DWTS All Stars, Week 8 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Wild and crazy week ahead!!  Karina’s hurt now, according to her facebook, Derek’s back, it’s a double elimination week and I’ve got random gossip that will have a whole bunch of people probably pissed off before I’m done. :-)  Yay!!

But first!!  Who’s dancing what??

ETA1: This may surprise some of you, but apparently Sasha was Karina’s #1 choice for their 3rd trio member – she thinks he’s a great dancer & athlete and actually has Apolo watch videos of Sasha dancing in order to understand technique.  She’s even letting him have input on the choreography of their jive, so she must see some sort of advantage in him.  Fingers crossed! -Court-

ETA2: I think we’re a bit unsure about Gilles song – we know they’re using it, but it could be someone else’s song.  We’re pretty sure it’s Gilles. Speaking of Gilles…the Douche lord strikes again. He apparently  claims that “The Hispanic community is going to love my song!” because it’s sung by “The greatest salsa singer of all-time!” He also googled salsa and was explaining to Peta that “since there are no rules in salsa, the judges can’t judge me on my weird hands”.  Apparently Peta just nodded her head and said “Mmmhmmm” and then proceeded to chug some bleach. That part may have been Courtney’s wishful thinking. :-)  Supposedly they also were asking him how he was faring with the trio dance, since he’d never done it before, and he kept insisting “Oh, I’ve had a threesome before.” Perv.  The very worst thing about Gilles and what makes him so annoying is that he thinks he’s funny and charming and sexy, when he’s really just a douche lord. I think he has the original douche lord (Scott Disick) beat by a mile.

ETA3: Geez, Kelly’s song doesn’t play into the faux-mance AT ALL (cue end sarcasm).  I wonder how much drooling all over each other they will do this week – while Val is in uniform and there’s fog (just a guess, not intel).  And OMG – Gilles referenced Top Gun in one of his tweets this morning.  Dude, youse getting way to easy to predict. Bad sign. He says it’s going to be a “great homage” to all the Veterans.  I guess that means we were right about his quickstep song.   Hint: Both of Melissa’s songs, one of Gilles songs, one of Kirstie’s and one of Emmitt’s  have all been used on the show before – for a combined total of 7 other times. Gilles’ song “Danger Zone” was Kurt & Anna’s jive in season 11. A virtual pat on the back who can guess the song that Melissa is dancing to when I say….Marie Osmond also danced to it. :-)

ETA4: Okay, it appears we mixed a couple things up. Kelly is doing Viennese Waltz, not plain waltz and Emmitt is the one with Love Letters. Courtney told me to blame her. :-) But seriously, we often know the songs but sometimes have to guess at who has what. And what dance style they put with a given song. Yes, there are apparently FOUR V. Waltzs. We’ve heard that Gilles is boring as hell and that his trio is going, AGAIN, for the trashy. We’ve also heard that Emmitt’s trio is hilarious and fun, full of spins and tricks (and he’s managing to LEAD both ladies) – and he’ll likely upstage Gilles. Hope that’s not wishful thinking on all our parts. :-)  Laila gets the virtual high 5 for guessing Melissa’s song FIRST. :-)

ETA5: So, apparently Kelly’s Trio is cute, but Apolo’s has better choreo and crazy tricks. Whereas Shawn and Derek’s Trio is “trick free” this week, although the choreo might still give them trouble with Len – which is a surprise to exactly NO ONE, I suppose, after hearing the song. We’re GUESSING the “surprise” Shirley alluded to on Facebook might be the actual artist performing their song.  We don’t actually know this, we’re just guessing. I reiterate again *guessing* – just so we’re clear. :-)  As a teaser for later, I will tell you that Courtney is “shocked and dismayed” by the song they gave to Kirstie for her Trio. BTW, I put in a “read more” tag cuz this post is getting WAY too long, since I added the picture of my future former husband. ;-)

ETA6: So the douche lord is going 5th. For those of you obsessed with the running order, that’s really not so good when everyone is doing two dances. Kinda middle of the pack. NOT THAT IT MATTERS ANYWAY at this point in the season.  Just sayin’. Tired of saying that. People are either voting for a given couple now or they aren’t.

ETA7: I’ve seen claims that Kirstie is going third, which would automatically put Shawn first. Any links??

Kirstie Alley Talks About DWTS, Clarifies Twisted Words On Rumored Affairs (Videos)

Kirstie Alley tells Jimmy Kimmell that “”it’s rough” on Dancing With The Stars this season being it’s the “all stars”. She’s also put out with Jimmy because he didn’t choose her to win in his predictions. Then they talk about her new book “The Art Of Men”. She also clarifies that she never had an affair with John Travolta and Patrick Swayze and how an interviewer twisted her words (figures and I’m not surprised!). She tells Jimmy that “they” (John, Lisa?) new about the book and gave her permission to tell her story and they are not upset with her.

Just a reminder, you’ll be able to see Kirstie on 20/20 tonight as well.

ETA1: Here she is on ET as well…

I'm a fashion and music nut....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Derek Hough (one of my favorite dancers) said at a recent Get Healthy event that ‘dancing’ is an outward expression of what is going on inside you. He says that in some ways, everyone dances and it's so true. To TPTB, how about this song for next season's theme song? Robin G Ft. Wilunleashed - A Good Time (Original) // Download High Quality

DWTS Season 15, Week 7 – Dancing by the Numbers

As everyone knows by now, no one went home this week. But in case you want to know how the judges scores are going to affect who ultimately goes home, I thought I would run the numbers for the week. After the Week 8 dances, I’ll run the numbers again and you can compare.

Here are the Week 7 scores and percentages:

As you can see, Melissa appears to be safely at the top of the leader board. So was Sabrina. The difference this week is that there is a MUCH larger spread between the top and the bottom. Unfortunately for Melissa (and others) there are two more dance scores to be added to each celeb before anyone is eliminated, which will tighten the margins and make it easier for someone to go home.  When Sabrina went home, there was only 6.5 points between the top and the bottom. Right now there are 10 points between Kirstie and Melissa – but that is likely to change.

I think it likely that Shawn and Apolo are safe – of course we can’t be sure, but that’s what my instincts are saying. I’m also inclined to believe that Emmitt is safe. But, this is where predicting who goes home gets extremely difficult…almost impossible…to call.

Looking at the list of the celebrities that are left, I’m inclined to think that Melissa is the one in most danger when you aren’t looking at the scores and the margins. Just looking at the list, she seems (all other things being equal) like the one most likely to get the boot. But she’s at the top of the leader board. So, what would it take for her to actually leave??  ALL of the following would have to happen for Melissa to be eliminated:

-          Kirstie would have to get 45,500 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

-          Apolo would have to get 24,800 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

-          Gilles would have to get 22,800 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

-          Emmitt would have to get 18,600 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

-          Kelly would have to get 12,400 more votes per million votes cast, AND;

-          Shawn would have to get 4,200 more votes per million votes cast.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Believes He And Kirstie Alley Can Make The Finals On Dancing With The Stars

I often think Maksim Chmerkovskiy could write a book if he wanted. He writes with so much feeling and depth and this time isn’t any different as he pens his new blog for TV Guide. This time Maks writes about last weeks dances and how they went down. He also talks of Hurricane Sandy and how much the relief efforts mean to him. He can’t wait to help out more when he gets back to New York when the show is over. Also, Maks writes about his Dancing With The Stars partner Kirstie Alley. I loved this part below the most below. He talks of what Kirstie brings to the show and how she learns dancing in another way. You can tell he respects her a lot. He also thinks they can make it to the Finals and the reason behind it which I think is true and justified as what the other contestants bring to the table. I love her heart, inspiration, and how they are able to really entertain. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them make it to 4th …especially if they have the break through dance he mentions. What do you think?

A lot of people have been saying to us, “Well, she’s already done the show. She knows what to expect. How can she be so exhausted?” Yes, she’s already done it, but this season isn’t a direct replica of Season 12. None of us has any idea what the show is going to throw at us each day, let alone each week. When you don’t know what’s coming, everything’s a surprise and you get more anxious and stressed. It’s human nature. Suppose someone said, “Drop and give me pushups.” You’re going to keep going until they tell you to stop, but you don’t know when they’re going to tell you to stop. Psychologically, it’s a lot easier to be told to do 50 pushups and be done with it. Kirstie knows about the group dances, the trio, the marathon and everything, but she doesn’t have the schedule in front of her for the season. We get told each week what’s happening the next and it’s overwhelming. She’s a trooper. I want her to hold on and keep doing her thing. I think the “incidents,” as Len called them, during our fusion routine took a mental toll on her. She put a lot of effort into learning the dance and the one time she messed up her count was on show night, and it was a big blow to her. Her feeling backstage was, “What the hell is the point? I’m putting so much effort into rehearsing and I just messed it up.” I feel really bad and there’s nothing more I can ask of her. I want her to realize that there are only a couple weeks left. One thing I can promise is that she’s not giving up. She’s doing more than she should. She’s doing more than she can. The end result, whether we win or lose, will be a tribute to her resilience.

The thing that kills me the most is that I can’t help her learn to dance the way she wants to and the way you probably normally would in real life. If I were to tailor a program to her, it would be longer and more in-depth. She’s not the type of person who’s like, “Tell me the steps and I’ll do them.” She’s a cerebral person, an educated actress and woman. She knows her craft and she approaches everything the same way, including dancing. She needs time to learn. It’s not that she’s not capable of learning; it’s that she doesn’t have the time. There is no way I can tell her what she wants to learn in order for her to learn it well in four days. I’m trying to make her understand that she’s not learning just dancing. The show is basically: “Show me what you’re able to learn in four days.” If she gets it, I think it will help a lot.

I believe in Kirstie. I don’t care about the outcome. I don’t care what position we’re in right now. She’s a person that we need on the show. She brings a great contrast to the show, and I’m not talking about skill level. Everybody left is incredible. I know everyone is predicting Shawn, who continues to make our jaws drop, to win, but I don’t think it’s a slam dunk. Melissa is fantastic. I’m so happy for her and Tony winning the marathon. Apolo — wow! He is amazing and kills it every week. Kelly is just stupid good. Emmitt’s still got it and Gilles is arguably one of the best male celebrity dancers we’ve ever had. They’re all so good that sometimes you can’t even differentiate, but the show is not just about dancing, and as you saw in our package, Kirstie has realized that. She knows she belongs here. She brings something to the show — entertainment, inspiration — that cannot be scored. Even in professional dance competitions, it’s not always the winners or best dancers who are the most memorable. The paradox of taking your non-dancing friends to a dance competition is that they usually point out the dancers with the most personality who maybe finished in the quarterfinals or semifinals. If you don’t know about dancing, most people don’t care about technique or turns or extensions. They just want to be entertained. They’re looking at it from a different perspective. They don’t look at it like a dancer. I didn’t understand that for years. That’s why you had Maks speaking out about Bristol in Season 11. I know people reading this right now will be like, “He’s backpedaling.” I’m not. I am making my own discoveries about the show that I probably should’ve made a long time ago, but better late than never. Same thing with Kirstie — I believe we still have a big breakthrough in us. I believe she can make the final. Everybody is working hard, but I wouldn’t count us out.

We have two dances this week: The Viennese waltz and a trio with Tristan. I can’t wait to work with Tristan. Just having another person in the room would alleviate the pressure Kirstie. We’re good friends with Tristan and we hang out. I made a joke that we picked him because we just want him to be paid, but I was so happy that we got the first pick so we could grab him. We didn’t want to throw away the first draft pick, so to speak. Tristan’s very positive, very fun, lighthearted and he’s a very good dancer, so I’m really looking forward to the trio.

PureDWTS15 The “All-Star Forefathers”, “The Ballroom Shuffle”, Dance Fusion POLL (VOTE)

Some things remind us of why we are all here and the political ads on Dancing With The Stars this past week, the pic above titled as the “All-Star Forefathers” by Dancing With The Stars Official Facebook, and the poem below by PureDWTS reader Lois were several of them.

THE BALLROOM SHUFFLE

The ballroom was shuffled, the deck was stacked
The dances were crazy mixed up, were attacked

The theme was fusion, a blending of two dances
Throwing cards in the air, taking many chances

Dance steps had to intertwine, into the other flow
We marveled as all the dancers aced them just so

Kelly and Val mixed Fox Trot, Cha-Cha with ease
Melissa and Tony mixed Tango, Cha-Cha to please

Emmitt and Cheryl gave the Rumba, Samba a whirl
Gilles, Peta gave Argentine Tango, Samba a twirl

Karina and Apolo’s Cha-Cha, Paso Doble excited
Max, Kirstie’s Quickstep, Samba surely delighted

A mixed up trio arrived to the Ballroom Shuffle dance
Two fellows dressed alike, only one will get the chance

Mark, chosen to dance Paso Doble, Tango with Shawn
All Derek could do was sit in the audience looking on

The Ballroom Shuffle experiment dazzled and amazed
The dancing cards shuffled, new dancing trails blazed

A swing dance marathon was danced to Do Your Thing
Who would be crowned Swing Dance Queen and King

The couples were tagged, they had to leave the floor
First to go were Kirstie and Max, were shown the door

Second to go, Gilles and Peta ended their swing dance
Apolo and Karina were tagged third, lost their chance

Fourth to be tagged, Emmitt, Cheryl’s time was done
Number Five, Shawn and Mark, had to leave the fun

It was down to two couples, who would get the score
Kelly and Val’s valiant try, number six, could go no more

Tony and Melissa’s endurance made them last to go
Winning the crown of the ballroom Swing Dance Show

Next week trios will dance together, not two but three
Kirstie and Max chose Tristan, what dance will we see

Kelly and Val chose Louis, three glide across the floor
Emmitt and Cheryl chose Kym, could not ask for more

Apolo and Karina chose Sasha from the dancing troupe
Melissa and Tony chose Henry, oh wow, what a group

Gilles and Peta chose Chelsie to help their dancing cause
Shawn and Derek chose Mark, to the ballroom’s applause

The deck was stacked, Ballroom Shuffle blazed the trail
Next Monday night the All-Stars will return without fail!

THE BALLROOM SHUFFLE PROVED A ROUSING SUCCESS!
NEXT WEEK THREE WILL DANCE, WE EXPECT NOTHING LESS!

Too fun, Lois! THANKS so much!!! And now between you, comments in other posts, and a tweet from reader Jimmboe Tuesday night has us wondering what your overall thoughts were on the “Dance Fusion”? Would you all like to see the Dance Fusion make a reappearance in the future on Dancing With The Stars? Lets get some numbers. Take our new Poll below and let us know what you think in comments too if interested….

I’m voting “No”. The Dance Fusion was ok for something different, but, I really like just watching the couples just dancing to one style of dance. I wouldn’t want to see the Dance Fusion become a seasonal thing.

DWTS 15, Week 8: And the Trios Are…

The couples got to pick the 3rd members of their trio dances last night after the show, and they could chose between eliminated pros from this season, or any of the members of the troupe – apparently the “2nd celeb” idea got scrapped (thank you, 8 lb, 10 oz baby Jesus).  The couple with the lowest cumulative score got to pick first.  So without further adieu, here are your trios for week 8:

Kirstie & Maks + Tristan MacManus

Kelly & Val + Louis Van Amstel

Emmitt & Cheryl + Kym Johnson

Apolo & Karina + Sasha Farber

Melissa & Tony + Henry Byalikov

Gilles & Peta + Chelsie Hightower

Shawn & Derek + Mark Ballas

We don’t know everyone’s dance yet, but I can tell you at least one of the trios is a jive, and at least one is a salsa.  Personally, I think some of these choices were a little puzzling…not sure I would have picked the same people, myself.  What do you guys think? Discuss :-D

DWTS 15, Week 7 – Power Rankings

Once again, I’m left with a week where these rankings are kind of a moot point, since no one is going home – so basically, take these as who I think would go home if there was actually an elimination tomorrow night.  But keep in mind that next week is a double elim, so those who don’t do so hot this week are going to have to really step their game up even more next week, because their chances of going home are even greater – and once again, the multitude of points from 4 different dances (the fusion & marathon dances this week, and a regular ballroom dance and Latin trio dance next week) is going to make the margins uber-close…even moreso than they were last week.  We’re going to have another fanbase battle royale on our hands…hope you guys have created more accounts to vote with!

Well, looks like the judges were back to hitting the wacky tobacky this week – although Carrie Ann seemed at least a bit more sober than those other two goobers.  Definite over and under-scoring going on, and I have to wonder if there are certain celebs that need a bit of protection…

1.) Shawn & Mark (Derek) -  For all the hoopla surrounding “Will Derek dance or not?”, I actually thought things turned out pretty damn good for Shawn this week – she FINALLY got that perfect 30, and I think Derek’s choreo for she & Mark was the epitome of what the judges were looking for in terms of a “fusion dance” (even if they didn’t specifically spell it out) - I literally could not count how many times they switched from tango to paso, paso to tango, and back again.  Derek delivered on his promise – he created a fusion where the two component dances melted together effortlessly, and you couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began.  And Shawn & Mark handled it beautifully – was nice to see shades of the unflappable Team Shark, but with the upgrade of Shawn’s maturity and some of Derek’s choreography.  As for the marathon dance – just as I expected, Shawn had the endurance of a Kenyan, and didn’t even seem to be getting winded, and I thought she and Mark had some great, flashy choreo that SHOULD have kept them around longer.  But as someone mentioned on Twitter (Will, maybe?), I think Mark may have gotten them tapped out when he went for the breakdancing move that left them separated for so long and Shawn…just kinda standing there.  Had he not done that move, I think they probably would have gone on to win the marathon, because they were showing no signs of fatigue.  C’est la vie.  I’m just happy that Shawn didn’t get low-balled by Len for once, and they’ve got a decent lead heading into week 8, for Derek’s return.

2.) Emmitt & Cheryl – These two are one big question mark for me.  I feel like Emmitt isn’t really doing enough to stand out amongst some of the other couples, but I also can’t shake the feeling that the judges just love him, and that he’s getting a LOT of votes.  The guy is charming, don’t get me wrong – and he’s not a bad dancer.  But I feel like he’s kinda plateaued, and the level of difficulty that he’s dancing at isn’t up-to-snuff with what the other couples are doing at this point.  I think their fusion dance illustrated this pretty well – it was better than I expected, and definitely cute and very “typical Emmitt”.  And therein lies the problem: I feel like I was seeing the exact same steps and overall mood that I’ve been seeing in the bulk of his dances this season.  There was no “upping the ante” in terms of difficulty, and we didn’t really see anything new from he & Cheryl in terms of character or mood of the dance.  I felt like I was watching a repeat of his samba a few weeks ago.  Was it a good effort, given their fusion and the song they got? Yes.  Did Emmitt dance it well? Sure.  But nothing really jumped out at me that said “This guy is a contender for the finale.” In the marathon dance, I thought they were cute, and doing just enough lifting and moving just slow enough that they didn’t exert themselves – I don’t feel like they were giving it 100%, though, and probably gone a bit harder and been a bit flashier and still been ok.  If there were an elim tomorrow, I’m fairly confident they’ll be safe.  But I think they’ll probably end up doing the jive as their trio dance next week, and I’m curious to see how Emmitt fares doing a fast dance where he has to remain in sync with not only Cheryl, but another person as well…I think his weaknesses could be on display.

3.) Kelly & Val – These two are also a bit of an enigma for me, since I can’t really tell whether the judges are going easy on her to keep her around, or don’t really care if she stays or goes…and the soap fanbase still remains untested, considering that EVERYONE beat Sabrina last week.  I generally like their fusion dance – was very cute and had appropriate amounts of both cha-cha and foxtrot in it, and I think Kelly’s cha-cha sections were actually much sharper and cleaner than Melissa’s.  But I wish Val would quit incorporating all of these spin sequences into Kelly’s routine – she’s good for the first 2 or 3, then I think she gets dizzy and tends to get off-balance…and thus, off-time.  I did see a few stutters after she finished the spins in this one.  He either needs to cut back on the spins, or teach her how to PROPERLY spot her turns.  Then we have the marathon…*sigh*.  I will say this: they did have some very fun, eye-catching tricks.  But I felt like that’s all they had – tricks.  Not many swing steps in between, and by the end, Kelly seemed to be getting pretty winded, and I saw quite a bit of them standing in place while Kelly caught her breath.  I want to see endurance in the marathon – not short bursts of energy with a lot of panting in between (which is probably how Gilles is in the boudoir – ZING! 8-O ).  If the elimination were this week, I would think they’d have enough of a bubble to stay safe - but I wonder if the tides will turn next week, as I think they’ll end up with the jive as their trio dance as well.  Kelly’s endurance sure didn’t impress me this week…and she’s gonna need even more next week.

4.) Melissa & Tony - She may be at the top of the leaderboard this week, but it’s exactly that fact that makes me worry that the judges feel the need to protect her – could she have been the other half of the unknown bottom 2 with Sabrina last week? I’m really starting to wonder.  I liked their fusion dance, but I didn’t love it – I thought the tango part was far better than the cha-cha part, and the cha-cha part embodied what seems to be my biggest complaint about Melissa: that she still dances a bit too softly.  She’s had ballroom dances the past few weeks, and she seems to hit a bit harder in those (likely because she has Tony leading her), but not that I’ve seen her do Latin again, I’m reminded that she still tends to move kind of “pretty” and delicately, and she never really got a lot of punch in her cha-cha.  I do think the tango section was an improvement over her tango two weeks ago, though.  I think they were really overscored, though – I don’t think I saw enough impact from Melissa (or enough hard-hitting choreography from Tony) to really justify that 29, when I thought Emmitt, Apolo, and Kelly all performed better and got higher scores.  I like Melissa, I really do – and I do think she deserves to be in the finale.  But I can’t overlook some of the lingering problems she seems to have with her dancing, and I think the judges were very, very kind to her this week.  In the marathon dance, I think she got lucky that Mark kinda whiffed it for he & Shawn with that breakdance move, and that Kelly was rapidly running out of steam…because I’m not sure that she & Tony would have won the marathon dance otherwise.  I do think they had a good strategy, though – they paced themselves well and stuck with a lot of basics that were sure to please Len.  I don’t necessarily think they had the best tricks or the highest energy level, but in the end, endurance won out over flashiness, and I am glad they won…like I said, I have nothing against Melissa, or any of the other remaining Team CMM members :-) I’m curious to see what she gets as her trio dance next week – she’s still got rumba and paso left, and since I can’t really picture a rumba trio (kinky…), I’m guessing she’s got paso…which could be problematic, considering it’s the man’s dance.  Could this week’s high scores been an attempt to shield her from a possible fall next week?

5.) Apolo & Karina – I’m seriously going to have to run the numbers for whether certain running order positions get screwed in scores (ugh…my brain hurts just thinking about it), because I can only imagine the questions I’m going to get from Apolo fans wanting to know why he got low-balled for what I thought was one of the better dances of the night.  I don’t have a good answer for you, kids, because I haven’t run the numbers to determine whether going first means that you’re going to get low-balled in the scores.  I’ll admit, their fusion dance felt a bit frantic at times, and I saw a few minor bobbles, but overall, I really thought it was intense and entertaining – and that Apolo was really giving it 110%.  I’d definitely say it had a higher difficulty level than everyone except Shawn tonight – Karina didn’t hold back on the choreo, so I do have to give her credit there.  Seeing Apolo doff his shirt was an added bonus ;-) I have to wonder if wearing JR & Karina’s infamous “newsies” jive costumes was a bit of bad juju for Apolo & Karina in the marathon dance – because like the jive she & JR did a year ago, the judges didn’t seem too fond of Karina & Apolo’s moves in the marathon.  :-( Oh well.  I’m just glad they outlasted Gilles ;-) I would be slightly worried for them this week, but I think they have the potential to come back in a major way next week, considering they have another ballroom dance to do (and Apolo seems to thrive with those), and they’re probably going to end up doing a jive trio as well (it will be the week of a million jive trios!), and I think Karina has the potential to rock the choreography for it.  I’m not losing hope yet ;-)

6.) Gilles & Peta – In quite possibly the most crack-addled critiquing and scoring of the night, the judges lavished all kinds of praise over this nonsensical “fusion” dance - first of all, WHERE THE HELL WAS THE SAMBA???? I think I saw a few samba runs and maybe a roll or two at the beginning, and then these two knuckleheads spent the rest of the dance doing Argentine tango…and crappy Argentine tango, at that.  These two seemed to be moving in slow motion, compared to the music – wayyyy too much standing in place and relying on the impact of slow movement.  And sorry, but this was all on Peta – I just don’t think she’s a good Argentine tango choreographer, and knowing Gilles, he was probably so fixated on how much he wanted to do the Argentine tango (and how much he DIDN’T want to do the samba) that he convinced Peta to minimize the amount of samba and maximize the amount of time he could spend reliving his Argentine tango glory days of 3 1/2 years ago.  I would almost put money on it that it went down that way – and it’s for reasons such as those that I’m really starting to get flustered with Peta.  As I’ve said for awhile – I get the feeling that Gilles is driving the bus, and Peta’s just letting him, while periodically shaking her head in shame at his reckless driving.  She needs to put her foot down – both choreographically, and in terms of Gilles’ behavior.  Glad they got a bit of a wake-up call in the swing marathon, because I didn’t really see them doing a whole lot.  I’m wondering how he’s going to fare next week, because he’ll probably end up with paso doble as his trio dance – and while it is the man’s dance, he’s going to run the risk of getting upstaged if they pick another guy to be in their trio, and I’m not sure he could handle leading two ladies.  It shall be interesting to see…it shall also be interesting to see if he’s actually getting a ton of votes or not.  I’m not entirely convinced that he’ll even make it past next week…

7.) Kirstie & Maks – I really hate to harp on these two TOO much, because I do think Kirstie did a wonderful thing by helping to arrange the convoy to NYC and they probably lost a good deal of practice time as a result – but I do think they really stumbled this week in the fusion dance.  The first half was actually quite good – I actually liked this quickstep better than the one they did a few weeks ago.  But the minute it came time to transition into samba…it all kinda fell apart :-( She lost time, there wasn’t any bounce…and I think she and Maks stopped having fun as soon as the samba kicked in.  And really, that’s when I really notice Kirstie & Maks’ shortcomings as a couple – when they stop having fun.  It’s their biggest asset, and once they lose it…I’m afraid there’s not much else to keep me interested.  But I do credit Kirstie for acknowledging that she just didn’t do well, rather than trying to make excuses for why her dancing wasn’t up to snuff (which is a move out of the Gilles playbook, by the way).  No big suprises in the marathon – they were the first out, and probably should have been.  Unfortunately, I think the end may be nigh for Team KStick – I think they’re probably going to end up with paso doble as their trio dance, and I don’t really see Kirstie knocking it out of the park…especially if Gilles and Melissa are doing it, too.  But who knows…stranger things have happened.  The person at the top of the leaderboard went home last week.

So what did you guys think of fusion night? If someone were to get eliminated tomorrow…who do you think it will be? And how do you think things will shake out next week?

DWTS 15, Week 6 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Heidi: We’re a bit short on awards this week. I mean, we could go on and on about Taylor Swift and Brooke, but that gets a bit redundant after a while. :-)

Biggest Disconnect Between Dancers & Music: The troupe’s opening performance to Little Big Town

Courtney: So what do you get when you take three Aussies, a Russian mail order bride, a Dane, and a Brit, dress them up in cowpoke gear, and make them dance to a song about a type of boat pretty exclusive to the States? A rather confused performance.  :-P I can only imagine what kind of questions got tossed around backstage after this wonder…perhaps Oksana asking “What is pontoon? Is like U-boat?”

Heidi: I think their mojo was off. Mail Order Bride’s hair was all crimped and curled and very unlethal. It’s like Sampson after a haircut. I think I’ve explained this before. :-)

The Award for Best, Unintentionally Filthy Dialogue: Shawn Johnson, Melissa Rycroft and Derek Hough for their “They’re cute” and “They’re Big” Discussion in the Behind-the-Scenes Video Tape

Heidi: That whole conversation was cracking me up. I have this vision of the producers seeing that footage and rolling on the floor laughing, while planning how they can air something that sounds dirty but isn’t. I’ve been of the opinion that Derek was crushing on Melissa back in her original season because of how he talked to her. And here he does a typical guy thing and Melissa? Hilarious. But the best bit was Shawn telling Melissa authoritatively that “they’re big” then reassuring Derek that they’re big. It’s okay, Derek, Melisssa called them cute. Not what you were going for, I know.  Um….what was the “they” that they were talking about again?? ;-)

Courtney: Somehow I think Melissa has outgrown the whole “I must appeal to the male ego” phase that 20-something women go through, before figuring out that men need to get their balls busted every now & then in order to keep them in check :-P Shawn? I think she just wants to protect everyone.  It’s actually kinda cute…both of them.  :-P Read more..

DWTS Season 15 Las Vegas Odds Going Into Week 7: What Do You Think?

Our apologies for being a little late with the Las Vegas Odds! For some reason, all the betting sites have been later than the norm posting them this week. Is this a sign the odds makers are overly undecided? 8O I don’t know. None the less, below are Sports Bovada’s odds leading up to Week 7 of Dancing With The Stars. Note how the placements are the same, but, the numbers are tighter in some cases and/or the same or higher in others.

Shawn Johnson 10/11
Emmitt Smith 13/4
Gilles Marini 7/2
Apolo Anton Ono 9/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 40/1
Kirstie Alley 66/1

Last week’s Las Vegas Odds going into Week 5 to compare:

Shawn Johnson 1/1
Emmitt Smith 7/2
Gilles Marini 9/2
Apolo Anton Ono 6/1
Kelly Monaco 10/1
Melissa Rycroft 33/1
Sabrina Bryan 50/1
Kirstie Alley 75/1

In my opinion, Apolo should be in second place (or even first?) and Emmitt in third. I don’t think Gilles is going to make the top three like many think. I mean…is his fan base really that big? My Dad (an avid fan to the show for about 4 or 5 years now) keeps asking me who Gilles, Melissa, and Kelly are and that to me is a little telling being he kept asking me who Sabrina was too and the next thing we know and regardless of scores and ability to dance, Sabrina is a goner. I also still think it’s a mistake to underestimate Kirstie in this competition. I wouldn’t be surprised to see her make it to atleast 4th place….that is, if she can still make some strong showings on the dance floor as she has the last couple of weeks.

Lets get Miss Heidi and Court’s thoughts on the new odds and be sure to let us know what you think too in comments….

Heidi: I just don’t get the Emmitt thing. I mean, he’s faded into the woodwork on this this show.  Are they basing their odds on how well football players have done in the past?? I agree with Vogue – I really think Apolo should be up at the top with Shawn. Of course, it’s my bias talking when I say I really want Gilles to be the next “shocking” elimination. :-) As for Shawn – she’s certainly capable of winning it, but I think it depends on if Len keeps it up with his games.  He did it with Nicole and it was very obvious as well – but I don’t think that Shawn can afford that sort of game playing in an all star season AND when they throw so many dances into one elimination, reducing the spread significantly.  This week is week 7. If history holds true, it’s week 8 when Len finally gives it up. I think he should give it up a bit earlier than normal, but the urge to make it a horse race is overwhelming.  Which brings us to Kirstie. Clearly the odds makers aren’t going on a week to week scoring basis because Kirstie is still in the bottom and Kelly is up there in 5th place. I don’t know – I think that (unfortunately)  the odds dudes have the bottom three correct, but I ‘m not sure that’s the order they should be in. I guess we’ll see.

Courtney: The Emmitt thing blows my mind – I get it, the guy is charming, but he’s also just been a relatively ho-hum dancer this season, who’s been ending up at the middle-to-lower end of the scoreboard pretty consistently.  He hasn’t done anything that has shown me that he’s suddenly a contender for the MBT.  And while the NFL fanbase is considerable, I don’t see it overtaking the Olympian fanbase.  And I’m not sure why Apolo’s odds dropped and Gilles’ rose, in a week where Apolo got a perfect score (and lavish praise from the judges) and Gilles performed a bizarre, androgynous dance that left the judges kind of puzzled.  Unless the oddsmakers are playing into the same fallacy that so many viewers seem to be playing into: that “in jeopardy” and “in the bottom 2″ mean the same thing.  Couldn’t be further from the truth – for all we know, Apolo could have been the highest vote-getter last week, but hey, somebody’s got to be in jeopardy.  As for those hanging out at the bottom – I don’t think Kirstie’s going to get to the finale, or even the semifinals.  Sorry kids – but I don’t see her faring well in fusion dance, and I’m anticipating she’ll be first out in the marathon dance; as for next week - she’s likely going to end up with one of the waltzes (if it’s Viennese, she’s a goner, methinks) and the trio dance…and I’m not sure those dances really favor her, either.  Plus she’s the only contestant left that we know for sure has been in the bottom 2.  I think she’s probably going to be part of the week 8 double elim – and it’s going to be a toss-up on who joins her there.  Maybe Melissa, maybe Kelly, hopefully Gilles.  Lord knows how anyone else is faring in the votes.

DWTS Kirstie Alley On A “Convoy” Mission To Help Hurricane Victims, Interviews, And More

As some of you have commented and have noticed yesterday at twitter, Dancing With The Stars contender Kirstie Alley, went full out trying to get as many items as she could to help those who are suffering from the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the east coast. She’s asked that people bring whatever they can from blankets, socks, underwear, snack foods, canned goods, baby food, teddy bears, and more down to her Organic Liaison store at 1864 N Vermont in Los Feliz, California 90027. The mission has been such a success that she tweeted the first semi load of supplies left Friday and will reach New Jersey today (Saturday) sometime. A second truck is planned to reach Staten Island, New York on Wednesday! John and Kelly Travolta along with Dancing With The Stars partner Maks Chmerkovskiy took part in the relief mission as well according to this tweet by Kirstie….

Trucks preparing to roll! John & Kelly Travolta matching me for Johns home state New Jersey!! @ Found 150 sweaters & blankets !!!

Kirstie Alley

Tony Dovolani helped too as you can see in the picture above provided above by @DDubsDame at twitter. As Kirstie tweeted, “people are amazing!!!!! never under estimate what just a few people can achieve!!! it’s awesome” and isn’t that the truth?!!

In other things Kirstie Alley, she was interviewed on 20/20. It was scheduled to air last night on ABC. However, due to a hurricane special, I’m not sure they featured her interview? Can anyone confirm? You can read for a little of what took place with the interview at On The Red Carpet. She promotes her new book, “The Art Of Men”. Another topic Kirstie talked about was how John Travolta was the “love of her life”. Here she is in a teaser at E News….

Also, stay tuned as Kirstie is scheduled to be on the Jimmy Kimmell show this upcoming Thursday night!!

ETA1: According to fan @cherylldob at twitter, the 20/20 interview with Kirstie will air next Friday, November 9th. Thanks Cheryl!! ;)

ETA2: Below is a new interview with Maks that took place last week with On The Red Carpet. He talks of how Dancing With The Stars has stepped up their game this season. He got a note from TPTB for how well he and Kirstie are doing and putting smiles on faces. He loved their Gangnam style dance too. More below. There is more to this interview in more video segments HERE. Note too how Maks will be making a “Latin dancer” movie in MAY! Read more..
