DWTS, Season 11, Week 7 – Media Pump Ups Before The Show

Hi All!! Are you ready for tonight like I am? I’m still at a loss how this team competition will take place this week but I’m excited to see what they are planning. 🙂 Here are some takes from a cool interview with Kristi Yamaguchi from TV Guide giving us some insight for what is to come for her team. Be sure to read more at the link.

TVGuide.com: How’d you pick your team? I’m assuming you chose Mark.
Yamaguchi: Yes! We alternated with picks. Apolo won the coin toss, so he picked first and he picked Jennifer [Grey]. Then I knew I wanted Mark and Bristol [Palin], so I picked them. Apolo then picked Brandy and Maks [Chmerkovskiy]. I thought Rick [Fox] and Cheryl [Burke] had been doing great all season long, so they were my next pick. And then Apolo picked Kurt [Warner], and I got Kyle [Massey]. I love Kyle. He’s such a great performer and I think that’s going to bring a lot to the table, especially in the group dance.

TVGuide.com: What does your job as team captain entail?Yamaguchi: well, no choreography! I’m trying to inspire and motivate them, like “This is what Mark and I was thinking during our dance and that’s what inspired us, so hopefully you can channel that as well and go for it.” And hopefully just bringing out the best of what each other them has.

TVGuide.com: What advice have you given them?
Yamaguchi: Of course for Bristol, it’s, “Hey, you’ve got it! Be confident!” I want to see her break out of her shell and come out and just dance and enjoy it. She needs to let go, which is something I had to learn on the show, so I can identify with that. Kyle — I just want him to have fun and bring the house down. Rick — the cha-cha is a flirty and sexy dance, and I think he can bring all those elements. We’ve got a great song. It’s high-energy and it’s got attitude, and that’s what I want from them.

TVGuide.com: Do you think the cha-cha is a good choice?
Yamaguchi: Definitely! I loved it when I did it! It was probably one of my favorite dances. It’s a fun dance and it’s all about performance, so I think it’s perfect for a group dance. I think our goal is just selling it. Technique will be there. Most of them have done the cha-cha. Kyle and Bristol have and they were great. We want to get the fan votes. We’re the underdogs. We’ve been calling ourselves the underdog team, so we want to do get out there, bring some attitude, and do something entertaining and fun.

TVGuide.com: What do you think of the season so far?
Yamaguchi: Season’s been good. There have been some ups and downs, so it’ll be interesting to see who’s going to bring it each week. It’s still kind of up in the air with who the finalists will be. I don’t know if I was shocked, but surprised that Audrina [Patridge] left. She was in second place in the scores. It’s tough. There are so many factors that go into it that it’s hard to predict.

As many of you have noticed, Jamie Lee Curtis has been a big fan to the show this year and giving her friend, Jennifer Grey, much support in the audience. Here is what she told Access Hollywood in a new interview. Note for what she says on the Judges comments last week and her feelings.

Although she may dislike wearing polyester costumes, the “You Again” star certainly enjoys watching them waltz across the dance floor – the actress has become a staple at the “Dancing with the Stars” stage.

“I’m so into [‘Dancing with the Stars’],” Jamie Lee raved. “It’s crazy town! I’m completely into it. I’m completely into it!”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Jamie Lee got hooked on the ABC dancing competition while showing support for her friend, actress and Season 11 “Dancing” contender, Jennifer Grey.

“The idea of a couple of my friends sitting there with me every week would make me feel a lot better,” Jamie Lee told Access. “I’m happy to be able to be [Jennifer’s] support.”

Jennifer, 50, has hovered near the top of the leaderboard since the competition began in September, but received a rather harsh critique from the show’s judges on Monday following her shaky Paso Doble performance with professional partner Derek Hough.

“I felt the [judges’] comments were a little pointed, if you will,” Jamie Lee told Access. “I joined the chorus of booing [in the audience], but I also understand that that’s a little bit the nature of the beast.

“Jennifer weathered [the criticism] beautifully and she is going to be fantastic,” she added. “She is representing women over 50 and killing it and I’m just so proud of her. Thrilled for her!”

Derek and Jennifer on Extra – I love any woman who forces Derek to be photographed shirtless. 🙂

Entertainment Tonight – about the performance show and a nice story about Brandy. The odds maker called Audrina correctly.

Entertainment Tonight – Anna and Kurt, and Rick and Cheryl

The broadcast version of Maks’ Carrie Ann smackdown from Access Hollywood

Access Hollywood from Monday – Tony, Audrina, Rick, Bristol and Mark. They ask Bristol about Tina Fey’s hilarious Sarah Palin impersonation.

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

DWTS 11 – Hallows Eve And One More Day Until Show Time Media!

Just a few things to share with you on the “calm before the storm”. lol

First up, and special thanks to fan Moeynj, we have a new blog from Cheryl writing about last weeks dances and what’s to come this week. Here is a snippet from it from MSN Reality TV.

I was so proud of Rick this week. Our tango was powerful and intense. I also felt that the passion that the judges keep saying is lacking in Rick was really there. You could really feel it in the audience.

The dance marathon was fun to do. We all got the chance to be a little crazier in how we presented on the dance floor, and we also got to do lifts.

As far as the elimination this week, I’ve learned through all of my seasons on the show to expect the unexpected. It was sad to see Audrina leave. She really had so much more to show the audience with her dancing. You have to bring your all every week and let the audience decide your fate. I really don’t think Audrina deserved to go home at all.

Brandy and Max were in the number one spot again this week. They are doing really well. Brandy is improving each week, and that is what this competition is all about.

Next week Rick and I have the quickstep. For the 200th episode we’re all dancing to songs that were already used on the show, and that produced some of the most memorable moments over the last 10 seasons. We’re going to be judged by the contestant who originally danced to that song. It’s a little daunting, but I think Rick knows how to handle all that additional pressure. He has so many NBC Championships that if there’s one thing he knows–it’s pressure. We also have a team dance Cha Cha that we’ll be doing. We’re on Team Yamaguchi.

Mark also wrote more in his journal yesterday on USA Today. Here is a sneak peak into he and Bristol’s dance and the team dance. Be sure to see more at the link.

This week we have the Viennese Waltz! I had a suspicion that the VW would be our dance step this week.

After the group rehearsal Tuesday night, we spent six hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday getting the routine down. And because Bristol is doing well with it, I feel confident we’ll get the intricacies nailed down this weekend. All she needs is some polish on her toe-pointing, arm movements and head position, which is exactly where she was last week. If you pay attention to her feet and steps, she really is fantastic in that area and in fact, I’m willing to say her footwork is the best in the competition. Take that, competitors!

Speaking of group rehearsal, let’s just say that it’s good to see my old pal Kristi (Yamaguchi). I may or may not be on her team for the group routine, so you’ll have to tune in to see. Group routines typically are not difficult; they’re just quite time consuming. They are such a hurdle because it takes time away from our regular dance routine, which really puts a lot of pressure on Bris to get it all down and remember. We had the first high-intensive group rehearsal Tuesday night, as you know, and our next on is on Saturday.

Here is a little interview Maks gave to E On-Line on this last week’s dances. Check out what he says on his leather pants. lol

First of all, what was up with those leather pants? Were they hard to dance in?It was the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been in my entire life I think, because there’s no breathing. It’s obviously pleather and it was not a pleasant experience. Lets just say that my thighs and above are a little bigger than your average rocker’s so I guess the tight leather pants are just not for me. It’s safe to assume it’s not going to happen again.

Brandy was very emotional this week. Is she going to have a nervous breakdown by the end of the season? She’s not a weak person. She’s a very strong person and she just expresses certain things her own way. It’s a hard show and a lot goes into it, and girls—I guess that’s what they do. Girls cry. It pains me to see her cry, and I try to be supportive, but it’s very, very difficult when I’m the only one trying to make her do stuff.

I saw Melanie Griffith in the audience. Have you met her or know anything about her being on the show?Jamie Lee Curtis a big fan of the show and she’s been coming every week. Yesterday, she calls me over and says, “Hey, I have somebody for you to meet.” I’m not going to lie, I almost crapped myself and had a heart attack at the same time. To introduce me to Melanie Griffith, I know exactly who she is. We had Martha Stewart there yesterday. She wants to be on the show. She’s been talking to Erin [Andrews]. It just feels like everybody wants to be on the show. (FYI: Stewart told E!’s own Ryan Seacrest on his radio show this morning she would need a year to prepare for DWTS)

How tired were you and Brandy doing the rock marathon right after doing your tango?I’m not going to lie to you, [it] cost me probably a liver and a kidney and a lung because this thing was just never ending. They did not make it simple, did they? I’m going to start a petition for next season to do a rumba marathon. Jesus! It was exhausting. We were tired. Where she pulled out the energy to finish, I don’t know.

Speaking of….here is a clip of Maks on “Celebrity Ghost Stories” last night. I’ve been watching You Tube closely and haven’t seen anyone post the full story yet. If anyone sees it posted, be sure to let us know. For those that missed it, it will air again today on the Bio Channel at 1:00pm ET. They will also have it eventually available to watch at Biography.com.

Ok, that wraps this up for now. Have a fun and safe halloween. I leave you with this Halloween vision. Kurt Warner posted this picture on his twitter of he and his wife all dressed up for the occasion. Special thanks to Heidi sending me this. We hope more of the dancers and celebrities will post more pics of themselves in their costumes. We’ll see. 😉

DWTS Season 11, Week 6 – Odds & Ends Media Part 1

So much to report today! Good thing Heidi has collaborated with me on this one again!! 🙂

First up, more news on next week’s shows. According to Playbill, the 200th show, along with Rod Stewart and Taylor Swift, will include a broadway performance from the cast of “Mary Poppins”.

The 200th episode of “Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show,” which airs Nov. 2 at 8 PM ET on ABC, will feature the cast of Mary Poppins. Led by Caroline Sheen as Mary and Nicolas Dromard as Bert, the company will perform “Step in Time.” The performance will mark the second time “Dancing with the Stars” has hosted a Disney on Broadway musical. Last year, the cast of The Lion King performed “Circle of Life.”

Also, for you Damian Whitewood and Peta Murgatroyd fans like myself, stay tuned. She’s confirmed to me at facebook that the two will be dancing in the Results show again this week. They’ve been tweeting about it too. *dies* I love these two!! 🙂

There is also more news on Maks’ and Brandy’s special Halloween appearance on The Ellen Show today from The Examiner. Apparently, he’s going to be escorting Brandy as Prince Charming. Brandy will be dressed as Minnie Mouse. Be sure to tune in today on ABC. It’s an Ellen show you won’t want to miss.

Speaking of Maks and Brandy, more pics have been released of their “OK” shoot and the full interview has been released. Here is one of the pictures and a snippet from the article. Be sure to see and read more at the link. 9 photos in total.

What’s the most important thing being on Dancing With the Stars has taught you?Brandy: Staying in the moment. Dance is all about trusting the moment and letting the dance flow through you, instead of over analyzing.

It’s a lot of exercise. How are you feeling?Brandy: Great, very energized. I’m starting to develop some calf muscles and we all want those Britney Spears legs, so if I keep dancing and keep doing my lunges, I’ll have some killer legs. And my midsection is looking a little muscular. Not a six-pack yet but watch out, Janet Jackson!

What surprised you about doing DWTS?Brandy: The level of fear that comes with the show is unexpected. You are so
nervous on Mondays. There’s judgment, constructive criticism and being compared to other people. I’m really proud that I’m able to get out there every Monday.
Maks: I think she retains choreography quick, but she still gets nervous on Mondays and it can jeopardize our performance. But I feel like now, week by week, she gets more and more comfortable.

Are you enjoying the costumes?Brandy: Oh, when I wear the costumes I feel like a completely different
person. With the hair and the makeup — I feel like a real-life Barbie doll. My favorite so far was the one for the samba. It was really tight at the top and flowy at the bottom. I felt really sexy in it and I don’t feel sexy a lot in my real life!

In other fun interviews out there, Lacey talks to TooFab. Here is a take from that interview.

On her chances of winning with partner Kyle Massey …“You never have any idea with this show. Obviously, we ‘d love to be at the end, but at the same time we’re happy we’ve made it this far!”

On Audrina’s elimination …“She’s so lovable and so sweet and was doing amazing on the show. I was definitely shocked to see her go. At this point in the game though, we’re shocked no matter what. We’re like a family, we never want to see anybody go. She’ll be really missed.”

On why Bristol Palin’s lasted so long, despite low scores …“She’s more of the underdog and she knows she’s the underdog. She’s working her butt off, she’s sweet and such a great girl, she’s having a blast.”

On dancing with Kyle …“He’s like a little brother. He’s super fun at all of our rehearsals. And I totally understand how my mom felt raising me and my brother.”

On what we haven’t seen on the show …“Kyle has a basketball he named Jacko Wilson. It can’t leave his sight during rehearsals. He’ll go talk to it for 5 minutes. We play basketball, kickball with Jacko. It’s really fun.”

On their toughest competition …“At this point, it’s hard to say. We’re all really consistent at this point, but there are ones that will definitely make it to the finale, like Jennifer [Grey].”

And YOU GO William Shatner on Jimmy Kimmel!! Check out who he thinks is “America’s Greatest Dancer” and even compares him to Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly in one. I have to say he’s pinned it about Derek. What do you think? He loves Dancing With The Stars. See why here.

More coming up Guys. So, stay tuned!! 😉

DWTS 11, Week 6 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

Heidi is feeling rather monosyllabic this evening. And since Heidi is the one writing this sentence, she is also strangely speaking in 3rd person. Probably because Heidi has had nothing to drink.

And Courtney is feeling rather blah as well – this week’s awards were a stuggle for both of us after such a dismal week.  Let’s hope next week is better…with all of this 200th episode nonsense, there are bound to be bloopers galore 😉

Biggest Harbinger of Doom that “Rock Week” Was Going to Be a Failure: The removal of the black dance floor 30 minutes before showtime; (dis)honorable mention for wardrobe ix-naying Brooke’s leather dress

Courtney: Ok, so technically this didn’t happen during the show, but when Twitter was abuzz with these two nuggets of information mere minutes before showtime, I had to wonder: “Is this night going to be a total disaster?” The answer: yep.  I knew the dance floor must have either been a hazard to the dancers (perhaps too slick, as indicated by Lacey’s slip during the dress rehearsal, which she vehemently scolded Kyle for…poor kid!) or was messing with the lighting, since it was so shiny, but whatever it was…they must’ve been pretty damn desperate for options if they decided it had to go A HALF HOUR BEFORE THE SHOW STARTED.  I have to wonder if it maybe affected some of the routines negatively, since the couples had done the rehearsal on that floor and were likely used to it – if it was indeed too slick, maybe Derek & Jennifer made a point of really roughing up their shoes in order to get some traction, and then when they switched back to the regular floor, the extra grip made them stiff & wobbly.  Maybe Maks had the same problem, which is why he wobbled a bit when he dipped Brandy during their tango.  Who knows.  And then Brooke tweeted that her dress had been vetoed by the “Boob Patrol” – had to wonder just how treacherous this dress was, if they decided to scrap it and go with something else with so little time left to spare.  Personally I think  we’re about due for another good wardrobe malfunction…I’d love to see the censors blow a gasket if Brooke had a bit of a nip slip 😛

Heidi: Did you notice during the opening blather when all the couples were standing on the floor that Derek was looking down at the floor and scuffing it with his foot?? Harbinger of doom indeed. Not just the difference in the floor between dress rehearsal and the show, but the frenzy that pulling it up 30 minutes before showtime that likely got passed to everyone involved. So yeah, this all occurred to me too. And the first tendrils of…concern?…were born. 🙂

The Anna Trebunskaya “Lost in Translation” Word O’ the Week: “Curtains” instead of “Cardinals”

Courtney: Oh, that adorable, unassuming, unintentionally funny little redheaded Russian of ours 🙂 Last week she was comparing Walter Payton to the Russian space dogs Belka & Strelka (who, I have learned through wikipedia, were the first Earth-born creatures to go into space and return alive – if you’re a dork like me and wanna hear the full, interesting story, go here.) This week she was trying to illustrate her methods of coaxing aggression out of Kurt for their paso: reminding him that his team lost in the Superbowl.  However, what should have been “cardinals” came out sounding more like “curtains”.  Not sure if the word was just escaping her, or she was having trouble saying “Kurt” and “cardinals” in the same sentence, but it just sounded really, really cute.  I just love Anna 🙂

Heidi: My DVR musta cut that out. 🙂 Seriously – I missed it. And I’m feeling inordinately cranky right now. “This show sucks” level of cranky. 🙂 That’s MY fucking THEME for the week! How do you like that one, asshat producers??!?!

Asshat O’ the Week Award: Carrie Ann Inaba; (dis)honorable mention for Lacey Schwimmer

Courtney: A few weeks back it was Bruno just being flamboyantly insulting…this time it was Carrie Ann just kinda being, well…bitchy.  And arrogant.  I mentioned in my rankings that it really rubbed me the wrong way when she told Jennifer that she needed to “calm down” and seemed as though she took it as a personal insult that Jennifer didn’t do so hot this week.  What, like they’re all there to dance for YOUR viewing pleasure, Carrie Ann? And you’re gonna tell them to calm down like you’re the parent and they’re rowdy kids disrupting your soap opera viewing? What are you gonna do next, spank them like you tried unsuccessfully to do to Maks a few weeks ago? It’s just not a manner that I think adults should talk to other adults in. The crankiness continued with Kurt, whom she just kinda brushed off, saying “It wasn’t good.  It didn’t come together. Sorry.” Granted, there was a half-assed attempt at an apology (if you can call it that) when it came down to Audrina & Tony and Jennifer & Derek under the red lights, but even then, she just kinda glossed over it, saying “Yah, I was hard on Jen, but she deserves to be there.” Heidi tells me that Carrie Ann had been getting some pretty nasty @replies on Twitter all day…maybe this was a feeble attempt to save face.  I did have to snicker that they seemed to deliberately replay clips of her bitchiness during the results show, hehe. Jeez…you know it’ s a weird season when Len is the most likeable  judge up there! As for Lacey – she seemed unusually tantrum-y this week, and I can’t tell if she’s just getting flustered with Kyle or she’s coming to realize that she’s really gonna have to step up her choreo to please the judges and stand a chance against some of the other couples that are left.  Screaming during rehearsals.  Screaming at him after she slipped during their dress rehearsal (that looked particularly nasty :-(). Screaming at him when he slipped up during their performance.  Yikes.

Heidi: Carrie Ann Inaba can kiss my lily white ass. How’s that for bitchy?? 🙂 Ya know what? It makes you look stupid when you say shit like that to contestants and then have the nerve to be all outraged that they’re “in jeopardy” – like you had no hand in it at all. And Lacey?? STFU. The end.

Tom Bergeron Line O’ the Week: “ANGRY ROCK MOB!!! YES!!!”

Courtney: Once again, Tom diffuses a terribly awkward situation (in this case, the audience still booing quite loudly long after Kurt & Anna got their scores) by not only being funny, but managing to tie in the night’s theme 🙂 God I love that man.  I’d love to get stuck in a mosh pit with him anytime!

Heidi: I thought I had dibs on The Bergeron??? Are you poaching?? 🙂

Tom Bergeron Line O’ the Week, Part Deux: “Bandana Boy is Goin’ DOWN!” (in reference to Apolo Ohno)

Heidi: He manages to give that the emphasis that Kristi is too sweet to manage. 🙂 Cracks my shit up. Poor Brooke, trying to ad lib a follow up to that, murmuring something about it being “on” now.

Courtney: Kristi gives, quite possibly, the most PC little spiel ever about the team dances, and then Tom punctuates it with this one.  He was like a kid who had downed an entire back of Pixi Sticks this week, with the comments he was making! LOL 😛

The WTF?! Costuming Award of the Week, Female: Lacey’s feathered, gartered, corseted nightmare of a tango dress

Courtney: Word to the wise: dressing like Adam Lambert only works for Adam Lambert…and even then it sometimes still looks ridiculous.  The garter/skirt (which reminded me vaguely of her dress from her Viennese waltz with Steve-O) with the boyshorts underneath just seemed to make her thighs look huge, and I couldn’t stop focusing on the feathers on the shoulders.  I really wish the wardrobe folks would stop indulging her every edgy, rebellious whim…

Heidi:What the hell was she wearing?? Who thinks to cross a merry widow with a skirt?? And then pile more crap on top of it? In no way do I think Lacey is heavy – not at all – but I have to say that the cut of the skirt with the shorts was just not a flattering look on her. But then, it might not be flattering on anyone.

The WTF?! Costuming Award of the Week, Male: Maks’ Stormtrooper pants/shoes

Courtney: The top was ok, if not slightly Hans Solo-ish, but between the shoes and boots – he may as well have been an extra in Star Wars.  Seemed to make him look kinda flat-footed.  Brandy was equally as bad in some Halloween costume store metallic leggings…and which judge was comparing them to something out of Mad Max? Bruno? I know the costumes are slightly reminiscent of that movie, but “Holding Out for a Hero” is almost iconically associated with the famous chicken-played-on-tractors scene in Footloose.  I kept wondering when the tractors were gonna come rolling in during this tango.

Heidi: What he did to Brandy was worse – Silver pants?? Girlfriend has great legs – you know, rocker chicks wear skirts too. And those stormtrooper pants didn’t do him the favors that his Marathon Pants did…do you want babies someday, Maks?? Then step away from the pleather. Heat and friction and tight quarters = bad for the swimmers. 🙂

The “Holy Shit it never fails to Impress” Award: Kym Johnson for her AT Dress from the Top 10 Dances

Heidi: Dayum, I’m jealous of the rockin’ bod Kym has going on in her Argentine Tango dress from Season 9, even two seasons later. I was impressed all over again. Little did I know that it would be one of the few times that I would be impressed on Monday Night.

Courtney: Kym is hotttttt.  Huh huh, huh huh.

The “Holy Shit that’s a Nice BUTT” Award: Derek Hough and Maksim Chmerkovskyi

Heidi: The gift that keeps on giving. And something for everyone. Like them big and burly with dark hair?? In this corner we have Maks of the mesmerizing marathon butt. Like them blond and slender and fast? In this corner we have Derek of the tight, tight…buns….:::thud:::

Courtney: Call me crazy but I wasn’t paying attention.  I was crabby and I’m really more of a pec girl anyway.  Speaking of which…I miss the Situation 😉

Heidi: I’m feeding you lots of wine next week, girly. Priorities, priorities – butts are high on the list!!

Best Use of Guyliner in a Ballroom Competition: Derek Hough; Honorable Mention – Rick Fox

Heidi: Not only does guyliner really make Derek’s blue eyes pop, but it’s a press tool too. He jokingly cracks that it’s the guyliner’s fault that he and Jennifer screwed up their dance. He creates this relatively elaborate tale about sweat, etc. ending with: “If you’re a guy, don’t use eyeliner.” And proceeds to make fools out of half the press corp who borrow the story from the original source and who proceed to print it as if it WEREN’T a joke. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t pathetic. As for Rick Fox – well he just looks hot in it. 🙂 Hey, when the show generally sucks you guys are going to hear a whole lot about Derek and hot male butts because that was pretty much all there was for me. Well, The Bergeron, too. 🙂 Who I’m sure has a very nice butt.

Courtney: Good ol’ Rick – I get the feeling he’s someone who rolls with the punches very well.  Cheryl tells him he’s getting a faux hawk? “Ok!” Guyliner? “Sure, why not?” Wish I had more to say but…yah, guyliner looks good.  Damn these awards suck this week 🙁 Sorry guys…

Heidi: Hey, we work with what we’re given. And what we were given made us exceedingly cranky. There ain’t enough wine in the world…

Award for LOL Moment, Non-Tom Bergeron Instigated: Derek Hough

Heidi: Poor Derek, ditched under the red light. Shit like that should happen more often because I LOL’ed at the way he hunched himself over like a scared little nerd. And really, how often can a pro intentionally make the Master of the Funny, Tom Bergeron, laugh without pinching his ass?? Derek seems to manage at least once a season.

Courtney: I gotta give him props for handling it way better than Karina did when the Sitch stepped over to shake Bolt’s hand during the week he was eliminated…she was freaking the hell out.

The “Oh Please Frickin’ Spare Me” Award: The producers for another time wasting bit from all the contestants discussing how they want to win, how they’re tired, blah blah blah.

Heidi: Oh shut the hell up. :::rolls eyes:::

Courtney: Agreed.

The Broad Still Has IT Award: Ann and Nancy Wilson (HEART)

Heidi: Gee, look at that, current pop tarts!! You CAN sing live and sound pretty kick ass, even though you are not getting any younger. Dang, I love me some Heart. The pro dance was okay – still prefer the old way of doing them sans musical guest. Ah well. I’m sure that someone will say they didn’t sound that good – someone who’s a fan of Britney or some other chickie who always sounds good because she’s always lip syncing.

Courtney: I still say Ann Wilson sounds just as good now – if not better! – than she did 20 years ago.  And Nancy Wilson is just freakin’ beautiful…looks fantastic for someone that is supposedly going through a divorce right now.  I really wish they had ix-nayed some of the filler (see above award) and had Heart sing a 2nd song – “Alone”, “What About Love”, “These Dreams”, “Crazy on You”, “Never”…take your pick, they all rock.  I really wish one of them would do the show in an upcoming season…someone’s gotta salvage the reputation of 80s rockers after Belinda Carlisle got the boot so early!

The “Oh Dear God it Runs in the Family and It’s Skeery” Award: Mark Ballas

Heidi: So when he and Bristol are standing up on the steps and Brooke is reading her speil “Are they safe, or did the viewers..blah blah”, Mark actually is staring without blinking – like he’s fallen asleep with his eyes open. Skeery. Not as skeery as his dad last week, but still. The worst part is that when he is sleeping he slouches so he looks even more like a little tiny man next to Bristol. 🙂

Courtney: Once again, my theory on Mark’s birth: Shirley isn’t really his mom.  Corky just split down the middle like a paramecium and the result was Mark.

Heidi: Bwhahahaha…and she pulls one out folks!! Mark the amoeba!! I almost aspirated my diet Coke. 🙂

Ultrasound sales specialist by day, semi-knowledgeable DWTS fan by night...with a smattering of hair & makeup enthusiast, occasional model, baker, and crazy cat lady peppered in to make things REALLY interesting ;-) I might pee my pants in happiness if Donnie Wahlberg ever does DWTS - or if they ever use "Sunglasses at Night" as a paso doble.

DWTS, Season 11, Week 6 – Recovering from the Aftershock and Media

As most of you know, next week, Dancing with the Stars will celebrate its 200th episode. Associated Content is reporting that each celebrity will perform a dance they have not learned yet as well as a team dance. To celebrate the 200th episode, past DWTS contestants will return. Among those confirmed to return to the ballroom are Helio Castroneves, Kelly Osbourne, Emmitt Smith, Drew Lachey, Mel B. and Gilles Marini. There will also be two group dances, led by “DWTS” winners , team captains Kristi Yamaguchi (season 6) and Apolo Ohno (season 4). Musical guests include Taylor Swift and Rod Stewart.

Right now, this is all very confusing to me and messy. I hope that isn’t the case next week. We are all confused enough by what happened this past week with the elimination of Audrina and Tony which I still haven’t recovered from. lol (Heidi: It didn’t confuse me. 😉 )

Speaking of….Erin Andrews dished to Movie Line on her thoughts on the devastating elimination. Here are some snippets from that interview. Be sure to see the link for more.

In fact, it’s probably good to have a bad week. Then people remember to vote for you. Otherwise you end up like Audrina did yesterday!I’m… stunned. Are you stunned?

Traumatized!Ha! I was shocked. I was actually flying back from LA, and I hadn’t gotten to see the show. When I landed, I read Maks’s Twitter, and it said, “America got it wrong.” And I was like, “What?!” They were the last people I thought would be eliminated. I was with Tony [Dovolani, Audrina’s partner] at dinner the night before. Let me tell you, there are some nights you think you’re going home. But that was not the vibe any of us felt about those two.

Ouch, you got to talk to them the night before? Were they at all pessimistic? I mean, they tied for second place this week.Second place. It was unbelievable. I don’t think either one of them had the sense they’d be leaving at all. I think everyone kind of thought, “Ehh, maybe this person will go, that person. Maybe it’s time for that person to go.” But not those two!

On Maks, Brandy, and Bristol, she said this…..

Yeah, you got to witness the Brandy-Maks dynamic firsthand. What did you think?I liked it! You know, I thought their dance was great. I thought he kind of stole the show with the leather pants — no offense to Brandy. I mean, he comes out in those pants and it’s like, what else are you supposed to focus on? But I loved meeting her. She was great. You can tell she really, really, really wants to win this thing. She kept saying it over and over. She kept saying, “I really want to win this. I really want to win this.” She said she was glad I was came and she appreciated the support. So I enjoyed meeting her.

I know you said Bristol did better this week, but how optimistic are you for her future on the show?I don’t know. It’s just going to get harder. Obviously the night of the dance marathon that night, I was there. But they’re going to have to start doing two dances. It’s going to get worse. The competition will get more difficult. I mean, if she can stay in it, and I know she wants to, I’m all for it. Good for her. But it’s just going to start getting harder. I don’t remember what her criticism was that night, but I thought she did have the technique. Her technique looked great. She’s just got to let herself go, emotions-wise. I don’t know what dances she has coming up, but it’s not going to be any easier. And the judges aren’t going to get any easier as well.

Mark Ballas has blogged a little about the next week’s dances and Bristol at USA Today. Here’s what he wrote;

Time to kick it into overdrive!

The results show just wrapped and I only have about 20 minutes before the remaining cast hops into a minibus and heads to rehearsal for three hours tonight. We have two dances next week: a partner dance like we always have, and a group dance. For the group dance, we’re separating into two teams of three couples, each headed up by either (former season champs) Apolo (Ohno) or Kristi (Yamaguchi) my partner when we won Season 6. I really hope I’m with Kristi, as we’re close friends and work very well together.

It might sound redundant by now, but I’m really proud of Bristol. After getting the poor scores and doing our worst last week, getting the encore performance this week was incredible! I knew heading into Monday’s show that Bris would do well, and she killed it. I wish (judge) Len (Goodman) hadn’t docked us the point for separating, but it doesn’t matter because Bristol is coming alive on the floor!

Have you noticed how she’s really owned the judges’ critiques of more emotional performing, playing a character and enjoying the dance? The more comfortable she feels, the better I think we’ll do. Isn’t it fun watching Bristol get better every week? I know I love it, and I get a front-row seat. Each week, this competition will get more heated. The dancers are a close bunch, and we become like a big family with the celebs. But on show days and with someone going home on results shows, backstage gets really tense. I mean awkward tense. Everyone is working hard, and no one wants to lose.

We hope to have more blogs coming up. So, stayed tuned.

Thanks to Heidi and Pure Derek Hough for this interview of Derek at Popwatch. He may like the “Theme Nights” but, I think it’s safe to say from the reaction here, fans of the show are over them. More at the link.

Does anyone on the show take the “in jeopardy” thing seriously at this point? Were you and Jen shaken at all to be “under the red light”?You forget while it’s happening that it may not be a real bottom two. That red light is like the warming light at a diner. You hope that something good comes out of it, but you never really know.

How important do you think is the order in which couples dance on Mondays? Any idea how the order is determined? Are you relieved whenever you find out you’re dancing near the end of the show?
Every couple is different. I’m not sure how they choose who goes first and last, but I’d prefer if we always went in the middle somewhere.

So many theme nights this fall! Are you tired of shaping dances around themes, or do you think themes are necessary to keep things interesting after so many seasons?
The themes present new challenges. I like that aspect of it — we get to think even more creatively about choreographing and props.

Heidi’s Note: Found an article about Audrina’s elimination and the guest judges next week at Access Hollywood:

Next week’s “Dancing” episode will mark the show’s 200th episode and more than 50 former celebrity contenders will be back for the monumental event.

Helio Castroneves, Kelly Osbourne, Emmitt Smith, Drew Lachey, Mel B and Gilles Marini will all return to serve as guest judges, while Apolo Anton Ohno and Kristi Yamaguchi will also be back to serve as head team captains for a group dance round with the show’s current contenders.

On Tuesday, Kristi, who returned to the ballroom, said she’s ready to take down her fellow skater after seeing him land a couple of his “Dancing” numbers in the Viewer-Voted All Time Top 10. (Click HERE to see which dances made the list)

“He had two dances in the top 10 and that just stoked my fire because I want to turn the heat on now,” she said. “I want my team to beat his.”

In TV Alerts out there: Be sure to watch The Ellen Show on Friday. Maks and Brandy are making a guest appearance on Ellen’s special “Halloween” show. Should be good.

Lastly, just a reminder that today is the last day you can vote in the “Design a Dance” competition for your favorite dancers. So be sure to get your votes in if you want to see your favorites dance.

Ok, that is for now All!! More later if you are good. 😉

DWTS Season 11 Casting Rumors – The Typecasting of Season 11, Part I

Prior to the cast announcement last season, some of you may remember me analyzing the typecasting of DWTS – basically, the patterns in celeb casting over the seasons which can help us to predict who we might see each season.  Interesting to note – last season’s cast fulfilled all 12 of my types (counting Nicole as both a “Teen Idol” and a “Singer”).  So why not examine those types again and see what we might get for this season? 😉

The Olympian

Previous examples: Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, Apolo Ohno, Natalie Coughlin, Misty May-Treanor, Maurice Greene, Louie Vito, Evan Lysacek

Advantages: The winningest of the 12 types, their obvious advantage is their athleticism – you won’t see these guys struggling with strength or endurance moves.  In addition, the same tireless work ethic that helped them medal in the Olympics will likely carry them through the toils of the competition.

Disadvantages: For those specializing in sports that are less “artistic” (i.e. swimming, running, volleyball), it might be a bit hard to really get into the character of the dance and truly perform to the crowd.  Previously incurred injuries (or the fear of incurring an injury that might hinder their participation in subsequent competitions in their sport, a la Misty May-Treanor) may also slow them down & limit their mobility.

Possible candidates this season: Johnny Weir fans (including Karina Smirnoff) have been tweeting like crazy trying to get him cast this season, but I don’t see them succeeding.  I see more possibilities with swimmer Greg Louganis, who has been trying to get on the show for several seasons now, or gymnast Nastia Liukin – a teammate of Shawn Johnson’s & an alleged former flame of Lysacek.

The Athlete

Previous examples: Chuck Liddell, Warren Sapp, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Helio Castroneves, Laila Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Ty Murray, Evander Holyfield, Jerry Rice, Clyde Drexler, Monica Seles, Jason Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Chad Ochocinco

Advantages: As with the Olympians, their athleticism & work ethic make them well-suited to the competition.  An edge they might have over their Olympic counterparts: sports like football, auto racing, & mixed martial arts tend to have a larger, more mainstream following than some of the Olympic sports.

Disadvantages: Again, a lack of “artistic” experience & previous injury (especially with the football players, who have really taken a beating over the years). Some of the more muscular athletes in hard-hitting sports may also have difficulty with the refined, precise moves of some of the dances.

Possible candidates this season: At this point, the numerous (reputable) news outlets reporting that Kurt Warner is going to be on season 11, along with Kurt’s own coy dodging of questions regarding his participation, make him almost a lock for this season in my eyes.   Don’t see a whole lot of hope for wrestler Shelley Martinez. Landon Donovan is a toss-up for me – maybe, maybe not. We here at Pure DWTS would love to see a representative from a more unique sport – such as jockey Chantal SutherlandTroy Aikmen – nice try, but we’re pretty sure you’re just joshin’ us 😉

The Model/Playmate/Beauty Queen

Previous examples: Kelly Monaco, Rachel Hunter, Tia Carrere, Shanna Moakler, Paulina Porizkova, Shandi Finnessey, Josie Maran, Albert Reed, Shannon Elizabeth, Brooke Burke, Holly Madison, Kathy Ireland, Joanna Krupa, Pam Anderson

Advantages: All the costumes seem to look fantastic on them (and they can get away with wearing the really skimpy ones) and so do their pro partners – easy to imagine a “showmance”, which always seems to grab votes.  Also seems to have cornered the votes of the small population of male viewers, for obvious reasons 😉

Disadvantages: Despite making a career out of looking great posing & strutting down the runway, many of them have proven to be rather awkward movers outside of that context, and some seem to have a hard time carrying around their taller than average stature.  They also run the risk of “pretty girl backlash” – the female viewers may turn on them due to jealousy or perceived arrogance, or just never vote for them in the first place, instead giving their votes to the attractive male participants.

Possible candidates this season: Rumors have been flying about UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste, and True Beauty contestant Amy Schmoldt has been hinting that she’d like to do the show.

The Legend

Previous examples: Cloris Leachman, Wayne Newton, Donny Osmond, Tatum O’Neal, Marie Osmond, Jane Seymour, Marlee Matlin, Susan Lucci

Advantages: These individuals are extremely well-known & respected in the entertainment business, with many years of experience (and fans) under their belts, as well as an award or two. Also masters of the stage & screen – perhaps the best at emulating the emotions of the dances.

Disadvantages: With many years of experience comes an older age than many of their competitors – which comes with an increased risk of injury & fatigue that could limit the difficulty of their routines.

Possible candidates this season: The Betty White rumor seems to be kaput, so that only leaves Ryan O’Neal, whose name we’ve heard only a few times as a possible contestant.

The Soap Star

Previous examples: Kelly Monaco, Cameron Mathison, Lisa Rinna, Susan Lucci, Aiden Turner

Advantages: The demographic of soap opera viewers overlaps heavily with the demographic of viewers of DWTS, and most soap opera viewers have been watching those shows for years (I started watching General Hospital when I was 6!), so they often have a fierce loyalty to their favorite characters (and the actors/actresses who portray them).

Disadvantages: This group likely has the most grueling schedule to contend with, as most soaps tape year-round, and some of them are taped in New York, forcing the stars (and sometimes their partners) to fly coast-to-coast several times a week to practice.  Many also have absolutely no background in any kind of sport, making them a real “project” for the pros to take on.

Possible candidates this season: The most likely is probably Nancy Lee Grahn, since she’s on an ABC soap.  Although I’d love to see Martha Byrne’s campaigners succeed in getting her on the show! As for the men – seems like the only name we’ve heard is Antonio Sabato Jr., and that really just seems more like wishful thinking on the part of his fans.

The Comedian

Previous examples: Penn Jillette, Jeff Ross, Adam Carolla, David Allen Grier, Ashley Hamilton, Niecy Nash

Advantages: Let’s face it, they’re fun to watch, and they definitely inject some much- needed hilarity into the show.

Disadvantages: They often come across like they don’t take the competition seriously, instead favoring their usual schtick over actual dancing. Some of their on-show humor (Jeff Ross’ in particular) can also be rather polarizing – hilarious to some, offensive to others. And again – often no background in any sort of sport, let alone dancing.

Possible candidates this season: The only name we’ve heard is Heather McDonald, and we can’t even telling if she’s serious or kidding 😛

Tune in for part II, when I make my predictions for who we might see in the way of reality TV stars, teen idols, and much more!

My life can be summed up in the following two quotes: 1) "I am married to engineering and am its faithful wife by day, but at night my wanderlust takes hold and the arts becomes my jealous paramour." and... 2) "Engineering is my safety net. Writing is my passion. Acting is my escape when the other two become too much." So where does dancing fit in? Pretty much anywhere at this point... =)

DWTS 10 Week 6 Predictions

Another week has come and gone and with upcoming Monday’s show, comes new dances… in this case the fiesty Samba and the sultry Argentine Tango…

(Un)Fortunately, the Argentine Tango was introduced only two seasons ago as thus there is limited data available for analysis. But I will do with what I can…

Many thanks to Heidi for breaking down who is dancing what in tomorrow’s show

– Season 8 (Lawrence Taylor/Edyta Sliwinska, Week 4): 19/30

Prediction: 26/30

Jake Pavelka/Chelsie Hightower – Samba
– Season 8 (w/ Ty Murray, Week 10): 23/30
Since there is so little information in regards we look to other reality stars for additional data
– Season 8 (Holly Madison/Dmitry Chaplin, Week 3): 17/30
– Season 8 (Melissa Rycroft/Tony Dovolani, Week 9): 30/30
Prediction: 23/30

Nicole Scherzinger/Derek Hough – Samba
– Season 5 (w/ Jennie Garth, Week 5): 25/30
– Season 6 (w/ Shannon Elizabeth, Week 5): 23/30
– Season 7 (w/ Brooke Burke, Week 4): 26/30

As for who I think will leave the competition on Tuesday? According to several calculations, I believe that bottom two would be Niecy and Pam with Niecy going home… though I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Jake is swapped with Pamela.

Those are my predictions, what are yours? 🙂

DWTS 10 Week 5 Predictions

Hola! Konnichiwa! Bonjour! Alo! I’m Marianya the newest blogger on the site. I’ve been a fan and following DWTS since Season 2. I have done some ballroom dancing myself and totally recommend it as a recreational activity for those that are fans of DWTS and would like to know how to dance… even just for fun!

In any case, Princess Heidi did an awesome write up that includes which dance each celeb/pro is doing, possible song choices, commentary, etc. What I’m attempting to do is take past scores and experiences of the pros (and in some cases past celebs that relate to a current celeb) and will attempt to predict what their scores are going to be tonight. I did not use scores from relays, or team dances. I also did not use scores of the Argentine Tango since it is a different dance from the Tango.

And now, in no particular order…

Evan Lysacek/Anna Trebunskya – Rumba
– Season 2 (w/ Jerry Rice, Week 7): 21/30
Since there is not enough information, I’m going to add include the scores of previous figure skaters:
– Season 6 (Kristi Yamaguchi/Mark Ballas, Week 5): 29/30
Prediction: 26/30

Jake Pavelka/Chelsie Hightower – ChaCha
– Season 8 (w/ Ty Murray, Week 1): 14/30
Since Chelsie has only done the ChaCha with Ty Murray, I’m going to pull data from previous reality stars.
– Season 8 (Holly Madison/Dmitry Chaplin, Week 1): 18/30
– Season 8 (Melissa Rycroft/Tony Dovolani, Week 10): 27/30
Prediction: 21/30

Chad Ochocinco/Cheryl Burke – Quickstep
– Season 2 (w/ Drew Lachey, Week 2): 27/30
– Season 3 (w/ Emmitt Smith, Week 2): 24/30
– Season 4 (w/ Ian Ziering, Week 2): 22/30
– Season 5 (w/ Wayne Newton, Week 2): 15/30
– Season 6 (w/ Cristian de la Fuente, Week 2): 20/30
– Season 7 (w/ Maurice Greene, Week 8): 24/30
– Season 8 (w/ Gilles Marini, Week 2): 27/30
Prediction: 22/30

Niecy Nash/Louis Van Amstel – Jive
– Season 2 (w/ Lisa Rinna, Week 3): 25/30
– Season 3 (w/ Monique Coleman, Week 3): 27/30
– Season 9 (w/ Kelly Osbourne, Week 8): 26/30
Prediction: 24/30

Kate Gosselin/Tony Dovolani – Foxtrot
– Season 2 (w/ Stacy Keibler, Week 4): 26/30
– Season 3 (w/ Sara Evans, Week 1): 15/30
– Season 4 (w/ Leeza Gibbons, Week 1): 15/30
– Season 5 (w/ Jane Seymour, Week 1): 24/30
– Season 6 (w/ Marissa Jaret Winokur, Week 8): 25/30
– Season 8 (w/ Melissa Rycroft, Week 3): 27/30
Prediction: 17/30

Nicole Sherzinger/Derek Hough – Tango
– Season 5 (w/ Jennie Garth, Week 3): 26/30
– Season 6 (w/ Shannon Elizabeth, Week 7): 27/30
– Season 7 (w/ Brooke Burke, Week 8): 28/30
Prediction: 26/30

Erin Andrews/Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Jive
– Season 3 (w/ Willa Ford, Week 3): 22/30
– Season 4 (w/ Laila Ali, Week 8): 26/30
– Season 5 (w/ Mel B, Week 3): 27/30
Prediction: 22/30

Pamela Anderson/Damian Whitewood – Quickstep
– Season 1 (Kelly Monaco/Alec Mazo, Dance Off): 24/30
– Season 8 (Holly Madison/Dmitry Chaplin, Week 2): 18/30
I’m comparing with the only data that would be relevant, which is via the celeb… Since this is later in the season, and Pamela is slowly doing better… and can act…
Prediction: 22/30

So those are my predictions for the night… What are your predictions? 😀

Data Disclaimer: This was the best data I could find. Feel free to correct anything I might have gotten wrong so I can update the post.
