PureDWTS Season 21, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and When?

Court here, filling in for Heidi who is on holiday in New Orleans 🙂 There are two dances for the couples next week. Below is what we know so far. Stay tuned for updates and be sure to see week 1’s interviews in this post to get more hints for what’s coming up for Week 2!

ETA: Vogue here. Mark and Derek held a periscope today. Derek said he and Bindi have a Waltz & he thinks a Tango for next week. Mark has a Salsa and a Rumba with Alexa. Thanks to Cath for the heads up. You can watch the Periscope at this link.

ETA2: Sharna Burgess has revealed in her new blog that she and Nick have a Jive and a Foxtrot this week. ~ Vogue

ETA3: Tamar said on “The Real” today she and Val have a Salsa and Charleston next week.

ETA4: One of Andy and Allison’s dances is the Jive.

ETA5: Andy and Allison’s other dance is Contemporary.

ETA6: From @DWTS360, Alek and Lindsay have a Jazz and a Quickstep. ADDING: Also, Julz Tocker on Afterbuzz thought Keo and Chaka had a Salsa and a Foxtrot but, wasn’t sure.

ETA7: Per this pap video, Victor & Karina have jive (Monday) and rumba (Tuesday). Thank you to the many people on Twitter that tweeted it to me… – Court

ETA8: Vogue back! According to this Young Hollywood interview, one of Louis and Paula’s dances is a Rumba.

ETA9: There has been a change in dances since Tamar’s comment on The Real. She and Val are dancing a Cha Cha instead of a salsa.

ETA10: Apparently Bindi’s “Hometown Glory” dance is a tango (song below), per E!. A commenter says that Paula’s rumba is to “Midnight Train to Georgia”, and that Louis’ dance is a tango, but so far all I can find is people saying they vaguely remember her MAYBE saying it in a podcast, but nobody can remember exactly when or where…so take it with a grain of salt.

Alek and Lindsay – Jazz and Quickstep

Alexa and Mark – Salsa and Rumba
1-855-234-5602

Andy and Allison – Jive and Contemporary

1-855-234-5604

Carlos and Witney – Cha Cha and Fox Trot
1-855-234-5605

Chaka and Keo – Foxtrot? and Salsa?
1-855-234-5606

Gary and Anna –
1-855-234-5607

Hayes and Emma –
1-855-234-5608

PureDWTS Season 21, Week 1 – Power Rankings

At the risk of making a pun at Victor’s expense, after tonight – I believe we have a horse race on our hands, kids 🙂 Literally, seems like 5 (possibly 6) couples gunning hard for the top spot…and I don’t think it’s going to be an easy win for anyone.  Kinda nice to not have a firmly predetermined feel for who’s gonna win after the first night.

Other odd & assorted thoughts and observations from this evening: Bruno appears to be the “new Len”, as he’s now the nitpicking stickler and not nearly as wild and flamboyant as he once was.  Bit of a buzzkill, and not sure it feels natural 🙁 Giving quickstep as a week 1 dance is kind of a crock – so Tamar and Paula, you both have my sympathy. Between Paula, Gary, and Hayes’ annoying brother Nash – I think Tom and the Muppets in the editing booth are going to be kept on their toes all season. And ho-lee-crap, Peanut Rademacher, aka the coolest celeb offspring ever to grace the DWTS ballroom, was back tonight after a 2.5 year hiatus…sitting in row 2, stage right, snacking on something while sitting next to Ingo…nonplussed as ever about the show he was watching. 😎 Read more..

Paula Deen Just Wants To Give Hope On Dancing With The Stars

Louis Van Amstel is loving Paula Deen’s cooking and Paula wants to “just give hope” on Dancing With The Stars. Cute interview from Entertainment Tonight.

“I just want to bring hope, especially to older women in the middle part of their life,” Deen told ET on Friday. “You can have a lot of obstacles come your way that are unexpected. I just want to help women realize that they can overcome.”

PureDWTS Season 21 Preliminary POLL: Which Couple is Your Favorite? Who Will Win?

It’s that time again – to see what all of you made of what you saw on GMA this morning and try to predict who will win this season, as well as share with us who your favorite couple is, based on first impressions.  DISCLAIMER: if you are just here to bitch & moan about “we haven’t even seen them dance yet!!!”, you are going to get deleted.  Had about enough of snooty, holier-than-thou comments lately, and some of us are just here to have fun. You can go be unfun over there…the rest of us are having a party over here. 🙂

Be sure to let us know in the comments how you voted and why!

PureDWTS Season 21 POLL: Who Do You Think the New Judge Will Be?

DWTSGossip dropped this interesting tidbit yesterday:

newjudge

Which seems to point to Len finally bowing out as head judge, and some new blood being brought in to round out the panel.  All signs seem to point to a male judge (not sure I could handle a panel of Carrie Ann “I Score with My Vagina, Not My Brain” Inaba, Bruno the Flamboyant, and Julianne, who can be a bit hit-or-miss), and a lot of folks seem to think it’s Tony – likely because he expressed interest in the position in an interview recently. Others are throwing out Louis & Maks’ names, and yet others are thinking it’s someone different altogether – I fall in the latter, as my gut is telling me that DWTS might borrow from another country’s version of the show and tap Jean Marc Genereaux from Danse avec les Stars in France (and DWTSGossip did mention that he/she had heard that DWTS France “would be involved in some way”).  I think there’s also a possibility that DWTS may try to “borrow” one of the ballroom choreographers from SYTYCD (Jean Marc or Tony Meredith fit the bill), or we might see Corky’s name thrown back in the mix. I do think the new judge will likely be someone who specializes in ballroom, though, as Len’s shoes are big ones to fill in terms of ballroom experience.

So assuming all of this is true – who do you guys think the new judge might be, and why? Tell us in the poll and the comments!

Dancing with the Stars Season 21 – PRO WATCH!!

Here we are again!! It’s about that time of year, folks.

And, as usual, the pros that I don’t want to be in, are already in. Or in Derek’s case….mostly in. 🙂  He’s been telling fans in Meet and Greets that he’s likely going to be on but doesn’t want to confirm in case something happens to change that. DWTSGossip says that he did indeed say yes to this season – but as she correctly pointed out, he’s said no before and it turned into a yes. But, this is Derek’s life right now (many, MANY irons in the fire) – he’s not doing it for PR, he just doesn’t know what’s going to happen. Drives me crazy. 🙂  I’ll be writing a blog soon on PureDerekHough.com about my Meet and Greet and how he answered a particular question I asked him that bodes very well for his future.

Val has also said he’ll be back and, as reigning champ, that’s no surprise. He also doesn’t seem to have the options that Derek does. I also will be curious to see how much they pimp and manipulate for him and his partner, now that he actually has a MBT. This could be one of the more interesting things about this season – if their behavior toward him changes, now that it’s mission accomplished. Someone please explain to me why Sharna or Emma don’t get the pimpage treatment?? Their social media accounts can’t touch the men’s, but still.

What about Mark? I expect him back as it helps his music career, and now his studio, for him to be on the show. I think it’s about time for him to have another shot at the MBT again – it’s not like he’s been handed ringers the past couple seasons (unlike some), he’s just been surprised and fortunate, like Derek has in the past. But I haven’t seen any talk from him on the matter. Read more..

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. And I'm cynical and jaded too. But I do love DWTS. :-)

The Dancing Poetry Corner – DWTS Season 20 “Road To The Finals” Review And “Speaking of Specials”

Speaking of Specials

On May 16, 2015, ABC treated us to a Special, The Road To The Finals. Said Special served as a season review for the three Finalists:

Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy
Riker Lynch and Allison Holker
Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess

The Special resembled a comprehensive “Trip Down Memory Lane”. Dances were reviewed, scrutinized, and favorites of the pairs were chosen. The Judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Julianne Hough, Bruno Tonoili, joined the “Trip Down Memory Lane”. They shared their thoughts on each pair, their strengths, and overall commentary of their performances.

A “Trip Down Memory Lane” took us to the early days of each finalist. People and places who were influential in making them what they are today shared their feelings.

Noah was described as a tough little boy, kids being kids. His father Andy and Mother Bebe provided insight into their son’s life. His newly-proposed fiancĂŠ Jamie Boyd chimed in, as well as William Shatner who gave his heartfelt words, “Noah teaches us to take what life offered. Not only to deal with it but make it a plus.”

Noah was touched by the September 11, 2001, destruction of The World Trade Center. That was the impetus that led him to the Armed Services. His life was turned upside down by his amputations. Eventually, his life was turned downside up again. He desired by sheer will and determination to be an example to his three children.

Pivotal moments included attempting to use an artificial arm. However, he nixed the idea. Sharna turned the Argentine Tango into a thing of beauty without the arm. Other moments featured were the Mirror Dance and the electrifying Paso Doble with the Troupe.

People and places in Riker’s life shared pivotal moments. His Father Mark, his Mother Stormie, Brothers Rocky and Ross spoke. Early on in life Riker loved performing with his brothers and sister. They could often be found in the basement rocking the house! The Mother moved with the children to Los Angeles, leaving the Father behind. It was hard on Riker to do that. A family friend Michael Vartan pontificated on how Riker’s head had not gotten big yet.

Pivotal dances showcased were the dynamic, beast of a Jack Sparrow Paso Doble. And the Trio Jazz dance with Brittany Cherry. Riker says hands down that was the most fun he had on the show!

People and places in Rumer’s life were her high-powered family. Mother Demi Moore, Father Bruce Willis, and Sisters Scout and Tallulah related how they were always together on various movie sets. Demi said her first thought was that Rumer not do the show. Demi related how low Rumer’s self-esteem could be in the past. But, Demi says it has been beautiful to watch Rumer’s confidence far outweighs her fears. It has everything to do with who she is. A friend of Rumer’s, Tye Blue, and Glenn Close and Annie Starke remarked how proud of her they are.

Rumer and Val agreed their Week One Foxtrot was their favorite dance. Rumer said she felt so beautiful doing that dance. She felt she had become a dancer.

A few fan questions were answered by each pair. A special treat was dancing by Alan Bersten, Jenna Johnson, Brittany Cherry, Mark Ballas, Lindsay Arnold and Keo during the show.

Tom Bergeron mentioned the exciting Freestyles coming on the first night, Monday of the Finale shows. Peta Murgatroyd, Derek Hough, Emma Slater, and Tony Dovolani related a pair can live and die by a Freestyle. They have to be big, special and leave a lasting impression. The Freestyle can win the competition.

Peta, Emma, Tony, Derek, Witney Carson, Keo Motsepe, Kym Johnson, Mark Ballas, and Artem Chigvintsev had some parting thoughts. They discussed what it took to prove to be a winner. It is necessary to move people, to go to new heights of emotion, to be incredibly powerful!

The Golden Mirror Ball Trophy will be awarded Tuesday night, May 19, at 11 PM. Season 20, Tenth Anniversary of the show will be in the history books. Who will create a new page in that book by winning the Trophy? As Emma said it is closer than it has ever been. Don’t miss a second of the two-night Finale!

Speaking of Specials:

As this season meandered on, I thought of many Dancing Specials ABC could offer to us. How cool would it be to perhaps have one Special in between each season! It would keep our dancing appetites whetted and help ease the major withdrawal we go through as the seasons end. I thought of:

A pro competition between the astounding pros we watch every week on the shows.

A pro exhibition of those we see every week. And certainly former pros could get in on the exhibition or competition.

A star competition between the stars who have danced on the shows. Two stars paired up to compete with other stars.

A stars exhibition, the stars paired up to bring us a Special.

Exhibition dancing or competitions from amateur dancers across the United States.

Exhibition dancing or competitions of the amazingly talented dancing children across the United States.

A Senior Citizen competition or exhibition.

The list could go on, Perhaps you could think of your own ideas to add to the list.

A wish of mine that is echoed by countless others I have seen is for ABC to release the seasons on DVD. Come on ABC, how about it?!

Another thought came to me today. How about:

Dancing With The Stars – The Movie – A Feature Film! Of course starring the pros from the show! I am sure some genius writer could come up with a concept and pen a Blockbuster!

Please stay tuned for more from me this week. And, I have some ideas to keep my work on this site going between seasons.

To be continued……………….

Len Goodman’s Thoughts On The Final Three Of Dancing With The Stars Season 20

Be sure to see USA Today! They have a special preview of the final three couples of Dancing With The Stars Season 20 where Len Goodman highlights each couple’s strengths.

The mirrorball trophy is up for grabs as Dancing with the Stars’ final three couples take the floor Monday to compete in the ABC dance competition (8 p.m. ET/PT).

After last week’s surprise elimination of Olympian Nastia Liukin and five-time pro champ Derek Hough, it’s hard to guess who will be crowned Season 20 winners Tuesday.

Judge Len Goodman places Willis at the top of his leader board going into the finale, but says the best dancer doesn’t always win. “It’s anyone’s to win and anyone’s to lose now,” he says.

Louis Van Amstel Discusses The Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Finale And More

Louis Van Amstel was a guest on Good day Utah. He gives dancing tips and also talks about the Dancing With The Stars Season 20 Finale. He loves Noah, but, thinks Rumer will win. I don’t agree with what he said on Mark and Derek. I’ll take their freestyles any any TIME! Thanks to Edwina for sending.

PureDWTS 10th Anniversary Special – Who Do You Hope to See Back?

After much speculation (and a lot of questions!) we now know that the 10th Anniversary Special is taping this coming Tuesday, April 21, and will air on April 28  May 7 (or May 14, depending on who you ask).  What we aren’t so positive on is who will be returning to dance – Deep Throat has confirmed that Kelly & Alfonso will be participating, and thanks to Claire for the heads-up on this interesting post to Emmitt’s charity auction. So who else might we see? And who do we Pure girls want to see? Read on…

ETA1: Ok, got some new info that clarifies the format of the anniversary special a bit.  Apparently the list of returning celebs is MASSIVE; HOWEVER – not everyone returning is going to be performing individually.  Most of them are going to be performing in groups, and they’re doing brand new dances.  For example – a bunch of the NFL players are going to be performing together (squeeeee!!!) and so far, it’s definitely going to be Emmitt, Kurt Warner, Jacoby, and Donald…and there may be more 😀 Not gonna lie – about crashed my car when I got that text from Deep Throat.  I would guess that their respective pros are going to be performing with them. Now with that knowledge under our belts, I’m guessing that Kristi, Katherine (yes, I know she’s pregnant, but she’s on the list), Chelsea, and Sadie may be performing as a group with Mark.  As far as Deep Throat knows right now, the only couples dancing individually are Kelly & Val, Alfonso & Witney, and Meryl & Maks.

ETA2: Guess I need to clarify a few things so that this post does not become a royal pain in my ass 🙂 First: I HAVE INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, FACEBOOK, ETC. TOO.  If Melissa & Tony confirm they’re in, I will see it, and I will get around to posting it WHEN I’M NO LONGER ASLEEP.  Repeatedly tweeting me and commenting here will not make it go any faster.  Second: I mentioned above that the list of returning celebs is HUGE.  The list below isn’t comprehensive, it was just what DT could remember off the top of his/her head.  There is NO USE in getting bent outta shape about your favorite not being included (yet) – there is definitely more that what we have here.  BREATHE. Three: some of you have tweeted me with some pretty flimsy findings that supposedly confirm that so-and-so is in or whatnot.  Unless a celeb states “I’m going to be on the anniversary special” or I get confirmation from Deep Throat, they’re not going on the “confirmed” list.  I added a new section for “random chatter” where I might post things like that, if I find them relevant.  Fourth: Don’t be that annoying person that continually DM’s myself, Heidi, Vogue, or John begging to know if [insert celeb or pro here] is coming back for the special.  All we know right now is posted here, and we’ll share more if we hear more.  Fifth: hearing conflicting reports about when the special is airing – it’s either the 7th or 14th.  At this point, all I care is that it’s NOT THIS WEEK…

ETA3: More names confirmed for the big NFL players group dance.  Also: Anna will be performing in it, so she is back.

ETA4: Per Deep Throat, 3 of Derek’s former partners and 3 of Mark’s former partners are all dancing together (with Derek & Mark) in a “bromance”-themed dance.  Sadie may have an individual dance.

ETA5: In yet another scheduling shakeup, Anniversary Special will now air next Tuesday, Apr. 28; first results show is pushed to the following Tuesday, May 5.  Single elim in week 7; double elim moved to week 8. Discuss.

Confirmed for 10th Anniversary Special:

Kelly Monaco & Val (season 15 All-Stars, 3rd place) – doing their paso doble and/or their surfer flamenco
Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney (season 19 champions) – doing their salsa
Meryl Davis & Maks (season 18 champions) – some individual dance
Emmitt Smith (season 3 champion) – NFL player group dance
Jacoby Jones (season 16, 3rd place) – NFL player group dance
Kurt Warner (season 11, 5th place) – NFL player group dance
Donald Driver (season 14 champion) – NFL player group dance
Jerry Rice (season 2 runner-up) – NFL player group dance
Michael Irvin (season 9, 7th place) – NFL player group dance
Hines Ward (season 12 champion) – NFL player group dance
Chelsea Kane (season 12, 3rd place) – Derek/Mark “bromance” group dance
Kristi Yamaguchi (season 6 champion) – Derek/Mark “bromance” group dance
Katherine Jenkins (season 14 runner-up) – Derek/Mark “bromance” group dance
Sadie Robertson (season 19 runner-up) – individual dance (?)
Maria Menounos (season 14, 4th place) – Derek/Mark “bromance” group dance
Amber Riley (season 16 champion) – Derek/Mark “bromance” group dance
Amy Purdy (season 18 runner-up) – Derek/Mark “bromance” group dance
Chelsie Hightower – not sure who she’s dancing with or what they’re doing, but she confirmed she’ll be back
Anna Trebunskaya – dancing in the NFL players group dance (and possibly others)
Melissa Rycroft & Tony (season 8, 3rd place; season 15 All-Stars champions) – Tony confirmed on Instagram; I’m guessing they’re doing an individual dance

Confirmed as not involved:

Shawn Johnson (season 8 champion, season 15 All-Stars runner-up) – knee injury
Zendaya (season 16 runner-up) – had other commitments in NYC, per her mom

Random chatter – take with a grain of salt:

Bill Engvall – tweeted this the other day – see Emma’s response further down
Margaret Cho – could be her in the background of this Instagram pic posted by Allison
Janel Parrishwill be at the show – but unclear if she’s actually dancing or will just be in the audience Read more..
