DWTS Conrad Green Talks About The Emmy Nominations, Plans To Push Limits In New Season

Hey Guys! Be sure you check Pure Derek Hough when you get a chance. Miss Heidi has kept us informed on all things ‘Derek Hough’ this past week one of which includes a visit to a children’s hospital in Utah with his father Bruce.

Also, Heidi has posted an article via the Tolucan Times she found with Dancing With The Stars executive producer Conrad Green talking about Dancing With The Stars and the effort that goes into it all. He also mentions who should be nominated for an Emmy this year. He gives special props to Derek and the Macy’s Stars of Dance “Defying Gravity” dance (I couldn’t agree more with everything Conrad wrote! That dance was beyond brilliant!) and director Alex Rudzinski for his “extraordinary work” plus the technical categories in “Lighting Direction, Video Control, Camerawork, Costumes, Makeup, Music, etc.

Conrad also gives a hint of what’s in store for Dancing With The Stars Season 17. Below is a take where he mentions “pushing the limits”.

What’s in store for DWTS when it returns to ABC for Season 17 this fall? ABC has already announced that they will be combining the performance shows and results shows into one entertainment-packed night on Mondays, “which we will make compelling and push the limits of what we do,” Green promises. Until then he hopes there will be Emmy recognition for the outstanding reality-competition show that has been a vanguard of top level production values for live performance television.

All this and much more in this post at Pure Derek Hough.

Note: Emmy nominations take place July 18th!

Heidi: While I continually complain about the manipulation involved in the show (and occasionally pick on the muppet-like cameramen), I do have to give Conrad and the gang props for the ability to put on a very flashy live show every week for 10 weeks. When you think about some of the dances that have been done on the show, the choreographers can’t do it alone. They describe a concept, but the production staff has to pull it off. Derek is probably the only pro who goes in depth on camera angles, lighting and the music – but they clearly work with him. THEY are the ones who actually built Derek’s revolving room and he couldn’t have pulled that dance off with out them.  Not only does Derek deserve the choreography Emmy, but DWTS deserves one for set design and camera work on that one. Possibly direction too. Hard to say. But if DWTS and Derek don’t come out of this Emmy season with statues, there is no justice in TV land.

Jason Derulo And Emeli Sande To Perform On DWTS, Twitter Voting Details For Week 9, and More

ABC MediaNet has posted a new press release announcing the performers for next week which will include Jason Derulo and Emeli Sande!! Both singers will be performing their new singles. Note too how the Macy’s Stars Of Dance segment will feature Derek Hough and Jaimie Goodwin (Yay!)!!! Also released are some dance details as well as details for how our twitter votes will decide the dances for Week 9 (is there a fix here? If so, let us know?). More below and can someone explain to me what an “Afro-Jazz” is? 😯

“Episode 1608 & 1608A” – Six remaining couples take to the dance floor, MONDAY, MAY 6 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC. For the first time this season, each couple will perform two routines in an effort to impress the judges and earn America’s votes. In the first round, the couples will perform a traditional ballroom dance in a style that they’ve not yet done. In the second round, the couples will dance as part of a trio, featuring an eliminated pro or troupe member. In addition, viewers will be called to action on Twitter to choose new dance styles for each couple for the following week of competition. The new styles will include, Afro-Jazz, Disco, Flamenco, Hip-hop, Lindyhop and Charleston.

On TUESDAY, MAY 7, one couple will be eliminated on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by singer Jason DeRulo, who will perform his current single, “The Other Side,”as well as Emeli Sande, who will perform her hit, “Next to Me,” and her new single, “Heaven.” The show will also feature a spectacular opening number choreographed by Jason Gilkison and featuring the pro and troupe dancers. In addition, “Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its final installment of the season, featuring Derek Hough and Jaimie Goodwin. Paying homage to a Fred Astaire classic — but with a modern twist — this mind-bending routine will take place in a rotating room in yet another first for “Dancing with the Stars” and live television.

Gearing Up For Two Special Nights Of Entertainment On Dancing With The Stars (Teasers, Video)

The Semi-finals are going to be extra special on Dancing With The Stars this week …especially if you are a Michael Jackson fan! Be ready on Monday for the show to kick off with a special pro performance which will include a medley of two songs from Michael Jackson’s “Bad25” album. Also, The Wanted and Paula Abdul will also be performing on the results show. There will also be a special AT&T performance and a special performance with Derek Hough, Allison Holker, and company. Here are some more details on both nights of Dancing With The Stars from Zap2It. After the quote you can read some more teasers. 😉

“Episode 1509 & 1509A” – We’ll kick off the semi-finals of “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars,” MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) with a stunning pro performance to a medley of two iconic songs from “BAD25,” the album released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s legendary “Bad” album. Each of the remaining five couples will dance to a classic song from the album. The show will also feature three special dance performances, each sampling a song from the 13-track bonus disc from “BAD25.” To continue the celebration ABC will air “Michael Jackson: BAD25,” a documentary directed by Spike Lee, offering Michael Jackson fans across the country a rare look at the man who changed the music world forever (November 22 at 9:30 p.m., ET). Also on Monday night, each couple will dance a dance style they have not yet danced to a theme which was chosen for them by another couple on last week’s Results Show.

On “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars — The Results Show,” TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET), the UK’s new boyband sensation, The Wanted, will perform a medley of their current single “I Found You” and their biggest hit, “Glad You Came.” Legendary performer and world famous choreographer Paula Abdul returns to the ballroom to perform in our final “Macy’s Stars of Dance” with a groundbreaking number. This piece will be an amazing interactive performance featuring some outside dancers as well as our own pros, Mark Ballas, Chelsie Hightower, Sonny Fredie Pederson, Henry Byalikov, Sharna Burgess and Emma Slater. In our final “AT&T Spotlight Performance,” we will feature 21-year old Parris Goebel. Parris grew up in New Zealand and always knew she loved to dance, even though she was a self-described “terrible dancer.” Instead of taking classes, she taught herself how to dance, developing a new unique hip-hop style called “polyswagg,” and went on to become one of the hottest choreographers in the dance world. She has choreographed for Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliot, and is currently choreographing numbers for the new Michael Jackson Cirque De Soleil show in Las Vegas. She will hit the “DWTS” ballroom on Tuesday night with her dance crew from New Zealand, The ReQuest Crew, for an unforgettable performance. Also, “DWTS” professional dancer Derek Hough will perform a number that he has created that will feature four talented female dancers — Allison Holker, Melanie Moore, Jessica Lee Keller and Katherine McCormick. And before the night’s end, two more couples will be eliminated.

Gearing us up even more, below are some fun tweets from some of the performers and those involved with putting these two shows together….

https://twitter.com/oliverleiber/status/267778977349902336

Speaking of Paula and Michael Jackson and in case you didn’t know, at 18, then a Laker Girl, Paula was brought in to direct and choreograph the Jacksons’ Victory Tour. She shared these special words on Michael at the “The Is It” premiere….

“I got to see entertainment at its finest and be a part of something so big and I learned so much from Michael,” she said.

“He was so dedicated,” Paula added later. “It was truly remarkable to watch and it taught me as a choreographer that it’s OK to make people work really hard because the end result is going to be fantastic. Michael never gave anything but fantastic.”

For more on her performance on Dancing With The Stars this week, Paula posted the video below at her facebook with this quote: “Here’s a hint about my big surprise on Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday, November 20th!. Love, Paula”

Hmmm?

Here’s to the shows this week, Everyone! It’s going to be fun in more ways than one!xxx

What The Celebrities Didn’t Expect To Learn On DWTS, What They’ve Taught The Pros, And More

George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet is back and this time he asks the couples what they didn’t expect to learn or know dancing a second time on Dancing With The Stars up to this point. He also asks the pros what their celebrities have taught them this season. Good questions!! He also gets their reactions on learning about next week’s dances.

Let’s start out with Cheryl and Emmitt! Emmitt says he didn’t know there would be so much “emotional charge” when one of the couples were eliminated. There is a “gut wrenching” feeling and he didn’t prepare for it. Cheryl says Emmitt has taught her about “life”, “growing” and “maturing”. For next weeks dances, they have to buckle down, tighten up, and just get better.

Apolo says (in an overwhelming way) he wasn’t expecting to know about “Karina Smirnoff” and how she makes you give it your all ….160%!!! Karina says Apolo has taught her to always have a positive outlook…even in the worst of conditions such as when they are in the elimination spot or if they have a fight. “It’s all good”! At the end, they get silly talking of next week’s dances, she has lots of really good ideas, and Karina calls him her “baby elephant”.

Val says Kelly has taught him composure, how to be a professional, to be honest, to have good timing, and how to carry yourself better. As for not know what she’d be in for, Kelly didn’t realize she’d love dancing again so much, the work, and being around Val for long hours and that they’d click. On their next dances, Val gets nervous when first learning what they have and the song, but, he believes in Kelly and they can do it.

Tony and Melissa! Tony can’t believe he and Melissa have made it this far. It’s been a “dream come true”. They have no idea what will happen for next week’s “Caveman Hustle”. On Melissa, Tony says she has this way of teaching him ‘to enjoy every second’, to ‘savor every moment’, and that ‘their families are the most important part’. On what she didn’t think she’d learn by dancing a second time, Melissa says she has learned to savor the experience more (the “small things”). They also didn’t expect to get this far. The eliminations have also been difficult.

For a media round-up on Derek and Shawn visit Pure Derek Hough as our Miss Heidi will have everything on them up as soon as she can.

So, here’s to next week, Everyone!!! Anything can happen! Are you ready? Being a huge Michael Jackson fan, I am going to love this upcoming week the most I think. 🙂

Saying Good-Bye To Kirstie Alley And Gilles Marini On Dancing With The Stars (Interviews)

Has there ever been two more gracious, classy exits on Dancing With The Stars than with Kirstie Alley and Gilles Marini? There have been many. I know. But, wow, Gilles really touched on me last night when he thanked not only the show, but, his wife and then there were the kind words he said about Peta too. This is from the ET Online interview for an example….

“This woman was in my life 24/7 and she never gave up anything, and she always wanted me to look amazing and she pushed me to places that I never knew I would go when it comes down to these performances,” he retold ET of his talk with his partner.

“I felt safe at all times,” he praised. “I was always worried because this is my personality [and] I wanted to do so much more, but I always felt safe with her. I had the best time.”

Another thing I loved about Gilles was his love for this Country and being a new citizen! He made a statement through out the season to never take our freedoms for granted.

Kirstie!! Once again (as she did before in the first season she danced), she reminded me of how important it is to stay positive, not to take life so seriously, and to LAUGH!! She also reminded me that growing old doesn’t have to be and that we can dance until we die. I will forever be a fan of this woman and her beautiful, young, passionate, energetic, fun spirit and I hope we see her entertaining the world forever.

With all that said, here are their interviews after they were eliminated last night. Lots of laughs and some tears too…

Stay tuned! We’ll add their Good Morning America interview as soon as we can!

UPDATE: And HERE is their Good Morning America interview. It’s ‘too early in the morning’ for them, but, note how George tries to ask Maks about his movie career, but, Maks doesn’t reveal anything except to say he’s looking forward to the opportunities.

PureDWTS 15 Week 8 – The Couples Reactions After Monday Night’s Dance (Interviews)

What a fun night, but, I am NOT looking forward to TWO eliminations tonight…especially if there is a “surprise” elimination, but, more on that in depth later with Heidi in her new Number’s Post. For now, let’s see what the couples had to say on their dances last night with On The Red Carpet.

First up, Tony and Melissa. Their big smiles say it all. Tony says last night was “insane”. Melissa’s goal was just to soak it all up and have the time of her life. Tony praises how hard Melissa has worked. He also speaks of how he doesn’t like to break the rules. The energy with the Veterans at the show helped them to fly.

Emmitt was so honored to dance with two top notch dancers in Kym and Cheryl. He talks of the Veterans and what the show is all about. The Veterans are the true role models so they can be there to entertain. Cheryl says Emmitt worked so hard. Emmitt says he loved how Kym and Cheryl showcased him and who he is. If they get to come back, they will keep working hard.

Kirstie says she’s a “crazy optimist”. At the same time, she’s learned you “have to move on” when you have to. Maks talks of how he let Kirstie decide on the choreography with the Trio dance with Tristan. A little girl named “Tori” joins them for the interview and rates them with a “10”. So cute.

Karina talks of her injuries this past week, but, she’s much better and a “warrior”. If they make it to next week for Michael Jackson’s “Bad” Tribute, they have ideas that are “beyond spectacular”. Apolo says they will “freeze” the dance floor. Karina loves Apolo’s “Grease” look (so, did I! 😀 ).

The audience will also be joined by members of several branches of the Armed Forces, including two former Marines, William Franco Vasquez and Nick Jones Jr., who will be special guests on an episode of ABC’s hit comedy “The Middle” on November 14.

“Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars the Results Show” will feature outstanding musical performances from Kylie Minogue and Ne-Yo, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET). Global pop icon Minogue will perform “Locomotion” alongside the renowned “DWTS” band, accompanied by pro dancers Kym Johnson and Tristan MacManus. Also taking the stage is three-time Grammy Award-winning artist Ne-Yo, who will perform his current hit single, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself),” from his newest album, “R.E.D,” in stores now. “R.E.D,” an acronym for Realizing Every Dream, is Ne-Yo’s fifth studio album, through which he continues to embrace dance-pop while maintaining his connection to R&B. Before two couples are eliminated from the show, there will also be a special performance from pro dancers Anna Trebunskaya and Valentin Chmerkovisky, alongside special guests Tiler Peck and Robert Fairchild, principal dancers with the New York Ballet.

The 4th “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance of the season comes from the amazing cast of Disney’s smash new Broadway musical, “Newsies,” which is breaking box office records and winning Tony Awards for the best songs and best dancing on Broadway. Eighteen of some of the most talented performers audiences have ever seen will be joining the ballroom on Tuesday night, performing the thrilling “Seize the Day” in yet another must-see “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance.

The couples will perform one new Ballroom and one new Latin dance to determine which three couples will land in the finals.

On TUESDAY, MAY 15 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET), special musical guests Carrie Underwood and Alanis Morissette will hit the stage with unforgettable performances on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show.” Award winning Country superstar Carrie Underwood is set to perform “Good Girl,” the first single off her brand new album, “Blown Away.” Her exciting performance will be accompanied by Tristan Macmanus, Sharna Burgess, Henry Byalikov and Emma Slater. Multi-platinum, Grammy ® Award-winning artist Alanis Morissette will hit the stage with a world premiere performance of her new single, “Guardian,” from her upcoming album, “Havoc and Bright Lights.” Her performance will be accompanied by Blake McGrath and Tyne Stecklein.

During Tuesday night’s results show we will also have an incredible performance from the upcoming Warner Bros Pictures feature release, “Rock of Ages.” The electrifying performance will feature two-time former “Dancing with the Stars” champion Julianne Hough and her co-star, actor/singer Diego Boneta. Directed by Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”), New Line Cinema’s adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” hit theaters June 15th. The movie musical stars Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Akerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, with Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.

In the final “Macy’s Stars of Dance” performance this season, two yet to be named “DWTS” pros will perform a riveting Samba to “End of Time.” All season long, fans have voted on the performance song, style, costumes and pro dancers for the season’s Macy’s Design-a-Dance.

Also and in case you haven’t heard, Dancing With The Stars has been renewed for another season. YAY!!

Chris Brown, A Dick Clark Tribute, and More To Entertain On Dancing With The Stars

ABC Media Net has released details for next week’s dances and judging. Details below as well as who will be singing and dancing in the pro numbers.

“Episode 1408 & 1408A” – The competition heats up as the remaining six couples hit the ballroom with two rounds of competitive dance performances, a ballroom dance and the Trio dance — both of which will be a style that they’ve not yet performed, MONDAY, MAY 7 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC. During the Trio dance, a “DWTS” first, each couple will be allowed to add an extra professional dancer to their routine. The second dancer will be chosen from a pool of eliminated pros and members of The Troupe. In addition to their regular criteria for judging dance routines, the judges will pay extra attention to how well each celebrity is showcased in the performance with an extra dancer in the mix.

Grammy Award winner Chris Brown takes to the stage with an incredible performance of his hit song “Turn Up the Music,” on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show,” TUESDAY, MAY 8 (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on ABC. “Turn Up the Music,” written and produced by The Underdogs and Fuego, is Brown’s first single off his eagerly anticipated new album, “Fortune,” which releases May 8th.

Also during Tuesday night’s show, Dmitry Chaplin and Anya Garnis will perform a special routine from the “Dancing with the Stars Live in Las Vegas Show” to “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” “Macy’s Stars of Dance” will be an “American Bandstand” tribute to the legendary Dick Clark. The performance will be a huge dance number featuring pro dancers Karina Smirnoff, Tony Dovolani and the Troupe, choreographed by Jamal Sims and Wendy Johnson, and will pay homage to “American Bandstand,” representing four decades of the popular music show, with many of the original “Bandstand” regulars joining us in the audience.

By Tuesday evening’s end, two couples will be eliminated, as determined by a combination of the judges’ scores and viewers’ votes on dances performed on Monday’s performance show.

Wow, “A Dick Clark” Tribute…sounds really cool!! I loved American Bandstand. I use to watch it just for the dancing every week.
