DWTS Season 16, Week 4 – Who Got the Boot? (SPOILERS)

Wow…I’m so glad that I spent time voting for that big pro dance that Val won. Or Zendaya’s fans won. 😀  All it amounted to was a 20 second bumper into the commercial?? Yeah, I think that TPTB had something else planned and punted to the pro dance idea. Brilynn Rakes – very inspiring, beautiful dance.   The rest…will be covered in the Cheesecake. 🙂

Dang, how about that – I was right on target with the bottom two but a fail with the couple to be eliminated. Victor and Lisa in the bottom two, with Lisa being eliminated.  How did we all do??

Heidi: Said Victor and Lisa would be the bottom two with Victor going home. Close, but no cigar. 🙂

Courtney: Said Lisa and Victor in the bottom two with Lisa going home.

Vogue:  Said DL and Lisa would be in the bottom two, with Lisa going home.

Winner??  Courtney was 100% right, but Brilynn Rakes won the night for being an inspiration and getting to dance with her favorite dancer on National TV. I got weepy right along with Derek. 🙂

DWTS Season 16, Week 4 – Dancing by the Numbers

Oy veh, ABC. This twitter stuff is just CRAP. I put that right in my opener in hopes they see it and realize that they are quickly turning me off this show. 🙂

Seriously, saving Lisa for the end and claiming she just then decided to dance?? Tom called it – “Sure hope she’s dancing, otherwise we have a lot of time to fill.” The constant, craven need for buzz, hype, younger viewers – it’s just become so distasteful. You are looking desperate, DWTS, and that looks good on NO ONE.

Interestingly, the only dances I found to be really memorable last night were Jacoby and Andy. And, after last night, I become more convinced that Jacoby will win this unless Zendaya’s fan’s parents let them stay up past 9 pm to vote. Because those children are CRAZY on Twitter – egged on by Zendaya and Val themselves.  Courtney and I both got trolled on twitter by the charming little dears. Sorry, not terribly impressed with Zendaya’s Samba (it was a Samba, right?), nor was I terribly impressed with Kellie’s rumba – both were good dances, but I guess I was expecting more.  I was concerned that Kellie wouldn’t be able to give the Rumba her all in front of her hubby while he was playing the song they got married to – not to mention losing a day and a half of rehearsal. It was a very good dance, it just didn’t touch me the way I hoped. Perhaps my expectations were too high. That said…I’ve already forgotten Aly’s Contemporary.

It’s entirely possible that  my entire view of the show last night could be colored by the fact that the Man Behind the Curtain is wearing neon and jumping up and down, waving his arms.  This show bored me. The cardinal sin of TV shows. Maybe I will like it better tomorrow.

On the up side, there will be lots of dancing in the results show.  🙂   Guess what, ABC?? I LOVE DANCING. Read more..

Kyle Massey And Louis Van Amstel Review Dancing With The Stars Season 16 Week 4

Dancing With The Stars alum Kyle Massey joined the Good Morning America cast to review the dances from last night. He talks of why Carrie Ann got so emotional last night during Andy and Sharna’s dance. It’s hard not to get caught up in journeys and what each of the dancers go through. Dancing With The Stars is about so much more than “dancing”. He thought D.L.’s dance was legendary. He may be old school Disney, but, he thought Zendaya was amazing. He loves how Val is “edgy” like Maks. When talking about Aly and her gymnastic moves and if they were unfair to use last night, Kyle thinks it’s fair. Each couple should use the strengths they have to give them that competitive edge. He tried to use everything he could to stand out when he was on the show. You can watch this segment HERE.

Also, Louis Van Amstel has posted his review of the night at Good Morning America. Below is a take. I have to disagree with what he said about Derek and Kellie’s scoring. These two deserved nines and tens in my opinion. I agree with what he wrote about Gleb and Lisa though. Lisa needs to cancel everything and concentrate only on Dancing With The Stars. Note too that he’s picked Lisa to go home tonight….

Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough’s Rumba. This was a beautiful video package. It’s absolutely clear that Kellie is a great dancer, has a gorgeous body and is so involved in what she does, but from a Rumba point of view, I would have liked to see more flexibility and continuous motion and more Rumba timing and choreography. Sometimes it’s hard when it’s personally so sentimental to be involved in the dance. The scores are good, although I expected all eights because the judges were a little more critical of Kellie than in other weeks. I’d agree with three eights and nonetheless she’s still in the top three.

Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Savchenko’s Cha Cha. I feel so sorry for Lisa. I hope she feels better. It’s such a big message to all the celebs, that when you sign up for “DWTS,” there’s very little time for anything else. The show is exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. On the good side, Lisa looks hot and sexy, but I wish she would dance like it, too. She’s unfortunately more off time than on. What a shame. I want Lisa to do so well. If she stays in this competition she needs to work on musicality and straightening her legs. The judges are right that it looked under rehearsed. Yes, this routine started with a full-on lift. My advice to Lisa is to cancel all other jobs and appearances and totally focus on dancing. The scores are fair.

My top three for tonight are Zendaya, Aly and then Kellie. After that, Jacoby and Ingo. The rest are in the middle of the pack. I think Lisa and Gleb are going home! Many celebs do so many other jobs and appearances besides “DWTS” during the season, which is very dangerous.

The couples who focus 100 percent on dancing are the ones who make it all the way, most of the time. If you’re under rehearsed due to other jobs, then you run a risk that things will go bad and the voters at home won’t always save you, and rightly so.

You can read Louis’ full review at Good Morning America. So, what do you think? Was Louis fair this time?

Stay tuned for more. Heidi’s new Numbers post is coming soon!!! 😉 x

PureDWTS Season 16 Week 4 Media After The Dance (Videos)

What a show once again last night!! Let’s get right to the media afterwards with On The Red Carpet with George Pennacchio. He gets their reaction on their dances. He also asks on their weaknesses….

First up, Derek and Kellie. Derek starts out the interview doing some Michael Jackson beats and then he sings. They are happy about last night’s dance. Then they get serious and Kellie talks of what last night’s dance meant to her. Of her weaknesses, Derek says it’s her nerves which he hopes he can work on.

George praises Val for his youth appropriate choreography. Val knows Zendaya is pretty…but, he wants more for her when she dances like passion which is appropriate for any age versus romance. They are happy with the judges comments and are glad they understand what they are trying to do. Val says Zendaya’s weakness is himself. He feels it’s up to him to come up with good choreography and present her right. She’s just happy she’s learning and growing….and she’s having a good time.

I can’t get the video to work for Jacoby and Karina at this time. Hopefully, you can?

George tells Andy he’s never seen Carrie Ann break down the way she did last night. Andy is happy. If this was their last dance, he is glad they did something so “meaningful”. It meant so much. When asked on Andy’s weaknesses, Sharna says it’s his technique. At the top of his form is the performance factor and the love for it all.

Kym is so proud of Ingo!! She loved how his wife cried after their dance. They are glad the judges liked their dance. Ingo talks of some of the imperfections he had, but, he loved their dance and how much it meant to him and his wife. Ingo says his biggest weaknesses is Read more..

DWTS 16, Week 4 – Power Rankings

Well first of all, I’m happy to report that for once, “best year of your life” week was NOT the night of a thousand rumbas!!! It was, instead, the night of a thousand (ok, THREE) Viennese waltzes, and this episode of Sesame Street was brought to you by the awkward men’s Viennese waltz solo 😛 OH! And be still my heart…did Carrie Ann actually cop to being remiss in her lift policing the past few weeks???? And then promptly make herself look rather like a douchebagette, when sternly chastising Gleb for carrying a sick Lisa down the stairs? Yeah…that happened.  But let’s just get down to the nitty gritty, shall we?

1 & 2.) TIE: Kellie & Derek and Zendaya & Val – Both ladies had strong showings tonight, yet both of them seemed to have minor technical issues that kept them from being 100% on-point.  Loved Kellie & Derek’s rumba  – very simple, intimate feel, and Kellie does have some fantastic legs.  But I do agree with whatever judge said that she seemed a little bit “clipped” tonight – I don’t know if it was the segueing from very slow, fluid movements to rather fast, crisp ones, but things got a bit jerky from time to time.  As for Zendaya – I love watching that girl dance, and she’s obviously right at home on the floor…just the right amount of attitude to really carry off Beyonce, and the dance chops to back it up.  But once again, she seems to be having trouble with those long legs – Len was right, she was a bit too bent in the knee, and needed to really straighten those legs out in order to get more of a bounce.  She also seemed to get a bit off-balance in some of the faster turns, which I noticed in her Viennese waltz & jive as well.  Long legs are great to look at – but when it comes to ballroom & Latin, sometimes the ladies with shorter legs have it a bit easier, just because it’s easier to move quickly & crisply when you have less to extend.  Also a bit of a warning to Val – there seemed to be an awfully high proportion of jazz-y, hip-hoppy type-moves in that samba.  I know it’s tempting to really go wild when you’ve got a Beyonce song (and a partner that can do those kinds of moves), but if this continues week to week, you’re going to be butting heads with Len A LOT.  Overall, I think I was probably more entertained by Zendaya’s dance, but I was more touched emotionally by Kellie’s.  Enjoyed both, and I doubt either of these ladies are going anywhere.

3.) Jacoby & Karina – I still think this guy is gonna walk away with the trophy when all’s said and done – and the fact that he actually handled his first ballroom dance quite masterfully just makes me believe it anymore.  I was mentally preparing myself for a trainwreck – crummy frame, messy feet, missed beats, etc.  But I was actually impressed at how well Jacoby held his frame – his neck & shoulders looked great, almost hyperextended, although he did stick his butt out just a tiny bit…which I’m sure Karina’s going to chastise him for later, because ballroom law dictates that the man never slouches down to accommodate a shorter lady – it’s the lady’s job to rise up to the man’s height 🙂 But this guy never missed a turn, stretched those arms out nice & wide, and best of all – he was totally uninhibited, and really gave that solo his all.  And can I just add that his little guy is beyond precious??? 😀 And one other thing I have really begun to appreciate about Jacoby’s dancing? He’s there for Karina EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.  No fumbling to get turns straight, no near-misses with tricks, no missing getting into frame – the dude is on-point. Read more..

DWTS16: How are our New Pros doing so far?

Well, we’ve completed 3 weeks of Season 16, and I think it’s time to look at our new pros, and hear some comments from you. I figured that now is a good time to start, since we still have all 3 of the new pros, I’m not sure how long they’ll last. So, I think it’s Interim Report time!

To review, we’ll see the Ladies First….

LINDSAY ARNOLD is our youngest at 19, and came to us from this past summer’s SYTYCD. She’s paired with Victor Ortiz, a boxer.
Victor and Lindsay’s Week 1 Foxtrot They earned a 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18 for Week 1.
Victor and Lindsay’s Week 2 Jive They earned a 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18, and 36 for the first two weeks. They landed in the bottom two in the first Results show.
Victor and Lindsay’s Week 3 Contemporary They earned an 8, 7, 8 for a total of 23 for week 3.
They earned 59 points for the first 3 weeks of competition.

SHARNA BURGESS came to us first in the Troupe, where honestly, I didn’t notice her much, other than as a brunette among a sea of blonde female dancers. She’s paired with Andy Dick, a comedian.
Andy and Sharna’s Week 1 Foxtrot They earned a 6, 5, 6 for 17 points for week 1.
Andy and Sharna’s Week 2 Jazz They earned a 7, 6, 7 for a total of 20 points, and 37 for the first 2 weeks. They were placed In Jeopardy in the first Results show.
Andy and Sharna’s Week 3 Cha Cha Cha They earned a 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18 points for week 3. They were placed in the Bottom 2 in the Results show.
They earned 55 points for the first 3 weeks of competition.

GLEB SAVCHENKO is originally from Russia, but came to us from Australia, where he was a professional dancer on DWTS Australia last year. He is paired with Lisa Vanderpump, a Real Housewife and restauranteur.
Lisa and Gleb’s Week 1 Foxtrot They earned a 6, 6, 6 for a total of 18 points for week 1.
Lisa and Gleb’s Week 2 Jive They earned a 6, 6, 6 for 18 points for week 2 and a total of 36 for the first two weeks. They were in the bottom 2 in the Results show.
Lisa and Gleb’s Week 3 Viennese Waltz They earned a 7, 7, 7 for a total of 21 points.
They earned 57 points for the first 3 weeks of competition.

Lisa Vanderpump Plans On Staying With Dancing With The Stars As Long As She Can

Lisa Vanderpump writes all about last week for how she and Gleb travelled to New York City. As you know from previous postings, they were on LIVE With Kelly And Michael. She also attended the Bravo Upfronts Party. However, they kept up with rehearsals and travelled back to Los Angeles afterwards. She’s also been fighting a bug and one day she fainted during rehearsals as many of you have been speaking about in comments. Below is more including some thoughts on their dance tonight.

By the time Thursday rehearsals rolled around – let’s just I was exhausted and everything felt off. Gleb and I were rehearsing our cha cha and suddenly I just blacked out.

I was in shock when I woke up. I fainted only once before in my life. The doctor found that I had a viral infection with fever and swollen glands. And between trying to fight that and all of the stress on my body from running around, I ended up with low blood pressure and a rapid heart rate, which is why I fainted.

I am still fighting the bug and feeling under the weather but I am staying in the game as long as they say I can. And I will give it my best!

The cha cha is a very difficult dance but this is a style of dance, which Gleb excels and I want to make him proud. Wish us luck! As always, we will need it!

GOOD LUCK, Lisa and Gleb!! You can do it!! More at People.com.

ADDING: Gleb was on the Ryan Seacrest this morning. You can listen here. Check out how he’s going to be on an episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Thanks to Lori for the heads up!

Dancing With The Stars Season 16 Week 4 Rehearsal Parking Lot Coverage Before Showtime!

Awww, it’s Dance Monday and how about if we get started with some parking lot coverage from yesterday?!! Things start to warm up around the 2:29 minute mark when Len and Andy arrive. Note how Andy talks of how he is happier now without alcohol. He also speaks about his dance tonight and how it’s for his daughter. It will be “very special”.

You can also see some pictures of the cast pictured in the parking lot over the weekend at Zimbio Pictures and the Daily Mail. Lots of smiles and some serious faces too.

DWTS Season 16, Week 3 – The Cheesecake Awards!!

A whole bunch of weird stuff this week. Just weird… occasionally stupid…and sometimes charming.

The “He’s SO one of us!” Award: Tom Bergeron for saying, on the performance night, “Welcome to Prom Night…or ‘It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time’ Night!!”

Heidi: Tom is getting less and less good at hiding his opinion when he thinks something is a stupid idea. 🙂 And when he’s right, he’s right. I’m quite sure this wasn’t his only crack about Prom night.

Courtney: Tom has obviously been spending too much time lurking at Pure, because he took the words right out of my mouth 😀 But unfortunately for him, he is still on the show’s payroll, and we are not…so this is probably the best we’re going to get out of him, with regards to how derp-y the show has gotten.  But alas, I felt vindicated nonetheless 🙂

Professional Dancer LOL of the Performance Show: Gleb, for “You look like a dancer when you don’t move.”

Heidi: Surely I wasn’t the only one who not only LOLed at that one, but also developed a new appreciation for the newest pretty face on this show. 🙂

Courtney: It actually sounded a lot like something Maks would have said to Kirstie…only Gleb sounded so much more melodic when he said it 😛

Heidi: You know, they say tone is everything. 🙂 Read more..

Dancing with the Stars Season 16, Week 4 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Well, it may be personal stories week (ack!) but it appears to also be “Let’s separate the wheat from the chaff” week as well. 🙂 Of the top four (Zen, Kellie, Aly and Jacoby), Jacoby is the only one who could be in trouble. We’ll see, but I have a feeling he’ll surprise us. I also worry a bit about Kellie missing a day and a half of rehearsal, but Derek seems pretty Zen about it….pardon the pun. 🙂 Zendaya is definitely the one with the biggest advantage – seems to me that Samba would be right in her wheelhouse. I could be wrong. Lisa and Cha Cha sounds like trouble, as does DL and Foxtrot. Andy…I’m praying for him. Ingo and Sean will probably be “fine”. I keep forgetting they are on the show, which is not a good sign.

I’ve taken a stab at putting them in the order that I would have them dance. Let’s see if I can channel TPTB this week. I started off pretty good last week and then it all went in the toilet. 🙂

ETA: Only off by one on DL and Cheryl. 🙂

ETA2: If sheery is right about Karina’s page, then I was right on with that one. 🙂

ETA3: Sean dancing first, eh?? That’s a pretty good spot for him. I was off by three spots. But he got a good spot versus the crap spot I had him in.

ETA4: My record isn’t so good this week…so far. 🙂

ETA5: Well, I wasn’t far off on Victor, but they are going with the DRAMA of Lisa fainting a lot harder than I expected them to – especially since I don’t see her story as compelling or her cha cha as likely to be good. Interesting. I moved Zendaya to 4th, but frankly I can’t imagine they’d put her in that crappy of a spot – unless of course her twitter wins the previous two weeks have solidified her standing. But still. Then again, I can’t imagine any of the remaining dancers except Ingo in the 4th spot.

Vogue here with ETA6: Mark and Aly will be dancing to “Titanium” tonight which you can read about here. Oh man, I love this song. She’s got a good one. Read more..
