Our past and current Pros of Dancing With The Stars are so busy currently and Emma Slater, Kym Johnson, and Tristan MacManus are no different as they are currently sailing and performing on the Holland America Cruises to Alaska. Thanks to Emma, below are some fun instagrams. You might see some other familiar faces too. For more coverage, see this Holland America Cruises link. They have some fun and breathtaking photos as well. Keep following Emma’s instagram as she may post more.
What do you think of these dresses? Last night, Dancing With The Stars pros Cheryl Burke and Peta Murgatroyd graced the red carpet at the MAXIM Hot 100 Celebration at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California. Also, guess what? Kym Johnson also attended. Henry of PopTVDotCom caught up with her and asked her about who she’d like to dance with if she came back to Dancing With The Stars next season (video below). She said Bill Clinton (I’d love that too!). It’s great to see her again. For more fun photos of them all, see Getty Images. Gorgeous!
Red Carpet Roxy talked Tom Bergeron, Sharna Burgess, Karina Smirnoff, Danica McKellar and Kym Johnson about this season of Dancing With The Stars at the Wrap Party!! This is fun…especially the end. Check it out!
Okay, here’s part 2 – be sure to watch part 1 so you can get the full history.
Part 2 could be called the “Hough-Ballas-Johnson” Section. What I notice about Derek and Mark’s early Freestyles is that they craft something exciting but they still get a lot of actual dancing in there. I remember critics saying it was all lifts and no dancing….crack is wack, ya’ll. Looking forward to seeing both freestyles from them this Monday as they’ve both matured so much in both style and choreography.
Season 7 – Brooke and Derek. I loved this freestyle. It’s funny to watch now as Derek is a good bit smaller – you’ll also note that this is the beginning of his recurring back problems. What I loved about this freestyle is that, from Brooke, it was unexpected, I think. She was the best dancer this season and I remember thinking that there was no way she was beating Warren the showman – I think this dance might have done it for her. Read more..
What a fun new interview with Dancing With The Stars Tristan MacManus. He and Kym Johnson are out there dancing up a storm in the current run of Ballroom With A Twist. He took time out to talk about it with News Press Now. He puts it all into perspective just perfectly for what this show is about. I can’t rave on it enough. Our schedule has recently been updated. Be sure to see this link for dates and ticket information, etc. Be sure you are following Ballroom With A Twist Facebook too. Things are heating up for the summer season as Gleb Savchenko told us too last week.
“I assumed that I’d come in and do a little bit of dancing, but as it turns out, we host the show,” MacManus says with a laugh.
MacManus quickly became an audience favorite and a great co-host. The friendly Irishman frequently gets the crowd involved, and he really lets them open up during revamped Q&A sessions.
“Over time, I’ve kind of gone a bit rogue with it,” MacManus laughs. “It used to be scripted out what we’d ask each other, and we’d tell them what we’d assume they’d want to know. Now, the audience can shout out any question they want to know the answer to. I find it more fun that way and people seem to appreciate the interaction more.”
As far as dancing is concerned, MacManus is quick to glaze over his portions of the show and pour praise on its other acts. In addition to performances by MacManus and Johnson, “Ballroom With a Twist” features numbers by Jonathan “Legacy” Perez, Randi Lynn Strong and Jonathan Platero of “So You Think You Can Dance” set to vocal performances by former “American Idol” contestants Gina Glocksen and Von Smith.
One of the greatest crowd-pleasers of the evening, MacManus says, is a scintillating contemporary dance routine by the “So You Think You Can Dance” trio set to Glocksen’s rendition of “Gravity” by Sara Bareilles. He adds that the Missouri Theater audience shouldn’t blink when Perez showcases his impressive B-boy stylings.
“He spins on his head an awful lot,” MacManus says.
The professional squad runs the gamut of dance styles throughout the night, dabbling in the samba, the rumba, the waltz, the foxtrot, the quickstep, the jive and even a little bit of fusion. While the smaller routines are choreographed by the dancers themselves, MacManus says van Amstel’s signature touches can be seen throughout the large group numbers.
“There’s very ‘Louie’ numbers in there,” he says. “You can see a lot of Louie-esque movements. He loves very intricate choreography and a lot of really fast, double-time stuff, and you can see that influence in the show.”
“Sometimes, people assume that Kym and I are really good because we’re on the TV show, but the chorus numbers are great,” he adds. “I think people will really enjoy them and be surprised by them.”
While “Ballroom With a Twist” consistently brings in fans of “Dancing With the Stars,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol,” MacManus says the TV shows just don’t compare with the intimacy of the theater. On May 1, the audience will get an up-close glimpse at the talent, the athleticism and the colorful spectacle that makes those primetime programs a hit.
“Once you see the live show,” he says, “you’ll appreciate singing or dancing more than you’ll appreciate the TV shows.”

The show’s hosts, Johnson and McManus, injected a bit of light-hearted humor into the evening, inviting the audience to ask them questions.
“I imagined myself with George Clooney,” Johnson said in response to a question as to how her dance partners were selected, “but I got Jerry Springer.”
She went on to add that Springer turned out to be a great dance partner and she had a lot of fun with him.Johnson and McManus also led the audience in a group dance session, cheering and encouraging everyone to get out of their seats and shimmy to the beat.
But if applause was any indication, the evening’s mega star clearly was Jonathan “Legacy” Perez, who captivated and awed with his gymnastic, gravity defying break dancing moves.Indeed, ballroom dance is alive and well, but with a few contemporary tweaks. These twists provided enough oomph to satisfy audiences of all ages and leave them on their feet and cheering for more.
DWTS Peta Murgatroyd, Cheryl Burke, Karina Smirnoff, Maks Chmerkovskiy, And More Attend Oscar & QVC Parties, Etc
Peta Murgatroyd looks like a princess! Last night, the Dancing With The Stars pro attended the QVC 5th Annual Red Carpet Style Event. Cheryl Burke and Anna Trebunskaya also attended the event (see pic below) in some really cute dresses. If you’d like to see more photos of them, visit Getty Images and Startraksphoto. Derek Hough was suppose to attend this event, but, so far, we haven’t seen any photos. He may be too in deep getting ready for the GMA Oscar Tribute for Monday?
Also, Maks Chmerkovskiy attended Kari Feinstein’s Pre-Academy Awards Style Lounge party at the Andaz West Hollywood in Los Angeles, California yesterday. You can view some new photos of him at Getty Images.
We missed posting new photos of Tony Dovolani attending the OK! Magazine Pre Oscar party. You can view some new photos of him at this Getty link.
It’s also fun to see former Dancing With The Stars pro Kym Johnson again. She attended BritWeek Oscar Party this week wearing a yellow dress and a black silk jacket. So cute!
Lastly, isn’t Karina Smirnoff a vision again? She was seen enjoying the night out at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood, California in a black backless suit (does she not have one of the best backs?). So pretty! You can view more gorgeous photos of her at Zimbio Pictures.
And that is all…for now! 3 more days until the Dancing With The Stars cast announcement (not counting today)!~Vogue xx
It’s that time of year once again, boys and girls – time for Pro Watch. It will be very interesting to see what happens this year, after they let go of the band. That was a huge cost savings to them. The question is: are they looking to save even more money (say goodbye to Derek and possibly Cheryl) or have they saved so much that they can afford the popular, long term pros that have kept people coming back to this show season after season? I personally think that they will do what they can to hold on to Derek – he’s an Emmy winner and that’s very helpful to the show’s cache. I think they will also do their best to hold on to Cheryl, Karina and Mark. I’m GUESSING that Val and Tristan are still locked into contracts that are beneficial to ABC so they aren’t in question as long as they find a partner for them. As always, I could be wrong.
