Afterbuzz TV has brand new hosts again to review Dancing With The Stars Season 23. The hosts are Annika Michelle, Christine Alexis, and Justine DiVanna. Also, they are reviewing the show AFTER it airs on Monday nights. Not sure if you are interested, but, they weigh in on Night One below. Let us know what you think in comments. I know one thing…I’m not agreeing for what they said on Derek at all! *clueless*
Maks Chmerkovskiy is back with a new Dancing With The Stars blog at Entertainment Weekly. He’s excited to be back on the show as a dancer and to have Amber Rose as a partner. He can relate to her fans knowing “she’s not exactly what you think”. She’s “super nice”, she’s “awesome”, and he wants people to understand her (I’ve felt that many times too as a Madonna fan). Here is more…
She’s amazing. I know we have to say these things to give ourselves the chance to stay in the competition, you know, “We love each other! Everybody is super friendly!” But once in a while, everything you are supposed to say actually becomes a reality. She is super nice, and she’s a friend I hope to retain for as long as possible. She said herself just yesterday, “We’re gonna stick together.”
Amber is also a strong single mom, and she juggles a lot of things — there are a lot of opportunities coming her way right now. She’s been hustling since she was a teenager. I certainly can relate to becoming an adult at 14 or 15 years old and having to work and provide for the family. So in this competition, I want her to experience things she may have missed out on. Like, “Oh you’ve never been a princess? Let’s put you in a bedazzled freakin’ gown with 20,000 rhinestones on it.” (She walked and was like “Okay, I don’t like rhinestones or fringe.” I said, “Well, you signed up for the wrong show.” And then she put it on and said, “Oh my god this is amazing, I look amazing.”)
And I’m excited about this competition because of the type of person Amber is. She’s awesome, and I think her fans know that she’s not exactly what you think. I can relate to that. I want more people to understand her. And she did great last night! She said she blacked out, but at least we had the video to watch back. I’m hoping next week will be blackout free.
Maks also makes this statement on the protesters which I agree with….
That being said, there are a lot of people with a lot of opinions and they have the right to express them, but I don’t think this is the platform to do that. We celebrate everything but judgment and differences of opinion. We celebrate dance. And we limit our judgment of one another in the ballroom to “he did a bad heel lead” or “her frame sucks.”
I have a lot of beliefs, and I’m very strong in my opinions. I did not like what happened in Rio, and I was vocal about that, but it’s not the type of situation where everybody has to speak his or her mind. I mean we get it; s— went down, but we need to move on with life.
Ryan is a nice guy, and I really hope that he finds a way to let people know that. This is a good platform for that. I said the same thing about my partner Amber Rose. There’s a preconceived notion about who these people are based on some things that are in the media. DWTS allows for the opportunity to go and show people what else you want them to see. Then we’re able to know who you are aside from just the tabloids. That’s Ryan’s opportunity. Everyone is here for a reason, and I just want this season to go hiccup free from here on because to be honest, we really don’t have time for it. We have very late rehearsals and very early call times, so we just don’t have time for this stuff.
Lots more at Entertainment Weekly.
Carrie Ann Inaba Writes On DWTS Season 23 Night One -What Happened Behind The Scenes And The Performances
Carrie Ann Inaba has written her first blog of Dancing With The Stars Season 23. She writes of what it was like in those moments LIVE on the show when the two protesters rushed the stage. She is proud of how the crew handled the situation and no one was hurt. She also writes on the performances. Below is more from She Knows.
I knew that no one else was seeing these men, but I realized that they were up to no good. Our team quickly handled them and removed them from the ballroom. I cannot say for sure, but I believe the “hecklers” were wearing jackets over their “Lochte” shirts until he performed. Luckily, they got no airtime and everyone was safe. After they were removed, I looked up and saw a few women with the same shirts on. Derek Hough also saw them and pointed them out to security during the commercial break, and we had them removed as well.
Our show has a first-class security team, and we are all family. We take care of each other. I am grateful for our team, and I’m grateful no one was hurt. I felt bad for Lochte in that moment because I realized the Rio Olympics incident will always follow him, but it’s important for everyone to know that it’s not the DWTS judges’ job to judge other people — but only to judge performances. Lochte is just another contestant on our show and will only be critiqued for his performances on the ballroom dance floor. I hope that there is some solace and safety in that for him, and that he will be comfortable enough to remain on the show. It’s my hope he will work hard like everyone else and stay focused on the task at hand, which is to learn how to dance.
Now, let’s go back to focusing on the premiere episode
DWTS is a show that encourages people to congregate, sit on the sofa with their friends and family and enjoy some good entertainment! The premiere was more than just the “Lochte Incident.” We had some stellar performances by James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess, Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy, and Terra Jole and Sasha Farber. BabyFace Edmonds and Allison Holker — along with Vanilla Ice and Whitney Carlson, Marilu Henner and Derek Hough — gave good showings and impressed us all as well. We also got to know a few new folks who still have lots of time to improve.
The premiere was more exciting than anyone could have imagined, and the shining stars at the end of the night, Val and Laurie, really helped to lift the mood in the ballroom after what was a really uncomfortable situation. I think DWTS has a responsibility to be entertaining and to be a place for positivity. There is enough going on in the world right now that makes the DWTS ballroom a sacred space — a place where we try to keep it heartwarming and fun, inspiring and entertaining.

Two Men Storm The Stage After Ryan Lochte Dances On Dancing With The Stars, Details For What Happened
Wasn’t the incident last night on Dancing With The Stars scary? I felt so sorry for Ryan Lochte. Enough with the hate already. Anyway, Entertainment Weekly has details for what happened. KUDOS to security, the judges, the crew, and Derek Hough for the way they handled the incident.
Two men stormed the stage of the Dancing with the Stars premiere Monday to protest Ryan Lochte’s participation on the ABC show.
The men wore t-shirts that featured the Olympian’s name crossed out. A group of seven to eight people wearing the same shirt encouraged them from the audience just as judge Carrie Ann Inaba began to give her critique.
“Excuse me, excuse me,” shouted Inaba, as a bit of the commotion appeared on camera. While a stunned Lochte and his partner Cheryl Burke stood in silence, Tom Bergeron took the show to break.
That’s when the ballroom erupted. While most of the crowd shouted in support of Lochte — who previously copped to “over-exaggerating” a story about a robbery at gunpoint in Rio de Janerio this summer — Derek Hough rushed in from backstage in an attempt to quell the protesters who yelled “liar” to the swimmer. “You need to get your negativity out of here,” he shouted at the group of men and women, who can be seen in the Tweet vid below.
“This is my home and I was just so shocked that people would come here and be so negative,” Hough told PEOPLE. “This is a safe place for people to learn a new skill and seek redemption or start a new chapter in their life and that’s what Ryan is trying to do and I just felt so defensive that someone would try and ruin that for him and for everyone watching, so I took it upon myself to make sure they were escorted out. I wanted to protect my home.”
Several security guards, meanwhile, quickly grabbed the two men — one of whom fell back into Lochte, Burke, and Bergeron. The men were then handcuffed and taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department.

We plan to post the dances of Dancing With The Stars Season 23 Week 1 below as soon as we can. The videos will also work for International viewing. A special thanks to Idol Xfactor for recording. Stayed tuned and keep checking back for updates as the night progresses.
Here we are again folks! What kind of delightful surprises will we get tonight? I predict that Val’s ass will be kissed, Derek will be dissed, Maks will be Maks and point out that Derek is favored (see US Magazine) and Cheryl whip Ryan into shape. Anything else?? Oh yeah, I expect to fall in love with James Hinchcliffe. 🙂
Now that’s an opening number!! Very well done!! Love how they featured everyone at times – the big dogs are back, Val. 🙂
Marilu just kicked the Jive’s ass!! But her package was sooo touching and original. She made me a bit weepy, actually, she’s just so freakin’ happy!! Someone who loves the show and clearly adores Derek!! My kind of woman!!
Oh James…you cutie. That was a damn fine foxtrot!! And that color in the outfits looks amazing on both of them. Don’t think that it was four points ahead of Marilu…I sense some protecting going on. Cuz that’s BS, no matter how much I liked him. Read more..
