway (like Winokur) because they have likely had dance experience.
Disadvantages: For lack of a better term, many of them seem to be “has-beens” – actors that haven’t been particularly active in the mainstream in the past several years – or were never that big to begin with (can anyone else think of anything John O’Hurley has been in BESIDES Seinfeld?), making it harder for them to garner votes from a public who may not remember them.
Possible candidates this season: Lorenzo Lamas has been claiming he’s on the casting “short list” for weeks now, so we’re thinking he’s a lock.
The Reality Star
Previous examples: Kim Kardashian, Kelly Osbourne, Melissa Rycroft, Steve-O, Holly Madison, Trista Sutter, Shanna Moakler, Kate Gosselin, Jake Pavelka, Audrina Patridge, The Situation
Advantages: Many have achieved pop culture icon status on their respective reality outlets, making them fairly recognizable.
Disadvantages: They may be memorable for the wrong reasons – people tended to remember things like Kim Kardashian’s sex tape more than her reality show, and people seemed more focused on Holly Madison’s split from Hef than her antics on The Girls Next Door. Many can also come across as attention-hungry & talentless – reality TV is often looked down upon as a way to get famous without having any talent whatsoever.
Possible candidates this season: Aside from the omnipresent Heidi Montag rumor and ridiculous rumors about both NeNe Leakes & Kim Zolciak from The Real Housewives of Atlanta, we’ve also heard of former Idol contestant Danny Gokey gunning for a spot.
Previous examples: Mya, Billy Ray Cyrus, Mario, Belinda Carlisle, Master P, Chuck Wicks, Sara Evans, Willa Ford, Monique Coleman, Toni Braxton, Macy Gray, Nicole Scherzinger
Advantages: As with the teen idols, many have had dance experience concurrent with their music careers.
Disadvantages: Most seem to be committed solely to one genre of music (often R&B or country), making it hard to appeal to a wide fanbase.
Possible candidates this season: There’s been big campaigns in the online voting for both Zack Wilde & Paul Byrom, but nothing really “legit” to go off of.
The Wild Card
Previous examples: Heather Mills, Tom DeLay, Mark Cuban, Steve Wozniak, Priscilla Presley, Buzz Aldrin, Bristol Palin
Advantages: The sheer novelty of having someone with such an off-the-beaten-path claim to fame (famous divorcee/widow, entrepreneur, disgraced politician, etc.) may be enough to have the public voting them – just to see what happens. Being the “underdog” is a powerful thing…as we saw with Bristol last season!
Disadvantages: Due to their often dubious fame, people just may not have any clue who they are – I personally had to Google Mark Cuban’s name. There’s also the risk of backlash from some viewers who don’t think they’re “stars” per se, and shouldn’t even be on the show in the first place.
Possible candidates this season: Not sure if it was the hailstorm of controversy from Bristol last season or what, but this category was booming with rumors this season – everyone from Tony Robbins to Christine O’Donnell to Al Sharpton to Brooke Mueller. Will any of them actually do the show? That remains to be seen.
So we’re mere hours away from the official announcement, gang – who do you think is in and who do you think is just wishful thinking? So, let’s do a summary round-up of all the celebrities that might or might not be dancing on Dancing With The Stars Season 12. Below is a list of each celebrity with a link back to our original reportings on each of them for why we thought they garnished attention or a mention.
Julie Benz -Tom Bergeron’s Dream Contestant!
iJustine -A You Tube sensation dying to get on the show. She and her fan base worked overtime campaigning for her at ABC.com
Maria Kanellis -Maria was on early rumor but, we haven’t heard much regarding her since.
Joan Rivers -Joan has thrown her hat into the ring just about every year and for some reason, execs won’t bite.
Donna D’Errico -After doing a little early campaigning with Lorenzo Lamas to do the show, Donna changed her mind. She said she had other dreams of finding Noah’s Ark in Turkey and doing a cooking show instead.
Kim Zolciak -Kim remarked at Twitter she was “weighing options” for Dancing With The Stars.
Brooke Mueller – Brooke is Charlie Sheen’s former wife and has been rumored to be in talks with DWTS, but as of Feb. 3rd hadn’t received a formal offer.
Colleen Zenk -Sources recently told Colleen she was the most supported to dance on the show for a “Daytime Actor” and that the fans have been heard. Then she said “big things are ahead” and hopes we’ll join her for the ride.
LeAnn Rimes -LeAnn said she’d do the show if Benji Schwimmer would.
Lee Meriwether - Lee is tight lipped and won’t confirm or deny at twitter, but, she tweeted in November she was “trying to get on the show” and to “cross our fingers”. This isn’t the first Season Lee has been rumored to dance. She very much wants to do the show.
Kendra Wilkinson – E News (usually a very good source for DWTS) reported Kendra was in talks to do the show. Their source told them, “Her personality, combined with her ability to dance, is appealing”. Perez Hilton has reported that she has signed.
Wendy Williams -Like Lee, Wendy won’t confirm or deny at Twitter, but rumors on this contender are rampant. I was told recently at Twitter (thanks @upclose22 ) that Wendy’s sister said she can’t keep a secret. However, in this case, Wendy is definitely keeping a secret if she is indeed dancing. Perez Hilton said she has signed. Though Wiki can’t always be trusted, they are reporting her Reps have confirmed this news as well (Thanks to @BotanicalLilly).
Candice Cameron Bure – Some rumors started to appear on Candice and then quickly faded out when she tweeted she hadn’t been asked (as of Feb. 16th).
Christine O’Donnell – This controversial political guru (I like Courtney’s description of her MUCH better-follow link ) posted at her Facebook that she was mulling over an offer and asked her supporters if she should consider it. DWTS fans everywhere have been gasping and fearing Bristol Palin Part 2.
Nastia Liukin -Nastia is the perfect fill for the Olympian spot and both her and Mark Ballas have recently started following each other at Twitter.
Vera Wang – One of her new tweets and rumors from previous Seasons has made us suspicious that Vera might be doing the show this year.
Faye Dunaway – Rumorfix.com reported that this A-lister has signed to do the show. What a coo this would be for the show (and fans alike) if true!!!
Kirstie Alley -Perez Hilton was the first to report Kirtsie has signed to do the show. As of the time of this post, Kirstie won’t confirm or deny at twitter which leads many of us to believe Kirstie is doing the show.
Jodie Sweetin -Jodie has been campaigning to do the show, has expressed her love of dance all of her life, and is following Maks (only) at Twitter.
Elin Nordegren -She is Tiger Wood’s wife and the most recent addition to this list. Extra supposedly has been reporting on this. But, I can’t find where?
Zakk Wilde -Black Label Society’s and Ozzy Osbourne’s former front man was campaining early to do the show.
Tony Robbins -Tony remarked at Twitter Dancing With The Stars wants him to dance this Season, but said QVC is his limit.
Lorenzo Lamas – One of our earliest rumored celebrities, Lorenzo has said he very much wants to do the show and would if asked. He’s been seen at several dancing events and hanging out with the pros of the show.
Kris Joseph -Rumors were flying on Twitter on Kris dancing and then he squashed it when he said, “Where are all these crazy rumors emerging from? This aint even funny anymore.”
Brett Favre -Rumors are still popular on this possibility, but his daugher tweeted he wasn’t doing the show (as of Feb. 11th). Heidi’s Note: Pretty sure this one was always bull started by Kurt Warner.
Al Sharpton – Rev. Al said “no” when a recent offer came in even though he said he’d “BLOW ‘EM OUT” with his dance moves.
Carlos Leon -Carlos has turned down an offer several times to dance on the show, but, if asked this Season he said he’d do it.
Chris Jericho – Rumors on this possibility are still on-going even though Chris has recently announced several big commitments. Chris is also following the Official DWTS twitter account.
Dane Cook – A new addition to this list since he and Cheryl have added themselves to their twitter accounts. I saw this for myself last night after it was reported by PureDWTS reader Jennifer (Thanks Jennifer) and now Dane has taken her off which makes me suspicious. Follow comments at link.
Tatum Channing -Also a new addition to this list being Chelsie has just added him to her twitter account. Thanks to PureDWTS reader Susan for this heads up. Follow comments at link.
Hines Ward – A Steeler Wide receiver. Heidi suspected something was up with a “Steeler” being signed a couple of weeks ago.
So, there ya go!! Yes Louis, we are not going to let you down!
Stay tuned for Heidi to follow me up with a “Pairings” post because, as serious and past followers to this site know, she has a serious knack for forecasting.
Heidi’s Note: Well thanks, but I’m good at forecasting who will be on the show, I suck pretty bad lately at the partners.
If we hear of more rumored celebrities, we’ll be sure to update this post.
Like Heidi, I’ve been running into some celebrities and people out there dying to be on DWTS next season. Here is one I really had to scratch my head on. I had no idea who “Ijustine” was until I was over at The ABC Dancing With The Stars “Pick the Cast” link with her and/or her fans flooding the link with their votes. If you don’t know who she is, she’s a You Tube sensation currently. Guess who she wants as a partner if this video is of any hint?
Black Label Society’s and Ozzy Osbourne’s former front man, Zakk Wilde, has posted he wants to be on DWTS next season on his My Space page. He’s also getting a lot of votes from his fan base currently.
Vote for Zakk to be on the next Dancing With The Stars! And yes we are serious! http://abc.go.com/shows/dancing-with-the-stars/cast-season12
Last week, I ran onto this scary possibilty. lol In this video Joan Rivers mentions how she’d do the show if asked.
TWNpNews is reporting former WWE diva Maria Kanellis has asked her fans to vote for her to be on the show. Here she is in case you’ve never seen her before.
And then there is Tom Bergeron’s dream contestant. In case you missed it, last week, he tweeted Julie Benz that he wanted her on the show. Here’s the transcript of their brief exchange:
Bergeron: Post-vacation, I’d love 2 see you pulling double duty. No Ordinary Family & DWTS. U should be able 2 do a REALLY fast quickstep!
Benz: I would love to!!!!!
Bergeron: Good to know! It has synergy written all over it. And spray tan. And teeny little costumes!
Benz: some do it for the dance… I would do it for the spray tan and teeny sparkle costumes!!!
Here is a take from Zap2it on this strong possibility which I agree with.
Whether or not Bergeron has any pull regarding casting choices, this sounds like an interesting proposal and certainly a smart one should ABC and the DWTS producers go for it.
Currently in its freshman season, No Ordinary Family has been having difficulty in the ratings during the last few weeks, despite its continually improving creative stride. What better way to pull in more viewers than to have one of your stars compete in one of the highest rated shows on your network?
As for what DWTS would get out of it, they’d have the opportunity to bring some class back to their ballroom by adding to their cast a current, relevant celebrity who has actually earned the “star” label, rather than continuing to turn their dance floor into the reality TV equivalent of a 10-car pileup by trolling the tabloids for pseudo-celebs without any star-quality whatsoever.
If Bergeron can pull some weight to make this happen, you can bet I’ll be back amongst the throng of those frantically phoning in their votes on Tuesday nights.
Ok, so what do you think of these possibilities for DWTS Season 12? I think I like the Julie Benz idea the most and she would make the perfect partner for Derek, Tony, or Maks I think.
Just a few things to share here and there before “the calm before the storm” tomorrow night!! How is everyone doing on this Sunday?
First up, we have a fun article on Florence talking about how close she’s become to Bristol from Hollywood Life. Here is a snippet.
“I’ve bonded with most of them but I have a special connection with Bristol,” she told HollywoodLife.com “She has gravitated towards me. She always comes and sits next to me.”
Awww, that sounds cute. Florence, who is well known for her portrayal of Carol Brady on the hit family sit-com The Brady Bunch from 1969-1974, explained why Bristol struck a chord inside her.
“I think I feel very motherly toward her,” she said.
Here’s Florence on the challenge it’s been to dance.
So far, Florence has managed to cheat elimination on DWTS and explained she’s been working extra hard to keep up with her younger counterparts, who at times can’t even sit up!
“I think it is a challenge for everybody not just me. I see a lot of the younger ones sitting all slumped over. Certainly I feel sore and tired. I think the experience is going well for me,” she said. “[The show has made me] a better dancer and a much stronger person. In addition to [dancing] 4 or 5 hours a day, I have to get on the treadmill before I get there for 40 minutes.”
But, this snippet got me a little steamed this morning. Look what Joan Rivers tweeted about Florence. Geez, what is Joan’s problem? I use to think Joan was kind of funny. But, lately she makes these malicious, ‘over the top’ snarly remarks on people even more than she’s done in the past. Why is that?
Wow, sounds like Florence is kicking butt, but her hard work hasn’t kept her from being picked on for her less-than-youthful appearance by TV personality, Joan Rivers. Joan took to her Twitter to let everyone know she thinks Flo should retire her dancing shoes.
“Thinking about DWTS. Florence Henderson should be the next one voted off just for shaking those tired old boobs around the dance floor,” she wrote.
The nerve …as if Joan River’s set of b**bs are any better whether she is shaking them or not??
If you haven’t read yet, this week there were some rumors circulating that there is something going on between Kyle and Lacey romantically. But, Lacey has told sources that Kyle is only like a little brother to her and nothing else. There is a cute spread of the two in the Daily Mail. Here they are eating junk food. I think if DWTS were to give out “The Most Funny Couple” on the show this year, it would have to be this one. Do you agree? Again, don’t miss these two on The Ellen Show tomorrow before the show.
Ok, that is it for now. Maybe more later.
