DWTS Season 17, Week 10 – Who’s Dancing What…and When??

Two individual dances…but both to the same song. Could be interesting. Derek is the only one I have real confidence in, with his music background. Karina should be fine too, with Corbin’s background. I guess we’ll see tomorrow. 🙂

Is this the second week in a row that Cheryl is just bad at math?? I think that should be 3rd and 8th, correct??

Could Maks Chmerkovskiy’s Guest Judging DWTS Lead To A Full Time Job Next Season? (New Interview)

Sean, a friend of John’s, sent us a new interview he did with Maks Chmerkovskiy for his site The TV Page. Sean asks Maks all kinds of cool questions about guest judging Dancing With The Stars, if he misses dancing, what kind of judge he will make, etc. Sean also explores the possibility of Maks taking on judging Dancing With The Stars as a full time gig. This is such a great interview. Below are a couple of takes.

“It’s kind of cool that this has happened now,” he tells TheTVPage.com. “For the past two seasons there has been a lot of talk that maybe [the show and I] were on bad terms and whatever. So it was awesome to get this call and hopefully put all the rumors to rest.”

The controversial — and sometimes hot-tempered — dancer left the ballroom after the show’s “all star” season in 2012. In 13 tries, he reached the final round four times and was runner-up twice.

“I honestly never thought that I would have such a hard time letting go of dancing,” Maks admits. “But that is what happened. I may have sounded a certain way while I was [on the show], but then when some time passed and things calmed down and I got the time to do some other things that I was never able to do before because I never had the time, all of a sudden I started missing it. Now the show is coming in and asking me to try myself at the next logical stage of my career. And this is the next logical step. I am excited just for the opportunity to prove to myself that I can do it.”

During his thirteen seasons on the show, Maks, 33, often clashed with judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.

“We all know how I was critical sometimes of the way they work and the things they say and how they were saying it,” he says. “This is an opportunity for me to sit in that spot and try to do, not necessarily better — because I am not saying they are doing a bad job — but to be the type of judge that I have wanted them to be. I am not a hypocrite. I have got to do what I criticized them for…and do it better.”

What kind of judge will you be?
In acting they tell you not to try to mimic somebody else’s voice and intonations, but to be you and try to find the best version of you. It is the same way here. I am just going be me — but older and wiser. And remembering that this is the semifinal and at this point everyone is exhausted and really going on fumes energy-wise. So maybe Bill Engvall isn’t the best dancer that is left out there, but he puts so much effort into what he does that it has to be recognized. At the same time, I gotta also understand that for me, I want to see the best dancer win. So there are people who are left who are in amazing hands whose pros have won it — some of them multiple times. I am just excited to see what the couples bring and I will pretty much decide on the spot. I have never been fake and I have never been scripted, so that is one thing you can expect: genuine me. My opinions and honest in everything that I say.

The obvious question now is “Will this lead to a full time judging job next year?
To be honest with you, I am focused on just Monday. I am trying to do the best job I can and we will go from there. I will continue to do the things I have already been doing. Whether it leads to full time anything is not up to me and it is not the conversation for right now because there is literally no conversation like that happening. Maybe the powers that be are thinking something, but I don’t know.

You can read much more of this new fascinating interview at this link. Let us know what you think and THANKS SEAN for sending this our way!

Dancing with the Stars Season 17, Week 9 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, well, well…sometimes I’m right and I don’t want to be. I said way back when at the beginning of the season that both Christina and Liz were possible early eliminees (along with Brant) but once Christina was gone I had hoped that Elizabeth could make it to the end. Afraid not. She seemed like a nice woman but she just wasn’t getting the votes and her time ran out. She and Christina are the Season 17 equivalent to Kristin and Chynna – only both women lasted longer this season, probably due to better dancing on their part.

Once again we are in a situation of having no real idea of how either Bill or Leah (or any of the rest of them) are doing in terms of votes. It’s a mystery. And it will likely continue to be very interesting because I think Derek had it right when he said that the votes occurring the week before makes it more unpredictable.  Like I said before, last season if you make it through a bad week, you’ve made it through period. But this season, if a bunch of people didn’t like your dance this past week and didn’t vote for you, you have NO chance to redeem yourself – they can’t come out this Monday and do a killer dance such that everyone votes for them and be safe. They can get the great scores, but if people stopped voting for them because their dances just weren’t good last week, then it might not matter. What happened week 8? Well, that’s when Liz changed the choreo at the last minute on Val, against his wishes and it resulted in less than stellar dancing. And clearly, she couldn’t afford that.

Let’s take a look at the scores and the votes needed this past week.

Table 1

Table 2

So, Bill took a step back this week in terms of dancing – will it cost him this coming Monday? What about Amber – everyone knows she’s injured, but what if her time is up? And will they continue to desperately overscore Leah to keep her in the game?? Because, really, when you look at the math it becomes obvious that MAYBE if they had kept it real on Leah, that Liz might still be there.  No one can make a claim, for sure, that their couple is getting a ton of votes because EVERYONE except Corbin beat a margin to get past Liz in terms of votes. Which means she likely wasn’t getting any. Here’s what happened that lead to Liz’s elimination. ALL of the following happened: Read more..

DWTS17 Las Vegas Odds Going Into The Semi-Finals, Switches And Tightening

If you fall behind, run faster. Never give up, never surrender, and rise up against the odds. ~Jesse Jackson

I was wondering if we’d see some switches occur in the new odds for the upcoming Semi-Finals on Dancing With The Stars. However, I never expected to see Leah Remini placed in 3rd at 9/1 odds. 😐 This is getting more and more disturbing by the week. I don’t know what to say or think anymore? 🙁 Please I just hope and pray the right four go to the finals and that is Corbin, Amber, Jack, and Bill in my opinion. Below is more from Sports Bovada.

Corbin Bleu 2/3
Amber Riley 8/5
Leah Remini 9/1
Jack Osbourne 12/1
Bill Engvall 25/1

Below are last week’s odds:

Corbin Bleu 1/1
Amber Riley 11/10
Elizabeth Berkley 7/1
Jack Osbourne 25/1
Leah Remini 75/1
Bill Engvall 100/1

Heidi, Court, and everyone, what to you think?

Courtney: Hehehe…here we complain for several weeks about Bill being stuck at the bottom with 100:1 odds, and then he suddenly jumps to 25:1 in the semifinal week 😛 I doubt he’s made THAT much of a jump, but at this point, anything could happen.  I literally could see ANY of the remaining couples making the finale, and I could see any of the remaining couples getting sent home.  I still think it’s going to ultimately come down to Corbin and someone else (most likely Amber) as the last two standing, and I guess I’m just hoping it’s not Leah that bumps Amber, Jack, or Bill out of the final two…but I continue to get the sinking feeling that Leah has been somehow guaranteed a spot in the finale, which makes me not look forward to the finale.  I think the judges are going to gun hard to send Bill home, and ensure that Corbin, Amber, & Leah make the finale; not really sure where they stand on Jack.  I know they like him better than Bill, but at the same time, I don’t think they’d be too upset about losing him if it meant keeping Leah.  Still think Corbin has the best shot of actually winning this whole thing – but if the judges continue to pick him apart and overscore Leah, I think there’s a serious chance that she of the bad attitude and the  “I’m not a dancer!” philosophy could actually win this thing…which just kinda makes me gag 🙁

Heidi: I’m trying to be optimistic here. Remember last season when Zendaya was a shoe in to win, but she lost it, IMO, on the freestyle? Zendaya had been winning all season long – the twitter contests, everything. She was the pimped one, the golden one. I was certain she would win. Then Derek choreographed that amazing freestyle and it was all over. Kellie won the final twitter contest and she won the show. I think that’s the only time in the history of the show that the freestyle gave someone the edge to  win. I think a bad freestyle costs people the win all the time, but rarely the other way around. Here’s what I’m getting at: in the finale, the dancing seems to count more than it ever does in the rest of the season. I think the finale is the first time many people vote – the ratings are certainly much higher.  Sure, some great dancers have gotten beaten by dancers who were not as good, but typically, those people were still very good dancers. Donny Osmond springs to mind. He had a huge fanbase, too, and was much more likeable than Mya. While Leah has a fanbase, I doubt very much that it’s Osmond sized – and don’t forget Marie only made it to 3rd place and she certainly had a bigger fanbase than Leah.  Leah may dance better than Bill, but she’s not as likeable. And she’s certainly not capable of getting the dances down to the point they give her the win. She may make the final -there are four spots, after all – but she won’t win it. I still have faith in that. Let’s hope I’m right. As for who will actually win, I still think it comes down to Corbin and Amber with Corbin getting the win. Amber may have the bigger fanbase going in…but so did Zendaya.  The only question in my mind is: which four make it to the finale??

Maks Chmerkovskiy Interviewed About Judging Dancing With The Stars, Says Will Be On Best Behavior

Maks Chmerkovskiy was a guest on VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live show With Carrie Keagan this morning to talk about guest judging the Dancing With The Stars Semi-Finals. First, he told Carrie he was relieved he wouldn’t have to judge his brother Val as he is “toughest on the people he loves the most”.

On what kind of judge he will make, Maks said he’s excited and he never thought he’d be a part of this foursome (judging with Carrie Anne Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli). He said he’s been a hypocrite when he danced on the show. Maks can be critical, but, he hopes to be fair as a judge. He also hopes everything he says will come out right and he will try and be on his best behavior. He knows how tired the dancers are at this point in the competition.

On who Maks thinks is the front runner, he names Corbin Bleu and praises Karina Smirnoff as being one of the best choreographers. He also gives Derek Hough big props too. He said Derek is a champion and says he always knows what to do to win during a finale.

Be watching VH1 as they may post video footage a little later.

Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Numerology Forecast For The Semi-Finals And Finals

As regulars to PureDWTS might know, we usually do an Astrology feature at the end of the season for Finals. Donamadrina added her “Numerology” predictions to the mix last season. Well, today we got to tweeting and talking about it privately and decided to break them up into their own posts for what she was finding regarding last week’s elimination and how the numbers lined up for Val and Elizabeth. Fascinating stuff as you will soon see. Special Note before reading futher: Last season, Donamadrina NAILED it with her Numerology predictions which you can compare and take a look at here. Ok, so below is Donamadrina with her new Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Numerology predictions for the Semi-Finals and Finals…

Donamadrina: Numerology is not an exact science. Just as in Astrology, where you have to consider more than just one’s Sun Sign, so it is in Numerology where you have to consider more than just one’s Life Path number. Also, when looking at our Dancing With The Stars couples, we have to remember that their lives are more than just Dancing With The Stars, and the scoring results. For example, in Week 8 (November 4), both Amber and Derek had challenging numbers, so I was thinking, sadly, it just might be their last week. However they were declared SAFE. So what did their numbers refer to? From what we knew of their private lives, both were challenged health-wise, Amber with her recurring knee injury and Derek with his recurring back injury.

In another example, on November 11th, each couple had a partner with “Extra Sunny” numbers. So who had to go? From the challenging numbers, either Corbin or Amber should have been eliminated, right? However, they were both declared SAFE. We know Amber was still “challenged” by her knee injury, not sure what Corbin’s challenge was. Each had the voting numbers to stay around though. Elizabeth earned a 30 for her last dance (Extra Sunny), but… Read more..

Show Details Released For Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Semi-Finals

Below are more details about the Dancing With The Stars Season 17 semi-finals from Broadway World via ABC. Note how Mandy Moore will be choreographing the opening number again. Kerli and Noah Guthrie will perform as well (I love “Sexy and I Know It”).

Maksim Chmerkovskiy returns to the ballroom and for the first time participates as guest judge alongside Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli on “Dancing with the Stars” first ever plugged/unplugged night MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET).

Not a stranger to expressing his strong opinion, Maksim is sure to unleash his unique brand of critique during the intense semi-final competition. The night will begin with a spectacular opening number by Emmy Nominated choreographer Mandy Moore, featuring the pro dancers. The couples then must rise to a new challenge and perform to two different versions of the same song. In the first round of competition, the couples will perform either a Jazz, Paso Doble, Cha Cha or Tango routine to an original or “plugged” version of their selected song. In round two of competition, the couples will perform either a Viennese Waltz, Argentine Tango or Rumba routine to an acoustic or “unplugged” version of that same song. Special musical guests will accompany the unplugged performances including singer Kerli, who will perform a version of Fall Out Boy’s “My Song Knows (Light em up),” and Youtube sensation Noah Guthrie who will perform his popular cover of “Sexy & I Know It.” At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination.

PureDWTS 17 Week 9 Guest Poem: “Traversing The Trio Dance-Landscape”!

Some people are so creative and that is PureDWTS guest poet Lois!!! Below is her new poem for Dancing With The Stars Season 17 Week 9!!

TRAVERSING THE TRIO DANCE-SCAPE!

The ballroom was a’flutter, the dancers holding on to each other tight
TRAVERSING THE TRIO DANCE-SCAPE, a popular twist for the night

Each trio was unique, their dances filled with much excitement galore
TRAVERSING THE TRIO DANCE-SCAPE, many surprises were in store

Corbin, Karina, and Witney were all Jazzed up with dramatic flying feet
Their trio dance deemed perfection, they accomplished a daring feat

Gleb, Liz, and Val were colorful, dancing to a flashy, classy Salsa beat
Their moves were dashing, they were smashing, with snap happy feet

Mark, Derek, and Amber created a Salsa filled with razzle-dazzle fun
Flying across the floor, she, in yellow, shining like a ball of fiery sun

Jack, Cheryl, and Sharna a wild, jungle saga making Tarzan proud
Like Tony the Tiger, flouncing, bouncing, it stirred the ballroom crowd

Peta, Bill, and Emma mixed up a Salsa with gals, confections in pink
It was a candy-licious, dandy-licious, “store”house, don’t ya all think

Leah, Tony, and Henry made a parody of the judges, an energetic jive
Bruno, Carrie Ann, and Len loved their imitations, gave a high five

TRAVERSING THE TRIO DANCE-SCAPE, everyone gave many cheers
Wouldn’t we love to see this style of dance for many, many more years

Corbin and Karina Waltzed with elegance, exquisite lines were flowing
Jack and Cheryl Waltzed, gliding beautifully as if they were glowing

Tony and Leah displayed an Argentine Tango with fierce dancing feet
She shone in a brilliant, ruby red dress, so beautiful, sharp and neat

Derek, Amber’s Quickstep, drumming to a dance band beat just right
Val, Liz performing a marriage, a Viennese Waltz, she in gown of white

Bill, Emma hung out their Charleston fun, filling the basket with the beat
Dancing across the floor, it was a yak-yakkity, a happity ballroom treat

Who would have to say good-bye to their ballroom family and friends
Val and Elizabeth were announced, it was sad their dancing time ends

TRAVERSING THE TRIO DANCE-SCAPE, the night in the memory book
Next week, Week Ten, we will return to the ballroom for another look!

Written By Lois A Troutman, November 13, 2013

TRAVERSING THE TRIO DANCE-SCAPE, it was a spectacular night!
The ballroom shook with applause, it was a DANCE-SCAPE of delight!
