Dancing With The Stars Live Tour Review From The Wall Street Journal, Fun Video By Sasha Farber, And Other News

The Wall Street Journal reviewed the Dancing With The Stars Live Tour. They saw the show this past Sunday.

Speaking of music, the audience was treated to the musical stylings of some of the pros, including Ballas on guitar with Dylan Chambers and Chmerkovskiy on violin. Carson had her own cute musical moment involving an instrument nearly the size of her entire body.

Ribeiro and Carson said audience participation would be a component of the tour, and Sunday didn’t disappoint. Chmerkovskiy made the life of the preteen girl behind us by dancing with her in the aisle, and Johnson coached some husbands and sons in the art of dance. On stage. With props. (At the other Red Bank show, Chmerkovskiy danced with the father of Season 19 runner-up Sadie Robertson. What will NYC bring?)

With the elimination of Tuesday’s results show, we lose the opportunity to see the pros dance together except in giant group numbers or 15-second bumpers around commercial breaks. The tour gives audience members the chance to see the pros in different pairings, with the most-common ones being Ballas/Carson, Chmerkovskiy/Slater and Motsepe/Johnson. (This would seem to be for height reasons.)

After several seasons with conservative partners such as Robertson and Candace Cameron Bure, Ballas let loose in a funky, steamy love triangle with Carson and Chmerkovskiy set to Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t” just after intermission. And producers, can we PLEASE get Slater a young, decent dancer as a partner for Season 20? She had chemistry aplenty with Chmerkovskiy in a samba, Farber in a jive and Motsepe in a contemporary-like rumba (the latter accompanied by Ballas and Chambers with an acoustic version of the Cure’s “Love Song”).

Some things you can’t appreciate as well on TV include the muscle definition, especially in the ladies’ legs; the circular fans pointed up on stage to make the women’s hair blow around sexily when they’re performing (Ribeiro had an entertaining moment or two in front of one of them); and famous people in the audience — we were across the aisle from former Chmerkovskiy partner Sherri Shepherd.

Chmerkovskiy, who is Ukrainian-born but grew up in Brooklyn and currently lives in New Jersey, said this segment of the tour was like coming home. He told the audience that while people in Los Angeles can’t ever place his accent because they know he’s from another country, they can’t figure out the Jersey piece. “I’m Russian, but we all sound Italian – how you doin’?”

After Sunday’s entertainment, we’re doin’ just fine.

More at the Wall Street Journal .

In other tour news, it appears Janel Parrish will not be doing the tour after all.

And finally, how about a new video below by Sasha Farber? This is so fun…

New Dancing With The Stars Live Tour Interviews With Keo Motsepe And Val Chmerkovskiy

Awww, this is such a great interview with That’s Your Reality and pro Keo Motsepe! I wish we heard more from him. What a big and gentle heart he has and so humble and thankful to be dancing. I love what he said about Emma and what happened after their Rumba on tour…

Also, Cleveland.com interviewed Val Chmerkovskiy. In the take below, Val talks of the differences between dancing live on the show versus the when he dances on tour. Be sure to read the link for the full interview.

“The live show is awesome. It’s very interactive for both us and fans of the show, who can see us live and get more of a sense about who we are and even ask questions. . . . So many times, a fan will come up to me and say, ‘You inspired me to get up and dance and do something with my life.’ ”

As an artist, Chmerkovskiy says the live format is inspiring to him, too.

“When we do the TV show it’s live, but there are times you have to be thinking about the camera, and to be honest, that’s not when I am my best. That’s why this tour is such a blessing. You get to be onstage and have this immediate interaction with the audience. The more energy they give ne, I give them back. You don’t get that reaction with a camera.

“For me, I feel like a superhero onstage. These are the people who made the show No. 1 in the world and gave me a platform, and I can’t wait to give them the best they’ve ever seen from me.”

That includes the shirt off his back.

“On a lighter note,” Chmerkovskiy adds with a laugh, “I take off my shirt during the show. A lot.”

DWTS Live Tour Round-Up: Reviews From The Press, Photos, And Video Clips

How about some goodies from the Dancing With The Stars Live Tour? First,…a couple of reviews!!! The Pittsburgh Post Gazette calls the show is an “entertaining extravaganza”! Here is more from the link…

But “Dancing With the Stars” is in the entertainment business and that is its brand — to entertain. That it did surprisingly well. Some favorites included Mark Ballas’ geometric contemporary with Ms. Carson and a silver cube and a fleet-footed jive from Emma Slater and Sasha Farber.

All of the dancers were on point in this well-balanced program in which picturesque routines alternated with charming chitchat. The audience also delighted in backstage stories. Of particular local interest, Ms. Johnson loved winning with former Steeler Hines Ward. Her worst moment? When he dropped her on her neck.

They talked of how Mr. Ballas (also a singer-composer on display here) is encouraged to push the envelope by producers, while Mr. Goodman complains about it on camera. Valentin Chmerkovskiy (also a violinist) said he is pushed by producers to go shirtless. Much to the delight of Pittsburgh women, he joked, “I’m not a piece of meat.”

Nonetheless, if you were lucky, you could have ended up in a selfie with those two and guitarist Dylan Chambers, one that made the vast confines of the Benedum seem really intimate.

To read the full review, see the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

MassLive.com also has a review posted of the show. They said, “The evening was a mix of spectacular dance, entertaining backstage tales, and some impressive musical performances.” Below is a bit more…

“DWTS Live” was at its best when the pros did what they do best – dance.

Watching dancers like Ballas or Johnson perform without having to hold back because of a novice partner was a treat for fans of the show.

And it’s a crime that the “Jailhouse Rock” jive performed by Farber and Slater at the Mohegan Sun was not seen by millions of television viewers.

Chmerkovskiy was clearly the fan favorite, drawing hoots, whistles and declarations of love from some of the women in attendance when he removed his shirt.

The Ukranian-born dancer gave a touching speech about realizing the American dream and the debt he owes his parents for their financial and emotional support.

“DWTS Live” comes to Massachusetts for two performances on Jan. 16 at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston.

Sasha Farber Chats On The DWTS Live Tour, Dancing, And More (New Interview, Videos)

The Baltimore Sun interviewed Dancing With The Stars Sasha Farber. They ask him how he became a dancer and being on Dancing With The Stars. He also answers a question on the new Dancing With The Stars Live Tour and what people can expect if they go to the show. Read on….

What have you gained or learned from your experiences on the show?

I’ve learned a lot. You learn really quickly because once you get the celebrity [partner], you get to see someone transform right in front of your eyes into a different person, a different character. And as she becomes a better dancer, a better person, it’s just an amazing feeling. … And you get to share different stories with them through dance every week.

What do you like to do when you’re not dancing?

I’m a big movie watcher. I like to watch new and old movies and also just explore wherever we are. That’s my favorite part [of touring]. I never like to just kind of get to a city and just sleep or do absolutely nothing because, to me, that would be a waste of a day. And I like to research a lot, especially in dancing, because dancing evolves every day really so you need to stay on top of that.

What can people expect from the tour show in Baltimore?

We’ve made sure it’s exactly what the fans want. We’re doing some of the best numbers from last season. Alfonso [Ribeiro, who won the most recent season] is hosting. There’s some great, passionate numbers involved and watching what’s happened in the past cities, we’ve had standing ovations and the reviews have been amazing so Baltimore can expect a really, really good show.

More at the Baltimore Sun. And thanks to Sasha for some new videos. One video has the girls singing a new track for the tour in Nashville yesterday with Melissa Rycroft…

Janel Parrish Scheduled To Join DWTS Live Tour, New Val Chmerkovskiy Interview

If you go to TBO.com, you can read a new interview with Val Chmerkovskiy. He talks of Dancing With The Stars, his partners, and how he was disappointed in a 3rd place finish last season. He also talks on the showmance with his partner Janel Parrish and how people had the wrong impression of their relationship. He also talks a little on the Dancing With The Stars Live Tour. Note that Season 19 partner Janel Parrish will join the tour when it gets to California.

Chmerkovskiy says his former partner Parrish is scheduled to join the tour when it gets to California. There were rumors that the two became an item during this 19th season and that Parrish had fallen for the charming Ukrainian-born dancer.

Chmerkovskiy’s previous partners include former “Wonder Years” star Danica McKellar, comic Sherri Shepherd, actress Kelly Monaco, actress Elizabeth Berkley, and Italian actress Elisabetta Canalis.

“And I loved dancing with every one of them,” he says, adding that because Parrish was close to his age and they looked good together people got the wrong impression about what he calls “showmance” rather than romance.

“My commitment and dedication never change,” he says. “I was very proud of her. She was incredible, truly incredible. She was willing to work hard, and she was so beautiful. I literally have no regrets about the experience.”

He says he was disappointed in the third-place finish because he is so competitive. He has yet to be part of a winning team on “Dancing.” He also finished in third place with Kelly Monaco during “Dancing’s” all-star season.

Now focused on the tour, Chmerkovskiy has other career goals. He and his brother, dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, own a chain of dance studios (Dance With Me) with locations in Connecticut, New York and near their New Jersey-area home. He says they want to expand the franchise to the West Coast. Since he was a child, he has played the violin and hopes to perform professionally one day. He also raps under the stage name of VC and has released one album.

He doesn’t know if he will be back for season 20 of “Dancing With the Stars” because ABC has yet to announce the cast.

“Right now, I am enjoying the tour without the pressure of being judged,” he says.

Dancing With The Stars Mark Ballas Weighs In On The Tour, His DWTS Partners, And More

The Orlando Sentinel has a nice piece up with Mark Ballas. He talks about the Dancing With The Stars Live tour. He can’t say whether he’s returning for Dancing With The Stars for the 10th Anniversary, but, he has fun talking about all of his partners. Here’s more on the tour itself….

Ballas praises Ribeiro’s style. “He’s got a loud voice and a huge presence. He brings the show together,” he said.

During the tour, Ballas performs his songs, such as “Get My Name”; plays three numbers on guitar; and dances at least eight times.

“My goal is to entertain, not put my eggs in one basket,” Ballas said, noting that he choreographs and started in musical theater. “At some point I’d like to do a Broadway show. Music is a tremendous focus for me. I don’t want to succumb to the idea you can do only one thing.”

He writes or co-writes his songs: “It’s more personal when it’s coming from the artist’s heart.”

His album “Kicking Clouds” has drawn comparisons to Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake, but Ballas says his guitar style, with flamenco and blues techniques, gives his music a fresh, percussive style. His song “Miss Incredible” aims to celebrate and inspire women.
