DWTS14 Maks Chmerkovskiy Gives Injury Details, Information On Classical Week, And More

Maks has written a new blog for TV Guide. He catches us up to speed on his foot injury. He has the green light to dance, but, he has Val with him just in case he can’t handle it. More below including some info on he and Melissa’s next dances.

First, I want to get you up to speed on my injury. Yes, I had an MRI on Tuesday on my foot. I have a lot of pain in my joints and ankle area. It’s not pleasant and I was hoping that there’s something that I could do to get rid of the pain. My doctor, who’s one of the best foot specialists in the world, warned me that I might not be able to continue if there’s a chance my injury could get worse. Luckily, I got the results back yesterday and he said I could continue, but I have to rest it as much as I can. It was completely not what I thought it was. He said, “You should continue, but don’t use your foot too much.” I’m like, “It’s not Sitting with the Stars!” In all seriousness, I am trying to rest it and take it day by day because I don’t want it to get worse. My doctor understands the profession and he is a little more in depth when it comes to treatment for those who don’t have the opportunity to stop what they’re doing. Right now, I’m hoping I will feel better by Monday.

That’s really all I can say about it right now. The show will focus on it a little bit more on Monday. I don’t want to milk stuff like this. If production decides to put in cameras in my MRI office, I can’t do anything about that. I think with these types of activities, injuries are normal. It’s nothing to highlight. Unfortunately, if I tell producers that I might be able to continue, that’s why they have to be present, so the audience can see what’s going on.

Val is here, so I’m gonna have Val come in to our rehearsals until I see how I feel. I’m happy I have the green light right now, but I’m a little worried. The range of motion that we do with our feet is so great. It’s not just walking, which is painful in and of itself. There’s also a machine called a bone simulator that’s supposed to expedite the process. I think if the pain doesn’t go away by Monday, then I’m gonna get a shot. The problem is, with this type of aggravation in the bone, the shot might make it worse. We’ll see how it is.

Next week is Classical Week and we also have a team dance. Our dance is the Argentine tango, so it’ll be a clashing of styles to the classical music. Even though Val’s here, it’s still my vision for the dance. I don’t want it to be a two-person thing. But to be honest, having another person just sitting here helps. I’m very stubborn. I don’t use outside help because nobody knows Melissa better than me and someone else might make it worse. But it is useful to have another set of eyes there and Val is very, very good. It’s all about maintenance. I want to maintain the direction we’re going in and what we’re doing.

You can read the full blog at TV Guide. Let’s hope all goes well for these two!! Being both Maks and Melissa have been injured, it has to be taking it’s toll. Both are such fighters though, so, here’s hoping for their best dances to come.

UPDATE: WLOS ABC 13 has a new interview up with Maks. You can listen to it HERE. He gets up really in the morning to talk about “Propel Zero Just Dance Off” battle taking place in Los Angeles this weekend. He also discusses the challenge to come up with new dances every week for Dancing With The Stars. He says Melissa is one of the best partners he’s ever had and lots more. They ask some cool questions.

I'm a fashion and music nut....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. Derek Hough (one of my favorite dancers) said at a recent Get Healthy event that ‘dancing’ is an outward expression of what is going on inside you. Wishing Our Injured Dancers The Best On Tonight’s Episode Of Dancing With The Stars

Melissa Gilbert has written a new blog for People. She updates us on her medical condition. So far, so good….no headache yet. She’s planning to dance tonight even though she’s been having a hard time getting her mojo back. Details below…

Recommendation by my neurosurgeon, who made a house call the next day, was to get bed rest, no Tuesday show, anti-inflammatories, ice, gentle massage and a stern warning: If I got a headache within the following week, I must stop dancing and get an MRI immediately.

Thankfully, no headache has appeared yet. Though my neck is still stiff, I have been rehearsing with Maks. In fact, I suggested that we end our dance tonight with the move that took us out last week. We are doing just that.

I must admit though, I’m having a hard time getting my sexy, dancer mojo back. I’m being a bit self-protective, a bit tentative and I’m finding it hard to just let go and have fun. So, that is my goal this week – to let go and have fun.

Yes, I was hurt. Yes, it was scary but, that was then … this is now … It’s time to believe again!

Let’s hope all goes well for Melissa….same with Maria Menounos with her rib and feet issues. Keep your thoughts with William Levy as well who suffered an ankle injury yesterday.

Just Wanted to let u know that I injured my right ankle pretty bad during rehearsal.. MRI tomorrow. I’ll let u all know .. Love u all

DWTS14 Melissa Gilbert: “Nobody puts Halfpint in the corner!”

Such good news! Melissa Gilbert has returned to rehearsals today. She joked about her injury on Twitter. Below is more from ABC.

“Nobody puts Halfpint in the corner!” she tweeted to her actor friend Craig Bierko, referencing her character’s nickname from “Little House on the Prairie.”

Later, she tweeted that she was “very happy” to be back dancing with professional partner Maksim Chmerkovkiy.

Gilbert and Chmerkovskiy hurt themselves on Monday following an aggressive paso doble. Chmerkovskiy injured his elbow and pulled his groin; Gilbert suffered a mild concussion and whiplash and was taken to the hospital after feeling dizzy and nauseous backstage.

Gilbert was well enough to watch the show Tuesday night. In response to Sherri Shepherd’s elimination, she tweeted that she was “truly stunned.” “If they can go any of us is fair game!” she added. “This makes my head hurt even more…”

According to People.com, Maks has his protective hat on. Here is more for how Maks is reevaluating his ballroom tactics….

“I think we are coming back,” he says. “I’m pretty sure. It’s not up to me, it’s up to her, [but] I haven’t heard talks of not coming back. Although, if she wakes up tomorrow and continues to have a headache, I won’t let her in the studio.”

The week’s events do have the dance pro reevaluating his ballroom tactics, questioning if it’s worth it to put so much effort into the dances and risk injuries, only to be eliminated so quickly like favorite Sherri Shepherd, who got the boot on Tuesday.

“We owe it to our fans to give them a reason to vote for us,” he says. “I’ve always been very vocal about how you have to earn your stripes. But I’m not sure if this is the right strategy this season, because it’s clearly not appreciated.”

Even though Chmerkovskiy has “a problem with easy choreography,” he says, “Honestly, at this point, I’m not really sure if it’s worth killing yourself and trying to put on a show.”

I agree! They need to be really careful. Let’s hope all goes well!!

UPDATE: Maks has penned a new blog at TV Guide on Melissa’s condition, their rehearsals, and more. Below is a take. More at the link.

First things first, Melissa is doing well. She’s quite an inspiration. It’s not like her injury was a crazy trauma, but it’s definitely scary and not something you want to see on the show. This is not The Hunger Games. It’s Dancing with the Stars. It’s not without struggle and adversity, but it’s not a blood sport. We love to see people fall down and get up metaphorically speaking, not literally. Watching the playback made me think, “Am I doing the right thing? Am I pushing her too hard?” There was a lot of debating within myself. But Melissa and I spoke afterward on how to proceed and where we’re gonna go. We’re gonna try to take this week easier. It goes against everything I believe in and my process, but I’ve matured enough to understand that sometimes, certain things are not worth it. This is one of those moments where it’s not worth the drama and not worth putting her through it.

I think the show amplified her injury. Having said that, Melissa’s injury wasn’t really blown out of proportion, but we had to tell viewers what happened, why she got carried out with an oxygen mask and why she’s not here. The picture is dramatic, so we had to comment. Sometimes it becomes overdramatic afterward when people start talking, but she did almost pass out. She did take my leg out with her head so fast that she didn’t even remember that it happened. I didn’t even know it happened! It tells you how unexpected it was. At the same time, it was a very hard hit. It takes a lot to take my leg out. Her neck is very sore. Those are facts. When you hear that, you can take it as you wish and then people start writing things and talking about it. Honestly, I would take her falling over backwards and hitting her head over what happened. What happened is more dangerous. She has a fused vertebrae in her neck area. Her doctor came to her house and said that she should not attempt to be a hero.

Rehearsals are going well. We are taking it easier. I’m going at her pace. If I see any sign of any kind of anything, I’m stopping. She’s like, “Let’s continue.” I’m like, “No, we’re stopping.” I think we’ll be fine on Monday. More than anything, I really respect how cool we are as friends. We’re very cool together. I was speaking to someone and they said, “She loves you. She talks about you all the time. She really likes hanging out with you.” This is a person who has nothing to do with us. I’m not saying this to toot my horn or something, but I thought it was very sweet. And I love spending time with her. I really do feel that we’re not fake with each other. We’re have each other’s best interests in mind. I’m trying to be the supportive partner and someone who has her back. That means that I alter my views on what the dance should be. As long as she’s happy and smiling and healthy, I’m good.

Melissa Gilbert Rushed to Hospital During Broadcast Of Dancing With The Stars

Please keep your thoughts and prayers with Melissa Gilbert tonight. After her dance with Maks on Dancing With The Stars, she was rushed to the hospital. More below from The Hollywood Reporter….

Host Tom Bergeron acknowledged Gilbert’s injury at the end of the live taping, but ABC reps on site would not elaborate, only saying that a full update would be given during Tuesday’s episode.

Backstage, Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s fellow competitors helped piece together the events.

In the middle of Gilbert’s Paso Doble with Chmerkovskiy, which earned them a cumulative score of 22, she hit her head on the ballroom floor. And though she didn’t let on during the judges’ commentary, pro Karina Smirnoff told The Hollywood Reporter and other media reps that Gilbert started complaining of dizziness and of feeling lightheaded. She was so weakened, singer Gavin DeGraw carried her down from the stage’s elevated “red room” and out of the studio.

With about 20 minutes left in the episode, Gilbert was put on a stretcher and taken, by ambulance, to a hospital. Chmerkovskiy followed her.

Let’s hope she’s ok and we find out more soon.

Keep your thoughts with Maria Menounos too since she is battling injuries as well.

UPDATE: And here’s is a tweet from Melissa on her condition….

I’m alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of.

Melissa Gilbert Hopes To Rise To The Occasion Tonight On Dancing With The Stars

Melissa Gilbert has penned a new blog at People about learning the Quickstep for week 2 of Dancing With The Stars. She writes that “childbirth” was easier than learning the Quickstep, but, Maks believes in her and she’s hoping to rise to the occasion tonight and not disappoint him. More below and at the link.

Okay, stand with your feet together. Push your pelvis forward until your upper back lies back with your knees bent. Lift your head up and gracefully turn it to the left. Now jump around really, really fast … backwards … in three inch heels!

If it feels really unnatural and contradictory to all the rules of logic and science, you are doing the quickstep, my next challenge on Dancing with the Stars.

Who invented this? Where is he? Let me at him!

LOL! She’s funny. I hope they do well tonight!

Entertainment Tonight Goes Into Dancing With The Stars Rehearsals, Interviews Three Couples

Entertainment Tonight went into rehearsals to interview three of the couples….

First up, Melissa and Maks! Melissa tells them she didn’t know she’d feel stupid all the time when learning how to dance. Maks says Melissa is too hard on herself and she’s doing great. He loves how much she’s liking and enjoying it all. He loves watching her reactions to the results and being happy about it. She’s took some dance lessons when she was two and she’s disco danced in clubs, but, it was nothing like what she’s learning now. What’s really fascinating about this part of the interview is what she says about “going as far as they can go”.

Next, Anna and Jack! Jack says Anna is the greatest gift about his new gig on Dancing With The Stars. The most difficult thing is taking some steps forward and having some great days and then recovering from taking a step back when things fall apart a little bit. Anna likes that he’s a hard worker, self motivated, and musical.

Finally, Peta and Donald! Donald says everything is great and Peta is a perfectionist. Sometimes that hurts him, but, he’s glad she’s strict. His team mates have given him some advise. Peta likes that he’s willing to do whatever she wants.

You can take in the interviews in full below or at the link. Check out their dancing too. I think Maks and Melissa are looking especially good! Jack is going to be really entertainining in a “Broadway” kind of way. Not sure about Donald yet? I’m curious for your thoughts?

Kirstie Alley And Nancy Grace Give Dancing With The Stars Advice (Videos)

This is hilarious. In the first video from Extra, Kirstie Alley tells her thoughts on the cast for Dancing With The Stars Season 14. She loves how diverse and funny it is. She also tells of how Melissa came to watch her when she danced with Maks. She gives some advice to her and how to handle Maks since he can mess with one’s mind. Kirstie knows him best, doesn’t she? LOL!! She also has some advice for Maria…

Adding: And here’s Kirstie again on Access Hollywood with some more advice…

As for Nancy Grace, she was on The View today along with Sherri Shepherd and the gang. She had some advice for Sherri and Dancing With The Stars. She said, “Number one, show no fear”. Then she said, “Ignore all the haters!” Then third, “Have fun!” Great segment! You can see it here. More behind the scenes advice as well below (*cracking up)…
