The fun in Las Vegas continues! Over the weekend, not only did they have a birthday celebration, Dancing With The Stars Mark Ballas and Cheryl Burke attended the Simon G Soiree at the Four Seasons Hotel. Cheryl Burke has made a statement at her facebook page about the recent People article about conquering her weight issues. She thanks everyone for all the positive comments. She also comments on the criticism along the way saying, “I’ve had a very public struggle with the press and their comments about my weight for a number of years now, but I want to make it clear that this isn’t about them. Yes, I have been hurt by their criticism, but I’m only human. This wasn’t some drastic change I made overnight. I’m not caving in to the pressures of Hollywood, as some of you have expressed your concern that I might be, and I’m certainly not starving myself.” She continued saying, “It’s not about chasing a number on the scale, and it’s not about Hollywood. We will all face criticism throughout our lives, no matter where we live and what we weigh. So if you’re struggling with that, you’re not alone.” To read more from Cheryl, see this link.
Also, Cheryl is currently in Las Vegas. She’s holding a 30th birthday party tonight at the Tao Beach. Sharna Burgess posted this instagram below of she, Cheryl, and Cheryl’s sister Nicole who are already celebrating. Note that Sharna has a birthday coming up soon as well on June 21st. Beautiful! These dresses are gorgeous too! I just wish I could see their SHOES! 😀

Do you like Hip-Hop dancing? I love it, but, I tend to love every style of dance…even Square Dancing. Yes. 😀
Speaking of….our Miss Sharna is currently in Las Vegas, Nevada judging the USA Hip-Hop Dance Championships. The Las Vegas Sun interviewed her to get her thoughts about it and why she thinks this style of dance is so popular and how it and the dancers are inspiring to her. Being open to new things is an important part of growing and you can tell in her dancing on Dancing With The Stars. Do you agree?? Here is more….
Why do you think hip-hop dance is so popular worldwide?
I think it’s relative to two things. The evolution of hip-hop dance styles and their popularity runs parallel with the evolution of hip-hop music and its growing culture. It’s been around since the late ’70s, early ’80s, but it wasn’t until the 2000s when hip-hop culture began spreading worldwide.
And, as a result, the music and dance styles were no longer an underground thing. The world knew about them and the world fell in love with them.
The other thing that’s had a huge impact on hip-hop styles spreading internationally is social media. Hip-hop is American born, but the likes of YouTube has made it possible for kids in Asia, Europe and Australia to watch any style, to watch and learn from the greatest dance innovators of today.
It’s become accessible for anyone to watch and be inspired.
Why do you take time out of your busy schedule to judge the championship?
My first year with Hip-Hop International was last year, and I fell in love with everything I witnessed. I was truly inspired by these dancers, and not just because of their skill level and creative innovation.
All the crews had a camaraderie with the utmost respect for one another. They were united by an incredible love and dedication to their craft.
They lived and breathed hip-hop, and many had overcome life struggles and difficulties to be the dancer they are. It is a room full of true artists. That is something very special — and something not to be missed.
Lots more at the Las Vegas Sun including some pictures and videos! ADDING: You can also view some video and pictures of Sharna with Hip Op-erational – the world’s oldest hip hop dance crew, from New Zealand at this link.
Also, if you haven’t read our recent interview with Sharna, you can so at this link. Go Sharna!!
For fans of Maks and Val Chmerkovskiy, be sure to check Getty Images today!! They have pictures of the two brothers and dance pros of Dancing With The Stars arriving at the Liquid Pool Lounge at the Aria Resort & Casino at CityCenter on June 27, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada to help promote Olay Body Wash. The Daily Mail has a write up on the event as well with even more pictures, but, don’t forget how they can sensationalize things as you read.
Stay tuned. We may have more with these two later.
