As always, Karina Smirnoff looks stunning….and even for bowling. This past weekend, she celebrated her 35th birthday with friend Maria Menounos at the Bowlmor Lanes in Tustin, California. You can view loads of beautiful photos of Karina and Maria in fine form at Getty Images. The Daily Mail also has a write up on this party. You can see the two of them bowling, playing basketball, blowing out birthday candles, and more.
Lots of Dancing With The Stars news on tap for today and what better way to start the day than seeing Karina Smirnoff? Last night, the dancing pro graced the Blue Carpet at the 2012 Do Something Awards at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. What a gorgeous dress. I love the back. What do you think? Other celebs to attend were Maria Menounos, Lea Michele, Kristen Bell, Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, and Bella Thorne to name a few. You can view loads of new photos at Zimbio Pictures. You can read on the night at Ace Showbiz.
As you might have read in a previous posting, Dancing With The Stars troupe member, Henry Byalikov has a dancing role in one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2012, “The Great Gatsby“. Henry also taught the leads Leonardo Di Caprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan how to dance for the movie. Below is a new interview he did for it on The Morning Show. They also go through his whole career so far full of major accomplishments. Check out how he’s been working on the new lead for “Strictly Ballroom: The Musical” as well. FASCINATING! A MUST SEE! And let’s hope he gets the new lead!! He’d be perfect!!
“The Great Gatsby” has a December 25th release date. I plan to see this, do you? I was a big fan of the first movie with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Below you can view the trailer. Thanks to @Elara38 for the help with this post!!
Another season, another cast…oh wait. Another season, with an old cast, of sorts. I am actually excited – didn’t think it was going to happen. I imagine the screaming will start shortly, however.
Anyway, tune in here at 10:30 pacific (1:30 eastern time) we’ll be updating as fast as we can and, of course, snarking as hard as we can. We will get snark out of Vogue if it’s the last thing we do. Come on, Vogue, you can do it!! If you want to see the announcement as it happens, I think you need to watch ABC.com
@ABCPublicity says on Twitter (will update if official page is different):
ETA 1: The general media is reporting this cast – let me know if I made any errors. They announced early and I was caught off guard.
ETA 2: After a moment to catch my breath…I’m digging this cast, with the huge exception of Bristol. And many people are going to have new partners, so they better ALL have new partners. If they stack it in Cheryl or Mark’s favor by giving them Gilles and Shawn, respectively?? I’ll be kinda pissed. Give Cheryl Drew since he’s been away for a while and put Mark back with Bristol. That said…can Shawn or Gilles win against the likes of Helio or Apolo?? I doubt it. Even without Julianne, those are two very likable dudes.
ETA 3: UPDATE From ABC Read more..
Thanks to Heidi for the heads up!! More cast rumors,…and this time from the NY Daily!!! And look below who they are listing to dance for the all star season! Who’s ready?
THE BIG GUNS are returning to “Dancing With the Stars.” According to sources, the hit ABC show will welcome back multiple winners and finalists for the 15th season — debuting this fall — which is being billed as the “2012 All-Star Cast.” The contestants include season two winner Drew Lachey and season nine winner Donny Osmond. Previous second-place finishers who have made the cut include Mel B, Mario Lopez, Joey Fatone, Kyle Massey and Gilles Marini.
But the most intriguing names on the list we received belong to a trio of beautiful women: Pamela Anderson, Maria Menounos and Stacy Keibler. The network officially will announce the lineup Friday. Reps for the lovely ladies did not return our request for comment and a rep for the show told us “we do not comment on casting rumors.”
So exciting! Let us know what you think in the comments section!!
Thanks to PureDWTS reader Nathan for letting us know on this tweet!!! As he and Court notified us on this in the night (Thanks Court to you as well!), “it appears as though Maria has let something rather significant slip” or is this just “too convenient”? Like Court also said, “Would she (Maria) really let the cat out of the bag just days before the announcement? But then again, David Arquette did it, & it ended up being true.” OR could their reunion have something to do with a new Docuseries Maria just landed a part in which you can read about HERE (thanks to Lori for this news!)? More speculation and details in the comments section including Miss Heidi’s and John’s thoughts.
This is getting that more interesting, isn’t it?!! Two more days and counting until the cast announcement, Guys!
My opinion: I like Maria, but, I’m not really wanting a repeat from last season. I’d like to see Derek dance with someone else. Penny for your thoughts?
All of the above/any combination of the above answers – 17 (Sorry guys, too many different combos to list them individually!)
Derek & Maria’s kiss – 1
William & that stupid running & sliding move in every single dance – 1 (Annoying, yes, but is it really a “controversy”, per se?)
Katherine’s “injury” – 1
Derek’s behavior – 1
Cheryl’s Emmy-worthy creativity *sarcasm* – 1
None – 1
Rock & Roll Week – 1
Overstating Maria’s injuries, ribs NOT broken…hurt, yes, but not broken – 1
William wearing the same shirt in many different colors – 1 (Again, it’s annoying, but is it really controversial?)
Dance marathon – 1
Courtney: Again, it looks like we have several different interpretations of the term “controversy” here. I guess the way I interpret it within the context of the show, a “controversy” is something that occured that caused a great deal of debate and dissenting opinions on the issue – but maybe some other people interpret it as something that just really bugged them personally. I guess I need to be a bit more specific in my explanation of next season’s awards, perhaps along with eliminating the write-in category Anywho! I think the results are about right on the money – I found the most prolonged, contentious, polarizing issue of the season was the question of whether or not William was getting unfairly favored by the judges and/or the TPTB, and just the judges being highly subjective in their scoring across the board. I don’t think we’ve ever had a precedent for a situation like the one that unfolded this past season – I can’t recall a time in a past season where the judges were so blatantly displaying favoritism towards a certain contestant. Granted, there is always some degree of subjectivity, and the judges do tend to pick favorites each season, but I don’t think we’ve seen it before to the degree that we did this season. As for Jaleel’s behavior, the dance duel, & Cheryl’s behavior – yes, they all generated a great deal of debate and polarity in opinions, but perhaps weren’t as prolonged as the William/judges controversy. As for the trio dance – I know some of you are probably balking at the notion of it being “controversial”, but I seem to recall quite a few debates about which couples would pick which pros and how it would be advantageous to some and a disadvantage for others, so there was at least a bit of controversy there. Especially on the topic of who would get Tristan
Vogue: I think this poll was spot on as well. As much as I loved William himself and his dancing too, the pimping was over the top. I was patient about it at first and could understand the interest in him being he was a new sexy Latin star to hit the Hollywood scene, but, the hype and the manipulation from the producers and the judges scoring and then Cheryl herself out of control took it’s toll on a great many of fans. Sadder yet, was that William himself could see it too and it wasn’t something he welcomed. I really admired his humbleness through out it all which made me a fan. I wish I could say the same for Cheryl. I’ve lost a lot of respect for her that I once had. I was also outraged with Jaleel’s behavior. I was so glad when he was finally picked to go.
Heidi: I think the top three were the only real controversies – and they were doozies. The rest? Nah. And the write ins?? Some people need a little reality check. Although I did snicker at the “emmy worthy creativity” one. Every season there is someone who is the judges favorite – but it’s usually someone who is the best dancer. Not this season. This season they had their favorite….and he was also pimped to high hell at every opportunity by the show itself. It was quite ridiculous. Now can we go to my favorite moment of the season? Carrie Ann’s mouth falling open when said controversial dude took THIRD place. Anyway, after a while it seemed to be a highly orchestrated dance (pardon the expression) between production and judges to make sure this guy went to the finals. Of course, they seemed determined to get Katherine there as well (and keep Donald away), but it was at a much higher level with Willy…and Katherine could really DANCE. Madness.

And of course her former partner was there, looking all fit and tanned. Oddly, Terrell Owens was there as well. Hmmm….
This pic was tweeted by Derek:
And these pics are from the Mail Online (UK) which had the charming headline: “Bend over! Derek Hough playfully spanks DWTS partner Maria Menounos on the bottom during beach tennis game” – be sure to click the link to see all the pictures and read their take on the day.
Side note: I found this little gem while searching for news – Per the Pueblo Chieftan:
Q: Is there anyone today who could become a dance team like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers? —Martin L., San Pedro, Calif.
A: “Derek and Julianne Hough,” says Adam Shankman, producer of Step Up Revolution (out July 27) and Julianne’s Rock of Ages director. The siblings first found success on Dancing With the Stars. “Both are movie stars in the making,” Shankman adds.
