Your Dancing Music Wish List For For DWTS Season 18, Let’s See It?

Hey Everyone! What song selections would you like to see the pros or the couples dance to on the new season of Dancing With The Stars? If interested, post all of your ideas and music wish lists in comments! You never know, they might be helpful or inspirational to the Pros or the new Band for the new season?

Ok, here are a few of our music ideas and wishes….

The Monster – Eminem ft. Rihanna
Show me – Kid Ink ft. Chris Brown
I’m A Freak – Enrique Iglesias
Shine My Shoes – Robbie Williams
You Rock My World – Michael Jackson
Not A Bad Thing – Justin Timberlake
Anything by The Gotan Project (for Latin dances)
Don’t Tell Me – Madonna

Let It Go – Idina Menzel (from the movie “Frozen”)

Happy – Pharrell Williams
Animals – Martin Garrix
Drink a Beer – Luke Bryan

“Gypsy” by Lady Gaga (would be a fantastic freestyle or contemporary song)
“Love Me Again” by John Newman (great for a cha-cha)
“Make Me Lose Control” by Eric Carmen (an oldie but a goodie – would be great for a rumba if they ever resurrect 80s week!)
“I Wish” by Cher Lloyd feat. T.I. (one of my guilty pleasures – might be fun as a samba)
“Feel Good” by Robin Thicke (another good cha-cha)
“Sunglasses at Night” by Corey Hart (I’ve wanted to see it used for a paso doble for 3 years now!)

I'm a fashion and music fan....and I have always loved dancing too of any kind. Dancing With The Stars seems to have this way of bringing all of those things together. So, they fired the Orchestra? Here’s what we won’t get to see again!

This is just an appreciation post for the Orchestra, led by Harold the Amazing Musical Wizard! Without him, and the orchestra, DWTS probably wouldn’t have become the powerhouse show that it’s been for several years now. Without them, I think we will lose an integral part of the show, since Harold worked well with the pros to create the best music for each dance. Let’s face it, many songs that they’ve had to deal with were HORRIBLE choices, and Harold Wheeler and the Orchestra and our pros somehow managed to MAKE the songs and the dance styles fit together. Nathan’s post did a great job starting the discussion, and now we know that the orchestra has indeed been cut, all we can do is “deal with it” even if we don’t want to. I would MUCH prefer that they all be rehired, but I’m just one viewer, and what I want is supposed to be what they tell me I am supposed to want for the show, whether it’s what I really want or not. Yes, send emails. But if they get enough, will they simply delete unread? I’d LOVE if we could find a LOT of dances to put here, and hope that sometime, someone from our wonderful orchestra can read and realize how much we really appreciate how much they’ve done for DWTS. We know, and we appreciate, and we will remember. And THANK YOU for all of your hard work and dedication, they will not be forgotten.

I love that Harold was the one who did the musical arrangements for every song that they’ve played over the last 17 seasons. I love that he’s ALWAYS been very respectful of the music, of the original, and many times, of the professional dancer and the dance itself.

It can’t be easy to basically rewrite that many songs every week, so that they everything meshes best… Harold and the orchestra were truly the best!!

I’ve always loved the dances where the professional worked closely with Harold to change details in the songs to better fit the dance… Derek was always great with that, but several others were, too. I almost feel as if I’m in mourning for the loss of the orchestra, and the dancers ability to make better use of a crappy song.

I’d love to add as many dances to this post, so if you think of any, add it in the comments… DO NOT POST LINKS! but instead, PLEASE try to give me the couple and the season, and which dance style. I don’t know if I will be able to find them if you give me the song titles without the dance. They’ll be added when possible, please be patient.

First up, Maria and Derek’s rumba….. Madonna’s Material Girl as a rumba? Without the orchestra’s genius, THIS never would have worked…
Maria and Derek’s Material Girl Rumba

Let’s not forget Season 17’s PLUGGED/UNPLUGGED challenge during semi-finals, where each couple did 2 different dance styles to the same song. That NEVER would have been possible without OUR orchestra. And, we have THESE dances to remember…

Amber and Derek’s Viennese Waltz to “Locked Out of Heaven”
Corbin and Karina’s rumba to “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark”
Leah and Tony’s Argentine Tango to “Bad Romance”
Jack and Cheryl’s Argentine Tango to “Roxanne”
Bill and Emma’s Argentine Tango to “Sexy and I Know It”

Jimmbboe loves Aaron and Karina’s Muppet Quickstep and I do too!

Susan2 loves Mario and Karina’s Tito Puente Mambo and Gilles and Cheryl’s “killer” Argentine Tango!

Sandy’s pick is Hines and Kym’s “Explosive” Paso Doble! Another great pick!

PLEASE keep them coming, I love reminiscing like this!

Rich loved Nicole and Derek’s Foxtrot and while watching that, I found another of MY favorites, Nicole and Dereks Im-PASO-ble 1950’s Paso Doble

I found some CAN’T LEAVE OUTS!

Shawn and Derek’s Knight Rider Bhangra! Hard for both the orchestra and dancers, I’d say!

Helio and Julianne’s Mambo VS Shawn and Derek’s Mambo

Helio and Julianne’s Quickstep VS Shawn and Derek’s Quickstep

Here’s more from Craig:

Nicole and Derek’s Pretty Woman Tango

Nicole and Derek’s SOS Jive

Emmitt and Cheryl’s All-Star Cha Cha to Chain of Fools

Ingo and Kym’s Cha Cha from Len’s Side by Side Challenge

Jacoby and Karina’s Jive from Len’s Side by Side Challenge

Kellie and Derek’s Foxtrot from Len’s Side by Side Challenge

Dancing With The Stars Mark Ballas Talks On His Guitar Collection, New Music, And More

The Huffington Post has a new interview up with Dancing With The Stars Mark Ballas. He talks all about his love for guitars, his music, and the new album he’s working on. Below is a take which includes who he’d like collaborate with and talk of a sneaker line. Be sure to read the link for more on his music career. There are some cool pics of his guitar collection as well.

RH: Sounds sexy! Is there anyone you would have interest in collaborating with musically? Anyone you are currently working with?

BALLAS: I’m currently working with producers and writers whom I have the utmost respect for. I write all my own music but I love collaborating with other talented industry people. I’ve been in with Wizz Dumb and Jozzy (Dope By Accident) out of Miami, Timbaland and his whole camp, the Beamer Boyz, Jim Beanz, Thom Russo, Andre Meritt, and Sha. A list of artists I’d like to collaborate with or do a feature with? John Mayer, Robin Thicke, Ellie Goulding, B.O.B., Florence Welch (Florence And The Machine), Ed Sheeran, Nora Jones, Shakira. Also, Missy Elliot and Justin Timberlake of course…

RH: So many on that list I love as well. Do you see any other collections in your future? Perhaps autographs from all of the celebrities you have worked with on DWTS?

BALLAS: Well, I love sneakers, so I think my next collection will be all kinds of dope and wacky sneakers.

RH: I’d love a sneak preview at what is in store for Mark Ballas next. Anything you care to share?

BALLAS: My album is really my main priority and project. I recently signed with new management and the support from my publisher, BMG is really making everything come together. I’m looking forward to connecting with a label partner and releasing an album that portrays who I am and what my music is all about. I can’t wait to share it with everyone. I’m concentrating all of my energy and passion on this project.

DWTS12 End of Season Award Winners – What Was Your Favorite PureDWTS Feature?

Over 400 of you came out & voted in our End-of-Season Awards – wow! Now it’s time to see just what you guys thought were the bests & worsts of this season.  First up, we have the results of the “Favorite PureDWTS Feature” award:

John: This question is absolutely fascinating for me since I started Pure DWTS just because I figured people would be looking for the DWTS music the way I saw people looking for the SYTYCD music. Turns out, people do look for it almost as much. With all that traffic, I figured I should provide something more than music to keep people sticking around. Thus was born the DWTS Power Rankings. Then, once Heidi started posting all the DWTS rumors (that should have been on this list too I guess, along with the DWTS polls we do), people started creating basically full blogs posts in the comments. That’s how Courtney, Vogue, Marianya, Amanda and a few other people started writing. Enough nostalgia, but it’s fun for me to think back how each of the above Pure DWTS features became a staple on the site.

Personally, I think that Who Wore It Better? is probably my favorite. Hard to argue with pictures of incredibly beautiful people (Luckily more women share outfits than men) side by side. Although, I think my favorite response actually came in the Other category where someone said, “All of them–I have become totally addicted to this site!!”

Courtney: Umm, wow.  You guys really dig the Cheesecake! Still amazes me that some silly “I’ve got stuff to bitch about and just need a place to do it” feature that I jokingly brought up to Heidi has become such a hit! For those of you going through summer withdrawl from lack of cake, we have some great news for you 🙂 Heidi & I have decided to do a “Cheesecake Retrospective”, where we’re going to do awards for shows of seasons past – our first “victim” is going to be season 5, week 5, and we hope to have it done within the next week or so.  If you guys would like to watch those particular episodes & play along with us, you can go to and sign up for Hulu Plus – it’s only $7.99 per month, and it lets you watch seasons 5-11 of DWTS in their entirety in high-quality, amongst hundreds of other shows.  If that’s too steep for you, you can always try to hunt down clips from that week on YouTube – the episodes in question were the ones where Sabrina & Mark did their rumba and Mark & Kym did their famous “I Dream of Jeannie” samba, and where J. Lo did “Let’s Get Loud” on the results show.  Granted, a lot of our best material doesn’t come from the dances themselves, but the banter in between – but it still might give you some context, if you aren’t able to get Hulu Plus.  Hope you guys are as excited for this as I am! 😀 Anywho, for those of you in the “other” category who voted “none!”…I’m gonna assume you mean all our features are equally as awesome, so that none of them are your favorite…otherwise, I might have to call you a “hater” 😉

Heidi: It’s funny, I clearly remember you saying something about it on Twitter and I was like, why the hell not?? We may as well bitch in public and get rocks thrown at us. 🙂 I thrive on rocks, after all. 🙂 Yes, kids, I would guess you have about a week and a half to watch Season 5, Week 5 before we get this little summer act together. I highly recommend Hulu – if you have a TiVo or some other service (like an internet ready TV) you can even watch all those seasons on your HD TV. The quality is amazing. It’s kinda funny how many of our feature either came out of Twitter conversations, or post comments. The Dancing by the Numbers came about because some Derek fan or Maks fan…someone somewhere was in terror their favorite was going home because they only had a 1 point or so lead on the next person. I was like, “yo, the bottom person is a good __ points behind Derek/Maks/whoever, they aren’t going anywhere.” The response was obvious. “How do YOU know.” LOL. I never KNOW for sure…I just make educated guesses based on the rules of the scoring for the show.

Vogue:  Wow, this is just so cool! Everytime a new Poll goes up, I’m fascinated by the results and how quicky they come. When this Poll went up, there were over 300 votes within the first two days of it. 😯 I’ve always been a “Poll” person, so this is exciting. Congradulations to the Cheesecake winning. It’s giving me many hours of laughter as well with this year’s highlights and honorable mentions going to the cracks on Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer. Mike may have went out early, but, he prevailed as being one of the most funny contestants to ever be on the show and I hope producers will give him many more leading skifs in the future. Good skifs mean good cheesecake and possibly with chocolate topping. 🙂

As for the other features, like John and several of you who mentioned it in the other catagory and comments, I love them all so much too. It was hard for me to vote. In the end, I picked Heidi’s “Dancing By The Numbers” posts because I enjoy her psychic abilities going down every week as she gathers up the numbers and facts. FASCINATING!!

Anyway, good job All! Thanks for your support and all of your votes. You make PureDWTS what it is every day!! I’m so thankful to be a part of it all!! Here is to the new upcoming “Cheesecake Retrospective: Season 5, Week 5″! Be there or be square! 😀
