Ryan Lochte thought his previous dances on Dancing With The Stars was hard, but, nothing prepared him for how hard the Salsa would be. More below from Yahoo as he preview’s tonight’s dance.
This week we’re doing a salsa. And man, I gotta tell you, I thought the other dances were hard, but phew! Salsa’s got me going. It is really hard.
The music is really fast, so that automatically gets you kind of flustered in your head because you want to try to dance on the beat. And then you have to know your steps, and you have to move your hips, and you have to move your arms a certain way, and you’re swinging your head. So it’s like five different things going on at once, and then trying to keep up with the tempo, so it is just … frustrating! I think this is the hardest dance I’ve had to do.
Quickstep was hard because you’re moving so fast, but before going into this competition I thought the salsa would be really hard for me, and I was right. I’m getting better as the days go on, but I’m missing almost a day-and-a-half of rehearsal this week because I’m going to a wedding, so it’s gonna be rough. I’m really hoping that at today’s rehearsal I’m just 100 percent focused, geared in, so then Saturday at the wedding maybe I can even practice. Hopefully Kayla, my fiancée, will help me. I’ll just tell them to put salsa on! And I can foxtrot, I’ll quickstep, I can cha-cha…

This week we’re doing contemporary dance. I have no idea what that is. I’m still trying to figure that out and we’ve had, like, two days of rehearsal. The steps aren’t too difficult, but contemporary is more emotional, it’s more about feelings and stuff like that, so I think that’s the hardest part. I’m getting the steps. The steps are becoming easier for me now, now I just have to sell it. I have to really put my heart and soul into this, and it’s hard.
I’m doing the year 2008, when I won my very first Olympic individual gold medal. I’m dedicating this routine to my mom. She has been there through my entire journey. And through my whole swimming journey I’ve had up and downs, I’ve had a lot of bumps in the road, and she was always there to help me and to keep me fighting and keep on the right track and headed towards my dreams. So that’s what the whole routine is going to be about.

In the middle of Dancing With the Stars rehearsals, the Olympic athlete decided to escape and pull off a special proposal for girlfriend Kayla Rae Reid.
“Memories forever!!! #thelochtes #LA,” Ryan shared on Instagram Sunday evening as his fiancé showed off a stunning diamond ring in the Malibu Canyon.
Kayla added, “Speechless. Absolutely beautiful. So in love with YOU.”
