DWTS Season 13, Week 9 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, tonight was a night for some to come back to earth, and for our favorite hero to struggle with an injury. I worry a bit for him, but I think his fanbase is solid, passionate and crazy voting.

Really not all that much to say. I felt so bad for JR; it was clear he was in pain. Was happy for Rob and Ricki and felt like they finally scored Hope about right.

Anyway, on with the nunbers:

I'm a nerd and proud of it. Two degrees in geology also means I love BEER. :-) I'm also a Derek lover - proud of that too. So don't scream at those of us on this site and call us a bunch of "biased Derek-lovers" - it's just ME. :-) It may sound like I hate DWTS at times, but really, I'm just a snarky nitpicker from way back. DWTS Season 13, Week 8 – Dancing by the Numbers

Remember when I said the judges were using a good bit of hyperbole last week?? Well, they’re at it again – mainly directed at Hope and JR.  They were throwing out undeserved superlatives left and right.

JR is, without question, the best dancer this season and he has the best story. I do think  he will win and it will be deserved. But I don’t think he should be overscored any more than I think Hope should be.  And both were tonight.  A 60 for JR?? Ummmm….No. A 57 would have been fine and dandy – and reasonable. He had some of the same issues that Ricki did on his Jive, he just made it look slightly prettier – but not 6 points prettier.  And Hope?? Well, after Maks’ past behavior, he’s pretty much dead to me. And that shouldn’t be taken out on Hope. But never in this universe does she get the same score as Ricki Lake UNLESS the judges are desperately trying to make sure that Nancy goes home and NOT Hope.

So, if Rob or Ricki goes home tomorrow night, the judges just better keep their traps shut. It’s on them. I don’t want to see any shock and awe on their faces – surely they aren’t that stupid any more?? Oh wait….they gave Hope a 27.  :::rolls eyes:::  Clearly they ARE that stupid. Yes, it was Hopes best night of the competition.  But she is not either Ricki or Rob’s equal. Not even close. And personally, I think Maks should be fired and Teddy should take over. Rather tired of shitty behavior being rewarded. How very Hollywood.

Anyway, let’s look at the numbers.

DWTS Season 13, Week 7 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, as I’ve said before – nights with two dances are dangerous. It’s much easier for a shocking elimination to happen, mainly because the higher the number of judges points handed out, the smaller the margin between dancers.  It’s simple math, really.  A 3 point spread that was a 2 percentage points spread, becomes a 1 percentage point spread.  Danger, danger, Will Robinson!!

Other than the inherent dangers, it was a reasonably good night.  My admiration for Derek Hough grew by leaps and bounds, fully justified by his behavior.  Some fans wondered why TPTB would let Maks randomly trash Derek….turns out they didn’t. 🙂 You best watch yourself, they will get back at you eventually. Of course, Maks made it SO easy.

JR took a tumble and I have to say I agreed with their scoring, sadly. Really, I think the only problem scores of the night were Rob’s – he seemed a bit underscored – And Team Tango.  A disaster Len?? Hardly. It was rather lackluster and lacking some pizzazz, but I think “disaster” is a good bit of hyperbole.

Let’s look at the numbers.

DWTS Season 13, Week 6 – The Results (SPOILERS!!)

Well, the results are in….and we’ll leave a bit of white space so no one on twitter gets spoiled.

Chaz and Lacey are leaving tonight and I can’t say I’m very happy about that.  But it is what it is.

Ordinarily after a show like last night’s I would wager that Hope gets much nicer treatment by the judges next week because they felt bad by what happened. BUT, after seeing the behind the scenes stuff tonight, I’m not at all sure that will be the case.  Not a whole lot of pity floating around from the judges. We’ll see. Will they try to prove Maks wrong? Or will they hold a grudge??

Me? I was off by one and I think, if I remember correctly, Courtney got it right!!

DWTS Season 13, Week 6 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, another season, another mis-placed Maks blow up. Oy veh.  It’s a shame – he had me until the sky box. Where he lost me. And then he apparently unfollows Derek because Derek speaks his mind for a change?? Hypocrisy, thy name is Maks. Dude, if you want the freedom to speak your mind, you have to give the same freedom to everyone else.  I find it most shocking of all that he doesn’t SEE all this. Any thinking being would say, well, he’s free to air his opinions, good or bad.  And that’s true. But where does it say that he gets that freedom, yet Derek (or Len, or Carrie Ann or Karina or Bruno) doesn’t?  And, if you’re going to air your opinions loudly on TV, you have to take the responses you get, good and bad. We all do. Instead, he un-follows Derek and his fans lambaste Derek on twitter – um, who was the ass on TV again?? Hint: it wasn’t Derek. Or Karina. Or JR. Or Nancy – all of whom expressed opinions similar to Derek’s, or at least displeasure.

Were the judges badly behaved? Bruno was, in his comments to Chaz, whose feelings I think were terribly hurt. It’s a cumulative effect – there’s only so long you can take those comments. I don’t think Len deserved what he got. We’ve all discussed how the judges can suck – but we’ve known this for YEARS.  For the love of god, this isn’t new and the complainers have certainly benefited from them being wacky in the past – and will in the future, most likely. There is a lot to be said for professionalism…and as Maks himself said, he’s been on the show long enough to know how this game works. Or he should.

Unfortunately, Maks will likely come out the winner in all this. Gain followers through controversy, gain sympathy votes, gain another week – maybe even gain a role in Dirty Dancing for being a complete ass, since the director was in the audience. Mission accomplished?? We’ll see. 🙂

As for the rest of the cast? Well, the cynical side of me wonders if Maks does this with half a mind to getting attention for him and Hope because the rest of them seem to be an afterthought, with the exception of Derek and his brouhaha. Have a bad dance and need votes?? Instigate massive, attention getting fight, thus getting your fans all riled up on your behalf.

Seriously  – conspiracy theories generally don’t fly with me. Occam’s Razor – the simplest explanation is likely the correct one (in a nutshell).  He was probably just having a blow after bottling it in for years (um, theoretically?).  🙂  Just a momentary flight of fancy on my part.  I do think that Evaine and her sparkle/glitter crew need to give Maks a twirl and a glitter shower. I think she’s up for the task. 🙂

Apart from the blow out, Hope certainly got the personality of the dance right – and I actually liked her more last night than I have before. But the girl is not a great dancer, no matter what Maks is trying to sell. I don’t think the judges were that far off the mark, personally.

Nancy!! Hurray for Nancy!! Don’t think she deserved a 9, but Len balanced it out. Of course, that damn song is stuck in my head forever now.  And I’m whistling a lot. Hurray for Tristan too – that was some nice, bright, choreography. I think they both had a breakthrough.

Ricki and JR – both fantastic dances. My only concern is the same as it always is – the top of the leaderboard, combined with a massive fight between another couple and the judges, can lead to a lack of votes for other dancers – just through sheer neglect. I don’t think either of them will be in trouble, but it could spell trouble for someone like David or Nancy.

David, Rob and Chaz – I’ll be honest and say that I don’t remember much about their dances. Is the dance the problem or everything that followed? Hard to say.  Oh, but go back and watch over Tom’s shoulder in the third tier of seats – before Chaz dances. Hilarious. Anyway, enough blather.

Let’s look at the numbers.

DWTS 13 Interviews After Week 5 Results Show (New Dances Revealed, But One)

Well, another Results show keeps us in total suspense once again and the intensity was at its most prime last night!! The pressure is indeed building for all of these couples to do their very best. With that said, let’s get the couples reactions after the results show last night with some new interviews from George Pennacchio of On The Red Carpet. He also gets the couples to reveal and talk about their new upcoming dances for Broadway Week a little….

George starts out this interview asking Maks about his Broadway experience in the past. Then he asks Hope about the tension they experienced this week. She gets defensive about her crying. George gives her some much needed advise!!

Chaz and Lacey talk of the “open fly” incident. George loves Chaz’s genuine smile. Lacey is excited for Broadway week. They have an “aggressive” dance to Cher’s favorite musical. (At twitter Chaz said they have the Tango next week.)

George tells Ricki and Derek how Broadway week is going to be “their week” with the talent they have, but, Derek stresses that it will be challenging to create a “Quickstep” for it. They won’t reveal the song, but, both Ricki and Derek love it. Derek has designed their costumes and they are excited. (No, it won’t be to “Hairspray”!)

DWTS 13 Carson Kressley And Anna Trebunskaya After The Elimination Interviews

Like so many of you feel, I’m having a hard time letting go of these two!! Carson has to be one of the most big hearted, fun, entertaining celebrity contestants to ever grace Dancing With The Stars. For that, he will always be a “winner” and he and Anna can take that to the bank!! 🙂 With that said, below are some interviews they did with the media last night and this morning….full of grace, fun, and no hard feelings what so ever!!! “Dancing to the beat of his own drummer” and knowing what “dancing” is truly all about….

You can view their Good Morning America interview this morning >>>>HERE. Check out the Mirror ball they give him!

He had so much love and respect from the other couples too….

Here’s to Carson and Anna! A forever, unforgettable couple on Dancing With The Stars!

ADDING: Thanks to Shep’s heads up, HERE is a KTLA interview as well. Don’t forget the two will be guests on The View tomorrow (Thursday). At twitter, Carson said they will be dancing. 🙂

DWTS Season 13, Week 5 – The Results (SPOILERS!!)

Well, the results are in….and we’ll leave a bit of white space so no one on twitter gets spoiled.

I don’t have much to say tonight. I’m VERY sad to finally be right. Sadder than I thought I would be. That’s right – Carson and Anna have departed the ballroom. :::sniff:::

And they are pimping Hope and David, possibly at Ricki and JR’s expense.

Other than that, good show tonight. Good to see mark, Tristan and Derek on the floor, and not just Val and more Val. Oh, and I have a straight girl crush on Kym. 🙂

DWTS Season 13, Week 5 – Dancing by the Numbers

Well, well, well…another interesting night. Let me take this opportunity to point out that Courtney and I were right on target with the storyboarding we would see this week. 🙂 I’m right so rarely this season that I have to capitalize when I am. It’s only a shame that Hope couldn’t take advantage of a golden opportunity. We pretty much figured that they were going to knock Ricki down a few pegs (and neither Derek nor Ricki seemed to mind this overly much), allowing JR and Hope to spring to the top – only Hope didn’t capitalize on it.  The result was a bloated score on one of the worse dances of the night…and that’s saying something!!  We also tried telling people that they weren’t turning JR into Ralph Macchio – they’re making this show into a horserace if it kills them. I still think it’s his to lose.

I also have to ask – Carrie Ann, in what freakin’ universe do you give the same score to Rob Kardashian as you do JR??  You’re losing what credibility you had, sweetheart.  At least you don’t have far to fall.  And you all give the exact same score to a couple who looked great in hold and only out of time on the Running Rabbit as you gave a couple who didn’t look great either in hold or out – and who was more heavily, substantively criticized.  Come on, gang – you’re being pathetically transparent. You want to make sure that Hope sticks around another couple weeks, try giving Carson and Chaz scores THEY actually deserve, instead of the entertainment value score.  Nancy too, for that matter – bad news for her is that I keep forgetting she’s there.

Anyway…

Let’s look at the numbers.
