DWTS Season 14, Week 2 – Who’s Dancing What…and when?

It’s the week that just might separate the men from the boys…pardon the expresssion. 🙂  The Jive and the Quickstep, two very fast dances when done properly.  People will need grace and frame and speed for the quickstep and quick feet and sharp flicks and kicks for the Jive. And if you’re Katherine, there will likely be polka dots and spats involved. Maybe Buddy Holly glasses or suspenders. 😉 Keep checking back, we’ll add information as we know it.

ETA: Someone is doing a Jive to Proud Mary – but it’s not Gavin. Courtney is guessing Sherri or Jaleel. I will forever associate Proud Mary with Nicole. 🙂 People are being tight lipped with the running order, although it’s possible it’s not firmed up yet. I would imagine it’s not easy with everyone being pretty good.

ETA 2: Gee, what a shock, William has the pimp spot. Sure do hope he does more than let Cheryl dance around him this time.

ETA 3: Not so much surprised about Sherri going 2nd (doubt it means much right now), but I am surprised that they’re putting a jive 2nd – if they were alternating jives & quicksteps, I would think she would be in an odd-numbered position.  So that means we’re going to have either back-to-back jives or back-to-back quicksteps at some point this evening.-Court-

ETA 4: Melissa going 3rd?? This is not a good plan, IMO.  And bummer for Jack. -Heidi

ETA 5: Roshon Going first. I would imagine Jaleel is going close to the pimp spot again.

Roshon and Chelsie – Quickstep – Dancing 1st
Voting # 1-800-868-3405

Sherri and Val – Jive – Dancing 2nd
Voting # 1-800-868-3406

Melissa and Maks – Quickstep – Dancing 3rd
Voting # 1-800-868-3407

Jack and Anna -Jive – Dancing 4th
Voting # 1-800-868-3402

Gavin and Karina – Jive
Voting # 1-800-868-3404

Katherine and Mark – Jive – Dancing 6th (Un-sourced rumor????)
Voting # 1-800-868-3410

Martina and Tony – Jive
Voting # 1-800-868-3409

Gladys and Tristan – Quickstep (Song: something by Phil Collins)
Voting # 1-800-868-3411

Jaleel and Kym – Jive
Voting # 1-800-868-3412

Maria and Derek – Quickstep – Dancing 8th (Maria “thinks”)
Voting # 1-800-868-3401

Donald and Peta – Quickstep – Dancing 10th
Voting # 1-800-868-3403

William and Cheryl -Quickstep – Dancing 12th
Voting # 1-800-868-3408

Frankly, I’m curious to see William, Roshon and Donald manage the quickstep. This dance may just tell the tale on each of them. I think Jaleel will kill it. Maria looks great on her quickstep, provided that jump that Derek seems to have stuck in there is not categorized as a lift by CAI – she’s just idiotic enough to pull that, since Maria is a beautiful girl instead of a hot guy, if you know what I mean. William could fall down during his quickstep and still get a 9 from her. Anyway, I think Melissa will come back and I think Martina will be fine, provided that Tony gives her something exciting. Gladys will be adorable again, but adorable only lasts for so long, so I hope she’s learning to dance. I have a good bit of faith in Tristan, but Gladys isn’t as young as she used to be. Katherine, with her experience, should be fine. Gavin – almost forgot about him again and that’s not a good sign – but I can’t imagine either he or Sherri pulling off a good Jive, but one of them will likely prove me wrong. We’ll see!!

Martina Navratilova And Tony Dovolani Make A Big Splash At The Grove And More News

Friday, Tony Dovolani and Dancing With The Stars partner Martina Navratilova made an appearance at The Grove to shop and do a new interview for Extra. According the Daily Mail, the tennis legend “looked delighted to be promoting her dancing stint”. You can view more pictures of Tony and Martina at the link and at Zimbio Pictures.

In another cool news bite on Martina, this past week The Tennis Channel named her as the 4th greatest tennis player of all time. Below are more details…

Roger Federer has been named the greatest player of all time by America’s Tennis Channel.

The television network’s “100 Greatest of All Time,” a five-night series, aired this week and culminated Friday.

Federer edged Rod Laver for the top spot. Rounding out the top 10 were Steffi Graf in third, followed by Martina Navratilova, Pete Sampras, Rafael Nadal, Bjorn Borg, Margaret Court, Chris Evert and Billie Jean King.

Stay tuned for another new interview coming soon with Tony. Dance Junkies TV will be interviewing him about Martina and more. Several of us submitted questions from Pure Dancing With The Stars which Stuart reports back that they asked. We’ll report on that new fun interview as soon as it’s posted. For now, here is a little promo….

ADDING: Below is a new interview with AARP!!! “Age is not a limit”!!

Martina Navratilova And Tony Dovolani Hoping For A Rebound On Dancing With The Stars Week Two

AARP has another great interview up with Martina. She dishes all about her and Tony’s first dance. Leading into week two, Martina says her body feels terrific. She and Tony have the Jive this week and so far she’s having no issues with it physically. Below is more, but, be sure to read the link for much more.

AARP: How many hours a day are you practicing?

Martina: Given how physical the dance is, we’re splitting up practice into two sessions a day — one in the morning and one in the evening. Total per day is around three to four hours. So far, I don’t feel like I’m at risk of over-training at all.

AARP: After your opening dance one judge said you needed to extend through the undersides of your arms, not just the tops. Did that make sense to you?

Martina: Yes, that totally made sense. I got tight during the performance and felt a little rushed. In tennis, you keep your arms close and take big steps. It’s the opposite in dancing — you extend through the arms and take smaller steps.

AARP: What adjustments have you and Tony made based on your opening performance?

Martina: I’m working on keeping my upper body as still as possible. I want to move, and move my head. But that’s not what you do with [the jive].

Oh, I am so hoping for a strong rebound with these two Monday night! Please please please…

DWTS Season 14 March 22nd Las Vegas Odds After The First Dance

As always, what a difference the Las Vegas Odds can make after that first dance on Dancing With The Stars. Below is how the Las Vegas Odds are going down currently at Vegas Odds On. Note how the odds makers are still putting William Levy in first and Gavin and Martina in last. Compared to last weeks odds, there has been a total shake up in the middle.

William Levy 7/2
Jaleel White 11/4
Donald Driver 4/1
Maria Menounos 13/2
Katherine Jenkins 15/2
Roshon Fegan 8/1
Jack Wagner 15/1
Gladys Knight 15/1
Melissa Gilbert 18/1
Sherri Shepherd 20/1
Gavin DeGraw 35/1
Martina Navratilova 50/1

So, do the odds makers have it right this time? I was shocked to see Donald so high and Sherri so low (not that I have an issue with it? 🙂 )? Let’s get Heidi and Court’s thoughts….

Heidi: Well, of course they’ll leave William up there, cuz going by the screams in the audience he’s a shoe in to win right? Ummm….no. The odds makers have NEVER understood how this show works, have never taken the time to figure it out, and consistently show week after week, season after season, that they are willing to drastically change rankings every week after being proven wrong the week before. 🙂 They really should hire me, Court or Marianya to do this odds crap for them. 🙂 We would be right far more often than they could ever hope for. Ah well, they do provide additional fodder every week for us to poke fun at.

Courtney: Reading through these odds, it’s as if these oddsmakers just trolled the internet, reading various reviews of Monday’s show, and then somehow combined them into some weird, non-cohesive odds that neither make them look like geniuses nor complete idiots.  Of course they’re buying into the William hype, since the judges all seemed to temporarily grow va-jay-jays when they scored him – plus the oddsmakers picked William to win before the season started, and I doubt they’d back down from that opinion so soon, lest they look a bit silly.  They honestly think Donald has a better chance than Jaleel at this point??? Don’t get me wrong, Donald has potential, but there was a good 5-point difference between the two, and Jaleel’s technique is already miles ahead of pretty much everyone except Katherine, while Donald is…flaily. 🙂 The one that really baffles me is Melissa having better odds than Sherri – meek, awkward dancer with debatable fanbase vs. a big personality with daily exposure that can actually dance pretty well? Might wanna rethink that one, guys.  Maria over Katherine? Not if the judges keep handicapping the latter.  Martina & Gavin at the bottom, I agree with – but I don’t think their odds should be THAT low.  Maybe 25-1 for Gavin and 40-1 for Martina. The only one I think they got spot-on was Roshon – the odds seem about right, and he’s at about the right position in the pack.  Now the real test will be next week, when the Latin golden boy has to do a ballroom dance…should be interesting to see if he maintains his lead in the odds, or falls 😉

Howard Stern Grills Martina Navratilova About Her Dancing Role On DWTS (Rant Post)

Being a tennis fan of Martina Navratilova and hoping she will do well on Dancing With The Stars, I’m wishing she had never been a guest on the Howard Stern Show yesterday. He has this way (as you know) of sensationalizing everything, starting rumors, and trying to make a person look bad just as he tried to do last season with David Arquette. Granted, David might have had a hand in some of it as well, but, does Martina?

In the interview, Howard starts off saying Martina should be dancing with a female partner being she is gay. Martina defends herself saying she is a “woman” and she’s playing who she is. Howard insists she’s not doing the show right for homosexuals and should be wearing pants. She said she’s learning how to dance and she’ll wear what she wants even if it’s a dress or heels, etc.

Howard tries to say she is attracted to the other female dancers as well and tries to get her to admit it. She says they are lovely and tries to highlight who they are and their dancing. He also says she could care less about Tony in part of the interview which is hardly the truth. He goes too far as always. *rolls eyes*

Anyway, before rumors gets out of hand for what was said and not said, let’s hear what went down from the horses mouths. You be the judge when you listen. I don’t see Martina in any bad light. Howard was trying to get her to admit to things that aren’t true. I also see nothing wrong with her wanting to dance like she wants. She was beautiful Monday night and she is a “woman” afterall whether she is a homosexual or not. Martina, if you read this. Please don’t do his show again!

What do you think everyone? Curious for how you take this after listening? Do you see Martina in a bad light? Or was Howard in the wrong?

DWTS Season 14, Week 1 – Dancing by the Numbers

Curious as to where your favorite stands after one week of dancing?? You’ve come to the right place. That said – this could all be crap by the time the couples do their next dance.  I fully expect the judges to level the playing field (cuz they’re stupid like that) with the exception of their designated favorite. I have a feeling that will be Jaleel and William, if CAI and Bruno have anything to say about it. The Vagina vote wins every time. At least Jaleel is a kick ass dancer. William? Not so much. He’s alright. But starting out with overscoring so many people? Likely means they will do some leveling next week.

Anyway, let’s look at the couples and their percentages of the total:

The Judges Scores and Percentages

Place Celebrity Score Percentage
1. Jaleel 26 9.63
1. Katherine 26 9.63
3. William 24 8.89
4. Gladys 23 8.52
4. Roshon 23 8.52
4. Sherri 23 8.52
4. Jack 23 8.52
8. Maria 21 7.78
8. Donald 21 7.78
10. Melissa 20 7.41
10. Martina 20 7.41
10. Gavin 20 7.41

To give you some perspective, last season there was a much more realistic 3.5% spread between the top and the bottom. This season? Not so much.

Anyway, there is a lot of danger for a lot of people with the scoring so close. The only people truly safe are Jaleel and Katherine; even as little known (ringer) as she is, I don’t think that EVERY other dancer is going to get more votes than she did. Because that is what would have to happen. Jaleel will easily get the one vote that he needs, but the people  below her would each need the following for Katherine to go home.

  • Gavin, Martina and Melissa would EACH need to get 22,225 more votes than Katherine per million votes cast;
  • Maria and Donald would each need to get 18,520 more votes per million votes cast;
  • Sherri/Jack/Roshon/Gladys would each need 11,120 more votes than Katherine per million votes cast, and;
  • William would need 7,410 more votes per million votes cast than Katherine
  • That’s what it would take for Katherine to go home. Now, I think that Katherine has “shocking elimination” written all over her BUT, if she keeps the point spread like it is, she’ll be safe for a long while.  I doubt very much that Gavin is getting the votes to beat her right now, and I doubt Roshon is yet either.  I don’t really think that Maria and Donald are generating that many more votes than her yet, but that could easily change.  Her dance was pretty and very well executed, but as we’ve said ad nauseum around here – you have to have the whole package.  She strikes me as Audrina did – except Katherine (like Maria) has a much better partner. Plus Katherine has a lot more dance experience than Audrina did (but she had none, if I recall). Read more..
